The All Progressives Congress has denied allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party’s spokesperson, Chief Olisa Metuh, that it was planning to destabilise the PDP. APC’s publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement in Abuja on Friday, that it was impossible for his party to be making such moves especially when the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, had spoken against the recent wave of defection of politicians to the APC. Mohammed described the claim by the PDP as ludicrous, adding that its publicity secretary, Metuh, needed training to be able to carry out its new role. “Metuh will need the training to effectively carry out his new, tough task. It is now obvious that he needs to understand that for him to succeed in his new role, he must be credible, empirical, more sophisticated in language use and very passionate, in addition to being able to operate on a lean or zero budget,”the statement said. Following the loss of the PDP in the March 28 presidential election, top members of the party in many parts of the country have been defecting to the APC, whose presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, won the poll. Metuh had then raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the APC to destabilise the PDP, using disgruntled members of the ruling party. But APC said it had no time to lure the PDP members as alleged by Metuh but was busy with plans to clear the mess created by the ruling party in the last 16 years. Mohammed stated, “The APC has no time to waste on luring members of the PDP. We have our hands full as we seek to clear the mess that the PDP has made of Nigeria and the state of hopelessness to which its 16-year rule has plunged the citizens. Because Nigerians wanted change, they voted for our party. How then can the party of change allow itself to become populated by the same folks whom Nigerians have rejected?” He added, “It is ludicrous, to say the least, for anyone to suggest that the APC is seeking to destabilise the PDP, when the erstwhile ruling party has done such a great job of crumbling under its own weight, having gorged on the commonwealth.” http://www.punchng.com/news/apc-denies-plot-to-destabilise-pdp/ |

pdp should not be so clueless not to know this. you cannot handover power before a swearing in takes place. |
MDAs given till April 20 to submit handover briefs By Jaiyeola Andrews in Abuja President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to formally handover to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari on May 28 will create a power vacuum for a few hours between the period he hands over and the morning of May 29 when his successor will be formally sworn-in as the president. Making the president’s intention to deviate from the norm, the Minister of Information, Mrs. Patricia Akwashiki, who briefed State House correspondents on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, said Jonathan would formally handover to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari on May 28 at a dinner She added that he had directed all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of the federal government to submit their handover briefs to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on or before April 20. However, speaking on the May 28 handover date proposed by the president, human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), said the new date was a deviation from the law as a vacuum would be created should he handover before Buhari’s swearing in. “As far as the law is concerned, President Jonathan is in charge of the country until May 29. He cannot cut short his presidency in the name of handing over the day before at a dinner, as there is no provision for a vacuum. “He is the president till the morning of May 29 when Buhari takes the oath of office. There is no provision for a vacuum of eight or nine hours, and I am sure the president will be properly advised,” he said. During the briefing, Akwashiki, said: “You know we are already in transition, so there is very little to report. What we discussed with the president in council, he emphasised on the need for all MDAs to submit their handover notes to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation by the 20th of this month, that is next Monday. “So we are going to be very busy this weekend putting our handover notes together. “The president also emphasised that he would require another briefing from all MDAs to indicate inherited projects, how far they have been executed; and initiated projects by his administration and the level of completion, whether completed, ongoing or abandoned. “We discussed other issues but we were particularly paying attention to the transition and how to make it effective. As you are all aware, we have a transition committee already set up by the president, headed by the vice-president. Other than that we have an inaugural committee that is headed by the SGF. “So everything we are doing is aimed at achieving a smooth transition, and getting all our notes together.” According to the minister, by May 28, the president will formally hand over at a dinner, while May 29 would be reserved for the incoming government. “By May 28, we expect to have wrapped up this administration and we will be welcoming the incoming one. Also, you know May 29 is Democracy Day so we will have activities lined up all through that week showcasing all what we have achieved and all other things we normally do on our Democracy Day, except that this year is special with the inauguration of our new president who is coming up on May 29,” she explained. Asked if council meetings would continue or put on hold, Akwashiki provided further clarification on the handover format to be used by the MDAS, stating: “It is for the MDAs to submit their notes to the SGF who will handle the total package of the handover to the incoming administration. “There is a format to follow and so it becomes easier for all the MDAs to follow the template. If they do that it will be easier for the president to compile everything. “The format is to ensure you submit everything before they pass it to the incoming government. That is not to say that governance has stopped, of course we are in government until the day the president-elect takes the oath of office. “There will be no vacuum, as there are things happening. And if you have any pending contract approval it has to be submitted before the 13th of May. “Everything that requires the president's approval should be submitted before May 13. “We also do not want the incoming administration to accuse us of rushing projects, which is normal, so we are guided by that. And if you have approvals, we are going to have Federal Executive Council meetings every week, the last one that will be the valedictory one on May 20. “So governance is not stopping, we are still working and in the event you have approvals it must be concluded before May 13.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/jonathan-s-may-28-handover-to-create-power-vacuum-before-swearing-in/206946/ |

The Peoples Democratic (PDP), on Wednesday in Abuja alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was trying to destabilise it by planting moles within its fold. Mr Olisa Metuh, the party`s National Publicity Secretary, stated this while speaking with journalists at the end of the party`s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting. The meeting, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports, was the first after it lost the presidential election to the APC. “We have noted that while some members had left our party, others have been asked to remain to cause disaffection and disharmony to destroy the spirit of unity in the party,’’ Metuh said. He said the NWC had noted some divisive statements by certain elements within the party, who were being enticed by extraneous factors and other parties to cause disharmony in its ranks. Metuh cautioned against such comments and urged party members with genuine grievances to direct such through the appropriate channels within the party in line with the provisions of its Constitution. He reassured PDP members that the NWC had put machinery in place to re-engineer and re-focus the party, in keeping with the collective determination to consolidate its support base in states of the federation. Metuh said this was with a view to regaining power at the center in 2019, “since it is obvious that the APC lacks what it takes to effectively lead the nation.’’ He said that following the party’s perceived poor performance at the just-concluded elections; it would meet with its governors and senators-elect on April 21. Metuh said the party`s leadership would also meet with its members elected into the House of Representatives on April 22. He said the party`s state and zonal chairmen had been directed to come to the meeting with “list of irregularities in the conduct of the elections in their areas.” Metuh said this was to enable the party to have a holistic view of what transpired during the elections and for it to come up with its final decision on its conduct. He said the NWC reviewed certain developments arising from the 2015 general elections and resolved to resist any attempt to subvert the people`s will. The spokesman added that the NWC also resolved to resist any attempts to tamper with the democratic process with the aim of denying its candidates their well-deserved victory at the polls. He called on INEC and security forces to ensure that the elections in states where it was declared inconclusive were free, fair and credible. The PDP spokesman said that every effort must be made to resist the intimidation and blackmail by the opposition aimed at manipulating the process in its favour. He urged the party members, particularly those in states where elections had been rescheduled or declared inconclusive, not to despair, but remain focused. Metuh said the NWC would continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them until the party`s deserved victory was achieved. He said the PDP had already received reports from Nasarawa State on results from a ward collation center in Karu Local Government Area. Metuh alleged that in Karu, the PDP senatorial candidate was leading with about 8,000 but the votes were cancelled by INEC. He said that INEC cancelled the result on the ground that the Collation Officer was unable to reconcile the figures from the ward. Metuh alleged that instead of ordering the collation officer to properly reconcile and re-present the figures, INEC reversed the 6,000 votes polled by the PDP candidate by hurriedly declaring the APC candidate winner with about 2,000 votes. This, according to him was in clear violation of the Electoral Act which did not provide for cancellation of results based on un-reconciled figures at the collation level. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/04/pdp-accuses-apc-of-planning-to-destabilise-it/ |

THE Peoples Democratic Party has questioned the conduct of some INEC officials and security agencies in the last Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Monday said that the elections were characterised by widespread irregularities supported by certain INEC and security officials to the advantage of the APC and wondered if such officials were intimidated by APC’s blackmail and propaganda to deliver its candidates in the polls. He said: “Evidences abound of widespread irregularities across the country with INEC rejecting results from the strongholds of PDP candidates for no just cause while accepting the figures those of the APC. In Lagos, Adamawa, Plateau, Benue, Kwara, Ogun, Oyo, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Niger, Yobe, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi and Imo states, there are proofs of electoral manipulations ranging from underage voting, ballot stuffing and intimidation of PDP supporters to alteration of some aspects of the process in favour of APC,” Metuh alleged. The PDP spokesman further alleged: “In Abia State, but for the outcry of the people and timely intervention of the INEC headquarters which rejected the illegal cancellation of results from three local governments and strongholds of the PDP by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even after they have been announced by the returning officers, the PDP would have been robbed of its well deserved victory in those areas. “As a responsible party committed to national unity and democracy, our members have remained peaceful and orderly; our candidates have been conceding defeat in the interest of peace while we elect to channel our protest to the appropriate quarters. The same have not been seen of the APC, which has unleashed its members to cause mayhem and harass our supporters in states where PDP candidates clearly won, such as Akwa-Ibom, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers and Gombe states. “While we urge INEC to take disciplinary actions against its erring officials, we strongly call to question the sincerity of some of the observers especially regarding their failure to raise issues on the irregularities that characterised the voting pattern in most of the states where APC candidates have been declared winner. “Finally, we invite Nigerians and the international community to note the emerging dangerous trend in our country. There are rising concerns that the APC may have commenced a systematic destruction of democratic institutions and culture, which the PDP successfully nurtured in the last 16 years. Indeed, we wonder if there is a deliberate attempt to also erode the discipline and professionalism of our security forces and entrench the culture of impunity in our society,” the PDP stated. “The party however, urged the citizens not to despair but to brace and resist all anti-democratic and dictatorial tendencies noting that it is repositioning to stand by the people by providing a credible opposition and returning to power in four years time.” The PDP, therefore, directed all its elected and appointed officials to be ready to make sacrifices, ensure judicious use of resources and gear up for a rescue mission in the overall interest of the Nigerian people. Meanwhile, Lagos State chapter of APC has thanked Lagosians “for speaking with their votes once again and consequently renewing confidence and trust in the party and the leaders they have known in the past sixteen years.” In a statement signed by Joe Igbokwe, the state publicity secretary, the party said: “Words are not enough to express its dept of gratitude and satisfaction for the boldness and courage displayed by Lagos voters in voting for continuity in the centre of excellence. “In the face of harassment, intimidation and brigandage from the powers-that-be, APC lovers showed infectious and contagious love to the party and its leaders they have known for years now. “APC lovers in Lagos did not succumb to blatant lies, hate campaigns, politics of the stomach, ethnic and tribal politics and politics of naira, dollars and pounds sterling. They were not swayed because they understood what is at stake. They were smart, courageous and determined to use the power of votes to sustain the intelligent leadership and governance in Lagos…There was no meeting point between light and darkness. We relied heavily on common sense revolution. “We appreciate Lagosians for understanding the urgent need at this critical point in the nation’s history to connect Lagos effectively to Abuja. Lagosians saw this great opportunity and grabbed it with both hands and the rest is now history. “We have no doubt in our minds that the synergy between Abuja and Lagos will add great values to the Project Nigeria and consequently make our country to remain credit positive in many years to come. “Lagos APC appreciates Lagosians for their unflinching support, we celebrate their courage and steadfastness, we honour their patriotic disposition to continuity, we value so much their sense of judgment and the power of their strategic political decision at a time like this.” http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/04/pdp-berates-inec-others-over-polls/ |

As a political observer, am appalled by the party called APGA. APGA has a first class candidate for Governorship of Abia, Dr Alex Otti who has almost been robbed of his obvious victory.what has been the reaction of APGA to this. *the so called party chairman , Umeh is more concerned about the senate seat that he lost to pdp, he has also spent time to cook up conspiracy theories about a so called northern gang up that defeated jonathan. *the abia state apga chairman even dumped otti to endorse ikpeazu [smh] *the other apga governor of anambra state totally ignored otti's plight and is more interested in his state only. what kind of party is apga? |
