Frank Lampard is expected to be confirmed as Chelsea manager on Wednesday after Derby County granted the Premier League club permission to speak to him.


Chelsea's efforts to bring club legend Lampard, 41, back to Stamford Bridge will accelerate in the next 24 hours, with sources claiming he will sign a three-year contract in the coming days.

Roman Abramovich will pay a £4million compensation package to secure Lampard's emotional return.

A statement released by the Championship club on Tuesday read: 'Derby County Football Club can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea Football Club to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.

'With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions.

'The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so.'

Jody Morris, another former Chelsea midfielder, and Chris Jones will follow Lampard from Derby.

Lampard enjoyed a successful first season in management at Derby, leading them to the final of the Championship play-offs before losing to Aston Villa at Wembley.

And that looks likely to be enough for Chelsea owner Abramovich to shell out £4m to release Lampard from his Derby contract.
The midfielder played 648 times for Chelsea, scoring a record 211 goals and helping the club win three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League.

But if he does take over at Stamford Bridge, he will inherit a transfer embargo after Chelsea were given a two-window ban by FIFA, a decision the club are appealing against at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Derby owner Mel Morris may already be in London for talks with Chelsea executives with him also due to speak on talkSPORT in their studios at 11am on Wednesday morning.

The total compensation fee will be slightly higher than £4m as Chelsea will have to pay to free Jody Morris and Chris Jones too, with Lampard wanting them both on board.

Chelsea could sweeten deal by agreeing to send young talent on loan to Derby in future, as they did with Mason Mount last season.

Derby's haste to get a decision from Chelsea is understandable given their squad are due to report for pre-season training on July 1.


The Rams are set to jet off to Sarasota in Florida for a 10-day training camp later that week.

During their time in the States, Derby will play two pre-season friendlies - one against Sarasota Metropolis of the United Soccer League on July 10 and fellow Championship club Bristol City on July 13.

Chelsea's pre-season will see them visit Japan for two fixtures - against Kawasaki Frontale in Yokohama on July 19 and Barcelona in Saitama on July 23.

They then return to the UK for a visit to Reading on July 28 before heading off to Austria to play RB Salzburg on July 31.

A woman has been arrested for posing as an official from the Lagos State Governor’s Office at Italian Embassy in a bid to secure visas for some members of the public.

It was gathered that the middle-aged woman (name withheld) was arrested at the weekend following an intelligence on the usage of the Governor’s office to seek visas for some people.

A statement issued by Gboyega Akosile, Deputy Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babatunde Sanwo-Olu said the suspect, via an e-mail sent to the Embassy of Italy in Lagos allegedly posed as an official of Lagos State government and sought the country’s visas for some unsuspecting Nigerians.

The government said the embassy, however, wrote to the Governor’s Office to authenticate the claims, which were later found to be false.

It said the letter from the Italian embassy led to further investigation and her subsequent arrest and interrogation.

The government said, although, she denied the allegation claiming that her email was hacked, the Lagos State Governor’s office had sent the matter to the appropriate security agencies for appropriate action.

In the light of this, the Governor’s office had alerted members of the public to be wary of some people who might fraudulently use the office to commit criminal act.

In the meantime, the office has warned members of the public not to deal with any persons who paraded themselves as government representatives in consular matters.

Ekiti state government has appointed the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the Chancellor of the state-owned Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti.

The Head, Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs in the institution, Mr Bode Olofinmuagun, on Monday confirmed the development in Ado Ekiti, but did not give details.

The traditional ruler replaces the Alara of Aramoko Ekiti, Oba Adegoke Olu Adeyemi who held the office for four years during the last administration of former Gov. Ayo Fayose.

It was learnt that consequent upon Sanusi’s appointment, management of the institution had paid homage to the Emir in his palace in Kano.

It was also gathered that the Emir had since accepted the offer, through a letter addressed to the government by the Matawallen Kano, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed.

The letter by the Emir, thanked Gov Kayode Fayemi and the state government for the honour, promising to use his influence and wealth of experience to advance the course of the university.


It will be recalled that EKSU is the fourth university in the country to have appointed the Emir as Chancellor since he ascended the throne.

Frank Lampard is set to seal a sensational return to Chelsea as manager within the next two days.

The former Blues midfielder is set to return to Stamford Bridge alongside his current Derby No 2 and former Chelsea player Jody Morris, with their roles set to be announced 'in the next 48 hours', according to talkSPORT.

Lampard, 41, has been the overwhelming favourite to become Chelsea boss since Maurizio Sarri left his post to take over at Serie A champions Juventus.

He has only been Derby manager for a season and narrowly missed out on securing promotion to the Premier League in his first campaign as a manager.

Lampard led Derby to the Championship play-off final at Wembley, only for his side to be defeated by Aston Villa.

But it was his work with Derby's youngsters, including two loan signings from Chelsea in Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori, that stood out.

With Chelsea set to be under a transfer ban this summer, Lampard will be expected to clear a pathway to the first team from the club's youth fold and create a platform for future success at Stamford Bridge.

He will also need to introduce a more attacking style of play in west London. Sarri, despite winning the Europa League and steering Chelsea to a third-place finish in the Premier League, failed to unite the club's fanbase with his cautious, possession-based tactics.
As a player at Chelsea, Lampard made 648 appearances and is the club's record goalscorer with 211 strikes. He won three Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, the Champions League and Europa League, starring in an era of unprecedented success for the club.

At Derby, Lampard won 24 games from 57 matches and also led them to the quarter-final stage of the Carabao Cup.
They knocked out Manchester United, who were then managed by Lampard's former boss Jose Mourinho, before being beaten by Chelsea.

Huawei is gradually taking over.

This week, writers at PC Magazine tried to ship a Huawei P30 from a UK office to a US one, and were surprised to find it sent back a few days later. Since the sender had identified the phone down to the IMEI number, it was clear from the beginning that box contained a Huawei phone, but the package was actually shipped all the way from London to Indianapolis — from the UK’s Parcelforce to its US partner FedEx — until a legal issue emerged and the shipment was returned to the UK. According to the attached notice, the problem was a “US government issue with Huawei and China government.”

Crucially, there wasn’t a specific law referenced; the company simply decided it would rather not take on the trouble of figuring out if this was kosher or not. Always thorough in the face of confusion, the PC Magazine folks checked with UPS, too, who said it would be happy to accept such a shipment. They checked with Huawei, too, who said it was a complete misinterpretation of the US orders.

On Saturday morning, FedEx released a statement acknowledging that it had made a mistake:

The package in question was mistakenly returned to the shipper, and we apologize for this operational error. As a global company that moves 15 million shipments each day, we are committed to compliance with all rules and regulations and minimizing impact to our customers as we adjust our operations to comply with a dynamic U.S. regulatory environment.
FedEx noted that it can “accept and transport all Huawei products except for any shipments to listed Huawei entities on the US Entity list.” But the company also directed blame elsewhere, saying “the return to sender label attached to the package in question was not generated by FedEx.”

It’s easy to see how FedEx could get confused, however. The past few months have seen a flurry of overlapping restrictions on Huawei, often for conflicting reasons. The company has been quietly blacklisted by US carriers for some time, but is now explicitly banned from US networks and from partnering with US tech companies. None of that explicitly bars a UK national shipping a duly purchased phone to the US. But as often happens when corporations enforce law, FedEx seems to be using company policy to stay as far away from the issue as possible.

The frustrating thing about this is that there isn’t any clear purpose to it. None of the executive orders against Huawei have been aimed at making it harder to ship phones into the US. With no US carrier supporting the company, it’s already hard to get a Huawei phone onto a US network, so an executive order closing that loophole wouldn’t be worth the trouble. And for most of the actions so far, the justification has either been avoiding network vulnerabilities (i.e. Huawei cell towers in US networks) or avoiding technology transfer (i.e. US technology in Huawei phones). But neither of those quite applies here.

As a result, the logic of blocking the shipment of an individual phone is hard to follow. If you did want to start selling Huawei phones in the US, shipping individual units would be a pretty bad way to do it. A trickle of non-retail phones is hardly a threat to America’s network integrity, and cutting them off has real negative consequences. If you’re an Android or web developer trying to see your programs run on one of Europe’s most popular phones, you’re simply out of luck.
