20. We have deployed additional resources to all affected areas to maintain law and order. The attacks by suspected herdsmen and other bandits will not be tolerated.

21. I appeal to all Nigerian to refrain from attacks. The security agencies have standing instructions to arrest and prosecute any and all persons found with illegal arms.

What a big shame, see how you lack basic primary school comprehension of written English.

How does the above statement explicitly or remotely infer anything other than an outright declaration of war AGAINST attacks by the herdsmen and other bandits; pls try to explain to me how that translates into support for the herdsmen or their attacks?
It is obvious that your hatred has blinded you from objective reasoning and therefore basic comprehension - this is how many of you easily fail JAMB and still blame it on the village witch doctor.

I am sure Obasanjo would not call the UK (and parts of Canada) uncultured; but even there; the govt. in 1976 gave way to demands from Indian Sihks to be allowed to wear their turbans instead of crash helmets.

Today, the Sihk turban and other ethnic cultural headgear/attire are allowed and incorporated into official uniforms in so many of the so called advanced countries - this is called tolerance; a trait which many from our political and ethnic divide, including Obasanjo seem to lack.

Jonathan is not my hero. He is a useless drunkard who never prepared for the number one position. Buhari is also a failure who knows nothing about governance. He is more talented in cattle rearing. Back to my question, what is your take on Buhari’s advice to the victims of his brothers' genocide?
I am not sure I know who you meant by Buhari's brothers and any genocide in this country (assuming you understand the true meaning of the word genocide - not its misapplication); however, if you want me comment about what the president may have said, please provide me with a quotation and a credible source of such information.

Meanwhile, you should know that any reprisal by anybody enacted outside the law, especially leading harm or death is condemn-able and its perpetrators aught to be brought to book.

By Daud Olatunji

ABEOKUTA—SUSPECTED Fulani herdsmen have again attacked some communities in Ketu Local Council Development Area in Ogun State three days after a stakeholders’ meeting was held with the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu. Vanguard gathered that the Police boss held a security meeting with the leaders of farmers and herdsmen in the troubled area two weeks ago over the incessant killings of Ketu people allegedly by herdsmen.

Narrating the incident, in a statement, the Coordinator-General and Director of Public Affairs of Ketu Advancement Forum, Kunle Abiose and Williams Olayode respectively said the herders invaded “our farms, hewing down palm trees for their herds to graze on.” The statement reads: “Surprisingly when the local people went to inspect the damage done to their farms, the herders again opened fire on them with the locals sustaining gunshot wounds of varying degrees. “This incident was well documented at the Police Area Command Office, Ilaro.

“Presently, the atmosphere is charged as areas like Ikotun, Ologiri, Akeru, Ilukan, Ijege and Ajibode have continued to come under the influx of herds. The state Governor can no longer continue to turn blind eyes and deaf ears to the tensed situation. “Our farmers have been sent away from their farms, over 30 primary schools have been shut down, health facilities closed and economic activities paralysed.”

“The climax of it started on 10th December 2017 when innocent aged women were attacked and macheted in-between Moro and Eegelu villages for their refusal to submit themselves to be raped by heartless herdsmen”, the statement added. While urging the state government to come to their aid, they said “we want Mr. Governor to rise up and perform the primary objective of a responsible government first; which is giving us security.

We hope that the State Government will see our statement as a sincere wake-up call, and act in line with her constitutional duties to guarantee our security and well-being.”

One sided story; would like to hear the herdsmen's version of events; I have stopped accepting these stories, line hook and sinker, especially when you can easily pick holes in them - e.g. out of the lush green terrain of the S.W. how would any sensible person believe cows would prefer to feed on chopped down palm trees against other more easily digestible vegetation?

My question did not require answer...it was my intention to call out the double standards as being practiced in Nigeria. Herdsmen carry arms to defend themselves, and that's okay, abi? Why is it that the igbo traders or Ijaw fishermen can't openly carry AK47 to protect themselves and their businesses from robbers? Cattle rustling is not different from armed robbery.

My good friend and brother, please, I beg you in the name of God, eschew relìgious and tribal bigotry. We can all live together harmoniously. I had hausa-fulani school father and school son in those days. I consider them my brothers any day, anywhere.

I hate to read that fulanis never forget or forgive......blah blah blah.
What a silly and ridiculous statement of contradiction - did you actually wrote that?

"my question did not require an answer"- if so, then why ask in the first place, why waste ppl's time when you are not ready to engage me in an honest intelligent discussion?

The Fulani did not use to bear arms like AK47 because they and their cattle were previously relatively safe from attacks and robbery, until recent times - its called self preservation - for the same reason the locals are forming militias and also bearing arms themselves; all of which are a manifestation of the breakdown of law and order where various generations of government have failed to adequately provide security and justice to its citizens; resulting in loss of confidence and ppl taking the law into their hands.

Your only grouse is that the Fulani appear to have an upper hand in this unlawful struggle - ppl like you would have been dancing to a different tune had it been the other way round.

Your analogy with Igbo traders etc are not comparable because their operational environments are not the same; besides giving an explanation to what's going on doesn't equate to condoning it - the bigotry and tribalism you see resides only in your eyes and mind; not mine.

Sorry if you do no like my answer - you are entitled to your opinion just I am entitled to mine.

The Fulani never use to carry AK47 but a simple stick to herd their cattle; until they started being robbed and killed by locals.

Their weapons are for protection not aggression; however, as very fearsome warriors their success at extracting revenge, not minding that they are often the initial victims, is what is now giving many of you heart ache, I am sure if it were the other way around; many of you politicising the crisis would not even bat an eyelid.

No, they are not hated by all other tribes but only by some in certain parts of the country where being encouraged through media propaganda.

Politics › Re: Afenifere, Ohanaeze, ACF Chief Fault Fg’s Planned Talks With Miyetti Allah by ItsMeAboki(m): 1:59am On Feb 05, 2018
actiondrilling:
A cross-section of Nigerians have criticised the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo panel for its decision to raise a committee to hold talks with the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in its probe of the herdsmen killings.

The committee, which was set up by the National Economic Council to “find lasting solutions to the increasing cases of killings by herdsmen across the country,” is headed by the Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, had said this on Thursday at the end of a meeting of the Osinbajo committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Federal Government’s plan to meet with Miyetti Allah, however, has drawn the ire of different socio-political groups in the country.

Among those who faulted the move by the Federal Government are the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere; the umbrella body for the Igbo, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo; and Middle Belt groups.

Others are a chieftain of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, and a Niger Delta activist, Annkio Briggs.

The ACF does not, however, see anything wrong with the talks the Umahi committee is to hold with the cattle breeders.

Afenifere said that though the government’s plan to meet the cattle breeders association in order to end their killings was good, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari could not be trusted.

The National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, warned that the Federal Government was leading the nation down the path of anarchy and lawlessness by planning to negotiate with the herdsmen, who it said had stained the nation with the blood of innocent citizens.

Odumakin slammed the Osinbajo-led panel for proposing to meet with the Miyetti Allah, saying it was unfortunate that “a professor of law would be meeting to negotiate with criminals.”

He added, “If the panel is meeting herdsmen, who are staining the country with blood, it means the Federal Government is complicit in the murder of Nigerians. They have not brought one person to book, but they are negotiating with the murderers; this is an invitation to anarchy.”

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo also questioned the objective of the dialogue with Miyetti Allah.

The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Uche Achi-Okpaga, told one of our correspondents that there was nothing to negotiate.

He stated, “What is the panel going to negotiate with the herdsmen about? Will they ask them (herdsmen) what the government should do to placate them before they will stop killing defenceless Nigerians? The setting up of the panel is simply unnecessary. It cannot achieve any result. It is the height of deceit. The panel has failed before it started.”

The President of the Middle Belt Youth Council, Emma Zopmal, said, “The government has never made an attempt to compensate the victims, yet it goes further to empower the Fulani herdsmen for killing innocent people. This is an irresponsible act on the part of the Nigerian government.”

Similarly, the President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Dalyop Chuwang, said that the government should desist from handling security issues with kid gloves.

Chuwang added, “The sole responsibility of the government is to provide security to all citizens, regardless of tribe, religion and geopolitical region.

“The killer herdsmen should be declared as terrorists just like the Indigenous People of Biafra, which has not even launched an attack anywhere but has been tagged a terrorist group by the government.”

In the same vein, a Niger Delta activist, Ms. Annkio Briggs, expressed disapproval with the negotiation plans by the Federal Government.

Also, a member of the National Executive Council of Arewa Consultative Forum, Mohammed Abdulrahman, said, “If Buhari wants to do something, he should order the military to tackle the matter. He should ask them (herdsmen) not to come into Nigeria because they are not Nigerians.”

The Secretary General of the ACF, Anthony Sani, however, cautioned Nigerians against criminalising the Fulani.

He said, “Miyetti Allah is an umbrella body of herdsmen, but that does not suggest that the majority of its members are criminals who perpetuate the crimes of killing innocent people, including children who are not party to the feud.”

The ACF secretary noted that the plan of the Federal Government to negotiate with the warring parties, especially the herdsmen, did not amount to endorsing the killings.

Not surprising comments from the usual ignorant ethnic jingoists too blind with hate to reason objectively.

They are wrongly assuming that Miyetti Allah is like their own tribal associations with full control over the Fulani and therefore sponsoring the killings.

They are also ignorant of the fact that unlike their own groups, the FG encouraged the Fulani to form their own association leading to the formation of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association with a view to serve as at platform with which the FG could communicate and manage problems affecting herders through an established structure - for exactly one the reasons the FG is now proposing to discuss with them.

This much was revealed in a lengthy interview with General John Shagaya (rtd) a former Minister of Internal Affairs (a middle belter, who also claimed to have personally signed the certificate of registration of the said association)

His words,
" The next thing government said is that there should be a leadership within the Fulanis, hence the encouragement of the registration of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association. I signed the certificate.

The intention of government then was to say; if we were faced with any minor problem, there should be a leadership that government can hold.
But today, they themselves have broken into various factions and the migrant Fulanis have refused to have anything to do with local Fulani and that is part of the problem.
We have to study these things well before we start condemning ourselves, they have to be taken into confidence in the discussions and that was the comment I made to the Governor of Benue State, that there must be a constructive engagement with all the stakeholders, you must know the reason
".

- IGP Ibrahim Idris allegedly blamed Governor Samuel Ortom for escalating herdsmen crisis in Benue state

- The IGP reportedly told the Senate that the governor's statement during the burial of victims was inciting

- He added that the public display of coffins of people who died in the attack also renewed tension in the state

https://www.naija.ng/1149997-igp-idris-blames-governor-ortom-benue-crisis.htmlhtml
Of course he did; he politicised the crisis, inciting hatred and division among the ppl; you can easily relate the lynching of those innocent Fulani at the motor park to Ortom's public mass burial of the 73 victims and his subsequent divisive utterances.

His militia armed with AK47 on N15k monthly salary, already pumped with hatred were unleashed to enforce the untimely grazing law.
They were unfortunately also ill-prepared, overzealous and along with some locals hunted down the herdsmen often exploiting/extorting them - leading to the reprisals.

Ortom was playing to the gallery, using the media to incite emotions rather calm and cool them as you would expect of a good leader who was interested in the peace and unity of his ppl; he was also playing in accordance to the script of a bigger picture crafted by some ppl only interested in discrediting the president and bringing down his government at any cost - even if it means undermining our national security and unity.

These ppl tried and failed with IPOB; they are now using the herdsmen/farmer crisis and the media which they already own and control to divide the north in particular and Nigerians in general, along ethnic and religious lines, in order to achieve their selfish agenda.

In the same vein; here are pictures of several Fulani women and children being quietly buried by their own ppl; they were murdered in cold blood in June 2017 in Adamawa; they had had no governor, Grand Khadi/Bishop to preside over their burial, no fanfare of media publicity; they were buried anonymously with no identity, silently with no tears, no follow up stories or images of wailing family members - they lay now in their graves forgotten because they are Fulani and not Christians.

The biggest hypocrite is the one who believes that the Fulanis are the only ones doing the killing against peaceful locals who are so innocent that they cannot even kill a fly.

Left alone, a hypocrite like you would believe these butchered Fulani children in Adamawa committed suicide.

Your statements are very provocative but I will attempt to control boiling temper! Why are you underplaying the terrible things currently happening in the north and middle belt. The graphic photos and videos of real horror taking place today are to you mere political propaganda?! I shudder at the abyss of callousness and insensitivity that bias and prejudice can demote souls of men!
Killings are real and the loss of human life most regrettable; however, politicisation of the crisis makes it even worse.

Anyone with common sense would know the obvious; that the problem is simply an economic one, where essentially farmers and herdsmen are clashing over the basic resource of water and especially land - for farming vs land for grazing - turning it into an ethnic and religious conflict in order to instil hatred and division among Nigerians for political gains is most unfortunate.

Taraba where armed militia would kill Fulani women and children in genocidal proportion, and suspects arrested but where the state government would subsequently order the police to release them - on grounds of so called public interest.

'The Attorney General, in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES, said he asked the police to release the suspects because their detention would inhibit the investigation into the crisis by the Commission of Inquiry set up by the state.'
