That was funny. No! I changed mine.
TravelRe: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by Itstyme(m): 6:28pm On Apr 04, 2016
I changed my surname some months ago but my international passport carries my previous surname. Is it right to use the new or the old surname in the visa application form? If the old name, can I state the new under the section " other names used" because I would like to have the new name on record.

Which of the contact in the States is best advised to input as the contact person/organization in the form online? Applicant is attending a conference in San Antonio which is the main purpose of travel but will also be visiting the spouse who lives in a different state after the conference. Also, there's no space to fill the secondary purpose of visit. Which is best advised?

@Itstyme..

Thank you for response. I really appreciate it. I have checked out the website of URtec 2016, as proffered by you but the "Register Now" Tab, says "Registration will be opening in March". Please check back soon for more details. I wanted to find out how much registration cost, because it wasn't stated on there.

Do you know what I can do now or another alternative? Thanks again for your time.
Registration will open later this week or next. Check the website frequently for an update. You can contact them too via email.

Hello and goodmorning to everyone in the house..

I have been an avid but silent follower and must admit that I have learnt alot during my time here.

I work for an Oil & Gas, (Energy Management) company here in Lagos and I wish to apply for a B1 Visa, after my previous F1 denial in May 2015. I was to go and study for my masters program in a University in Michigan but it didn't work out. So I applied to study for my MBA in Unilag and have since commenced studies.

I have searched for conferences on Power & Renewable Energy via a couple of conference websites, but the conference registration fees I see on there, is discouraging. As I cannot afford to spend $700 - $1000 to register for a conference and at the end of the day, the visa will not be approved.

There are conferences in Business Management (related with my MBA program) that are cheaper (and I can risk) but I as I have read on here, one must attend conferences that inline with one's career. So I don't know what to do now.

Can anyone advise of any link to get cheaper, more affordable conferences? Or generally advise on what I could do, based on my profile..

Thanks.
Google URtec 2016. It's coming up in August. You pay less than $100 if you are a SPE registered member.

Yes you are a student nah.
Do you work un the country you're studying?

The fact that you have a business running in Nigeria doesn't make you a working student oh.

Your business is how you.have funded your studies
Okay! No I dont work here at all. Full time students. Thanks for the breakdown.
TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by Itstyme(m): 1:31pm On Mar 14, 2016

Let me speak from experience from applying in a country outside your normal residence.

First off where are you studying?
Does the Uk embassy there allow a non-national to apply for Uk visa from that country.

If they do what's the processing time for that visa. I say this because some countries say yes but its their perogative how long they keep your passport it could be upto 90days and even more.

If they do allow the visa application its your TIES to the country you are currently resident that's important. So since you say you are studying the you need documentation from your university stating you are a current student, class attendance school fees paid etc. The letter should be addressed to the Uk embassy you are applying to.

Show your finances both in the country your studying and where you come from. Its just to show how you intend to fund your trip.
The whole tax etc part may not be necessary because your case is different since you are not applying from Nigeria.

Note of warning please apply only during your vacation time or at least at a time that shows you have something in your school to cone back to e.g project, exams etc.
This is why documents from your school are important showing term time exam time project/thesis schedule.
Yes they do accept non national visa application as long as you are living legally. Processing time is three weeks max as stated by the embassy. All the stated documentation from the University can be achieved. So what do you advise my status should be in the online form? Student (working), Self employed or student(not working)?

If you're applying as the "owner" of a company, you must submit your company's document which should include, certificate of incorporation, memorandum and article of association, company's tax clearance certificate, company's bank statement of account including your personal bank statement showing your earnings from your company.

For business owners, you cannot omit your company's bank statement of account, that would lead to instant refusal. Another important document is the memorandum and article of association where the visa officer can easily verify your stake and shares in the company.
Oh yea? Thanks once again. Will review.
TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by Itstyme(m): 11:23am On Mar 14, 2016
FrontPageLawyer:
If you must apply, you should consider applying in Nigeria because that is where you have your strong ties which are the various aspects of your life that bind you to your country of residence; your family and social relationships, employment, and possessions. Some examples of ‘ties’ can be family, a job or business, a house, a bank account, and investments.

Let me quickly inform you that it's not enough to have a registered business in Nigeria. Is your company Tax compliance as prescribed by law? visa officers have the understanding that just anybody can register a business in Nigeria and get the title "CEO". The officers are trained and can easily evaluate your company through its tax clearance certificate to determine its financial strength, capacity and most importantly to know if the business is subsisting. In the officer’s point of view, the tax clearance certificate is a very important document issued by the Government only to legitimate business entities after filing returns at every fiscal year. Through this document, the officer can reach a quick decision whether or not your business is legitimate and is substantial enough to compel you to leave the UK at the end of your temporary visit.

You also mentioned that there are large sum deposits in your business account. From what source do they come from? Do you have the contract documents i:e contract letter, invoives, bill of lading, award letter to show proof of funds from a verifiable source? For your company's bank statement to be considered, the in flows must commensurate with the company's earnings and business activities.

Lastly, since your company was newly formed in October 2015 and yet to commence tax payment, I'll advise you grow your business for two years to qualify you for a visitor visa, except you have a very important business dealing with a reputable company in the UK that will benefit both companies and Governments.

You can give it a try but these are the odds I found against you:

No ties abroad
Newly formed company
Yet to commence tax payment
Lump sum deposit without proof of funds
No company structure
Thank you for the detailed response it's well understood. And yes there are documents to show the lump sum of deposits. Also, I don't intend using the company's account but my own personal account.

Guys! Please I own a business/company by the side in Nigeria which got registered officially last year Oct though have been in the said business since 2012.

Secondly, I am presently out of Nigeria pursuing my second degree and I intend applying for a uk visit visa from here towards this forthcoming summer. My questions are;

1, Under the section of employment status, am I to choose student (working) or self employed?

2, Also, what should the date at which the stated employment started be? Is it the official date on the certificate from CAC or I could choose the date in 2012? NB: The business wasn't officially registered with CAC until October 2015

3, Is it possible for me to submit my bank account statement from my home country i.e. Nigeria here abroad in support to my forthcoming standard visitor's visa application?

4, If yes to (3), I am not based on a monthly salary, I run my finances solely. How do I show or proof a monthly income. The accounts runs on a day to day activities and not stipulated to an exact amount at a point in time. There are large sum of deposits at times.

Please note, I am a resident here abroad and a registered student and major of my finances is in my bank account in Nigeria. Although I also have a bank account here abroad but it's only used for my maintenance purpose here hence I would like to submit an additional bank statement of that of my account from my home country i.e. Nigeria which contains a good and substantial financial record.

Be that as it may, we cannot advice u todeliberately misinform the vo because misrepresentation is not encouraged here
Thanks! Will it be save then for me to have my wife's address or the organisation holding the conference address as my major address/contact in the States because obviously I will be visiting my wife after the conference. No misrepresentation intended.

I am going for a conference in the US and while filling the DS 160 online, questions were asked about spouse. One is the address of the spouse. In my case, my wife lives in the US as a LPR. Is it advisable for me to state she lives in the States or not as we know this could be a reason for denial because the VO might assume I may not return after the conference all because I have my wife who lives in the United States.

Yes some schools participated in the extension as well. Yes CY Migration department process has been like this but compared to some countries like Bulgaria, Germany etc..Cyprus migration department is kinda fast cos I have experience in these ones as well. Anyway, relax month end is here....no need rush cos nothing special.
Thanks for your time. I appreciate.

Yes, they have issued for two of my students going American college. They were late for last entry anyway!. Also there has been some delays from the migration department recently. When did they submit your stuff and did you get in touch with the univ? Actually they extended the admission time cos is normal they do this if less students have been admitted so that brushed out the delays and some other stuffs.
I get in touch with the uni on a regular and they said by month end but I am just wondering why it should take long for an organization( Cyprus Migration) like this. They submitted since August but generally we have been on this since June. If your students were given already despite the fact they submitted at the late hour, oh well then. The date of admission extended is October 15th. Are you aware if this apply to other schools in South Cyprus?

Is there anyone here going to University of Nicosia? It seems South Cyprus visa processing takes forever. @wip7 Please are you aware if the Migration has started issuing out visa for this fall admission? Thanks

Hi.

Please, mrwip or those here, in ur honest opinion, which of theses schools is better in terms of msc oil and gas engineering, university of Nicosia or Frederick University, Nicosia?

Also, i have all required documents ready for the application process, except my BSc certificate of which my school says it would be ready by August ending. My school gave me an attestation letter to that effect. Can i get admission with the documents I presently have?
University of Nicosia is better in my own opinion. It's ranked higher than Frederick. I also feel the school is in the best position to let you know if an attested letter could be accepted in place of ur Bsc certificate so it's better you write the school and explain your situation.

No, I was not given any option like that . I was just told to present my documents for attestation at the embassy before 31st of this month.
I am already on my way sha. I hope I will be attended to .

Modified

So I was at the consulate today but was nøt attended to.
Seems I still have a long way to go .
Was told to get the admission letter first and then take my documents to the ministries of foreign affairs and education before coming to the consulate for attestation.
Pls, how do I get a health certificate.
Thanks.

Thanks
If I may ask, where you not given an option by the school rep in Lagos to help you out with the documents attestation and all necessary things to be done? I wouldn't know for sure if the letter will be needed but it's still advisable to go along with it to be on the safe side.

If you are ready, then send me the complete documents..End of August may seems to far since South Cyprus process has dateline!
