Foreign AffairsWhat’s So Special About The United States? by ItuExchange(op): 12:43pm On Aug 29, 2019
What makes the United States the greatest country in the world and not countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom or any of the EU countries?

Here is the answer offered by Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) in “The Newsroom”.

There is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we’re the greatest country in the world. We’re 7th in literacy, 27th in math, 22nd in science, 49th in life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, 3rd in median household income, number four in labor force and number four in exports. We lead the world in only three categories. Number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real and defense spending, where we spend more than the next 26 countries combined, twenty-five of whom are allies.

I’m sure that any fair-minded person will accept that whilst being very slick this answer is somewhat duplicitous. Perhaps a more meaningful question would elicit a better response.

Who was the cruelest king in human history?

Empire of Tamerlane, and his direct descendants, circa 1400

Emir Tamerlane , alias Timur Lenk of Samarkand 1379–1406 , Shia ruler of an Empire who caused the death of 14 million people, 5 % of Earth’s population at the time. He was not a diehard Shia but still a diehard mass-murderer. Among his victims the near entire Church of the East and any Muslim or “Pagan” he disliked…

TravelIs It Better To Live In Europe Than In The US? by ItuExchange(op): 5:31pm On Aug 09, 2019
Why is it better to live in the US rather than some European country?

For my wife and me, there are only 2 direct benefits we obtain by living in the US compared to our previous home in Europe:

We can jump into the car at a moment’s notice to rush to a loved one’s side, something we have had to do many times since our reinstallation in the US; [ETA in case it's not clear, this was our sole reason for leaving Europe and moving anew to the US. Second ETA because some people are still finding it difficult to parse: my wife and I were both born in the US where our families still live; while we lived in Europe, many of our loved ones either could not or were not willing to travel to see us and the frequent Transatlantic flights were taking their physical toll on us.]
We can do our grocery and pharmacy shopping any day of the week and late into the evening.
No, I’m not being snarky, those are really the only 2 benefits we perceive. Here are all the areas where we feel that we have sacrificed:

My skills and experience were valued more highly in Europe than they are in the US, so I earn less in absolute terms (though I am still relatively well-paid).3

Thanks to extensive public services such as subsidized mass transit and universal healthcare, we had considerably higher disposable income in Europe than we do in the US. (Yes, you read that correctly, despite the prevailing narrative about high-tax “socialist” [sic] Europe.)

Beyond the pure economic terms, our healthcare was extremely simple in Europe: we needed to see the doctor, we went to the doctor, unlike the US where we have to fight with the insurance process before seeing the doctor and then fight again afterwards to get the doctor’s bill paid.
Food in the US consists of two categories: what is affordable and unhealthy, or what is healthy but boring and greatly overpriced.

We miss being able to walk to useful destinations like doctors, merchants, the train station, etc. In the US we have to walk a full mile (without sidewalks of course) just to reach the outlet of our subdivision, and all that’s there is a small strip mall and some gas stations, with no safe way to even cross the street. The train station (at least we have one!) is 8 miles from home.

As a result of having to drive more often and much longer distances, and despite the fact that each individual fill-up is less than half the cost as in Europe, we actually spend more per month on gasoline in the US. We dearly miss our 5-passenger “mini-minivan”, a model that doesn’t exist in the US, that got 40 mpg in town and 50+ on the highway while being very comfortable and spacious.

We miss the social/cultural life — despite living in a small town of 15,000, there was an extremely active network of clubs, associations, and other organizations, all actively promoted by local government, across an extremely wide range of subjects and interests. We have had to work exceptionally hard in the US to find even a few similar activities, some of which we had to initiate ourselves, which was another ordeal, finding a location willing to host them — fortunately, the library in the next town is more open-minded about this sort of event than our local library.

CelebritiesMost Brutal Life Lessons by ItuExchange(op): 6:31am On Jul 20, 2019
What is the biggest life lesson you have ever learned?

If you want to know what a man is really made of, see how he behaves when he is broke.

Spending your entire life regretting is like denying there are any life lessons to be learned.
To become wealthy, you must first find something you can do without regretting your mistakes.
Happiness is the new wealth.

So many people are spending their entire lifetime chasing riches when there’s only one thing that matters — their health.

There really is nothing to life. Just a bunch of regrets that most people can’t deal with.

The fact is that most people seem to be moving forward. The truth is that most people are really driving along a highway while looking at the rear-view mirror.

All the talent in the world won't get you anywhere without hard work, determination and purpose.

Time is like a handful of sand — the tighter you grasp it, the faster it runs through your fingers.
The future belongs to those who have imagination — not those who have knowledge.
Before you came to earth, arrangements were made for your accommodation, food, education and comfort. What nobody ever told you is that you were just being set up for the battle of your life.

What are the dark sides of being financially well off that people overlook?

I’ve met a few mega-rich people in my time. Not one of them was happy. The best example was a guy I knew in Chicago. Worth about half a billion bucks, he had the penthouse suite in the apartment block in Chicago which he owned and a huge house on the water’s edge in Miami. Each location had a Porsche, a Mercedes and a super muscle car in its garage. Winters were spent in Miami, summers in Chicago. At the Miami house, the boat ramp had a 40 foot fast craft and a few water bikes.

He was built on my lines, short, stocky, a few years younger than I but going bald. When I went out to lunch with him one day, he expressed his deep worries and decisions to be made:

He was always upset at having missed a couple of deals that would have made him another $80M. I asked him what he would do with that money that he couldn’t do now and he was confused by the question;

He was worrying about whether he should get hair transplants;

He was worried that the Playboy models and centrefolds who came to stay at his house and share his bed were really attracted to him or his money; I was there when a couple of these women were there and I saw no signs that they particularly liked him, so he may have had a point;

He was equally worried that the sports superstars who were his friends really liked him or were they laughing behind their backs at his short stature;

Technology MarketWhen Google Will Be No More…. by ItuExchange(op): 3:25am On Jun 10, 2019
Will Google ever go out of business?

What if I told you that there was a company bigger than Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft combined.

Well there was a company bigger than Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft combined.

It was called the Dutch East India Trading Company, and in today’s dollar’s it was worth $7.9 trillion.

That’s like if you combined the total GDP of modern-day Japan ($4.8T) and Germany ($3.4T).

It’s truly an absurd amount of money.

Yet, like so many companies before and after them, the Dutch East Indian Trading Company eventually collapsed.

What’s my point?

Google is a big company, but it isn’t even the biggest right now and certainly not the biggest in history.

Regardless of how powerful they are right now, Google will eventually die off.

InvestmentThe Key Elements To Succeed In The Financial Markets by ItuExchange(op): 3:03pm On Jun 02, 2019
It was expected that the main message which I tried to pass to you in the last educational post would not be so popular. I tried to talk about things which are not catchy and their effect will be shown only in time. Work hard and reach your goals. Work hard and become a profitable trader. Work hard in order to get access to new opportunities. But at the same time, I got an additional confirmation of why 90% of people fail in trading.

Why «gurus» and «legends» are so popular and why the community was spoiled by pushing forward simple solutions which can make millionaires from everyone. On the other hand, not too many millionaires here, so it seems the quick and easy route, as expected, does not work.

We have to understand that the majority of people in any trading community is made out of people who don’t have an interest to become successful and change their life to the better. They want to become rich as soon as possible and, for them, sweet dreams have higher priority than hard work with real results. For those, who could get the message correctly, we will move further and in this post.

CrimeThe Worst Form Of Capital Punishment by ItuExchange(op): 4:48pm On May 25, 2019
What was the most brutal form of capital punishment in the ancient world?

Romans, due to other nations (i.e. Carthage) from the Mediterranean, at some point began to use elephants for military purposes. Sometimes, in order to execute the convict, they were laid on the ground, and the animal was ordered to stand on the head / body of the victim.

Writer Valerius Maximus s (1st century CE) mentions that Lucius Emilius Paulus Macedonian after defeating in 168 BCE of the Macedonian king, Perseus, ordered the elephants to crush the bodies of the three deserters. Another solution was putting a heavy stone on the victim's chest, causing strangling and death.

Finally, it is worth mentioning a different form of execution. The convict was dressed in a special tunic called tunica molesta, which was covered with a flammable substance, i.e. oil. Then the convict was set on fire in the arena, to the delight of the viewers.

CelebritiesWhy I Don’t Argue Online by ItuExchange(op): 12:26pm On May 15, 2019
N HATE

At least once a day, I have to remind myself, Don’t argue on the internet.

I’ll see a tweet. From a complete stranger. And maybe my feelings are hurt. Or they said something untrue.

So I hit the reply button.

Every day.

Every day, I’m about to reply. And something stops me.

I don’t know what. But I’m grateful. Because a lot people don’t get stopped.

I think I stop for two reasons:

Arguing is not going to add to my life. If I reply, I’m giving away my energy. When I could be using it for something more creative. And enjoyable.

I think about how ridiculous it would be to argue. This sounds hard. But it’s not. Because I just imagine

Jobs/VacanciesThese Are The Careers That Will Make You Rich by ItuExchange(op): 1:25pm On May 13, 2019
What are all the career paths that made people ultra-wealthy?

There are several. Here they are in order of how common they are in the top 1% of income earners:

Corporate executives : CEOs, VPs, and directors at large companies make a lot of money. Even owners of successful small businesses rake in the cash.

Medical professionals: Specialized physicians and dentists, especially those who are either self-employed or work in surgical specialties, earn a lot of money. However, this definitely comes at the cost of spending your 20s in school, not earning any money, and accumulating debt.

Finance professionals: The classic fancy finance jobs like banking, private equity, hedge funds, asset management, private wealth management, venture capital, financial advisory, and sales & trading all pay very well (multiple six figures, with potential to reach seven, and possibly eight figures)

Lawyers: Lawyers, especially those in corporate law and successful self-employed lawyers, earn a ton of money.

Engineers: This is one I would not count on, but very successful engineers can make a lot of money. However, the median is tilted toward higher five figures, which certainly won’t make you wealthy.

Skilled sales professionals: Salespeople who sell complex enterprise software, medical equipment, financial services, real estate, and consulting, have unlimited earning potential, but the norm is six figures. Experienced enterprise software salespeople earn $300–500k+. Medical device salespeople earn closer to $150–200k, but very successful ones earn high six figures

($700k+). Financial services salespeople have enormous income potential, especially those who hold assets under management, and can earn seven figures with a lot of hustle.

Blue collar workers: This might come as a surprise, but the blue collar professions have enormous potential. The demand for plumbers, electricians, etc. is skyrocketing, and the supply is low. Even employed blue collar workers can earn six figures, and self-employed plumbing/etc. business owners can earn a ton.

Foreign AffairsHow Abraham Lincoln's Lineage Ended by ItuExchange(op): 4:01am On May 05, 2019
Where are Abraham Lincoln's offspring today?

“Despite Americans’ supposed resistance to the trappings of European royalty, we have always yearned for political dynasties, hoping that the qualities admired in one leader will be replicated in the leader’s progeny,” famed presidential historian Michael R. Beschloss said in The New Yorker magazine in 1994 when he wrote the definitive recounting of Abe’s tragedy-plagued bloodline, “Last of the Lincolns,” which is a primary source for this story. It was in that article that Beschloss revealed the million-dollar payoff.

“In no case could this hope have been stronger than in that of the greatest president in American history,” Beschloss wrote. But, he added, “history played a practical joke on the Lincolns,” generating a line of succession that wasn’t much of a dynasty at all, to say the least.

The key player in the Tim Beckwith soap opera is Tim’s dad — if he is.

Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith was the grandson of Robert Todd Lincoln, the only one of Abe’s four children to reach adulthood. Educated at Exeter and Harvard, Robert Todd Lincoln was a lawyer, a banker, and head of the Pullman Palace Car Company, the famed maker of train cars. He would be Secretary of War — forerunner of Defense Secretary — to presidents James Garfield and Chester Arthur and minister to Great Britain under Benjamin Harrison.

In 1875, Robert Todd went to court to have his mother, Abe’s widow, Mary Todd, institutionalized. She was freed after just four months, but by 1882 she was dead at just 64 of a stroke, She left Robert, her only heir, and her perceived tormentor, 64 trunks of goods as well as an estate of more than $84,000 — about $2 million in today’s dollars.

Sokeipiriye Briggs – a honest and exemplary Nigerian

Sokeipiriye Briggs is an online vendor, who also buys and sells cyrptos on websites like CoinDirect.com.

Many people pretend to be what they’re not…. But you don’t really know anyone who’s honest and God-fearing until you completely find yourself at their mercy.

I wanted to purchase something that was worth N36,000 but I mistakenly sent N360,000 to Sokeipiriye Briggs. I became desperate, and contacted both my bank and Coindirect.

To cut the long story short, Sokeipiriye Briggs refunded the money. He actually wrote his bank to return the excess money while retaining his legitimate N36,000.

No matter how bad the country is. No matter how mad certain people are – getting themselves involved in all sorts of foolish things because of economic problems – there are still certain honest Nigerians.

Given his name, Brigs is a south south person. May the blessings of the Almighty God continue to rest on him. May he continue to experience breakthroughs in all his undertakings.

Sokeipiriye Briggs, we’re proud of you! Yes, Nigeria will be a better place if most Nigerians are like you.
