Dharmocherish: The Nigerian Navy has announced that its Marines, working alongside the Nigerian Army, have neutralised 34 terrorists in two separate offensive operations in the Lake Chad area of Borno State.
The operations were carried out under Operation Hadin Kai, the military campaign against insurgency in the North-East, in collaboration with the Army's 403 Amphibious Brigade.
The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
According to him, the first operation took place on October 28, when Navy Marines launched an offensive against terrorist elements in the Lake Chad area. Initial reports indicated that eight terrorists had been killed, but a subsequent Battle Damage Assessment increased the reported figure to 28.
Folorunsho said a second operation was conducted on October 30 against an identified Boko Haram terrorist enclave in Dumba.
He explained that the operation followed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions through which the military identified and monitored the suspected terrorists before carrying out a precision strike.
The preliminary assessment indicated that approximately six additional terrorists were killed, while several others reportedly sustained injuries.
The Navy spokesperson, however, noted that the casualty figures from the second operation remained subject to further verification as military assessments continued.
Folorunsho said the newly established Nigerian Navy Marines had strengthened the military's operational capacity under Operation Hadin Kai by supporting offensive missions, targeting terrorist hideouts and disrupting insurgent activities around Lake Chad.
He added that their deployment had helped restrict the movement of terrorist groups and weaken their operational capabilities in the region.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting joint military operations through intelligence-led engagements and sustained offensive action aimed at improving security and protecting communities in the North-East.

Orabi: The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF), a coalition of prominent youth groups in Northern Nigeria, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for undertaking the Umrah pilgrimage to pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity and development.
The coalition also condemned the killing of Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahaya Massusuka, describing the perpetrators as enemies of national unity and peaceful coexistence.
National Chairman of the coalition, Sama Musa, disclosed this in a statement, stressing the importance of prayer, religious tolerance and collective efforts towards nation-building.
Musa described Nigeria as a complex nation characterised by ethnic, cultural and religious diversity, noting that faith and prayers remain important pillars for sustaining national unity.
He said the President’s decision to undertake the pilgrimage and seek divine intervention for Nigeria demonstrated the importance of spiritual commitment to the country’s peace and stability.
Musa said: "As a people of faith, prayer remains one of the fundamental pillars holding Nigeria together despite our cultural and religious differences. The peace of our nation is paramount to national development and nation-building.
“We commend His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for taking out time to perform the Umrah pilgrimage and seek divine guidance for our country," the statement read.
The coalition further extended its heartfelt gratitude to both Islamic and Christian clerics across the nation who continuously dedicate themselves to praying for Nigeria’s unity, peaceful coexistence, and prosperity.
On the killing of Massusuka, the group described the incident as tragic, insisting that those responsible were bent on undermining Nigeria's fragile peace.
Musa added, “We condemned the tragic killing of respected Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahaya Massusuka, describing the perpetrators as clear enemies of Nigeria who are intent on destabilizing the country's fragile peace.
"The late Yahaya Massusuka was a firm believer in national unity, whose core teachings centered on religious tolerance, peace, and mutual respect - virtues that are critical ingredients if Nigeria is to achieve its full potential."
The coalition urged President Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police, and relevant security agencies to launch an immediate, thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrators of this heinous act are swiftly identified, arrested, and brought to justice to face the full weight of the law.
The group concluded by reiterating its commitment to supporting initiatives and leadership that foster national cohesion, security, and peaceful coexistence across all regions of the country.
