FG Begins 50,000 naira Cash Relief for Vulnerable Nigerians: Who Qualifies and How to Get It?

The Federal Government has announced a 50,000 naira cash relief programme for vulnerable Nigerians to cushion the effects of rising food prices and the cost of living.

The programme, known as the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), was announced on October 30, 2026, by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro.

According to the Federal Government's announcement, eligible beneficiaries are expected to receive 50,000 naira in financial support.

The programme targets poor and vulnerable households selected through verified national identity records and the National Social Register. Having a NIN or bank account does not automatically qualify you.

The approved payment providers include OPay, Moniepoint, ALAT by Wema Bank, MoMo PSB and NairaGram.

The beneficiaries will receive an SMS if selected. There is no public registration form, and nobody is authorised to collect money to add people to the beneficiary list.

Is the 50,000 naira paid monthly or once?

There is an important detail Nigerians should know. While the Minister's announcement describes the support as monthly, the programme's FAQ describes it as a one off payment. The government needs to clarify this difference.

With millions of Nigerians facing economic hardship, questions remain about the number of beneficiaries, the programme's funding and whether the intervention will provide meaningful relief.

This country can build a 4 thousand megawatts power station in half a decade! Based either on Gas or Coal, or even hydro. The money for the phantom Coastal highway to nowhere, can do so. But your party-the obnoxious APC, has mangled priorities. How would they invest in such colossal projects that may need to be sited near the sources of raw materials, when they are neck deep in their village apartheid cravings??

They would rather build a power station at Kaduna and Papalinto, and then lay pipelines from Oguta to those far away lands to power the stations, only to turn around and ask for.my understandings when some hoodlums created by government inefficiency, start messing up the pipelines.

There's something that me and my childhood friend discussed yesterday and since then I have find it hard to process it. He's an estate developer and he's been getting it clear gradually, though not where we want him to be but he's no longer a rookie.

When he started he didn't have a car so he was always complaining that he's not rated among his colleagues and they really don't trust him with deal so they still see him as an hungry hustler, gradually he joined everything together and bought one small Corolla in 2021.

In 2023 he made the same complain again that he needs to upgrade that he needs to move to the next stage and next level of his career that many of his clients mistake him for a Uber/bolt driver so he needs to do more, to cut the long story short he bought a muscle Camry.

Yesterday when we were discussing he said he has 12 million naira and he has a house he wanted to buy for 14 million and renovate for 6 million meaning hee looking for 8 million to take from bank to get it done. I was curious and I asked him like how much he was looking at as regards profit he said minimum of 12 million. He explained once he finishes the house with 20 million he will sell it minimum of 32 million. That's not where I am going.

To my greatest surprise, he said he's looking to get another car I asked him which car again and he said he wants to get venza or Lexus on installment that the dealer have agreed to sell it for 11 million with an interest of 5 million that he will pay for 1 year. I did the maths and that 16 million for a year and 1.35m per month. I was highly surprised and he told me it's no big deal that with that big car in the estate development he will make the money in 4 months that people will trust him more and rate him more.

For people in real estate, is that truly how things work amidst you?
