Foreign AffairsPresident Trump's Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star Smashed To Pieces by Itzpetersv(op): 5:04pm On Jul 25, 2018
President Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was destroyed by a man with a pickax early Wednesday, according to Los Angeles police Officer Ray Brown.

Hollywood division officers responded to a call at 3:33 a.m. (6:33 a.m. ET) to the tourist area. Los Angeles police said a man is in custody and is being questioned. Police said a man turned himself in Wednesday morning at the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Patricia Cox, a witness, told CNN affiliate KCAL/KCBS that she saw a man "going to town" on the ground "like it was his business just to be tearing up the ground," she said. "I thought it was work going on over here."
Video from KCAL/KCBS shows tourists taking photos of the defaced star in front of the Hollywood & Highland center, a major tourist spot in Hollywood.

CNN has reached out to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for comment.

Trump's star has repeatedly been the target of vandalism and protests since the reality TV star's turn to politics. In April 2016, a Superman impersonator on Hollywood Boulevard said he had seen visitors make obscene gestures next to the star, deface it with paint and allow a dog to relieve itself on the landmark.

"People often stomp with anger on the star, others kick their heels over the star, and some spit. The last time, someone put a sticker over the star," Francisco Javier, another street performer who was dressed like Superman, said at the time.
A street artist constructed a tiny wall around Trump's star in July 2016, and that October Los Angeles police arrested a man who they said vandalized the star with a sledgehammer and a pickax.

PoliticsYPP Presidential Aspirant Attacks 15 Senators, 37 Reps For Decamping From APC by Itzpetersv(op): 12:53pm On Jul 25, 2018
Kingsley Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and Young Progressive Party’s Presidential aspirant, has slammed the lawmakers who defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

We had reported that no fewer than 15 senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Tuesday, defected to the PDP. The defectors cited crisis and factions as the reasons for their defection, saying they cannot continue to pursue their political careers under the ruling party.

Similarly, a total of 37 members of the House of Representatives announced their official defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, While 33 moved to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 4 moved to another party.

Reacting to the defection, Moghalu, a Presidential aspirant of Young Progressives Party, YPP, noted that both parties are filled by the same politicians who have no vision for Nigeria.

In a statement, Moghalu said, “The political crisis engulfing the ruling All Progressive’s Congress (APC), demonstrated by the reported attempt to prevent the smooth functioning of the National Assembly and the defections of the members of National Assembly to the People’s Democratic Party tell us one thing: that the APC is a kettle and the PDP is a pot. Both are one and the same.

“Our recycled political nomads criss-cross between both parties at their pleasure and convenience, loyal only to their vested interest to continue “chopping” while our country remains the poverty capital of the world.

“This is why I am running for President. We have no alternative but to break with the past, dump these visionless politicians and move into a better future with leaders truly committed to service to the people.”

Politics2019: No Election Will Hold In Biafraland – Zionists by Itzpetersv(op): 10:45pm On Jul 20, 2018
The Biafra Zionists Federation, BZF, on Friday vowed that no election would be conducted in the defunct Biafra region during the 2019 general elections.

This came from the self-acclaimed President of the BZF, Barr. Benjamin Onwuka.

He spoke to journalists in Enugu a day after he was released from prison, where he also boasted that he would take over Enugu government house on August 20 to announce Biafra Independence as President of Biafra.

Onwuka was arrested on May 30 alongside 32 members of his group in front of Enugu government house where they had gone to declare Biafra Independence.

They were discharged and acquitted by a Magistrate Court in Enugu.

He said nothing would stop him from “seizing Enugu government house on that day as President of Biafra as Enugu remains the capital of Biafra land.”

He stated that the struggle for the realization of Biafra has received a fresh momentum from the support of the United States of America (USA) and Isreali government, stressing that on August 20, they would “enter government house, Enugu with carrots and sticks with Isreali forces.

Onwuka said: “We will return back to Enugu government house on August 20. The Nigerian government has 31 days to run and wound up. Enugu is the capital of Biafra.

“The Enugu government house is the property of Biafra. It does not belong to Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, it does not belong to Mohammadu Buhari and also does not belong to Nigeria. I will seize the place on that day and the Isreali forces will be backing us on that day and we are inviting all Biafrans, students, Middle Belt, South-South and South west to come out and receive their freedom on that day.”

Onwuka, who confirmed that they were charged with treasonable felony after their arrests, stated that the United States of America (USA) ordered their release from prison last month, adding however that the order was not carried out until Thursday night.

“The Magistrate who had earlier declined jurisdiction on the matter and sent us to prison, suddenly pronounced us discharged and acquitted. We simply walked out of prison and we thank the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, who issued the order.

“Nobody believed we will return from prison. We went in and we have come out. They can’t do anything and we are going to show that we have the power of Isreali behind us.

“The implication of that order is that we have defeated Nigeria. They can no longer shoot at us. That order has reinforced the struggle and Biafra has gained momentum as Southeast, South-South and Middle Belt are now asking for it,” he disclosed.

He announced a ban on all political activities in Biafraland, stressing that elections won’t hold on Biafra territories in 2019. He listed the areas where there would not be election in 2019 to include Southeast, South-South, Western region, Bakassi Peninsula, Middle Belt, saying they are part of the Biafra territory.

Onwuka added, however, that the Nigerian government was free to conduct elections in ten northern states of Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Jigawa, Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Boronu and Yobe states.

PoliticsGovernor Ortom Speaks On Joining PDP After Dumping APC by Itzpetersv(op): 8:15am On Jul 18, 2018
Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has said he has not declared for any party yet, despite the emergence of his campaign posters for the 2019 governorship election, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The posters appeared in Makurdi, the state state capital, barely 24 hours after Ortom said the All Progressives Congress (APC) gave him a “red card”.

The posters were put in strategic places alongside the earlier ones with APC symbol, but they did not bear the picture of Deputy Governor Benson Abounu.

However, speaking with The Nation, Ortom said he was yet to declare for any political party.

“Like I said earlier, I have been given a red card and I’m without a party.

“Maybe those who want to sign me are behind the posters, but I am yet to join any party,” Ortom said.

PoliticsEkiti Election: Apostle Suleman Fires Back At Presidency Over Failed Prophecy by Itzpetersv(op): 7:54am On Jul 18, 2018
Apostle Johnson Suleiman of the Omega Fire Ministries, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media, Lauretta Onochie for attacking him over the outcome of the Ekiti State governorship election.

Suleman said Onochie was dragging the Presidency “into the gutters. ”

In a prophecy, Apostle Suleman had said the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would emerge winner of the just concluded Ekiti State election.

But, the reverse was the case as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Kayode Fayemi was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Reacting, Onochie described the Cleric as not being in talking terms with God.

In a tweet, Onochie wrote, “Pastor who is not in talking terms with God but who continues to lie with God’s name.”

However, Suleman described the remark by Onochie as a poorly-executed hatchet job and barefaced lies.

A statement by the Omega Fire Ministries Spokesman, Mr. Phrank Shaibu said ”It is common knowledge that the quality of media management in the nation’s presidency has taken a nosedive since President Muhammadu Buhari took office, but the presidency hit a new low on Sunday when Onochie threw all pretences to the wind to rubbish a man of God with her unguarded vituperations and outright spewing of hate.”

He said “even if a primary school pupil had written that tweet, the lies told therein could not have been so recklessly blatant and so devoid of any shred of professionalism.”

The statement noted that Onochie lifted the purported prophesy from the wall of a facebook user who has since pulled the post down after discovering that it was false and unverifiable.

Shaibu said, “Isn’t it unbecoming that a presidential spokesperson is propagating an unverified report? Apostle never made the purported statement being credited to him at any fora and I challenge her to provide a contrary source to the one I just mentioned or produce any shred of evidence to support her claim.

”But we hasten to say that we sympathise with Lauretta Onochie as we know that life itself has not been fair to her. Our appeal is that she should not vent her frustration on the church. The other day, it was the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that she attacked, today, it is Omega Fire Ministries. Who knows which Church is next?

“After careful examination, we think that Lauretta Onochie is burdened by the challenges of life and is gradually going off her rocker. If not, why should anybody in his or her right frame of mind, not even a presidential aide, sit down in one corner of his or her room, pick up a fable on social media and then begin to broadcast it on social media?”

Shaibu said contrary to Onochie’s assertion, Apostle Suleiman is a “non partisan man of God, whose constituency is the church and has people of different political divides as members.”

“Our major point of departure from the Buhari-led administration is the senseless massacre of harmless Christians across the country and Omega Fire Ministries will not keep quiet until the day Christians and Nigerians are at large consider their country as a safe haven,” the statement said.

PoliticsKatsina Flood: Buhari Reacts To Death Of 44 Nigerians by Itzpetersv(op): 9:06am On Jul 17, 2018

PoliticsHerdsmen Killings: Why Buhari Should Not Be Blamed – Muslim Group by Itzpetersv(op): 9:09am On Jul 16, 2018
The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has urged Nigerians to stop blaming President Muhammadu Buhari for killings across the country.

MURIC said politicians and tribal bigots should be blamed for the killings.

The body made the remark in a statement signed and sent to DAILY POST by its leader, Ishaq Akintola.

According to MURIC, “It is unfair to blame Buhari for our inability to stop killings. Security is a collective responsibility particularly on the different arms of government: the executive, the judiciary and the legislature. The press as the Fourth Estate of the Realm also has a vital role to play there. So are the citizens.

“In the case of Nigeria today, instead of cooperating with the executive, our legislature is an open enemy even in a sensitive matter like the security of lives and properties. For example, as killings occur on a daily basis, Buhari made a move in April 2018 to procure more weapons to fight insecurity but a hostile Senate turned down the request.

“National Assembly (NASS) made so much fuss about Buhari’s request for $1 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, threatening to impeach him for approving its release without its consent. The same self-serving legislature delayed the budget for seven months just to get back at the executive and of course no money can be released before the Appropriation Act is signed into law.

“Yet the first on the list of twelve resolutions of the NASS issued on 5th June, 2018 was that ‘The Security Agencies must be given marching orders to curtail the sustained killings of Nigerians across the country and protect life and properties of Nigerians’. This is grossly unfair. NASS also declined to accede to Buhari’s request to approve the sum of $496 million for the procurement of Super Tucano aircfraft from the United States. Yet Nigerians failed in their duty to question the right of their lawmakers to endanger their lives.

“Apart from the problem of herders and farmers, the recent revelation by Hon. Ahmed Maje that certain politicians sponsored killers and assssins who were trained in Israel has completely absolved President Muhammadu Buhari in the killings. Weapons for the clandestine operations were smuggled into the country through our porous boarders. It was only a few containers which were seized by customs that we heard of. Many others were safely delivered.”

MURIC urged Nigerians to adopt a holistic approach to killings occurring in the country.

It also claimed that “the killings were not new as more than 1,000 Muslims were massacred, roasted and eaten up in cannibal style by the Berom Christian militia of Plateau state in 2001. These areas should have been properly covered by the Nigerian media.”

The statement added, “Ours is not an isolated case but we are behaving as if Nigeria is an island. Farmer-herder clashes are common everywhere, particularly in West Africa. Take Ghana as an example. Earlier this year, cattle rustlers invaded farmlands in Ashanti, Volta, Brong Ahafo and the Eastern regions leading to killings and the destruction of farms. But Ghanaians did not crucify their president because of the clashes. To solve this problem, Ghana established its first cattle ranch last week at Afram Plains in the eastern region. It plans to establish more in the Volta and Ashanti regions.

“It is time to face realities. We must borrow a leaf from Ghana. That country is as multi-religious and multi-cultural as Nigeria. Herders and farmers clashes can be avoided if we objectively consider the recommendation for the establishment of ranches. Ghanaian President Akufo-Addo had in March this year expressed his administration’s intention to establish cattle ranches to curb the menace of herders. He has succeeded in doing that because Ghanaians did not look at his tribe or religion. They considered what will benefit them.

“Our problems in this country are political shenaniganism, acrobatic religiousity and ethnic demagoguery. Instead of treating the tangentials, we always go for the peripheral. We amplify sentimental aspects and trivialize the real issues. Instead of considering the antecedent of a leader, we are more interested in his tribe and religion. We treat symptoms but we leave the real ailment. How then can we move forward as a people? Don’t ask who did this to Nigeria because we are the architects of our own woes”.

MURIC lamented the failure of the elites and the academic community to liberate themselves from ethnic jingoism.

Quoting Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, Akintola said, “The late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo said it all, ‘If you are emotionally attached to your tribe, religion or political leaning to the point that truth and justice become secondary considerations, your education is useless. Your exposure is useless. If you cannot reason beyond petty considerations, you are a liability to mankind’.

“Nigerian lawmakers should take the lion share of the blame, followed by the citizens and the media. They should all accept their culpability in this peculiar mess instead of blaming the executive since the latter has done what is humanly possible within the law”.

PoliticsWhat Is Happening In Ekiti State Does Not Make Me Happy' - Ooni Of Ife by Itzpetersv(op): 4:10pm On Jul 13, 2018
The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II says he is unhappy about the happenings in Ekiti as the state prepares for the July 14 governorship elections.

The monarch spoke while hosting the British High-Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright at his palace in Ile-Ife in Osun State calling for an end to crisis and violence.

“What I heard happening in Ekiti State during this electioneering period does not make me happy as their father. Enough of crisis, we do not want any crisis in Yorubaland. Where there is violence, progress and tranquillity will be deprived, but where there is peace, there is progress. I specifically warn all youths in Ekiti state to maintain peaceful coexistence before, during and after the election, as brighter future awaits them if they productively discover themselves,” Ooni said.

He also urged the youths not to allow themselves to be used as agents of electoral violence and criminality. He said the youths should rather aim to lead in the political capacity such as governorship or presidency in the nearest future.

The British envoy, Paul Arkwright who is also the United Kingdom Chief Observer to Nigeria on the Ekiti gubernatorial election also joined voices with the Ooni and called for free, fair, credible and peaceful election in Ekiti State on Saturday. He said the purpose of his coming is based on observing the conduct of Ekiti gubernatorial election which precedes 2019 Presidential by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

PoliticsHerdsmen Killings: Oby Ezekwesili Reacts To Buhari’s Plea For Patience by Itzpetersv(op): 11:59am On Jul 13, 2018
A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari asked Nigerians to be patient while killings in many parts of the country continue.

Ezekwesili took to her Twitter handle on Thursday to attack Buhari for saying Nigerians should wait while his security chiefs come up with the solution to the incessant killings in the country.

The former Minister noted that Buhari made the comment because he is totally detached from what is going on in the country.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President had said his security team were racking their brains to come up with a lasting solution.

He said this while condemning the killings of scores of people, including a district head, in Gandi village in the Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State by bandits.

But Ezekwesili tweeted, “Did he (Buhari) just say be patient? This is all we need as citizens to know that our President is very detached from the reality of what his people have been telling him to stop the killings.

“His security teams are racking their brains? This is too much.”

PoliticsBuhari Signs Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit Bill Into Law by Itzpetersv(op): 11:45am On Jul 12, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit bill (NFIU) 2018 into law.

NAN reports that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Sen. Ita Enang, confirmed this development while briefing State House correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) is the Nigerian arm of the global Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) which was before now domiciled within the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) as an autonomous unit and operating in the African Region.

“The Act creates NFIU to be domiciled in the Central Bank but to work autonomously and independently. The Act is intended to allow this agency to collate and disseminate financial intelligence to security agencies, intelligent agencies and other agencies which are entitled to receive it.

“And what they collate is for instance transfers of money where money comes from, where it goes and other suspicious transactions including transaction relating to terrorism financing.

“What the law also does is to amend the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act, the Money Laundering Prohibition Act and the Terrorism Prevention Act so that all these functions of financial intelligence which were performed by each of these agencies or which allowed the provision of money for illegal purposes or laundering would now be handled by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit independently.

“And when they collate it they make it available to enforcement and enforcing institutions and that is the essence of the Act and it is available for every person, it has now become law,’’ he said.

He said that the NFIU sought to comply with international standards on combating money laundering and financing of terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Enang emphasized that with the signing of the new Act, the NFIU would now be excised from the EFCC.

Some leaders of a faction of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, on Monday afternoon gathered in Abuja to sign a memorandum with opposition parties for the 2019 general elections.

The Reformed APC (R-APC) members were led to the Monday event by their leader Buba Galadima.

PREMIUM TIMES last week published how the R-APC announced itself. The faction is believed to have the backing of Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. The actions of the faction have been condemned by the APC leadership.

On Monday, Mr Galadima met with leaders of opposition parties like the PDP and SDP to sign the memorandum of understanding.

Apart from Mr Galadima, others at the Monday meeting from the PDP include Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a senator, Dino melaye, and Akwa Ibom State Governor; Emmanuel Udom.

A former senator, Ben Obi, who briefed journalists, said the parties gathered to sign a memorandum for a coalition that will take over power in 2019 and esnure the defeat of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC.

He described the 2019 election as a battle between light and darkness, saying the coalition is the light that has come to rescue Nigeria.

PoliticsINEC Announces Temporary Suspension Of Voter Registration by Itzpetersv(op): 8:17pm On Jul 08, 2018
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a temporary suspension of the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise.

According to Augusta Ogakwu, Secretary to the commission, who announced this in a memo to resident electoral commissioners, the exercise will be temporarily suspended on August 17 to enable sufficient time for data capture and production of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

She said the suspension decision was taken after consultations with stakeholders regarding the electoral process, especially pertaining to the voter registration.

“The stakeholders expressed satisfaction with the commission’s preparedness for the conduct of the 2019 general election and enjoined the commission to continue to do more to ensure free, fair and credible elections,” read the memo, dated July 6.

“On the CVR, the stakeholders noted the need to comply with statutory timelines and unanimously agreed that sufficient time be given between the data capture, processing and production of PVCs.

“Based on the recommendations of the stakeholders and taking into consideration the statutory obligations to end the revision, update, certification and publication of the voters’ register for the general elections, the commission decided to suspend the ongoing CVR at 3.00pm on Friday, 17th August, 2018 until after the general election.”

Ogakwu, however, added that collection of PVCs will continue until a week to the commencement of general election on February 16, 2019.

“The commission will undertake, overhaul and intensify its publicity initiatives in order to ensure that all qualified Nigerians who wish to register are able to do so and collect their PVCs before the general election,” she said.
