A 34-year-old man, Gabriel Bassey has been arrested in Indianapolis, the U.S state of Indiana, on preliminary murder charges after police say he killed his mother.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department news release, the accused and his 54-year-old mother, Patricia Bassey, were involved in a fight on Tuesday.

The suspect called 911 on himself and told dispatchers he killed his mother during a fight.

Around 11:20 a.m. on Wednesday, IMPD officers were dispatched to the 8000 block of East 20th Street, where they found Patricia suffering from apparent trauma.

Medics pronounced her dead. The cause of death was Blunt force trauma.

When police interviewed Bassey at police headquarters, he confessed to killing his mother. According to the affidavit,

"Gabriel became enraged with his mother after she slapped him during an argument the night before. Shoved his mother onto the sofa and began hitting her in the face… when she fell to the floor face down he continued to assault her.”

Neighbors in the adjoining condos say they didn’t hear any signs of an assault, during which court documents show Gabriel told police he repeatedly kicked his mom in the torso.

Court records claim, “The assault concluded when Gabriel finally realized what he was doing to his mother, stopped and went upstairs to bed… leaving his mother face down but breathing.”

When he woke up on Wednesday the suspect said he, “found his mother was in the same position she was the night before, but she was not breathing.”

“This issue is one that does not discriminate,” said Catherine O’Connor with the Julian Center.

O’Connor says while most people think of domestic violence between a husband and wife, crimes involving children and parents are also common.

A search of police records doesn’t show any prior domestic violence history involving the suspect, but O’Connor says there are often warning signs before violence turns deadly.

“I hope big picture folks realize this is a problem that belongs to all of us. They likely know someone in a situation where they need help,” said O’Connor. “Everyone plays a role in trying to stop it. This is something is important for every member of this community. Everyone has a role to play.” he added.

Gabriel was transported to the City-County Building prisoner intake for processing and he Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case for a final charging decision.

Rats have been blamed after bank notes that amount to 1.2m rupees (£13,300, $17,600) were found shredded to bits in a malfunctioning cash machine in Assam, India.

Technicians arrived to fix the malfunctioning ATM and were shocked to see the money in it has been destroyed. Pictures of the shredded bank notes at the State Bank of India branch in Tinsukia district were widely shared on Twitter.



Rats have been suspected as responsible for the damage. In one of the pictures shared online, a dead rodent can be seen lying in the midst of the shredded cash. Police said the rodents probably entered the machine through a hole for wiring, the Hindustan Times reported.

Police official Prakash Sonowal said that the machine had been out of action for about 12 days, the Hindustan Times added. Technicians who took the unit apart found banknotes of 2,000 and 500 rupee denominations destroyed. They managed to salvage another 1.7m rupees, officials said.

Over 20 people have been reportedly killed with many others still missing in Kitwe, Zambia after the infamous black mountain collapsed at about 09:50 am this morning.

According to Zambian Accurate, the mountain is said to have started collapsing yesterday and today it collapsed completely during mining activities. Many youths are still trapped under part of the mountain.

Police and other rescuing teams are currently at the scene.

Fernando Hierro replaces sacked Julen Lopetegui as Spain manager for World Cup 2018 clash against Portugal

Spain have named Fernando Hierro as Julen Lopetegui's replacement following the new Real Madrid boss' sacking.
Lopetegui was sensationally axed on Wednesday just 24 hours after it was announced he would take over at the Bernabeu following the World Cup .


Former Real Madrid and Bolton star Hierro will be in the dugout on Friday when Spain open their Group B campaign against Portugal.


The 50-year-old is Spain's sporting director and his only managerial experience is a year in charge of Oviedo.


Hierro spent 14 years at Real Madrid before a year in Saudi Arabia and 12 months at Bolton.


He won 89 caps for his country.
On Wednesday, Spain delayed a press conference at the Krasnodar Stadium by well over an hour before Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales announced the decision.


He said: "We have been forced to dispense with the national coach."
Rubiales added: "We wish him the best of luck."Suggestions first emerged early on Wednesday that Rubiales was not happy with the situation and would remove Lopetegui just two days before Spain's Group B opener.


Addressing the media in Russia, Rubiales revealed he had only been told of Real's decision five minutes before they announced Lopetegui's appointment.


"The negotiation occurred without the RFEF having any information," Rubiales said. "(We were told) just five minutes before the press release. We have a way of behaving that needs to be adhered to.


"The Spain team is the team of all Spaniards. You can't do things this way, two or three days before the World Cup. We have been obliged to make this decision."
