@ safedavid, I understand that you are trying to stand up for me. However, I'm strongly against you threatening other contestants. The unhealthy rivalry has been what I have hated most about this year's competition and I most certainly do not wana be a part of it . Me crying my eyes out? Biko o ![]() which burial dem do for nairaland wey warrant crying? ![]() @ Falconey (no beef with you too by the way). #theivyyleague we are in this till the end. Good night. |

joseph1832:In my opinion, the social media is the way to go. Government should encourage the youth by enhancing the ICT education in our various schools. This should drive the information dissemination of government activities. Creation of a platform where youths Robb minds for enhanced socioeconomic awareness won't be a bad idea. |
Mediapace:Proposals are not firmed up over the cyberspace. Firstly you need to be closer to your buddy and fratanise with him or her physically. However, my reaction would neither be yes or no . |
Vickyydera:Ideally, devaluing the naira is to encourage exports, because the prices of local products serve as an incentive and a toast for foreign buyers. In the process, we earn foreign exchange, increase production and create additional jobs. Unfortunately, that is not the position with Nigeria as we are an import dependent country. Just today, there was a tactical devaluation of our currency leaving a free floating naira and this should be advantageous to the economy in the long run |
tosyne2much:While I can not totally agree on Seun's decision to ban forex trading and football betting on nairaland, as I believe everyone should have the right to choose what is wrong or right from the site, as long as it is not illegal or morally wrong, I also I understand why Seun took the decision because generally betting discourages youths from investing their time and energy in profitable investment. Nevertheless, I believe sports betting should be an expression of an individuals passion for whatever sports that interests them. I believe more people need to be educated on the reasons why they should engage in such ventures. In my opinion presiding over a country goes beyond having a 'certificate' (which is paramount by the way), it has to do with understanding the way a country works, the driving force of a typical Nigerian on the streets, the working structure already existing. Of course, having a certificate is a prerequisite for becoming a president, but it should not be the deciding factor on the leadership capabilities, economically soundness and emotional clearness needed for a leader of a great nation such as Nigeria. Robert Mugabe is currently the world's most educated president while Abraham Lincoln is one American least educated president. Between the two of them, who would you rather have govern Nigeria right now? Yes sire, I see myself winning this. I'm intelligent and articulate. I've got a magnetic personality that makes me unique. I am calm, poised, gracious, reserved and likeable. On the prize money, i and my team members have decided to use it for our charity project to help people fighting depression. |
joseph1832:Yes , assuming I am the guy in that situation. |
tosyne2much:Ideally every adult has a right to be in a relationship if they deem it fit. So going by my perspective, a broke guy is entitled to be in a relationship as long as he is being loved and accepted for who he is. On husband material. Becoming a family person involves maturity and emotional balance and more importantly, the ability to provide the basic needs of your future family. This factors to me determine how much of a husband material a man is. Yes, I will definitely forgive. I got married to her for so many other beautiful reasons asides her virginity. Heaven knows I'd be really mad and almost inconsolable at first but I would heal. However, I would need some space to achieve that . I can't date a yahoo guy. "Yahoo' is illegal and should be condemned as it portrays a negative view of our society. In as much as the yahoo guys are humans, I would not date someone who goes against what is ethically and morally right. |
tosyne2much:Good evening beautiful ladies and gentlemen. My name is Aretha Oluwasikemi Ndoh. My moniker was coined from a character (Poisonivy) from an old batman movie. I hail from Imo state. I'm currently single. At 25years old, i'm a graduate of Communication Arts from the University of Ibadan. My major bad habit would be ingestion of too much sugar. I'm so addicted to chocolate cakes and Coca-Cola. |

armadeo:Be persistent dear. Don't ignore and think they would get over it all by themselves. If you are aware of the source of their depression, then you could help out with it. Try and make things lighter and easier for them. You will need to be really patient and whatever you do, don't ever give up on them. Just keep trying! Take them out, be a confidant, crack jokes, get them to talk to someone etc. My dear, Just be available |
Shinyjay:Dear, Suicide is not an option and It can NEVER replace the Solution.. I cannot say that your days won't be shrugged with travails, but I can assure you that eventually things will fall into place. What I would Advise based on experience are as follows 1. Try to Ponder over the good things Life has offered so far even in your travails .2. Get a confidant or mentor someone you can relate with. Someone capable of reaching out to you, getting you out of the sober mood you always find yourself . 3. Do things that make you happy. Do this with family and friends. Take a walk and appreciate life. Read inspirational books, listen to music, go into volunteering. In short, get out of yourself! Avoid sulking dearie 4. Give Thanks to God at all. Muslim or Christian there is no greater love than that of God. And there is no plan more superior than that which He has for your life. Don't take a life you didn't create .God is moved when you thank Him for "nothing".Trust God with his words. If you are Christian, remind Him of His words, for He honours His words. Reference scriptures like Deuteronomy 31:8, Psalm 40:1-3, Psalm 42:11, Isaiah 41:10, John 16:33 .Learn to enjoy every bit of your life, Cause no one Is getting out of this world alive . |

CountDracula:Thanks dear ![]() @ post , exactly no one should be ignorant of this condition. |
I was 15, I came home on holiday, I knew I ought to be happy, but I was not. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t fathom what was wrong with me. I began to withdraw from my family, quietly at first, then, my feeling of alienation grew until I convinced myself no one cared about me. I would spend hours in my room, alone, doing nothing but refusing to talk or even see anyone. I was disinterested in the whole world. Gradually I became angry, angry at myself, angry at everyone around me and angry with the world. I would snap at those closest to me at the slightest provocation and just like that, I became a very unhappy teenager. The nights were no better either. I would toss and turn in bed wishing sleep could take me away even for just a few minutes. I spent most nights stealing my mother’s sleeping pills just to get relief to my insomnia. Although, I can’t exactly remember how I overcame it, it took me quite a while to understand that what I went through at that age was depression. When I think about it now, I realise that it could have been worse. People who do not understand the real nature of this condition may simply associate it with self-indulgence or a fleeting emotion or mood. A major misconception is the belief that depression is basically a character flaw, something common with attention seeking spoiled brats. Little wonder why well-meaning family and friends who are ignorant of the seriousness of this condition would wave it off subtly or say things like “get over it, it is all in your mind”. What depression is Depression is a serious condition that not only affects the mind but the entire well-being of an individual. It is the state of being unwell physically, emotionally and psychologically Depression is uncontrollable. Like many other mental conditions, depression can be proven scientifically. Scientists say that depression is caused by a disorder in the brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are some of the brain circuits responsible for mood, sleep, appetite, thinking and behaviour. When these neurotransmitters become impaired, depression will most likely occur. Fact 1: many people will suffer from this condition at some point in their life time . This is because as humans, we are all susceptible to general feelings of sadness, negativity, helplessness and emptiness. However, major depressive moods are highly distinguished and identified by its severity, persistence and duration. Fact 2: Since depression is relatively common in humans, it is known to occur in one in every five individuals. This is why this condition should be considered seriously and given adequate attention it deserves. Fact 3: Depression is understood to often worsen the symptoms of other diseases. For instance, people who are depressed and yet suffer from stroke or other heart related diseases are more likely to die earlier than non-depressed patients suffering from a similar ailment. Some common symptoms of depression include: The seemingly unending feelings of emptiness, restlessness, shame and guilt. Depressed individuals also often experience disturbances in their sleep, poor appetites, bleak and pessimistic views of the future, hopeless misery, general sense of numbness, no capacity for emotion, irritable feelings, general feelings of weakness, chronic boredom, reoccurring thoughts of death and even worse suicidal thoughts. As a result, many depressed individuals eventually resort to self-destructive behaviours such as alcohol and drug abuse. Those who suffer these depressive moods stated above should be considered severely ill. They are harmful to themselves and those around them. Frankly, the need and effort to create or increase awareness for this condition cannot be overemphasized. Even The World health Organisation (WHO) calls our attention to this condition. WHO states that by the year 2020, depression will be the major cause of disability worldwide. Perhaps what makes depression difficult to recognise as an illness is that often or most times it is not visible to casual observers. For instance, when coming in contact with severely depressed people, many may dismiss them as being simply reserved, timid or even rude. However, there should be no reason to be ignorant of this condition, for it is this persistent bias associated with depression that has led to its under recognition and under treatment and hence, has impeded its management. If you have observed these symptoms of depression in a family member, close relative or friend, please do not ignore. Talk to them, get them to share or get them the help they need. Let us not forget, being happy is staying healthy.
