A cataract is a cloudy lens. It is a medical condition in which the lens of the eye becomes progressively opaque, resulting in blurred vision.

After 40, you will develop this eye condition and sadly, 51% of people have gone blind.

Cataracts is the leading cause of blindness worldwide. They affect millions of people, starting at the age of 40 and especially those over the age of 60.

More than 100 thousand cases are reported in Nigeria every year.

In this article, we'll discuss the prevalence of cataracts, their causes, and ways to prevent them

Cataracts Meaning and causes
Cataracts is the clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye.
Most cataracts develop slowly over the course of years.

What is the main cause of cataracts
Most cataracts are related to age — they happen because of normal changes in your eyes as you get older. But you can get cataracts for other reasons — like after an eye injury or after surgery for another eye problem (like glaucoma).

What are the signs and symptoms of cataracts?
• Cloudy or blurry vision.
• Lights are too bright and/or give off a glare or a halo.
• Poor night vision.
• Multiple (double) vision.
• Colors seem faded.
• Increased nearsightedness, increasing the need to change eyeglass prescriptions.
• Distortion of vision in either eye.

Prevalence / How common is cataracts?
According to the World Health Organization, cataracts account for 51% of world blindness.
95% of cataracts occur after the age of 40.
3.8 Million people in India go blind every year. There is no available data for Nigeria other than the 100 thousand reported cases in Nigeria every year.

Causes of Cataracts
Cataracts occur when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurred vision and eventual blindness if left untreated.

They can be caused by:
·aging
·genetics
·diabetes
·injury to the eye
·exposure to UV radiation

Prevention
Since age is the biggest factor, cataracts are inevitable.
Eventually, almost everyone will develop cataracts.

To delay cataract development:
·wear sunglasses
·quit smoking
·eat fruits and vegetables
·manage chronic health conditions such as diabetes

Treatment
If you are diagnosed with cataracts, surgery may be necessary to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with an artificial one.

This procedure is typically safe and effective, with a high success rate in restoring vision.

Cataracts are a common and serious eye condition that can lead to blindness if left untreated.

While some risk factors cannot be changed, there are steps you can take to reduce your risk of developing cataracts.

On July 18, 2023 this Youtube star Annabelle Ham died at the age of 22😢. She was young, healthy and attended a bachelorette party so I started researching why she died at such a young age.

Then I discovered that she died from an Epileptic event known as SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy).

Doctors say patients with uncontrolled seizures are at greatest risk for SUDEP.

So today I would like us to talk about EPILEPSY.

Epilepsy is a disorder in which the nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed, causing seizures.

Epilepsy is also known as: seizure disorder.

Epilepsy may occur as a result of a genetic disorder or an acquired brain injury, such as a trauma or stroke.

In all you do brother's and sister's, please avoid head injury. I know someone who had serious head inquiry almost 20 years ago, he just started having seizures since 4 years now.

Epilepsy Causes
In most cases, epilepsies are caused by genetic factors, traumatic brain injury (TBI), developmental brain abnormalities, infection, stroke, brain tumors etc.

Growing up in Nigeria, I noticed that once someone is having a seizure people would put spoon in their mouth and everyone would be shouting "pour am water" lol.

So how do you help someone epileptic?

1. DON'T put anything in the mouth of anyone having a seizure
2. Don't try to hold them down
3. Don't spray or pour them water
4. Place a soft cloth or pillow under their heads to minimise injuries.
5. Lay them on their left side to avoid spit or vomit entering their lungs
6. Remove tight clothing or belts
7. Take away any dangerous objects around them, eg wires, sharps etc
8. Time the episode, if it lasts longer than 5 minutes, take them to a hospital
9. The person has another seizure soon after the first one, take them to the hospital.

IykAnthony Charity Foundation has approved scholarship scheme for 10 indigenes of Amaimo[sub][/sub]. This is something I've been doing behind the scenes for years bc I don't like publicity but my lawyer told me the need to do it this way.

So this is a yearly grant of 100,000 Naira per student. From our little research, 100k is enough for registration, tuition etc.

My long term goal and dream is to train at least 100 indigenes of Amaimo through university education between now and 10 years time.

We are by this notice requesting interested students from Amaimo Clan to before December 30, 2022 collect, complete and submit their application forms for processing.

In line with our assignment to ensure that only indigents Amaimo people gets this scholarship, we took our plans to Professor ALISI CHINWE for professional advice.

*Professor Chinwe Alisi* is an Amuzu - Amaimo born Dean of Studies in Biological Sciences at SOSC, Federal University of Technology Owerri.

Mazi Ephraim Ihiasota and yours faithfully Comrade Agbagwa Kingsley O, a day before today met with him in his highly academic office.

Professor Alisi was excited to meet us and gave professional advice on how to go about the scheme.

In the first place he, thanked, prayed and blessed the donor Mr. Anthony Ikechukwu Uwawuike, the CEO of IYKBETHANY GROUP OF COMPANIES LTD.

Prof Alisi said he was glad when he read it in the most populous Amaimo Clan Platform and saw it as progressive deviation from regular political campaign that has characterized the platform.

He showed interest to be part of the whole system.

He told us what averagely a Tuition fees is in a Federal University using FUTO as a case study and cautioned that it should be pro-rata.

The University Don, immediately condemned the use of regular Mathematics, English Language, Biology or usual 5subjects to test indigents students for Scholarships.

In his words and I quote him categorically:

"I will advise that students should be subjected to APTITUDE Test which is a test of mental, accuracy and efficient ability,that it has to do with intelligent quotient -IQ and accuracy.

An Engineering student can get 100/100 in Mathematics against a Philosopher student whose area is Literature, so you can see that the Engineering student has more advantage but unlike Aptitude, it is not the same, the Prof. dropped.

He also said that we should select the best brilliants of the indigents and promise to assist in any manner we will need his assistant.

Good news guys, I finally found our Angel, all thanks to uncle Kingsley. BTW, her name is Nnenna.
When I made the first post 2 weeks ago, my cousin took me to Save The Child orphanage because he thought thats where I celebrated my birthday in 2019. Then they told me someone already adopted Nnenna.

After I made the second post my uncle said he saw the girl not too long ago and wondered if I went to the right place.

So uncle Kingsley took me to Golden Stars Orphanage and i found Nnenna. She couldn't recognise me cha cha.

Don't blame me guys because over the years I've been to so many orphanages so I don't remember which orphanage I visited in 2019.

The good thing is we found her but someone said she's so attached to Golden child founder that she may not release her to us.

Even if I don't adopt her, I will be responsible for all her bills and education up to university level. And at least I can always visit her and buy her toys, gifts. Doesn't really matter whether she lives in my house or not.

I'm so happy to know that I will be able to fulfil the promise I made to Nnenna in 2019. Glory be to God

Whatsapp has gone far in features, trying to create an app like Whatsapp will do no good.

You have to give people a reason not to use WhatsApp but your app. Such reasons will definitely require a lot of critical thinking.

You have a point but currently there are so many Whatsapp alternatives such as imo, viber etc.

Experts in the house, what will it take to create a messaging app with features such as audio and video calls, chats etc.

WhatsApp is down across the world and in my opinion it's high time we create softwares and messaging apps that could rival WhatsApp in the future.

Since we have many tech experts here as well as coders, programmers etc, let's all come together and build a messaging app, as an alternative to WhatsApp.

I'm heartbroken. I visited the orphanage as promised but that angel is no longer there. Someone already adopted her, though the proprietress advised me to adopt another girl to replace her.

Lol I don't know if she looks like me or not but yeah I'm married and my family is cool with it.

During my 2019 birthday celebration, I visited this orphanage in Owerri and that's where I met this angel.

We spent over an hour at the orphanage but when we're set to leave this angel refused to let me go.

She finally managed to let me go after I convinced her that I was going to come back to get her in few weeks.

To be honest I thought about her the whole week but gradually I forgot about it.

But for some strange reason I have been thinking about this girl since August 2022. Sometimes I wake up 2am and she's the only thing on my mind. There's this strong voice that's been telling me that I made an unfulfilled promise to an orphan. So I'm restless kinda.

Problem is I don't even remember the name of this orphanage so I've been searching everywhere. And this morning I found it as well as all the pictures we took that day.

In the coming weeks I'm going to locate the orphanage to find out if the girl is still there, and possibly start the adoption process which could take 1 year according to my lawyer.

But I would like to seek your opinion guys. Is adoption a good idea? Please share your thoughts and opinions whether positive or negative.

It's true that travelling to the UK for studies is expensive but coming for Masters with your spouse has the following benefits & advantages.

1. UK schools, colleges and universities are amongst the best in the whole world.

2. Your spouse and children will be able to join you in the UK.

3. Your spouse will be able to work full time while you study.

4. Either of you can get the skilled worker job, that will give both of you 5 years work permit then Permanent Residency.

5. The UK health system / NHIS is the best in the world.
So in my opinion it's worth it.

But please if you are earning up to 1- 2 million naira a month in Nigeria, there is really no point considering #Japa. You can build wealth faster in Africa on that salary than abroad.

I really want to understand why 7 out of every 10 Nigerian visa applicant want to migrate to Canada.

The hyping and desperation to travel to Canada is just too much and annoying. I'm sure that's why the visa refusal rate is very high coz Canada is not big enough to accommodate everyone.

In my opinion studying in the UK is better than Canada because one UK colleges and universities are amongst the best in the whole world.

Plus if you migrate to the UK to do masters you can bring your legal dependants (spouse/children) with you, I don't think Canada gives this opportunity.

And finally UK pounds is the strongest currency in the world.
