Up and coming Ghanaian artiste, C Jay calls out Psquare, claiming his song was stolen and sampled by the duo. According to C Jay, he tagged Psquare when he posted his song on social media, after which he was prompted by one lady that his song had been tampered with. He followed up to download “Bank Alert,” listened and realised that Psquare stole his tune and even went ahead to use some of his lines. “Stealing in a professional way, Psquare new tune “bank Alert” is a sample of my tune titled “Rokoto.” He said “I released Rokoto early this year; the tune went viral on social media, Facebook, Twitter, and the rest. I posted the link on P-Square wall on facebook, months later I got a tag from a lady here in Ghana, she updated on Facebook that P square’s new tune (“Bank Alert” sounds like Cjay Rokoto”),” “This is where I came in the story, I quickly downloaded their tune to listen and it was very bad that they sampled almost everything in my Rokoto tune. From the bass line, the rhythm, the progression the grove and even took the first line of ma first verse (today na today ooo) from ma tune “Rokoto”,” “I respect P square a lot; I learn from them, never thought they could do this to a poor boy like me who has struggled for more than ten years been underground. I wish ma voice will reach as far as it can, so everyone will know I’m disappointed in them,” “Bank Alert” is a nice song, I don’t doubt it, but they don’t have to do this to me as a whole, no disrespect, Psquare sample my song ‘Rokoto’, and am disappointed in them.” http://greennews.ng/ghanaian-artiste-calls-out-psquare-over-song-theft/

Obviously perturbed by the activities of the Niger Delta Militants, NDA, President Mohammadu Buhari Friday night went spiritual, pleading with them in God's name to have mercy on the country and soft pedal on the destruction of oil and gas installations in the region. The president stated that there could be many factions of the Niger Delta Militants also said that the groups were armed with sophisticated weapons which might less than what Boko Haram used against the country in the north eastern part. President Buhari said that the economy was on its knees following the bombing of gas pipelines. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/pipeline-bombing-in-gods-name-i-plead-with-with-you-to-take-it-easy-buhari-tells-niger-delta-militants/ |

Former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Peter Okebukola, has said that Nigerian universities deviated from the initial agreement NUC had with Vice-Chancellors in 2004 when it introduced post-UTME to screen candidates on oral interview and written essay. He also said out the present position as revealed to him by the Vice-Chancellors, after their meeting with Malam Adamu Adamu last Thursday, was that the Minister had directed that universities should no longer conduct the same type of test as JAMB, but should be free to further subject candidates to screening to meet their local peculiarities. Okebukola, who spoke exclusively with Vanguard, lamented that universities had since deviated from the initial agreement of post-UTME disclosed that the 2004 model had a screening component which was agreed with all vice- chancellors to be through oral interview and essay which JAMB assessment did not cover. The former NUC Scribe expressed joy in the scrapping of post-UTME, adding that it now took the universities system back to the original model of post-UME which NUC initiated in 2004 while he served as Executive Secretary. While expatiating on reasons for the introduction of post- UTME in 2014, he explained that the NUC and the vice- chancellors discovered that more than ever before, they needed to admit into the universities, secondary school leavers, from the large pool, including those who have at least two characteristics. The first characteristic, he noted, was to ensure that admission seekers attained minimum cognitive competence in the relevant subjects in the discipline they wished to study; and second to test their competence in written and oral English, critical thinking and ability to present ideas in logical sequence befitting of undergraduates in Africa’s most-expansive and well-regarded university system. ‘’JAMB’s UTME targets only the first characteristic; while the university-level screening should measure the second,’’ he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/scrapping-post-utme-varsities-screen-candidates-oral-essay-admission/ |

Jonathan who arrived the institute accompanied by a delegation from the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, also advocated the readiness of Nigeria and Africa for the sustenance of democratic principles, peace and people- oriented governance. He was received by Francois Baird, Chairman of the Presidential Precinct Board. The Presidential Precinct, a foremost global institution designed to empower the next generation of leaders, is currently hosting Jonathan for his role in Nigeria’s smooth democratic transition, especially with the seamless handover of power from the ruling party to the opposition. At the Presidential Precinct breakfast, President Jonathan was received by former Governor Jerry Baliles of Virginia and Francois Baird Chairman of the Presidential Precinct Board. His hosts described him as a ‘Hero of Democracy’ in Africa, a nation builder and sustainer of true democratic principles and good governance. While in the United States, Jonathan is billed to be hosted by other strategic US pro-democracy institutions where he would be sharing his experience on peaceful and transparent elections as well as the future of Africa’s democracy. The Presidential Precinct is a consortium uniting six American landmark institutions – four of America’s most important historic sites and two of the country’s most outstanding public universities. These include the College of William and Mary (America’s second oldest university), the University of Virginia, William Short’s Morven, and the homes of three Founding Fathers;President Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, President James Madison’s Montpelier and President James Monroe’s Ash-Lawn Highland. Jonathan has hit the international circuit lately, with last’s week’s appointment by Commonwealth to lead negotiations for the resolution of the political stalemate in Zanzibar, coming as his latest high profile assignment. It followed his leadership of the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) to last month’s Tanzania general election which came as an affirmation of the former President’s towering status as the moral face of democracy and transparent polling in Africa http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/what-jonathan-told-us-presidential-precinct-board/ |
