Nova15: Golden Eye - 7/10 Tommorow Never Dies - 6/10 The World is Not Enough - 6/10 Die Another Day - 5/10
I've Finally wrapped seeing all Pierce Brosnan's bond movies the same way I saw all Daniel Craig's bond movies last week and I must say Daniel Craig is ahead of pierce as James Bond. I can't say if it's because Daniel Craig's movies are more recent but the only Brosnan's movie that can compare to any of Craig's is Golden eye. "Die another day"shouldn't even be existing as a bond movie. Very unrealistic, plotholes everywhere and horrible acting from Halle Berry. Brosnan has the flair and charisma but Daniel Craig tops him in every other thing.
Die another day had one of the best openings. Even crazier than the pakour opening scene in casino royale.
Also, the banging track by Madonna was mad. I just loved Die another day.
The movie had the same problems as Inhumans. That is, the movie does not have a central villain and the movie seem disjointed at times. It was predictable that one of them would betray them.
Nonetheless, I never expected Robb Stark and John Snow would both be in love with a cersie.
LordReed: And l echo Sochaux in saying it doesn't matter. As long as you agree that the individual can create meaning then the cosmic level is subsumed in the individual purpose. The cosmic level doesn't and can't give meaning so there no point in looking out there for it.
LordReed: I didn't ask you to respond to Sochaux, I said we should discuss after you've read his response. I did so because he more eloquently speaks about some of what I tried to say and more than adequately deconstructs some of the flaws of the nihilistic position.
The way he deconstructed the nihilistic position that value is a meaningless thing is one of the ways Sochaux echoes my thoughts. That somethings ends does not make it valueless.
Another thing I would like to add is purpose, meaning and value are all concepts that can only be held in conscious minds. The universe is not conscious so to expect it to have these things is absurd, this however doesn't mean these concepts cannot be had or held.
Nice.
Here are some of my counter points to you and sochaux.
1. One needs to define nihilism and the type of nihilism to be addressed before discussing nihilism.
2. Cosmic nihilism is what I am talking about and I like the definition given in one of your links
that there is no benevolent God watching over humanity, and that, in the vast scheme of the cosmos, stretching out to infinity, humanity and the individual are less than insignificant; indeed, nearly unnoticeable and invisible.
3. Regarding point number 2, I separate the cosmic level from the individual level. There is meaning in the individual level because we as humans have reasoning and can create our own meaning.
4 Just like the cosmic level, the quantum level has no meaning. At the quantum level, your fingers can't really touch anything. Things pop in and out of existence. A microuniverse that is indifferent and uncaring to everything we think we know.
In summary, we both agree about the individual being able to create meaning. I am not a moral nihilist or epistemological or existential nihilist.
You escape Nihilism once you realize that it is a pseudo-philosophical position. It is pseudo-philosophical because the intuitions behind the position are so flawed that hardly any philosopher ever takes the position seriously intellectually.
So, why would you even consider asking if it is believed unless you are the sort who believes pseudo-philosophy, which you wouldn't if you but understood?
See dodging. Simple question, you didn't answer.
If Sochaux believes that Nihilism is pseudo-philosophy, I wonder why Neitzche is more popular than Sochaux among philosophers.
LordReed: Yes there is meaning because I give it meaning. I don't need a god or even other humans to tell me the meaning.
My point exactly-
JackBizzle: I believe that I am a cosmic nihilist and I subscribe to the relatively new idea of "optimistic nihilism" My solution to this paradox is to separate the meaninglessness on a universal level from the logic that exists in the reasoning of the individual human life. What I mean is that, life has no intrinsic meaning and we are a spec of dust in terms of the whole universe but that does not stop us from creating our own purpose.
To further explain this, I will use the quantum world to explain. In real life, when you put your finger on something, you are touching it and you can feel it. However, in the quantum world (when view things to a very microscopic level), you are not actually touching anything, there is a space between your finger and what you are touching. In the quantum world, everything thing you are doing becomes meaningless. Does the quantum world change the fact that you are touching something with your fingers? No!
What the quantum world analogy explains is that the meaninglessness of a particular thing does not change the reality of another. We are but a speck of dust in the cosmos. That does not stop us from existing and functioning in the very speck of dust that we call our planet.
Cosmicism states that there is no benevolent God watching over humanity, and that, in the vast scheme of the cosmos, stretching out to infinity, humanity and the individual are less than insignificant; indeed, nearly unnoticeable and invisible.
Do you not agree with the above sentiment?
If your answer is 'yes', then you are a cosmic nihilist.
iSufferFools: SARS was rebranded into SWAT something you social media nitwits protested against and say it's the same SARS members who will make up its members. So what on earth are you yapping about, you delusional twerp.
Now here you are saying nonsense as usual, you anus damaged scoundrel.
Your case is worse that than of the average tout on the street, who have absolutely nothing going on for them, aside being assholes and scourge on society.
Police have reduced on the street my ass. You're just a demented bastard, I would have pitied you but heck, it's be as useless as your impoverished existence.
Have you seen SWAT on the road?
#EndSARS ended SARS and you are claiming that you didn't see any positive effect of the protest.
Guy. Say NO to drugs. You brain cells have been fried.
budaatum: You will make me get angry easily, as Shadeyinka would tell you, if you continue with this line of argument instead of informing yourself, because even other planets in our solar system periodically go around the sun, as do planets in all solar systems.
And do other planets go around the sun at the same elevation and period as the earth? What about a planet like Neptune that is very far away from the sun?
budaatum: Are you preaching your beliefs to me or philosophising in order to learn, Jack?
There was a time God built the heaven and the earth in six days but we recently landed a probe on very far away Mars, so evidence suggests that we can at least try to comprehend instead of nihilistically giving up and claiming it is purposeless or meaningless or beyond you!
If Eve thought the way you suggest, humans will still be naked and enslaved in Eden!
Are you a christian deist?
Or is your Jedi master nature coming out again? Speaking in riddles like Yoda?
budaatum: No one cares about the perspective of a clock, Jack. Fact is, time, the space between two events that we built the clock to objectively measure, obviously does exist or the clock we built would measure nothing.
This is basic philosophy that everyone should know before contemplating the advance subject of this thread, and if you haven't already I strongly suggest you inform yourself
We on earth use the movements of the sun and moon to calculate time.
Have you considered how meaningless this is, especially if one were on a planet with no moons? Even just being on another planet would make one see how abstract time is.
