Davash222:Money is not a problem. Learning Igbo is. Answer the question or leave. |
I am from amaigbo in imo state. I have been trying to find the easiest Igbo dialect to learn so that I can proceed on my own to learn other dialects. I heard that imo state dialect is the easiest. I don't know how to proceed since I don't know any relative staying there. How do I go about in learning the language? My dad is not a part of my life and my mom doesn't want to teach me. I'm not close to my aunts and uncles so I can't really meet them. I want to know how to proceed in learning the language of a place where I know no one. Thanks. |
BornInApril:Which God? |
Eddlad:More than enough has been done in the search for God, yet we find nothing. Google the search for God and you will know that there are people who have spent their entire lives on the search for God. If there is a God that wants to be found we would find it, until then people should not believe in something that seems to be nothing more than a made up being. BTW, what would you say of a father that waits for his child to'find'him instead of showing himself without even being asked? If you can prove that your God exists and is the good that the Bible talks about, your quotes from the Bible would not be taken seriously. |
pennywys:The rags of religion should be thrown away so that we all could see the real world instead of the fantasies of religion. |
Ebiakpo33:Which is more risky? Crossing a road without looking because someone told to that the road is clear or looking to see if that person is correct before crossing? Giving up your life to an entire belief without first having evidence whether it is accurate AND good is risky! |
SuaveFinance:Be thankful to Allah for creating Satan to tempt you and cause you to do evil so that Allah would have reason to punish you. |
Page07:Blessed are they that look at the road to see if there is a car coming, for theirs is the other side of the road. You can apply that logic to anything. Blessed are those who have not seen Allah, but believe. Blessed are those who have not seen Vishnu but believe. Blessed are they who have not seen the flying spaghetti monster, but believe. Blessed are they who have not seen Mithra but believe. Blessed are they who have not seen a house but buy it. Blessed are they who have not seen a woman but marry her. Blessed are those who believe the earth is flat because the Bible says so. What you are asking me to do is just believe, Bleep evidence. I can't do that. If scientists did that, we would still be on the dark ages. |
KingEbukaNaija:Conservapidia says that "Militant atheists have a desire to propagate the doctrine, and differ from moderate atheists because they hold religion to be harmful." This is from a religious website, I might add. That's different from what you said. Also atheists are not malignant to theists, we just say that your beliefs are wrong and can be harmful. If you read your Bible, you would realize that if taken literarily, it will be harmful to people. Leviticus 20 prescribes the death punishment for insulting one's parents and adultery. We both know that these crimes are not worthy of death, but we have to realize that some people have actually died because of this law. There are many others in the Bible and Qur'an that shows how harmful religious can be and that's why we are against it. Also, if you see someone who believes in the flying spaghetti monster, would you keep quiet? No. You would go up to him and challenge his beliefs about it. Why can't some do the same to you when you believe in an imaginary God for which there is no scientific evidence. |
Ebiakpo33:EVIDENCE BEFORE BELIEF. |
yommyuk:A father places a bottle of poisonous pills on the table within their reach. He then tells the children not to take the pills or else they would die. The children who are too young to understand the gravity of death, climb on the table and share the poisonous pills. When he comes back, he finds his children unconscious, possibly dead. Is that father a loving father? Is he innocent when it comes to the possible death of his children? Now how about applying that to God in the case of the garden of Eden and see how loving God is. You can exonerate the father in the story above by saying that he didn't have any foreknowledge of his children's choice. You can use the fact that we imperfect humans make mistakes, you can't make an excuse for God. Godis omniscient and knows the beginning from the end. Therefore he knew the consequences for his actions. He KNEW that man would eat the tree, yet he put it there. He created man in such a way that man was gullible enough to be deceived by a talking snake. He KNEW the future that awaited his 'children' if he put this tree there. Do you think that God is truly innocent in all this? Also, remember that it was God that created Satan knowing fully well the monster that Satan would become. God know all this before hand and yet went on with his plan and you say that he is loving? |
Please can you give me a complete description of what God is to you. Include all characteristics you deem necessary to describe him/her. Explain why you think he/she exists and why you think he/she possesses such characteristics. I don't care about your religion or lack thereof. |
promise10:OK. I stand corrected. So what's your response? |
realmindz:Exactly! When I was questioning religion, I was constantly told to ignore all the parts that don't make sense and just hold on to the parts that work for me. If that's the case, no wonder there are several thousands of denominations of Christianity who are debating on what is right and wrong. It's mythology and it's sad to see grown up people believing that it is historical fact. |
Mixture between intellectual atheist and seeker agnostic. |
KingEbukaNaija:1) How do you know the Bible is the word of God? If you quote 1Timothy 3:16, please note that just because you were inspired by a tree to write a book doesn't mean that the book is the word of that tree. Also, this was referring to the Old Testament as the New Testament were not regarded as scriptures then. They were not even written yet. Remember, most of Christianity's doctrines are from the New Testament. 2) Why does evil exist if God is all good. A perfect being would be incapable of creating imperfection except it was what he wanted. Therefore, if God wanted imperfection and evil to exist, why does he blame man for man's imperfection when that was his will from the beginning. |
I don't believe that God exists, but if he did, he's the one in charge and responsible for everything. Therefore, he is at fault for the evils in this world. What I mean is that, God supposedly knows the end from the beginning and knew the consequences of creating Lucifer, yet he did. He knew that giving Lucifer certain characteristics would result in Lucifer rebelling against him and deceiving mankind which would lead to untold suffering of billions of people in hell, yet he did it. He is at fault, because we're are all his creation. Everything that exists comes from God one way or the other. Therefore if God created the good, he also created the evil and is responsible for both of them. A lots of people blame the devil for their misfortunes without realising that God is the one who created the devil. If you believe that God exists and is the creator of all things, you have to realize that he is also the creator if evil. Blaming humans for being curious or not worshipping God is like Bill Gates blaming Windows if the costumers don't like it. Like I said earlier, I don't believe in God and I think that the evils in this world are caused by a lot of things, but instead of just sitting down and saying useless prayers, I think we should go out out and do something about it. |
Whenever I get into a conversation about morality with a Christian, they always tell me that without the Bible, people would be immoral and that the Ten Commandments are the basis of most morality. But I ask, if the Ten Commandments are the basis of morality, why don't Christians keep to all of them. I'm sure you are thinking of the laws written in Exodus 20, but those aren't the Ten Commandments. In fact, they were just laws that were spoken to the children of Israel. They were never written on stone tablets and they were never called the 'Ten Commandments'. The real Ten Commandments lie in Exodus 34 :14-26 and are listed below: 1) Do not worship any other God, for the Lord, who's name is Jealous, is a jealous God. (Exodus 34:14-16) 2) Do not make cast idols. (Exodus 34:17) 3) Celebrate the feast of the unleavened bread. (Exodus 34: 18) 4) The first offspring of every womb belongs to me ... no one is to appear before me empty handed. (Exodus 34: 19-20) 5) Six days you shall labour, but on the seventh day, you shall rest. (Exodus 34: 21) 6) Celebrate the Feast of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year (Exodus 34:22) 7) Three times a year shall all your men appear before the Sovereign Lord, the God of Israel. (Exodus 34:23-24) Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast and do not let any of the sacrifice from Passover remain until morning. (Exodus 34:25)9) Bring the first fruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God. (Exodus 34:26) 10) Do not cook a goat in its mother's milk (Exodus 34: 26) These ten laws are the basis of all morality! (According to Christians) I think the laws speak for themselves on how stupid they are. If you don't believe me, check out the next two verses: "Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.' Moses was there forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. AND HE WROTE THE WORDS OF THE COVENANT -- THE TEN COMMANDMENTS." You and I know that these laws are stupid and should not be taken seriously, but according to Christians, since it is in the Bible, it is the WORD OF GOD! If so, why is it that you don't obey the Ten Commandments, the covenant between God and Israel, the real Ten Commandments. |
abduljabbar4:Everything else is ok? We have a poor healthcare system, our education is deteriorating by the year, there is high unemployment, high rate of violence, high mortality rates among infants and mothers, pedophilia is still legal in Nigeria, our roads are bullshit, poor housing, corruption, poverty, income and wealth inequality etc, and you say that Nigeria is ok? I hate the mentality that we have that Nigeria is ok. Nigeria is not ok, and let's stop acting as if it is. We have the potential to be so much more than this, yet we settle for all these nonsense. let's not settle for no electricity and let's stand up to the government and see whether they would not change. If we fought all these things the way we fight homosexuality, do you think that they would still exist? |
paulGrundy:No. |
Yes they should. |
I am an atheist gay Nigerian. I want to ask the Nairaland community what they would do to me if they saw me in real life? Please be honest. |
Aceed:Does that mean that putting a plug and a plug together is morally wrong and the people that do that should be killed? |
Aceed:Don't behave as if you don't masturbate. When you do, what do you do with the sperm you release? You clean it up. You don't carry it up and give it to a woman. When you have sex with women, do you have sex because you want to impregnate every one of them, no. You do it for pleasure. Having anal sex is not for procreation, it is for pleasure and bonding, just like majority of the sex you have is not for children but for pleasure and bonding. |
Cashquest:Tell me one place in the bible were a gay person became straight and then I would think of having the deliverance. Also, if it is insane, shouldn't you be doing research into my insanity instead of just tying me up for 5 years and wasting my time. Though I don't mind a spank or two. |
Cashquest:I am gay. |
jerryunit48:Why is it that we strictly follow that passage, but forget to follow the other passages about a child insulting their parents. Why shouldn't we just kill all adulterers if we are to follow the bible so strictly? |
Till today, I've not heard one valuable argument for why homosexuality is wrong. All the arguments that are listed below are the ones that I have heard before and I am going to try to refute them, but if you have additional arguments for why it is wrong please say something. 1) It is un-African The fact that people say that homosexuality is un-African shows a huge ignorance about our culture. Before colonization, we were accepting of homosexuality and treated them with respect. We didn't pry into people's bedrooms to see whether they were having sex the right way or not and we lived according to the African principle of "live and let live". It was when the British colonized us, that they brought homophobia with them. They forced Christianity down the throats of our fore fathers and enforced the "Buggery Law" which criminalized homosexuality. It is our culture to be accepting of people's differences instead of killing them for it. 2) It is against my religion When people say this, I shake my head. When we call upon our religion, we constantly forget that we are constantly doing the things that the said religion is against. You call upon Leviticus 20:13 to condemn homosexuality, yet you forget these verses: Leviticus 20:9 Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death. Because they have cursed their father or mother, their blood will be on their own head Leviticus 20:10 If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death We don't put the verses into action. Why? Because we know we are guilty of some of them and instead of trying to better ourselves, we then turn around and scapegoat others. Remember, God didn't destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality but because they didn't care for the poor and needy among them. Ezekiel 16:49 Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy. 3) It is un-natural Just do some research and you would find that homosexuality is found in nature. http://www.livescience.com/44464-bonobo-homosexuality-natural.html Before you say "Should we then follow the actions of animals?" I would say that the only reason people bring up this point is to say just that. 4) Homosexuals cannot reproduce Just because they can't reproduce doesn't mean that what they are doing is wrong. Old people can't reproduce, does that mean that they shouldn't get married or have sex? There are people who have diseases that make them infertile, does that mean that they shouldn't be allowed to have sex or get married. There are people who chose not to have kids, does that mean that they shouldn't have sex or get married? This is just a flimsy excuse. By the way, we are so concerned about bringing more children into the world while we have not taken care of the ones that are already here in this world. About half of Nigerians'population is under 18 and we should do something to take care of the existing children instead of worrying about bringing more children into this broken country. 5) People are not born gay Actually people are born gay, but, let's assume that they are not, does that mean that we should kill them? People are not born Christians, they chose to be Christians, does that mean that we should all of a sudden send Christians to jail? That's stupid. Also, given the difficult lives of gays in Nigeria who would knowingly choose to be gay? Would you wake up one morning and be attracted to someone of the same sex? 6) It is a mental disease If you truly believe that homosexuality is a disease, shouldn't you be asking for help for gay people instead of sending them to 14 years in prison where they wouldn't get any help? Shouldn't we be trying to do more research into homosexuality to find out the cause of it or the cure instead of just killing gay people or sending them to jail? Shouldn't you be asking for more hospitals and research on this topic like we did for HIV/AIDS? Yet, instead of doing all those, we kill the people that are suffering with this supposed mental illness. That's like saying that we can't sure HIV/AIDS, therefore instead of doing more research on it, we should just kill all infected people. 7) I don't like it Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it is wrong. I don't like eating meat does that mean that all meat eaters should be sentenced to 14 years in prison? No. That's the same for homosexuality. If you don't understand it, do some research instead of condemning people. Homosexuality hurts no one and is practiced in privacy. It cannot be transferred from one person to another. Please let's have a rational conversation about homosexuality. |
Edehsman:I am alive as a result of being immunized as a child, brought up in a clean and sanitary environment, given medicine for the malaria I got and chicken pox I got. I was given good food, had sleep and exercised. Simple. it kept my heart running and I am alive. |
psucc:Show me how. Don't just tell me to believe without giving evidence. |
I am an atheist that was formerly a Christian. Till today I still can't fathom how educated individuals in Nigeria can still believe in the bible despite all the impossibilities in it. During my transition into atheism, I went through this phase where everyone I met told me that I should just believe without the evidence. They said that it was my disbelief that was driving me away from God and that I should not question him. I should just keep quiet and follow him even though I'm not sure he exists. I'm sure most Christians would ask what is wrong with that but I want to ask you, if a someone of another faith tells you to convert to their faith without showing proof that their God is real, would you do it? You wouldn't. That's how I feel. If there is no scientific evidence showing the existence of God, then I cannot believe in him. Also, one of the reasons that I started doubting Christianity is all the impossible and horrible stories it contains (I'm sure someone would use the 'God of the Gaps' argument here and say that God did it): 1) How could God create this earth in 6 days, but take only one day to create the rest of the universe? That is impossible. According to recent estimates, there are about 100 billion planets in the universe and assuming that they are all the size of the earth, it would take about 600 billion days for God to create them and that's not including the stars!! 2) God is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and yet, he didn't know that creating putting the tree of knowledge in the garden would lead to the destruction of his beautiful creation? Didn't he know that he would later regret his choice (Gen. 6:6)? After all he knew the end from the beginning, he would have known that creating the tree would lead to billions of people to hell, yet he still created it. How is that loving? As a parent, how many of you would create something knowing your child would suffer forever as a result of that thing? I'm sure none of you, yet you would excuse your God from doing the same thing. 3) If God is caring and compassionate and provides for the needs of the faithful if they just ask, why is Nigeria in the state it is in today? After all, we have people praying from morning to night asking for Go'd guidance and help, yet things seem to only get worse. In countries like Sweden, Denmark, Finland, they are made up of mostly atheists, yet they do not experience the amount of violence that we experience in Nigeria. They have good social safety net, low rate of unemployment, very good security, high life expectancy, low rate of corruption and are constantly said to be the happiest countries on earth (Nigeria was recently said to be the worst place to be born in). 4) How did Noah carry all the species of animals on the earth into the ark? Presently, there are about 15 million species of animals on the earth (a conservative estimate and we are losing species everyday). How did Noah put all these animals inside that ark? Also, apart from the two of every kind of animal, they had to carry extra animals for the lions, the tigers and other carnivores to eat. They also had to carry lots of hay and grass for the cows, goats, horses and sheep. How did they fit inside the boat? Why are there still fish alive today. If the flood happened, it would have messed up the salt balance of the waters and that would have killed loads of fish. Also, how come 8 unskilled people were able to build an ark of that size that lasted for about 40 days without bending, while skilled people build the Wyoming and it bent. It was not even as big as the ark. 5) Why did God punish the people in Noah's time? It was not like he had given them any commandments and there was not evidence that he talked to them. 6) Using the timelines of the bible, the earth is 6000 years old. How is that possible when there has been fossils that have been dated to around 100,000 years. 7)Why do you actually believe in God? is it because you genuinely believe that God exists or you are just using him as an insurance policy against the bad times and ultimately hell. There are many more reasons that I doubt the existence of a God, particularly the Abrahamic God, but I can't list all of the here. I am just worried that this deep religiousity of Nigerians would not overcome our common sense and our ability to think about the world around us in a purely scientific way instead of relying on a book that was written 2000 years ago. If we just use God to answer everything in the universe, we would not advance, we would not be able to do research on things that we don't understand like HIV, homosexuality, small pox etc and try to come to reasonable conclusions not rash conclusions based on things that were written by people who thought that blood letting worked. |
What are all these old men doing thirsting over an underage girl? |

Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast and do not let any of the sacrifice from Passover remain until morning. (Exodus 34:25)
