The Minister of Education Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau today at the National Universities Commission presented provisional licences to Edwin Clark University, Delta State and Hezekiah University, Imudi Imo State.

The chairman House Committee on Education Aminu Suleiman Fagge, the ES NUC Prof. Okojie and the honorable minister all spoke on the need for more access to university education, and decried the influx of Nigerian students to neighbouring countries whose standards were questionable.

The minister urged the proprietors to work hard and ensure quality assurance and standards are maintained to avoid sanctions from NUC.

It will be recalled that exactly 2 months ago, licences were granted to 9 additional Private Universities.This brings the total of private universities in the country to 61.

Hezekiah is the first private university in Imo state.
