Messi always perform well with goals. But when tougher teams come, Midfielders or defenders are slack to react. And so Argentina concede goals (example against Croatia, Nigeria , France,) and Barcelona too(example against Liverpool)..
If you look at Barcelona Midfield, only Vidal was playing with intensity. Busquet and co were slack.
Mascherano in the world cup, could not cope as a midfielder!!! And Caballero was a disaster especially against Croatia...

That is my observation...

Since Riquelme era, Argentina has no CM. or DMF with great qualities. 2016 till date is the weakest set of Midfielders/defenders Argentina has ever had...
