temmytanny: the best is to do another one that would expire many years to come, getting new passport in US takes long esp if you are outside newyork.Talking from experience someone told me

Pls I didn't say he should get a new passport in US, cos in d first place d CO will not even issue a visa on dat passport since it didn't meet the basic requirement of validity, so there is no way he can enter US wit dat passport. Rather I said he should ve it cancelled by Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) n a new one issued BEFORE he attends his interview in May.

Kunlexymoore: Hi my people, I need your opinion on these issues as quickly as possible.
1. My wife is the principal applicant. My International Passport will expire on the 23rd of December. My interview is on the 21st of May but I intend travelling first week in November (before the six month lapsed). However, going by the information on the US website Passport(s) valid for six months beyond the intended date of entry into the U.S. for you and each family member applying for a visa. , do you advise I get another passport before my interview because obviously my passport will not be valid six month after I entered the US as stipulated on the website. But the problem is I cannot renew my passport now because renewal is done six months or less to expiry date. So what do I do?
2. My host has moved from the address he gave me earlier when filling the forms sent to KCC. He's now somewhere else but within the same city (Greensboro, North Carolina). Do I need to inform the embassy on the change of address?
3. Do we need affidavit of support from our host?

Thanking you (in advance) for your prompt response.

1. On d issue of passport, pls I doubt if a visa will be stamped on dat soon to expire passport cos like u noted the major condition is dat "Passport(s) should be valid for six months beyond the intended date of entry into the U.S. So it means it must be valid for up to six months beyond 1st wk of Nov, which is ur intended date of entry into d US. You may ve d present passport cancelled by Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). It will be stamped "CANCELLED WITHOUT PREJUDICE" and a new one will be issued.

2. No need to inform the embassy, but if at the interview the CO raises the issue, pls be honest n tell him/her of d new address. However, you must inform the immigration officials at your POE about the new address so as to avoid ur Green Card (GC) being sent to d old address.

3. DV visa applicants from Nigeria do not need AOS, so it depends on ur country.

NOTE: Pls bear in mind dat ur Medical Report is valid for six months from d date of issuance just like d visa. It is mandatory u ve a valid medical report with u at ur POE or else u will be asked to do another one over there in d US, which is very expensive.

Hope this helps, goodluck!

Firstly, as at the date of your interview your passport still has 6-months validity so your visa can be stamped on it. However your medical on the other hand expires October ending (assuming you do it end of May), so you have to leave Nigeria in the beginning of september. As for your passport expiration, when you get to the US you can mail it to the Nigerian Embassy nearest to you for renewal.

Secondly, when you get to the first Customs stand at the airport, where your finger print and signature will be taken, tell them that your host address has changed and give them the new one.

Affidavit of support is usually not required from Nigerians. Congrats and welcome to the American dream.

On d issue of passport, pls I doubt if a visa will be stamped on dat soon to expire passport cos the major condition is dat "Passport(s) should be valid for six months beyond the intended date of entry into the U.S. So it means it must be valid for up to six months beyond 1st wk of Nov, which is his intended date to enter d US. Dainy1: pls house anybody with an ideal. a frnd of mine register with three of his names. eg, agbo joshua isah but on all his credentials including birth cert. he has four names. agbo joshua .I. musa, infact isah has never been written full in all his document. it's always abbrevaited. my qustion is that, if he win, will these afect him during interveiw? it's good he knows now so he wouldnt put his hope there. thanks

If he becomes a DV Selectee, when filling his Form DS-230 Part II, Column 37 is for him to indicate other names used or Aliases since his birth. So that will be an opportunity for him to indicate his other name (Isah). Hope this helps. Goodluck!

joeonye: Hello house,am an applicant and I am currently doing my youth service batch A 2013,the law says as call member you can't leave the country,if I inform the CO that am currently serving and won't finish within 6 months, will it affect me? Is there anyone in my shoes who have been issued visa. My interview is this month. Should I withhold the information from the CO.Tnx house

@joeonye,u should be as truthful as possible. Only volunteer information on questions specifically asked. Leave it to d CO to raise d issue of ur status as a Corp member n answer his/her questions truthfully. Just pray for a good CO who mayb willing to overlook d restriction on corps members nt being allowed to travel outside d country, cos these people don't joke with set down rules n regulations. And when u get d visa dis month, I hope u'll meet up with d 6mnths deadline to travel out cos u'll ve till Oct to make use of ur visa. Keep prayin n all d best.

The DV rule: Applicant and family members cannot be issued a diversity visa or accompany you or join you in Τ̲̅ђε̲̣̣̣̥ United States under DV-2013 program after September 30, 2013

Go for ur interview, and make ur plans to travel before 30th Sept.
Use *Nigeria factor* to approach ur ZI or state coordinator. It all depends on wat U̶̲̥̅̊ can do.

He need not make plans to travel b4 30th Sept, dat deadline is in respect of VISA ISSUANCE. Once u r issued a visa on or before d deadline, u ve max of 6months from the date of issuance to make use of dat visa, cos DV Visa has a lifespan of 6months.
As an NYSC member, I hope u 'll b able to make use of dat visa, hope u 'll pass out before ur 6mnths visa expires. Also bear in mind ur Medical Report which has a 6months lifespan n is essential at ur POE/US Airport. Gudluck!

pjogutum1: @Shewen4God: Gdmorning house, hope u guys had a wonderful wkend? Thanks for d quick contributions.

Please kindly get affidavit for correction of name from the high court and possibly paper publication in one of the National Newspapers. It wouldn’t cost you more than 7k. hope the name on your passport is correct? cheers.

Affidavit is ok, but publication in d national dailies is not needed cos u r nt doin change of name. All d best.

adeniyisavage: i have a question.though i wasn't selected for 2013 dv lottery,i feel my luck will turn in 2014...

i have a family of four(a wife and two kids)

there is a section in the dsp 230 form i wish clear explaining..31a and 31b.

if i wish to immigrate now and have the rest of my family join me later, say like a year or two.

question 1. will they appear with me at interview if chosen?
question 2. if so,will i have to pay visa fees for them with the accompanying medicals and police report?

i'll love an answer to my question.

thanks

1. If u r a selectee wit derivatives/family, they must appear wit u @ d interview, whether or not they r accompanyin u now or @ a later date. Pls note dat d later date must be within 6months, cos d visa dat 'll b issued to u n ur family is valid for just 6months.

2. Yes u must pay for their visa fees on d day of interview, n also obtain medical reports @ least 2wks b4 ur interview date. The police reports should be obtained for persons above 16 yrs. Goodluck!

The Police report can be done under a day n has a lifespan of 3mnths n is essential for ur interview but nt needed @ ur POE. However, Medicals should be done at least 2wks b4 ur interview, cos it has 6mnths lifespan, just like d visa dat 'll b issued n very very essential @ ur POE. House correct me if am wrong abeg. All da best!

tovalli: Morning house,my interview is fast approachin I need to clarify some tins
Do I need to make d photocopy of my intl passport and also my police report and which currency is more advisable to take along to the embassy.....pls I'm awaiting contribution...God will sEe us all thru ijn...amen.

Pls make 2 copies each of all ur documentations, except ur medical report, which is sealed and I'll advice u to go wit the naira equivalent of USD330 plus some additional cash to cover the higher rate of exchange @ d embassy. Though it wuld 've been better to go wit USD330 as long as u r security conscious n u did d exchange @ a reliable Bureau De Change.Goodluck!
