...Demand Arrest of Assailant Before Returning to Duty

Healthcare services at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) were disrupted on Tuesday after nurses withdrew their services in protest over the assault on two Nurses who were on duty at the hospital's Paediatric Ward 1 and Children Emergency Unit by the father of a deceased four-year-old patient.

The industrial action followed a directive issued by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Federal Health Institutions, UUTH Chapter, in a letter dated July 28, 2026, addressed to the Chief Medical Director of the hospital.

According to the association, the incident occurred after the death of a four-year-old female patient, when the child's father reportedly became violent, physically assaulting, slapping and threatening nurses who had attended to the child.

First Media Naija gathered that following the child's death, the father requested to take the body home for burial. However, in line with the hospital's standard procedure, he was required to settle the outstanding hospital bill before the corpse could be released.

Sources said the Nurses on night duty had taken the patient's case folder to the Emergency Unit for bill computation when the man became impatient. Rather than wait for the billing process to be completed, he reportedly attacked the same nurses who had spent the night attending to the child before her death.

It was further gathered that, believing the Nurses were deliberately delaying him, the man hurried to another unit which he thought was the Emergency Unit. There, he overturned a medication trolley, scattered Nurses' tables and patients' case folders, causing panic within the ward. As the nurse in charge attempted to calm him and stop the destruction, the man slapped her multiple times.

Our correspondent gathered that the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) management immediately reported the incident to the Nigeria Police. However, the suspect, identified as Akamba Etteh, a native of Ubon Akwa in Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, who is said to reside on Akpakpan Street, Uyo, has yet to be apprehended.

Consequently, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives convened an emergency congress on Tuesday, where members unanimously resolved to withdraw their services until the suspect is arrested and adequate security is guaranteed for all nurses working at the hospital.

The union said it could no longer guarantee the safety of its members while the suspect remained at large. It noted that the continued freedom of the assailant posed a serious security threat to nurses and other healthcare workers.

Our correspondent further gathered that the congress resolution was endorsed by the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of NANNM, Comrade Nsikan Jacob Udo, and the State Secretary, Comrade Joe Idiege, who were present at the emergency congress. The meeting was also attended by the State Vice Chairman, unit chairmen of the association and other State and Unit officials.

Addressing the congress, Comrade Nsikan Jacob Udo condemned the assault on the Nurses, describing it as an attack on the nursing profession and healthcare workers dedicated to saving lives. He maintained that no Nurse should be subjected to violence in the course of performing professional duties and insisted that the withdrawal of services would remain in force until the suspect is apprehended and credible measures are put in place to safeguard healthcare workers in the state.

The letter directing the withdrawal of services was jointly signed by the UUTH Chapter Chairman, Comrd. Effiong Unoekieoru, and the Secretary, Comrd. Kufre Usen, with copies forwarded to the NANNM Akwa Ibom State Council, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, and the Head of the Nursing Services Department at UUTH.

The industrial action is expected to significantly disrupt healthcare delivery at all units of the health institution, pending the arrest of the suspect and the resolution of the dispute.

Now this is inaccurate...yes after 90 days the loan is classified as lost but does not automatically mean that interest stops accruing on the loan going by your contractual agreement with the loan app.

The CBN regulations stipulates that the interest after 90 days can no longer be classified as income on the books of the loan app because there's a chance they won't collect but doesn't say that interest won't accrue on the loan.

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed he is the first governor in Nigeria’s history to govern a state for eight years without owning a personal house.

Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State and former Minister of Interior, made the assertion while addressing his supporters in a video which started trending online on Thursday.

According to him, he lived in a friend’s house throughout his tenure as governor.

“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” he said.

The former governor added, “I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as a governor in my father’s land. Whoever says that what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own.”

Aregbesola served as governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018 before he was appointed Minister of Interior under the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

During his time in office, he pursued policies aimed at reducing poverty, unemployment and hunger, while promoting education, healthcare, peace and community development.

The fact that our tehnicians and tradesmen were placed into such apprenticeships without first giving them basic education, contributed to the sense of inferiority attached to those professions. Which is why most parents never wanted their offspring to follow that path even till today

You'd be surprised that most successful artisans, technicians and tradesmen still feel that they missed something very big by not going to university, not realizing that the actual missing link is just basic education...and majority of them do everything in their power to ensure their own kids go to university, thus contributing to the paper glut we're all lamenting about

Lauretta Onochie, a Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC and former presidential aide has dared the APC to publish the said letter of commendation extended to President Tinubu.

According to the statements which were shared on her official X handle on Thursday July 23rd, 2026 she pointed out that the presidency recycled an old commendation letter to score cheap political points.

The presidency, it can be recalled, had announced that president Donald Trump extended a commendation letter to President Tinubu on his achievements in the fight against insecurity.

However, while many disputed the content of the letter, Lauretta Onochie, a Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC took to her official X handle to drop a bombshell.

In her statements, she accused the presidency of recycling an old commendation letter, which she believed was extended to President Tinubu between 2024 and 2025 in response to his congratulatory message to President Donald Trump.

She further dared the presidency to publish the said commendation letter, arguing that no letter of commendation from President Donald Trump was received in 2026.

"There no letter of commendation from Trump in 2026. The letter they are referencing was written in response to Tinubu's congratulatory message to Trump in late 2024 or early 2025." she wrote.

When I came back I greeted my Mother-In-Law but she hissed at me like I was her enemy. She started singing some wicked songs about useless husbands in our native dialect.

My Wife is the type of person that would be very hungry but she would say she is okay so that you would not get worried.
I have given my Wife money several times to buy clothes and ladycare for herself but she would end up buying things for our children instead.

I asked my Mother-In-Law how much she bought the new set of pants and she said each 1 cost ₦5000 and she bought 5 pieces. Total of ₦25,000.

I immediately counted the money from my savings and gave it to her. Even though I did not believe that was the price she got them for.

Life is hard. And I am going through a situation that I don’t know if I can share with anyone in my physical world yet. But I need to share till the heaviness is gone.

Who am I? Someone who wished she could undo many things, especially the decision to get married.

I have googled divorce reasons more than 10 times today alone. I don’t even know if I am ok.
No, I am not been physically or emotionally abused. I am not been cheated on. At least not that I know. I am just disconnected, tired and no one would really understand why I want to walk away from a 2 year marriage. Or maybe someone here will.


Let’s just say that there is no reason to rush marriage. But once you hit age 30, somehow the bells keep ringing everywhere around you and the pressure heightens. I wanted it. I wanted to marry for love, companionship and I wanted to choose. But, time was flying and someone came that felt right at the time and I genuinely was a good person. The person was overly in love with me. Or maybe it was the idea of me. A successful independent woman living life on her own terms. Somehow we started dating and in 9 months, we were married. And we were happy at the time. Or I was. Until we started living together.


We had counseling. So it wasn’t a matter of ignorance. But the foolish butterflies didn’t make me see road.


I guess from the very beginning I just settled. Settled for a quiet hush hush wedding. For someone who had always wanted a glam wedding, I didn’t have one. The other person just couldn’t be bothered and concluded that paying bride price was the only thing that signified marriage. We were not in the Nigeria so that happened in our absence. He wasn’t buoyant but I was understanding. I gathered money together. We had only 3 other people at the civil wedding. The plan was that we were going to go back home to throw the big party later. Never did and I’ve heard many times that it won’t be happening.

I thought marriage will complete me. No. It just drained me so much.

The man is so set in his ways and he lacks empathy. If he checks your phone but you can't check his, he knows about all your finances but you know nothing about his, sex is all about him, to note a few incongruities... having to cope with that kind of relationship would depress anybody

The fertility issue is maybe the universe trying to tell you something because even if you had kids with this kind of person you might eventually end up raising them alone
