Nafdac, son etc.
Nigeria is just a country where anything goes. A crime scene. Life expectancy I'm surprised isn't 30 years.
And we have a president who is only interested in tax collection! A President who only occupies himself with robbing the national Treasury to fund the decadent lifestyle himself and his Lebanese business partners have built over several decades of economic sabotage |

Edplug: Below is a list of how much 1kg fresh whole chicken cost in other countries vs the cost in Nigeria.
Source
Insight: Despite having the lowest minimum wage among these nations, Nigeria has the highest cost of chicken—more than double the price in Thailand and significantly higher than in the USA.
Do you still think it's cheaper to live in Nigeria? Nigeria's quality of life and development indices are the worst on planet earth, outside of active war zones...our 'leaders' are literally demons incarnated in the physical |

We really need to understand why she’s speaking up just now. If she knew about this from the start, complaining today feels like she’s just looking for validation to cheat on Nairaland. A man doesn't suddenly pick up a gambling habit in his 40s; he’s likely been at it for years, unless "village people" are actually involved.
I’m not one to give advice without getting to the root of the issue. It’s like trimming branches instead of pulling the stump—just a waste of time. Sorry didn't mean to offend I initially thought you were one of those pesky misogynists He could easily hide a gambling addiction from a naive woman who doesn't know what to look for, alcoholism on the other hand couldnt have been hidden, she must've been aware of his drinking all along....I have to admit you're right on that score... |

Streetinvestor2: Why do u keep misrepresenting things. Who told u thr was no tax law last yr.That u have new tax law does not mean government didn't get tax last Yr.The major tax revenue has always been from coperate businesses and civil servants. It is still same now. They have always paid 30%.And the minister never said oil revenue. He said 2025 government revenue target. This government has lived only on borrowing both internal and external. I hope you know all those short term governance securities are borrowing.,TB,Short and long time bonds, sukuk etc. This government has borrowed the country to fouth generation. Tell us what is this non oil revenues u have been talking. And how much it has brought to the country so far.Mention each of this products or services and the amount it has generated That guy is just trying to join the 30,000-naira-club☹️ The game is the game, guyman got to wack |

Brendaniel: No...
Tinubu failed woefully in that aspect far below, as at December had only generated 10 trillion while the target was 40 trillion with nothing to show for it even after subsidy removal his predecessors all paid, he only borrowed more and indebted the country more...
Let me just give you a hint, for Tinubu to still be running 2024 and 2025 budgets into 2026, it tells you there is a whole lot wrong with the financial management of Nigeria presently, the country is actually running slower than it should.
if you've been to the university, you will know what I am talking about, when a student is in 400 level and still has many carry over courses from year one he hasn't finished, he might likely have an extra year or years...
You guys hate facing reality, that's just what I've noticed about you people, you people did this for Buhari for 8 years while people like us where shouting as we are doing now only for to finish and you people then admitted that Buhari was destroying the country...
Now you people are doing the same thing for Tinubu, how shameless and wicked can you people be... Totally shameful set of homo sapiens, and very wicked |

nairalanda1: The problem is, the deficit would be filled by borrowing. That's not less oil dependency, that's filling in a hole left behind by very low oil prices.
At best, government got to ramp up taxation in short term, long term, diversificaiton. It's not a one day thing, and also, we got to fight corruption urgently. I guessed as much too, debt is deliberately being misrepresented as 'non-oil revenue' But I must warn here that, knowing Tinubu from his past utterances and even from his approach to government spending over the past 3 years in Abuja, he just might go ahead and print the money needed to fill that hole |

Brendaniel: What you couldn't still prove yesterday, no single evidence to your claim, you people hate facing reality, that's why Nigeria is the way it is today, people who reason like you are currently in power now, who have supporters like you... They just keep yapping 'oil revenue is 20% or 30% of total' without any evidence, without any bases... You know when people intend to be deceitful they always act as if they know so much more than other people... |

Kemetian: Nigeria does not earn enough to NOT borrow.
Hardly any country does. Except a handful of tiny gulf states like UAE and Kuwait.
Even the USA owes over $38 TRILLION. Dem done come Borrowing is normal when you borrow to invest in projects that generate revenue to repay the loan, not borrowing for white elephant project or simply borrowing to steal |

DeLaRue: 'Forex income' as you put is not some magically powerful revenue that is superior to other forms of revenue, afterall the foreign revenue Nigeria earns from oil is still mostly converted into Naira by the CBN before it is shared between the federal govt and the States. Exactly the same way revenue from FIRS, Customs and other domestic source are shared in the same manner.
So foreign revenue is not so super special that a like for like comparison with revenue originating from Nigeria should never be made as you seem to suggest.
If the poster is correct that revenue from crude oil is falling while domestic revenue is rising, it is entirely plausible and the notion shouldn't be dismissed. What exactly is being produced for export that tops out income from crude sales? Dangote is the only significant addition to Nigeria's revenue profile in 2025 and he is still classed within the oil & gas sector, you can't call his inflows 'non-oil' FIRS (tax), Customs (another name for tax) those figures are entirely suspect given they are coming from govt officials who lied that they 'met their 2025 revenue projection by August' until the Finance dude mistakenly exposed the huge lie the other time. And let's not even go into the detail/fact that most of Nigeria's tax revenues are off of consumption as opposed to production, especially import taxes like the much vaunted customs duties/revenues |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Is Now Free From Oil Dependence by Jamie248: 2:07am On Jan 06 |
lawani: Nigeria is free from oil dependence
I read earlier from a lady in government that oil revenue is now less than half of government revenue in Nigeria and I wrote it like that during a debate with someone online only for someone to oppose me then for me to find out via AI that as at first quarter 2025 that oil revenue was less than 25 percent of total federal government revenue in Nigeria. Nigeria is officially no longer majorly dependent on Niger delta oil but on incomes from avenues like VAT, CIT, customs and etc. This is a good news that should be celebrated by all Nigerians. It explains why most states now have big budgets The country is a country of over 200 million and it can be like western Europe if it is organized like western Europe. There is nothing they do in Europe than everybody pay tax to make life easier for everybody. It is like what President Bola Tinubu did in Lagos he has successfully done it at Abuja. The feat was achieved without any special law. I project that with the new law, oil and gas revenue will become less than ten percent of federal government revenue by December 2026 and maybe less than one percent in two years I guess you have put out this shameful post because you want/hope to be given propaganda job.... Because this is like declaring to Nigerians that Black is White when everyone including you can clearly see that it is still Black If you'd deign to indulge me though, what exactly are the 'non-oil' exports that have displaced crude sales from its prime position per forex income? |
