EducationRe: Market Women Protest ASUU Strike At National Assembly by jamolmed: 3:04pm On Oct 15, 2013
chicbenita: It seems its not just the students that are affected by the ASUU strike as protesting traders, under the aegis of National Market Women Association, Monday, stormed the National Assembly, demanding that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, call off its more than three months old strike.
The protesters, who had been at the Ministry of Education and Office of the Head of Service, arrived the Assembly complex at 11.30a.m.

The President-General of the group, Mrs Felicia Sani, who led the more than 200 protesting women, said: “We are tired of seeing our children at home. We want our children back in school. Enough of this cheap blackmail.

“We all know what they do with our year-one daughters in the university. We equally know that they sell handouts and handbooks.

“Is this not worse than corruption of the highest order?”

The President-General of the group, Mrs Felicia Sani when asked why she did not criticize the Federal Government for failing to reach an agreement with ASUU said: “Which agreement? How do you expect lecturers in state universities to earn same salaries as Federal ones? That is impossible.

“We are not educated, but you do not expect a hotel in my village to cost same price as a hotel in Abuja.

“They are located in different places. So how can a state university lecturer earn same salary with his federal counterpart?

“We are begging them for the last time. If we come out again we may have to chase them out of this country and replace them with so many jobless Nigerians.”

BusinessRe: GTBank Customer Humiliation by jamolmed: 1:18pm On Oct 15, 2013
Benard94: I was at the GT Bank today (OAU, ILE-IFE branch) to deposit a sum of money. I went with a private bike to the bank. It has been continually emphasized that public bikes are not allowed at the bank’s car park (although no symbolic indication there). On this day, I was about parking this bike of mine on the slab as I use to do. Apart, I met another bike on this same slab and I have once being told by a security man that private bikes are allowed on the slab. One of the bank security men approached with harsh and commanding tone, “get out! Don’t park there! Leave there now!” Being in a hurry to deposit the money as my friend is waiting to cash it in Lagos; I didn’t utter a word, parked and entered the bank for the transaction. On coming out of the bank, I discovered this particular GT bank security man has contacted the school security (OAU) to take away the bike on the ground of arguing with him.
After discovering this, I went back to the bank to report the case to the branch manager. He asked me to wait and kept calling the security man to come in for about two times. When I discovered this man didn’t regard the manager, I told the manager I don’t have all day. He replied “don’t you see I have called him to come? If you can’t wait, go and meet him yourself or do what you like”. I was highly bewildered; the manager has no grip over his security man. This bike was confiscated and I have to trek some km back to my house today. This is a bank with which I have accounts in naira and hard currencies. What should I do? PLS ADVICE
Change Bank.

Symphony007: So you all know that i'm not a bitter, constant persimist or jonathan hated. I am currently watching the commissioning of the geregu power station in kogi by pres. Jonathan. It is quite an impressive facility and will no doubt give a boost to our power situation. When good things happen in our country, we should be glad but constructive critisim should not be looked upon as being anti-jonathan.

You can watch it live on NTA or AIT.
NA TODAY
Live in lokoja. Phase I was commissioned without any difference in power supply. We dey wait
PoliticsRe: Nigeria's Middle-Class Increases By 28 percent!! by jamolmed: 7:44am On Sep 27, 2013
iterator25: VENTURES AFRICA – Nigeria, Africa’s second largest economy with a gross domestic product (GDP) of $263 billion, is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. According to the World Bank and Euromonitor International, the country’s middle class has risen by 28 percent while its GDP based on purchasing power has increased by 21.67 percent in the last four years. The rise in consumer spending, coupled with the convenience of online transactions, has boosted the growth of Internet-based businesses in the country.

Industry Players

Nigeria’s Internet business industry is estimated to be worth $250 million. General merchandise online retailer Jumia, co-founded in June 2012 by a Ghanaian Harvard Business School graduate, Raphael Afaedor, together with Berlinbased Internet start-up incubator, Rocket Internet, is currently the largest ecommerce company in Nigeria. With cash-for-equity funds from investment giants such as JP Morgan, Summit Partners and Millicom, the company has raised over $50 million in the last 12 months. It ran multi-million dollar marketing campaigns that boosted its online store to the fourth most visited local site in Nigeria and processed over a million transactions within a year. In June, the company revealed its 10,000-square-foot ecommerce campus and a 90,000-square-foot warehouse, located in Lagos. Jumia’s local competitor and Nigeria’s second-largest ecommerce operator, Konga Shopping Company, founded by former Google Africa lead Sim Shagaya, also secured funds from Kinnevik – a Swedish investment group – and Naspers MIH Internet Africa – the Internet investment arm of South African media giant, Naspers – to grow operations, though the value of the investments is still undisclosed.

citizenisb: Dana Air flight 356 from Abuja to Lagos which landed miraculously at 7:30pm at MM2 airport Lagos after its right engine was lost mid air 30 minutes to Lagos. Luckily for the passengers the solo engine was able to manage a safe landing unlike the IJU Dana Plane which lost both engines and crashed.

It's a pity these Indians continue to play with the lives of innocent Nigerians but nemesis will catch up with them one day!!!

PoliticsRe: APC: Tambuwal For President? by jamolmed: 8:40pm On Feb 17, 2013
This is exactly why we always end up with the wrong President. Why pressurize someone who has achieved nothing in his current position. When would Nigerians learn. Its unfortunate that we the masses have no say in selecting who these presidential candidates are. We are always left with choosing between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
