LoveToRead:
'I really admire your steadfastness.' Becky let the words come out of her freely. 'You really stood your ground. Mind you, don't think I'm a bad girl. Yesterday, that strong feeling just came like that, and I'm sorry about it. I'm glad we've made that a past issue and we're forging on.'

'Thanks for all the complimentary part.'

He was modest and cautious. 'As for the steadfastness, the Lord is my strength. I can only do what He enables me to do. Without God, I'm nothing.'

She nodded understandingly. 'I want to ask you a question that is very personal, I hope you don't mind.'

'What question?'

She looked at him and smiled.

'What question?' He was all curious.

'In what area is Janet better than me?'

'Oh come on, what kind of question is that?'

'Just answer. As your good friend, I have the right to ask.'

'Of course. I will answer you. I didn't desire relationship with Janet because she's better than you or any other lady.'

She raised her eyebrow. 'So, why did you pick her over me? Is she better looking? Is it because of her background?'

'No, no, no, Becky. You've said something like this before. It has nothing to do with any of those things you said. Let me tell you, I could have told you I wanted you to be my life partner long ago, but I had to wait for God's directives. He was the one that made the choice for me. That, my dear is the truth and nothing but the truth.'

Becky was pensive. She looked at him without saying anything.

'When I first saw Janet as the one, I was reluctant. I was even scared of approaching her and it took some time before I could summon the courage. She too did not say yes, outright. It was only few days ago that she said yes.'

'What about her father's angle? I understand he's threatening to lay you off if you don't stop your affairs with his daughter. How will you handle that?'

Raphael nodded. He had expected her to ask question on that aspect. 'I'm not bothered by any obstacle. I've left everything in the hands of God. I'm not desperate about marrying Janet. If God really says so, then so shall it be. I'm not afraid of being laid off because of her.'

'Hmn, the things love does.' She smiled.

'Sorry, we've been so engrossed in talking I didn't remember to ask you what I can offer you.'

She smiled and waved it off. 'I'm enjoying the conversation with you.'

'And you.' He looked at her critically. 'Tell me about your love life. There must be a serious guy in your life, right?'

'I wouldn't know if the word serious guy is appropriate, but there's a guy.'

'The important thing is to commit everything into the hands of God.' He became prescriptive. 'God is the One that can lead one aright.'

Becky did not really believe in Raphael's postulations about God, but did not say so.

'Maybe you should try Janet's number again' There was expectation in his mien.

Again, she nodded in agreement and tried the number. This time around, she picked it at the third ring.

'Hello, Miss Janet. Good afternoon ma'am. This is Becky on the line.'

Janet listened in rapt attention as Becky confessed all her misdeeds and scheming. She exonerated Raphael and blamed her misplaced love and blind jealousy for all her actions. She pleaded for forgiveness.

'Yes. Thank you for the advice.' Becky smiled to herself. 'Such a thing will not happen again, I promise.'

'Okay. Bye bye.'

'Bye, ma'am. Thanks for your understanding.'

'Thank you for clearing me. The Lord be praised. He has indeed taken control.' Raphael was grateful to God for the turn of events. He turned to Becky. 'Thank you, Becky for your change of heart.'

Becky waived it off. 'We're real friends now, remember?'

She came to him and he embraced her briefly.

He sat down again. 'Now that you've told Janet, d'you know she may come here?'

She thought over that for a couple of seconds and nodded. 'That's true. I guess I've stayed enough for today. Let me be going.'

'Becky, I appreciate what you just did. It takes a lot of courage to do that. Thank you.'

She was bemused. 'You're thanking me after all I've done to you? You're so different. Some guys I know will still be mad at me by now.'

'It's okay. Let's forget that ugly episode.'

'Alright, let me be on my way.' She stood up and moved towards the door.

'Just a minute.' He quickly went to the bathroom to bring the nylon containing her thing.

'It's yours.' He grimaced and, handed it to her.

'Oh.' She returned the grimace, collected the nylon and put it in her hand bag. 'I thought you've thrown it away. Sorry for the embarrassment.'

'It's okay. Take care of yourself.' He shrugged it off. 'It's one of those things.'

'Bye bye.' She opened the door and stepped out.

He accompanied her to the gate and waved bye to her. Wow, what an episode! So many things had happened in the last twenty four hours or so. But in all, the glory be to God.

What next? Must he call Janet? He could, but shouldn't she be the one to call him? She was the one who called it quits with him. She was the one who would not listen to his explanations. Well, thank God, all ended well.

He sat down and watched the news on television. He was still watching it when Janet knocked at his door.

WuraSerano:
There was another slight pause. 'You're very beautiful, Simi.'

Oh, my God, I caught a glimpse of lasciviousness in his eyes. Even madam's husband would eye me in a salacious way.

'Er, thank you, sir,' I mumbled.

'See, if you don't mind and if you know what I mean, I can take good care of you.'

That was it. That was where he was going all along. I realized that his offer of making me Assistant Medical Director was to 'wet the ground.'

'I don't understand what you mean, sir,' I said.

He snickered. 'Of course, you do. If you comfort my side, I will comfort you on every side. Maria has traveled to Ibadan and may not be back until Monday.

If you keep me company instead of making me to have lonely nights, then, I will also treat you very right. I'm ready to treat you like a princess if you allow me to do so.'

What he said was not exactly shocking, but the fact that it was coming from him made it outlandish.

I shook my head. 'But, I'm like a daughter to you, sir,' I said. 'I see you as daddy.'

He chuckled. 'Oh, dear Simi. Forget all those talks. Let me take care of you.'

I shook my head again. Men could be so avaricious! How could this man who was my father's age mate be saying things like this? Where was his decency and dignity?

'I'm sorry, I can't do any such thing,' I said. 'Madam must not hear and ....'

'Who will tell her? How will she hear?'

I shook my head again. Yes, I was now a Lagos babe. But I would be a babe with dignity and with difference.

He stood up, dipped his right hand in his pocket and brought out some currencies. He removed one hundred Euros and dropped it on my lap.

'I know you'll change your mind. Have that. The house is free, so I'll be expecting you upstairs. You'll have much more than this later.'

With that, he smiled and walked out of the room. I was too stunned to say anything. Oh, Lord, oh Lord. Some men just didn't have shame.

The day God was giving shame to human beings, some men were not available. In fact, on that day, Dr. Shitta was completely nowhere to be found!

I looked at the money he dropped on my lap. It reminded me of the guy that lodged in one of the suites of Comely Hotel the other time.

So, with this money, Dr. Shitta hoped to make me betray his wife. With this, he expected me to run up to his room and throw off my clothes.

He was wrong. I would 'chop' his money and I would not 'show face.' If he liked, let him bring a thousand Euros and even sterling pounds, I would not accede to his demand. I never knew he was such a 'yeye' man until now.

That night, I made sure I secured my door very well before I slept. I wouldn’t want a randy, old man on the prowl to access my cozy abode. It was Tayo's call that woke me the following morning.

'Hello, darling. Did you have a night sleep?' he asked.

'Yes, I did,' I answered. 'What about you?'

'It was a good night,' he replied. 'But I knew it would have been better if you were by my side.'

'Ah, thank God for everything,' I said, for lack of any other thing to say.

'It's like you don't really believe I love you,' he said.
'Did I say anything like that?'

'No, you did not. But all your actions show that you don't believe. I have ways of proving it. At this stage, there's a particular way I can prove it.'

'Really? I hope it's a good way.'

'Of course, it is.' He suddenly laughed across the line. 'Anyway, today is Sunday. I suppose you'll be going to the church, right?'

'Yes, I will. You'll be going to the church too, won't you?'

'Sure,' he said.

We chatted a bit more. A couple of hours later, I took my bath and prepared for church service. Luckily a very popular Pentecostal church had started having services in the hotel banquet hall. I had decided to join them.

I dressed in simple blouse and black skirt. The service was interesting and I had a full-filling time. I went home straight when it was all over. I thought the randy Doctor Shitta would come again to disturb me with his amorous advances, but he did not.

Maybe he had finally got shame.

I changed to jeans trousers and t-shirt and moved to the hotel for afternoon duty. Tayo called to ask how the church service was.

'Fine,' I replied. 'It was a wonderful experience. How about you? Did you make it to the church?'

'No, I wasn't able to,' he replied. 'I hope you prayed for me.'

I chuckled. 'Sorry, I didn't. You didn't tell me you need prayers.'

'We all do,' he said. 'Specifically, I need prayers that God should touch the heart of the lady I want to marry so that she will say yes, and the wedding can be in earnest.'

I felt like laughing. 'I see.'

'Is that all you will say?'

I paused briefly. 'For now, yes.'

'Well, thanks for being candid.'

'Thanks for calling,' I told him. The conversation went on for another minute before he terminated it.

SolaRaphael:
Fatty patted Agatha. 'Good luck,' she said, smiling. Anfani looked at her and winked. They soon left her with Cyril in the office. She sat on one of the visitors' seats while he brought his phone out and made a call.
'Yes, sir, the lady is in my office now.'

There was a slight pause. 'Okay, sir. That will be no problem, sir.'

He disengaged the line and turned to smile at her.

'He says he's on his way and will soon be here. Meanwhile, he said I should give you any drink of your choice.'

She remained confused. Now, what kind of thing was this? Her plan was to come and dance, make her money and go. Which one was this one that looked like 'being detained'?

Cyril could sense her nervousness. 'Relax,' he said, smiling. 'I know Chief Ovie very well. He can only do this to somebody he really likes.'

Agatha nearly chuckled. She did not even know the man and could not imagine how he looked. Yet, she was told the man liked her!

'What drinks do I get you?' Cyril intruded into her thoughts.

'Malt will be okay.'

He nodded. 'Just a minute.'

He left the office. She sighed and tried to relax. So, the man was interested in her, why did he pick on her? She believed Anfani was more beautiful than her, why not pick Anfani?

Fatty too was beautiful, although she was chubby. The other two girls were not bad-looking. Out of the five pretty young ladies, why did he pick on her?

Cyril was soon back with a tray containing two cold bottles of malt and a covered plates containing barbecue. He did not even ask one of the service girls to serve Agatha. Cyril was the one doing it himself. Gosh!
'I bought some suya (roasted meats) for you to savor the taste,' he said, grinning.

This is serious, she thought. A glass cup and an opener were also in the tray. He opened it for her.

'There you're,' he said.

'Thank you very much, sir. I mean thank you, Cyril.'

'You're welcome. Just relax and don't worry about a thing. See, I'll soon be back. I want to attend to work matters.'

She nodded. 'Okay.'

About five minutes later, a man that should be about fifty years came to the office. He was looking important in his well starched kaftan.

His polished shoes, gold wrist-watch and his carriage all portrayed a successful and confident person. He smiled at her.

'Good evening, sir,' Agatha greeted.

'Good evening, my lovely queen.' He extended his hand for a hand shake. 'I'm Chief Doctor Nelson Ovie.'

So, this was the man who desired to see her. 'Good evening, sir,' she greeted again.

'Yeah. I'm sorry to keep you waiting. Hope you're not angry.'

She shook her head. 'No, I'm not. I was only wondering why I you wanted to see me, sir.'

He smiled benignly and sat on another visitor's chair. 'I'll come to that. Very soon, I'll come to that. I want to discuss some matters with you.'

Agatha tried to look calm but she was all tensed up. What did this important-looking man want to discuss with her?

'Cyril told me you're an undergraduate student of Lagoon-View University. Is that right?'

She nodded. 'Yes, sir.'

'Good. Now, let me tell you why I wanted to see you. I wanted to see you because I like you.'

Agatha froze on her seat. It was not as if she had not thought that the man would say this, but the way he said it in that no-hold-barred way made her react the way she did.

'Sir?' she asked.

Ovie smiled.

He smiled again. 'I said I like you. I really mean that. The first thing I want you to do for me is to stop dancing in this club or any other club. I know you're making some money from it, but I want you to stop. I'm going to compensate you for that. Can you do that for me?'

FrankAkowe:
‘Well, I guess it’s time to tell you the truth, now.’

‘Truth?’ I was all curious. ‘What truth, Ruth?’

She smiled briefly. ‘Have you heard about Otunba Ola Daniel?’

What a question! Who had not heard about Otunba Ola Daniel? He was an oil magnate and a well-known philanthropist. But why was Ruth asking?

‘Yes, I know about him. Why are you asking?’

She nodded and looked down on the floor. Then, in all modesty, she said: ‘I’m his daughter.’

‘What!’ There was no way I could contain my astonishment. Ruth? Daughter of Otunba Ola Daniel? I knew her name to be Ruth Bisola Daniel, but I never had inkling that she was in any way related to Otunba Daniel. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

‘I came to work for Apezlinks because dad wanted me to have experience outside his companies. He also wanted me not to disclose my real identity.’

I realized that my mouth was open in wonderment. I had to force it close.

‘Dad knows the MD of Apezlinks, so he arranged with him that I should work there for six months. While I was there, I met you. Here, we are.’

I sighed. This sounded like a fairy tale. At best, it sounded like a tale from the movie industry. How was she able to mingle with me and other members of staff when she was at the advertising company without once betraying her real background?

How was she able to conceal all these from me until now?

‘This is serious,’ I said. ‘What about your current job? How come the six months you wanted to spend with the advert agency coincided with your getting a new job?’

Once again, she smiled. ‘There was no coincidence. It was all planned. Saturn Oil and Gas Company, the company I’m currently working for, is owned by my father.’

I gaped at her. Now, I knew better. ‘But why didn’t you tell me all these this while? Why playing secrecy with everything? And knowing my humble background, why did you accept my offer of companionship?’

She came to sit on the seat next to mine and held my right hand. ‘I played secretly because I wanted to be very certain you really have affection for me. I had to be careful.

‘Alright, now, what do you want to be entertained with?’

‘Anything.’

She smiled. ‘Are you sure you want anything?’

I shrugged. ‘Sure.’

‘Okay. Give me a minute.’ She smiled at me, stood up and moved out of sight.

I looked about me unbelievably again. Wonderful.
She must be good in one thing and that was keeping a secret. With all the chat we had had in the office and in my home, she did not even make a slip in revealing her identity. She definitely knew how to keep a secret.

Nice story, but a rushed ending. Also, like some have already observed, he obviously sowed without reaping, sinned without receiving ANY wages; for realhuh I can understand the pull to quickly round off stories especially at the completion stages, but that sometimes robs it of its realism. Lovetoread did same in his Sugarmum.

An additional update should have been perfect where his post decisional challenges and anxieties would have been highlighted and gradually minimized. Everything was unrealistically smooth.
Sometimes, life can be unrealistically smooth or otherwise.

I wanted to say more, but her right hand moved from the chest to inside the boxer I was wearing and she tenderly held my joystick. Deftly, her hand moved over it as she caressed the organ. In response, the part wasted no time in becoming fully erect.

I removed her top and unhooked her bra. Her jaunty boobs sprang to life as I sucked her nipples. I could see eagerness and anticipation in her mood. She quickly removed her clothing, just as I did the same to mine.

In every sense, she appeared like someone that was sex-starved and needed a life-line. Right there in the sitting-room, we did things to satisfy each other's lusts.

We were so carried away we neither moved to the bedroom nor lock the door. And we were so engrossed in fulfilling our quest that we didn't know when the door was opened and an intruder came in.

'What ...!' I heard faintly. Then something thudded on the tiled floor. I glanced at the sight and saw a lady lying on the floor.

'What?!' It was my turn to make that exclamation. I quickly stopped the coital act, wore my boxer and rushed to see the lady on the floor.

It was Yetunde. The sight she had seen must be too much for her and she had fainted.

'Oh Lord,' I muttered, panic gripping me. 'Yetunde! Yetunde!'

But she was past responding to me. Bisola too quickly wore her clothes.

'She fainted?' she asked unnecessarily.

My mind was in frenzy. I had to decide what to do, and fast too. Quickly, I wore my t-shirt and wore a trousers on the boxer.

'I will have to take her to the hospital,' I muttered.

I picked her up from the ground while Bisola picked the small bag she, Yetunde, had brought. I placed her in the back seat of my car, went inside to take some money and my ATM card and locked up my flat.

'Do I follow you?' Bisola asked.

'No,' I replied grimly. There was a small private hospital not far from my residence. I took her there and called their attention to emergency.

They brought a stretcher to take her inside. As they were putting her on a bed, she opened her eyes dreamily. Then, I noticed that there was a blood stain on her skirt.

'Please, you have to excuse us,' the elderly doctor said. 'Kindly wait at the reception while we examine and observe her.'

I went to wait at the large reception room, cursing my luck and cursing the moment I conceded to Bisola's desire.

But why did Yetunde come around? Didn't she say she would not be coming as she was ill? Why did she come in at the very time Bisola and I were engrossed in pleasures of the flesh?

Above all, why did she not tell me that she would be calling?

Some minutes later, the doctor called me to his office.
'You will have to help us call one of her relatives, as she said she didn't want to see you.'

My heart sank. 'But, how's she? Is she okay?'

The doctor nodded. 'She's going to be okay, but the shock and the fall she experienced have made her to have a miscarriage.'

'What?' I stood up, shocked at the bad news.

'But, she's going to be okay,' the doctor said.

The pleasures I was having with Bisola had suddenly brought about sorrows. I was distraught by what had happened, to say the least.

I had to call my mother to say what had happened. But I did not reveal the sordid details. I only said Yetunde came in, met a lady and me in an uncompromising position, fell down and fainted.

Within few minute the news had spread. The first person to get to the hospital was Nike, Yetunde's younger sister. Later, Yetunde was discharged.

I offered to take her home, but she refused. Even my offer of paying for her cab was rebuffed. It was one of the saddest days of my life, but I guessed I took things for granted.

On Saturday morning, dad summoned me to our Ikeja home.

In the sitting-room, a look at my mum's eyes showed that she had been crying. I felt so bad.

Frank was not having the best of time. Since Aaliyah left on yesterday morning, he had not been his normal self. Now in his office, he had to strife not to allow his feelings to affect his work. When Nancy came to greet him just before her first flight of the day, she was quick to notice that he looked disconcerted.

'Is it the pain?' she asked. 'I hope you're taking good care of yourself.'

'It's not the pain from the wound,' he replied. 'It's another kind of pain.'

Nancy looked at him curiously. 'What kind of pain is that?'

He sighed. 'My fiancée has just dumped me.'

Nancy stared at him. 'Why? What happened?'

He grinned ruefully. 'It was actually my fault. She caught me with a lady.'

'What! Why did you do that?'

He sighed again. 'As I said, it's my fault. I'm still pleading with her, and I'm hoping she will come back.'

Nancy nodded. Then an idea came to her mind. 'What if she doesn’t come back?' she asked.

Frank had not thought of that possibility. 'I think she'll come back,' he muttered.

Nancy smiled at him cheekily. Frank got the message. No, no, after he had helped Mick to become intimate with Nancy, he was not going to seek
Nancy for himself. Never.

Towards closing time, Nike called him.

'How're you?' she asked. 'Sorry that I've not called you all this while. I've been down with sickness.'

To say that he was very angry at her would be an understatement. He however bottled his anger. 'I'm getting better,' he said.

'I'm glad to hear that. Frank, I want to tell you I'm sincerely sorry for all that have happened. Please forgive me for all that has happened.'

His mind softened a bit. 'Well, to err is human, to forgive divine. In spite of what that infamous action has caused, I'm moving on.'

'There's something I believe,' she went on. 'That is the fact that if Aaliyah genuinely loves you, she will come back. On my part, I won't disturb
you again.'

After you've caused so much trouble, his mind screamed at him. 'Alright,' he said. 'You can help by telling her what happened between us will
never happen again and that I love her.'

There was a slight pause. 'Alright, I'll see what I can do.'

'Thank you in advance,' he said.

Her hijab was back, and so were the actions her father wanted to see her perform. Aaliyah found herself trying to please her father. It was like
she was trying to make up for the time she had rebelled against him. She also found herself becoming less resistant to the overtures of Ade.

That Friday, he came to meet her in the office, smiling.

'I will like to take you out for lunch tomorrow, Saturday,' he said. 'Can I come and pick you in your home, say by one o'clock?'

To his surprise, she did not spurn the invitation. 'That will be alright,' she said.

'Good.' He was obviously delighted. 'I'll be in your house to pick you.'

'Okay.'

Aaliyah was surprised that Saturday when she was informed about twelve noon that he had come to the house as agreed to take her out.

FrankAkowe:
The following week, the days moved slowly.

Saturday finally came. It was the day I had promised to pay a visit to Ruth in her parents’ house. She had earlier texted the address to me. I knew Isaac John Street at Ikeja G.R.A, and getting to number 280B should not be a problem.

I had told her I would be there by ten a.m. since the traffic was light and since I had left home earlier, by twenty minutes to ten, I was at the gate of the house that occupied the number.

A side gate to the main gate opened and a security guard viewed me. Ruth must have made a mistake in giving me the number, I felt. All the same, I would ask the guard.

‘Good morning,’ I greeted the guy.

‘Good morning. Can I help you?’

I could see that he was the polite type. I smiled and tried to relax. ‘Sorry, but I’m looking for a lady by the name Ruth. She gave me this address and I wondered if this place is where she lives.’

‘Who are you, sir?’ He gave a courteous smile.
‘I’m Francis. Frank, in short.’

He smiled and nodded. ‘She already told me you’ll be coming. Please, come in.’

So, I was in the right place! I entered the side and was astounded by the site I saw. If the outside of the building was grand, then the interior was even grander.

There was a short driveway that led to a large canopy-covered garage. I could see not less than six luxury cars parked there. Was Ruth living with a rich uncle? I thought she said she was staying with her parents.

The security bolted the mini gate. ‘Please, follow me.’

I followed him to the main entrance door of the building. I could see that it was a well secured door.

The guy pressed the bell and waited. Few seconds after, the door was opened from inside and a young lady gave a smile to welcome me.

‘He came to see Sister Ruth,’ the security guy said.

The lady nodded and ushered me inside the building.

There was a short corridor. We walked a few meters and got to what looked like a waiting lobby. All along, everywhere smelt of opulence.

‘You can sit down and wait for her here,’ the lady said. ‘She’ll soon be joining you.’

I nodded. ‘Thank you.’

I sat on one of the exotic and comfortable seats. The lady left me and disappeared through the corridor. I looked about the room. I could see what looked like a micro camera.

For a grand place like this, I would not be surprised if it was a CCTV camera. I concentrated on watching the 32-inches flat-screen in the room. But what continued to surprise me was that Ruth never hinted that she lived in a place as grand as this.

Few minutes later, the lady that ushered me in was back.

‘Sorry, sir, what will you like to take?’

‘Er, nothing for now,’ I replied.

She looked surprised by my answer. ‘Really?’

‘Yes. Maybe later, but for now, nothing.’

She looked at me for a couple of seconds and smiled.

‘Okay.’

I sighed as she retreated. Somehow, I wondered if the same Ruth I was looking for was the one that lived in that house. I didn’t wonder for long. Another lady soon breezed in with an apologetic smile, wearing a t-shirt and a bum short.

‘Good morning, dear. Sorry to keep you waiting.’

It was my dear Ruth. Unconsciously, I stood up from my seat.
