You don't understand the mechanics of income taxes in the UK, hence, you look at the surface only. I am a chartered accountant and a UK tax consultant so I can tell you that some additional rate payers pay as much as 60% because at certain income levels above GBP145,500 threshold the personal allowance (PA) they enjoy becomes ZERO. And then plus National Insurance (NI) deductions their tax burden hits 60%.

However, if you have a tax consultant like me to work with you we could ligitimately adopt some tax avoidance strategies to save you from this tax hammer.

Income tax is the UK is over 60% for high income earners so even if they pay you high wages, the government will collect most of the money as tax and leave you just ok.

On the contrary, company tax is very low at 19% so it pays companies to not give their money to employees as the government would collect most of it.

Sorry to divert from the topic but why are salaries crazy low in the UK compared to other countries?

I was doing some research on Youtube and found out that what people get paid at Microsoft (US/Canada and Australia) in entry level roles is basically same as what a Director/Manager makes in the UK

I am checking Glassdoor now and £25K / £30K roles in UK = $120K in Australia (Tech). I think the same goes for those in healthcare as I have been researching mental health nursing / social work too

Someone mentioned it to me on Twitter about a year ago and I dismissed his claims citing healthcare and GBP being more than the currency of most countries but having checked now, its weird

Just cant seem to wrap my head around the reason

Great to know that you are thinking of investment and not consumption. Let me drop few lines to guide you. However, I want to state that I am not your financial adviser so you are investing at your own risk as stocks are one of the most risky investment. Also, I am not making any investment recommendation for you as investment and financial planning practice in the UK is a highly regulated.

Currently, the stock market is in a chaos due to Russian war in Ukrain and high interest rate policy pursued by Bank of England to fight inflation in the UK. A combination of these factors have prompted a huge sell-off in the market making the major UK stock market Index (barometer for measuring whether investors in stocks are making or losing money) has falling by 6.1% from Jan. to Oct - implying that those who buy stocks this year have lost money rather then made money.

The good news is that if you are investing for long term - 3 to 5 years, buying stock now is a huge advantage since most of the stocks on the UK stock market are selling below their fair market value i.e. at a discount. The main concern is how will you be able to pick the right stocks that have strong fundamentals and how would you build a portfolio that will help you diversify your risk so that even if one or two stocks you buy are losing money, the other stocks in your portfolio will gain money and this gain will off-set the losses.

I must tell you that it is quite a complex and technical process that is reserved for trained professionals who have gone through professional certifications such as CIMA, CFA, CISI, etc. and are licensed by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). I have got CIMA and passed CFA Level I but have not yet obtained my FCA license. I hope to obtain the FCA financial adviser license as soon as I receive my PSW permit, hence my refrain from making specific investment recommendation to you at this point.

Buhari has left a landmark in Nigeria in one or two projects such as this.

Buhari should support INEC to be unbiased and deliver impartial election and credible election to allow Nigerians choose their next president.
This will make him earn some respect from us.

Politics / Re: Bashir Ahmad: Our Poll Map Shows That Tinubu Will Win 16 States, Obi Will Win 5 by japhethGold: 9:13am On Oct 04, 2022
Please do not drag our Benue to this fake polls doctored by a boy who knows nothing about Nigeria politics. In Benue, Obi will win massively in the presidential elections because we can not tolerate muslim- muslim ticket. However, in the governorship elections where APC has presented a reverend father for the polls, the Rev father will win because of his personal value not because of APC.

Take pen and write this down and we shall discuss it in March 2023 by God's Grace.

PDP CANNOT win n Benue State. APC will carry the day in Benue.

Peter Obi is just a social media president.
The people in my village know only APC and PDP. Only those in the state capital know Obi. Elections are won in the rural areas of which no body knows LP.

Peter Obi is a Social Media President.

These old generation who used tribalism as a weapon of accelerating underdevelopment and mass poverty in Nigerian are incompetent. They have nothing to offer to make Nigeria make progress. It is a shame and pity.

Is it not ironical that the same NNPC who is looking to privatise the 4 national refineries which should secure our domestic oil production is instead diverting funds to buying more downstream fuel stations which will be serviced by either imported fuel or fuel from Dangotes refinery.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: I Damned My Director Over Incomplete Payment Of Allowance. by japhethGold: 9:04am On Aug 27, 2022
Eight years in one small family business is too much. Look for another job and leave. In fact you have over stay your welcome.
Wishing you God's favour as you look for new job.

Halo22:
I have been working in this company for about 8 years now and to be frank, I don't see any much improvement both financially and otherwise.

In addition to that, I noticed some degree of negligence and disregard for old staff, it seems the more years you spend in the company, the less value you accrue. However, I attribute that to the administrative incompetence of the Director who took over from the mum before she( the mum) finally joined her ancestors.

Recall that in April this year, she fired the General manager without any explanation to the rest of the staff, no staff meeting nor briefing. Shortly after that, she reshuffled the managerial team and employed 3 unknown persons who were never part of the company to take over the Management of the company, while she still remains the Director.

All these she did without any form of recourse to her old staff. I never bothered as an old staff until recently, when we started noticing some more incompetency in administration and management of the company. It rose to the extent that workers receive half salary sometimes without any briefing, allowances are not being paid and when they pay, they short pay us.

I couldn't hold it any longer as a man of justice and as such, I wrote to the Director after having meeting with the new GM. In my letter I expressed on behalf of other workers, the feelings of maltreatment and administrative Injustice, as most of them are afraid of opening up, to avoid being sacked.

Then after, the Director herself called for a general meeting and instead of to apologise for all these financial and managerial malfeaseances, she chose to tackle the old workers particularly myself, thinking that we were working against her. I still stood my ground on the path of Justice, finally she tried to pacify the workers by promising a salary increase, based on the number of years spent in the company. But then, I have been on her watchlist all through.

Any little mistake I make, she would capitalize on that to weigh me down. I now seek ur opinions, whether to continue in the company or resign. Good a thing, I have a business that even pay me better than the job.

Your opinions please.

Exactly, this is what is happening to my family now. I can only work when my sweet wife is back from work or off work that day.
But on the whole, it is better than leaving your family behind in nigeria. So just prepare and bring them. It is a price you have to pay for your children future!
bakol:

With a child under 4 years, your wife would hardly be able to work due to restrictions relating to the child care.

1. Your baby will be in a nursery school which is outside the normal govt sponsored education. Hence, u pay as low as 30 pounds per day for 6 hours thereabouts.
2. The school closes 3pm if you so Which. This means ur wife will have to pick up the baby by that Time. Hence, she has a lot of restrictions as far as her availability is concerned.
3. Even child minders are worst with 20-30pounds per child.,

At the end, ur wife might only be able to work if your good self is off from work and u can take care of the Baby...

Please bros, we need optimism NOW but not pessimism as this bros has painted. He is painting a gloomy picture which I refuse to accept.
Period.

There are jobs and there are good opportunities in the UK as it stands. He has forgotten that he is talking about a 3.5 Trillion Dollar Economy capacity that can absorb loads and loads of labour.

If you ask me, I would say choose a good course and also strive to take some professional certifications like Business Analysis, CIMA, ACCA, HR-CPD, OSHI for safety guys, Project management, ect..... Some of these certificates are short and can be taken online now. Sharpen your skills; these are what matter now for young people who japa from Nigeria. Anyway, the future is brighter here than in Nigeria.

So, getting a study visa to come to UK alone is achievement and a life time opportunity. How you see it and use it depends on you.

Thank you and God favour ALL of US in JESUS NAME.

Heey heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey

This is how wicked and bad Nigeria has become? you have degree and some one wanted to pay u 15k salary per month ?

Hmm. God have mercy on our generation and deliver us all in Jesus Name.

Do you see that we need to start stoning politicians who have been in politics since 2009 whenever we see them?

Before I left Nigeria, my driver had just finished secondary school then but I used to pay him 40,000 Naira salary monthly. After 6 months of service I confirmed him and increased the pay to N50,000 monthly. Personally, I have a degree and I know the pain people go through to study for degrees so I can not pay a degree holder N15k per month. I will never.

I will advise you to leave Lokoja and go to lagos even if you have no place to sleep. Go to Unilag or Yaba tech and be sleeping there while searching for job. I am not a theorist; I am telling you what I did when I first got to Lagos. I had no one but I refused to sit in my home state Benue to earn N10k salary after obtaining 2.1 degree in Economics.

It was not an easy journey for me ooo. But I am a Born Again Christian so I studied the Bible and prayed and fought toothlessly until God Almighty settled me.

I became a chartered accountant in Lagos; I owed my audit firm and employed graduates and chartered accountants to work for my firm. I lived in lekki with my family uptil last year. And today my family and I have left Nigeria when the economic situation began to deteriorate beyond repairs under Buhari tsunami regime.

I have shared my story just to motivate you. Your God and degree can make way for you in Lagos if you know what you studied in the Uni.

Today my wife, my three handsome sons and I are all living in the United Kingdom.

I pray my God will make a way for you in Jesus Name.

Finally, connect me on facebook(Japheth Jev), perhaps you may qualify for one of my scholarships to learn IT skill or take ICAN professional exams which can change your story, through Jesus Christ.

Thanks and stay blessed.

Politics / Re: Nigerians ‘Consume’ 2bn Litres Of Petrol In 28 Days by japhethGold: 7:11am On Jun 25, 2022
This is a grand lie; the government agency that is responsible for collating this data is PPPR but apparently they have been compromised and do not even have the accurate data to tell this story.

My company has a technology- IoT that could be deployed to track fuel importation and distribution across the nation but if you contact them they would not give you attention because they are profiting from this fraudulent system.

DPR workers who are posted to Apapa to collect this data collude with oil importers and business men to issue fake certificates to certify the quantity of products imported and take records on sheets of papers which could easily be tampered or misplaced. They collect brown envelops stacked with dollars as kickbacks for these fictitious certificates they issued to business men.

I worked in downstream for some years so I know what I am saying.

Sell you dollars to get Naira if you are in Nigeria, and use your Naira to buy pounds. This pays you better. If you want to exchange dollars to pounds in the UK you may suffer exchange currency losses arising from GBP-USD rate volatilities.

No you can not amend submissions once completed via self service. However, you can go and pay for assisted service at TLS and provided the correct document so they could help you to upload correctly. This can be done on the day of your biometrics.

I hope this will help you.

Good Afternoon Guys , Pls I Need Urgent Responses , Can Someone Who Uploaded & Submitted His/Her UK Student Visa Documents Through Self Service Cancel Such Submitted Documents After Realizing That One Document Was Not Added & One Document Was Mistakenly Added To The Submitted Documents , Can Self Service Be Cancelled & Then Go For The Option Of Assisted Service So As To Add The Omiited Documents & Remove The Mistakenly Added Documents.

Now If The Assisted Service Is Done , Is The Person Meant To Re Upload All The Documents Over Again Or Just Add The Documents Not Included Initially.
