Where are all those people as clueless as the Eguavon that were calling me a whining woman? Have you seen the outcome? All my analysis came to light. No creative midfield, tactless coach, he killed the game in the second half by substituting adbulahi for onyeka who was the engine room of the first half. So Ghana won. The better coach won. Those that said talent will take the day, go and learn more about modern football. The nff killed Nigeria for handling the responsibility of qualifying Nigeria to the world cup to a low profile coach like eguavon. Ghana spent more money to bring experienced coaching crew. Well done Ghana. 4 Likes |

When I, being a realist highlighted the shortcomings of this Nigerian team and the coach, some people called me a whining woman though I empathize with their next to zero knowledge of football. Some said we have a very powerful team and called names like osimhem, Dennis, lookman, Simon , iheanacho etc. But we all know that the better team on the night was Ghana despite being in the lowest period in their football history. Even if we manage to qualify is this the contingent that we will parade at the world cup? Now Ghana is going into return match with the possibility of exploiting the away goal rule to their advantage.GFood luck Eguavon super eagles. Like I predicted the midfield was dominated by Ghana 1 Like |

When emotions are high logic is low- from my understanding of football, the midfield is the engine room in a football pitch. Some people are calling out the names of strikers most of whom participated in the qualifiers. As a Nigerian I wish us well . I hope we perform excellently and go on to shock the world at the world cup, I see Nigeria playing in the finals of the world cup. This is the best possible selection Nigeria could have and best Nigerian team ever. Good job to our football administrators. Ghana is one of the weakest team in Africa now. We got to make a statement by thrashing them 1 Like |

ChrisKels:Mensurating? You are the best definition of an slowpoke. You are mentally below the age of 5. Your deficient intellect cannot stand objective analysis devoid of insults and fails to separate facts from fiction. The objective is to go to the world cup and do well not just to hoist the national flag. Nigeria with all its great players and team has never gone beyond the 2nd round it's a FACT. If you can't handle the truth go to a psychiatric hospital. Even though they are facing challenges now, Ghana has been to the quarter final and was just a penalty away from the semi finals. A man should be mature enough to look facts in the face and make objective as against subjective reactions. That being said let me agree with you that Nigeria has the most balanced and complete team in Africa ahead of the world cup playoffs, we have the most in-form players as selected by our veteran coach. We are going to take the world by storm come the world cup. Does that satisfy your demented state of being? 3 Likes |

The midfield was already weak with the absence of a creative midfielder which Ndidi doubled as both a defensive midfielder and a creative midfielder in the last afcon,. Now Ndidi is out. Check out any cup wining team they need a creative midfielder, they need someone like Luka modric, the reason Spain won the world cup and euro back then was the midfield. They didn't have outstanding strikers but with xavi and iniesta in the centre it was hard for the opponents to gain meaningful possession. Eguavon should look for a creative midfielder, when we won the afcon in 2013 Mikel made more decisive passes than any other player in that afcon edition. He was the livewire spearheading the attackers with incisive passes. We need a player like that, The absence of a creative midfielder was why we couldn't equalise against Tunisia, and eguavon tried to bring in Iwobi to fill that gap but he should have had planned his team around a playmaker from the onset and now we still lack one 1 Like 1 Share |

Do you know that Ghana is ranked as slight favourites to win the first leg of the playoffs. I looked at our defense line and all I could see is mediocrity. None of the defenders have played active football in the last 2months for their club sides except Calvin bassey (who would most likely would be benched), and Sanusi. Are players like abdullahi shehu, balogun, ekong, with unfit omeruoand match rusty etebo the most in-form footballers Nigeria can come up with? Now the only player close to world class in our squad Ndidi is out. I hope people won't be disappointed after the game |

I just found out that Ghanaian coach addo Iwas a former assistant coach of Hamburg and borrusia Dortmund, now teaming up with Chris hughton to try to secure Ghana's ticket to the world cup. Somehow, I feel this match will be decided more by the tactical experience of the coaching crew than on the talents on the pitch. But I which clueless eguavaon good luck 2 Likes |

benji93:https://www.eyefootball.com/mobile/34901/Chris-Hughton-Englands-underrated-coaches.html You can see that in this article Chris is described as one of the most underrated coaches in England. The Ghanaian FA were in search if a top class coach that could inspire confidence and respect from their players and rebuild the team, that's why they involved Chris hughton. It shows you how much they want to be at the world cup. I may not know the standards that define a world class coach but would you say that one of the most underrated coaches in England is not world class? Do you think Eguavon will ever be considered or dream of coaching in the top 5 league? |

Danielnino00:When I say world class (thank you for the emphasis- technical advisor ) im not comparing him to guardiola, tuchel, mohrino, etc but he has played and coached at the highest leagues as far as the sport is concerned. He is one of the few blacks to have coached in the premier league. He was the caretaker coach of Tottenham at a time. He has been voted Championship Manager of the Year twice: in 2010 while at Newcastle and in 2016 for his work at Brighton. I think the has a lot of experience about the game. Compare him to Eguavon, eguavon apart from coaching one south African club has been coaching gombe utd, enyimba etc. He has never played or coached in a top 5 league. Is this the resume needed for Nigeria to make an impact at the world cup? So I was calling Chris world class when compared to eguavon. Why doesn't Nff hite a coach that has coached in thr top 5 leagues likewise? 1 Like |

Eguavon is very predictable as the tunisian coach said, the same starting line up at afcon will feature, chukwueze and moses Simon on the wings, these players play the same way and try to hold on to the ball, are weak at crosses which makes it easy for their opponents do their homework effectively, osihmen at the attack bit who's gonna supply the passes to him? Without ndidi, Thomas partner has a field day. Even with ndidi, lookman and iheanacho, Thomas partner opened the scoring against a Leicester side that was thrashed last week |

13large: I agree that it is one of the weakest Ghanaian teams but there is a reason they haven't announced their squad. They are up to something different. Secondly, this Nigerian team is overrated by Nigerians as usual. The same team struggled against the likes if cape verde, central African republic to qualify for Afcom and lost in the second round to a covid depleted tunisian first eleven. Football has gone more tactical than just sending players in the field and telling them just express yourselves anyhow. Let's not be taken away by entertaining football at the expense of strategy. There has to be a strategy masterminded from the coaching crew to make the difference when the game gets hot. Ghana's rumoured to bring back the likes of mintari and boateng. This people especially muntari used to have very powerful long distance shot( watch Ghana vs Uruguay worlds cup 2010 to confirm), how many will our goalkeeper catch. He is conceedeing goals generously even in his clubside |

Sentiments at work, Nigeria was already expected to win Afcon and crush Tunisia mercilessly just because of some first round points. Now Nigeria is expected to crush ghana just like that. Let's see what happens. |
Sports / Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by jasena: 4:13pm On Mar 19, 2022 |
If I were to stake my money on the outcome, I would say ghana would qualify for the world cup. 'Soup wet sweet an money kill am'. They have a world class coach with a lot of experience from the premiership. While eguavon is playing is football with his mouth, and bringing up a list to 'pacify some people in the nff', his Ghanaian counterpart is silent on the matter. We haven't learnt from our mistakes in afcon, Nigerian players are invited on the basis of sentiment rather than merit or current form. Nigerias most consistent scorers in the big stage such as cyriel dessert(wven scored this week at the Europe Conference league), nwaekeme ( Nigeria's top performer in terms of goals and assists in Europe ) are ignored. And poorly performing goalkeeper like okoye is maintained, old legs like onazi and etebo are brought in, bonke overlooked, moffi overlooked, our coach is also a poor match reader and I'm sure the Ghanaian coach has his plan a, b and c in place. Another Tunisia sort of match seems to be in the making 1 Like |

Why wouldn't he make such prophecies? Did we except knocked out of the Afcon at the round of 16 by a covid virus depleted team? 'Soup wet sweet an money kill am'. Ghana is hiring a world class coach, who has had stints with Tottenham, Newcastle etc, he has the experience, but we put sentiments into play as usual to bring in eguavon, is eguavon there on merit? At the end the matches (Nigeria vs ghana) will be decided by the tactical decisions of the coaching crews. May the most deserving coaching crew win. 1 Like |

It is not colonial mentality. Nigeria as an independent nation ruled by Nigerian is doing worse in every department as against when it was handled by the colonialist. Ghana has enlisted the services of a world class coach of Ghanaian and British descent. Soup wet sweet an money kill am. This coach has managed the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle, Norwich, and is convinvincing foreign born Ghanaians to play for ghana. He has the experience at the highest level, he can read matches and knows what to do. Egypt took up an experienced coach despite not having a star studded lineup barring slash and trezeguet but they are in the semi finals. Tactics matter a lot. While I don't care where the coach comes from, I feel the coach should have the pedigree to produce results against world class opposition |

Let's give credit where it is due, I think we had the best defence in the tournament, bad goalkeeper uzoho was better.Good defensive midfield. Ndidi is a boss at that department.Absolutely no creative midfielder play, watch the goal BF scored, an impressive pass from the midfield found their attacker going one on one with the tunisian midfield. I thought Nwakali was added to the team to fill that vaccubut evuavon decided to leave bin on the bench. And though our wingers especially moses Simon we're flashy, they don't really play team football that much, it appears Simon I was particular was more interested in making a name for himself even if it had to be at the expense of the team. Finally we neededbetter strikers with goal instincts than awoniyi |
Sports / Re: Burkina Faso Vs Tunisia : AFCON 2021 Quarter-final (1 - 0) On 29th January 2022 by jasena: 4:45am On Jan 30, 2022 |
Being an ex International doesn't automatically make you a good coach. Eguavon has never excelled as a coach. He lacks tactical know how and his selection is based on familiarity or popularity rather than ability and form. Even a lame man could see that awoniyi never provided bite at the attack and umar was better. The same goes for the goalie. The burkina faso team I saw would have defeated Nigeria, look at the goal they scored, in similar situations Nigerian players just kick the ball to the onrushing goal keeper ( ejuke did that against Egypt while umar at did that at the dying minutes of Tunisia match) but bf man running at high speed and seeing that the defenders and goal keeper closed in on him, change direction of the ball to give him enough space to score. My verdict is that this very team or lead by eguavon if they manage to defeat ghana will be eliminated at the first round of the world cup. We need a good coach with good credentials, and the team needs to be rijigged. We have players like ademola lukman, olise, even Samuel kalu, cyriel, etc.Our players are average players 2 Likes |

This current team as it is, irrespective of the coach can't go fat if it manages to qualify for the world cup, it needs to be rejigged. We need good attackers and the creative midfielders that can link up the attack, the defence and defensive part of the midfield is strong, But it becomes hard for strikers if they have to win the ball themselves before trying to score. Moses Simon holds on to the ball too long, it is not the style of play for tough opposition. |
