FamilyRe: How Much Income Is Reasonable Before Marriage? by jay7(m): 3:12am On Jul 23, 2017
iamrealdeji:
my guy,my married neighbour sleeps on the mat at the corridor whenever his wife's relatives are around,he vacates the one room he lives with his wife for them. I once sent this guy to fill my gas cooker for me and he stole part of my money and threw the receipt in a tyre for me not to know the actual amount just to feed his family, you should see how this guy complains bitterly whenever he wants to buy their baby's pampers. no rest of mind for him because he borrows money to take care of his family at times if there is no money, and yet, other older married men usually say he has not seen anything yet that it would get to a time he would feel like he's just fetching water into a basket and feel like running away when they have their second child and children start school and all.
A caretaker that rented my shop to me advised me not to rush into marriage. he said he rushed into marriage and now he's in his 40's,he is struggling so hard, sold his car for him to pay his children's school fees when they entered higher institution and upkeep, one child even had to wait for another . he said the reason he's so backward is because he rushed into marriage. his salary is not bad but raising family in Nigeria requires preparing well before marriage. there is nothing like favour coming after marriage o,its pure lie and African formulated fallacy. most marriages I've seen are not like that at all, only few men become successful after marriage and its because they're on the way to success even before marriage or just lucky. married men that didnt prepare well before marriage are the ones that are feeling this recession most,I do pity them. lots of married men that didn't prepare well always do soughts of illegal stuffs even after salaries just to take care of family, send them to buy you something, they would always try to steal part of your money and tell you the wrong price, many of them have done that to me
From your write-up you said something about preparation, I will like to say something about that, there is a popular saying that failure to plan is planning to fail, if you want to succeed make a plan and be deligent with what you are doing, work with the right people and you will be surprise at how fast you will be successful, know matter how local your environment is there are people who are making it real big legally there, why not study them and take a clue from what they are doing, like I always say been a graduate is not a guarantee that one will be successful because we overate certificate in this part of the world 80% of graduates want to work in a multi-national company forgetting that the said company started from the scratch by someone and again we graduates claim too big to do some menier jobs which gives high return because the said job will not make you look clean, take a look at the Northern part of the country life is a bit cheaper there compared to the other parts especially agricultural produce, there was a time a bag of onions is 2,500 naira where as the same bag sells for as high as 6000 to 10000 in Lagos and some other part of the country and the cost of transporting it to anywhere is not more than 1000 to 2000 naira, let's say you are making 1000 naira on a bag and you are able to sell 25 bags in a month as an wholesaler that is 25000 add that to your monthly income and you will see the difference, I am saying this not because I am better or because I am wise but most people will stop huzzling after marriage trying to measure up or compete with an already established man, my own take on the issue is marriage will not make you rich or poor what will make you rich or poor is your mentality and the ability to see opportunity wherever you find yourself but most importantly have a projected plan and a source of income before going into marriage.

humilitypays:
In present day Nigeria under president Buhari/Osinbajo, you need at least NGN200,000 monthly to live a basic life and live in a decent 2-bedroom apartment in a low income city area in Nigeria.

But if your wife to be is working and earning at least NGNG100,000 monthly, that is very okay to start a family with her...if not, it won't be that easy with the current inflation.

Mathematically:

House rent per annum = NGN350,000; NGN30,000 monthly

Monthly feeding with your wife alone = NGN3000 x 30 = NGN90,000 monthly feeding

Other daily expenditures + helping family members, etc = NGN100,000 monthly

Clothing and others monthly = NGN50,000

Total projected/estimated monthly expenditures = NGN30,000 + NGN90,000 + NGN100,000 + NGN50,000 = NGN270,000

So with an income of NGN270,000 monthly, u can start a decent home with your wife to be, good luck smiley
How i wish life can be calculated like this 90k for feeding just 2 people in a month? The last time a check a 50kg bag of rice is 18,800 naira which two people cannot finish in four months, and buying other feed items and soup ingredients will not cost more than 30k, though I will advice that one shouldn't go into marriage without a nice job coupled with a side business to sustain the family when salary is shaking or not coming at all.

FortuneTeller:
Why would you want a woman to suffer with you? Why would you want your children to suffer? This is wicked. You should seek out women who come from wealthy families, so that you do not frustrate some poor lady. Be honest with the woman about your business and finances, so you are not thrown away later. It's possible her family will help you obtain better employment
Why not do a simple calculation before you reply the OP, he said he makes at least #2,500 per day, let's say he works 25 days in a month (2500*25=62,500) that's to say he is making above 50,000 a month which is more than the starting salary of some firms, instead of saying a lady will suffer with him you can advice him to safe for some months then invest in another business to boost his monthly income, if all a lady sees before marrying a guy is money and not how productive the guy is then I am scared the lady might be making a big mistake, what if after marrying the guy things change financially due to economic policies, sickness or the guy is been implicated at work and he was sacked will you divorce him and marry another? because wealth is nothing but a mere visitor it's stays permanently in some places and visit some places for a while, the best thing is to fix the money on something important when it comes so that if the unexpected happened one will have something to fall back on (invest in productive business and most importantly human asset "money will finish, car will get spoilt someday, house might get burn or even collapse but human investment is what will always come back to rescue you) out of every ten (10) people you help I am sure one (1) will definitely come to your rescue when you are facing the storm of life.

PoliticsEzekwesili Speaks On Dino Melaye's Recall. by jay7(op): 6:48am On Jul 06, 2017
Ezekwesili speaks on Dino Melaye’s recall.

A former Minister of Education and a co-leader of the #BringBackOurGirls group, Oby Ezekwesili, has attacked Nigeria’s Senate for appearing to be backing the controversial senator, Dino Melaye, against the recall process initiated by the senator’s constituents in Kogi State.
Mr. Melaye had on Tuesday at the plenary begged his co-senators to save him from being recalled, during which the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, assured him that the recall process was “dead on arrival”.
Responding to the remark by Mr. Ekweremadu, Mrs. Ezekwesili, on Twitter, Tuesday, accused the Deputy Senate President of speaking “so cynically and without due respect to citizens’ right”.
Mrs. Ezekwesili (@obyezeks) tweeted, “This too shall pass”.
She then went on to tweet, “Our members of @nassnigeria are like a man who NEVER imagined he would get an Ozo title. He wears the beads on his knees instead of ankles!
“Funny fellows that call themselves ‘Excellencies, Distinguished, and Honorable’. They don’t know that ‘the hood does not make a monk’”.
Dino Melaye
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has been reported as saying that those after Mr. Melaye were only wasting their time, implying that the recall won’t succeed.
Mrs. Ezekwesili responded, still on Twitter, by warning the Senate president to stop “talking down” on citizens.

“No serious leader of any institution of Democracy in a serious country that respects its citizens speaks like you,” she told Mr. Saraki.
The former minister also tweeted about the ongoing face-off between the National Assembly and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, over Mr. Fashola’s allegation that the lawmakers apart from slashing N21 billion off the N31 billion vote for the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, had inserted new projects into the ministry’s 2017 budget.
Senate President Bukola Saraki
Mr. Fashola had also accused the National Assembly of taking N5 billion off the budget for the construction of the Second Niger Bridge.
The House of Representatives, Tuesday, summoned Mr. Fashola to appear before it, saying his remarks constituted an incitement of Nigerians against the legislators.
Mrs. Ezekwesili expressed her faith in Mr. Fashola’s ability to stand up to the lawmakers whom she said should be made to refund the “the fat ‘allowances’ they earn for NOTHING”.
When a fellow Twitter user cautioned Mrs. Ezekwesili that she too could be summoned by the National Assembly, she responded: “They won’t. When the 7th NASS insulted me for pointing out their disgraceful ‘allowances,’ I asked for a Debate. They dodged.”
The former minister however said it was not that she did not like the legislative arm of government, but just that she detested their “bad ways”.

AgricultureBird Flu Outbreak In Nigeria/nine Ways To Avoid Bird Flu by jay7(op): 3:09am On Jun 03, 2017
The Federal Government on Friday alerted Nigerians to the outbreak of Avian Influenza or bird flu in the Federal Capital Territory and seven states of the country.
Gideon Mshelbwala, the Director of Veterinary and Pest Control Services, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, listed the states affected by the outbreak to include Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Nasarawa, Plateau, FCT and Kaduna, which reported a case on May 30.
Premium Times has compiled some of the things people need to know to help prevent the spread and reduce the epidemic outbreak of the disease.
1. Avoid wild and domesticated birds, especially birds that appear ill or dead.
2. Cook poultry food thoroughly until the juice are clear with a minimum internal temperature of 74 degrees (165 F), heat kills avian viruses.
3. Wash your hands with alcohol based hand sanitizer containing at least 60 per cent alcohol especially after contact with poultry foods.
4. Avoid small rural area farms and open air market especially places where live poultry are raised, kept or sold.
5. Get influenza vaccine where available. A vaccine shot will help reduce the risk of simultaneous infection with bird and human flu viruses.
6. Steer clear of raw eggs, avoid food containing raw or under-cooked eggs because eggshells are often contaminated with bird droppings.
7. Avoid cross-contamination of utensils and surfaces which have come in contact with raw poultry or poultry droppings.
8. Avoid close contact with family members diagnosed or who have been or suspected to be exposed to avian influenza viruses.
9. Report health-related cases or any flu-like symptoms.

please house I need a seriously advise

I met my girlfriend 3 year's ago , and I really loves everything about her since then till now because she always abide my decisions and very cool person like the type of future's partner I'm praying for .

When I introduced her to my mum last year . She was so excited and prayed for the two of us , but she called me after a week later and told me that I can't marry that girl at all and when I asked her the reason why , she said she was told by her pastor and I must follow what she said without any question again because I'm just alone from her , but I disagree with her and continue my life with that bae thinking that I may get chance to convince my mum but not

The problem now is I'm in love with this bae seriously but my mum insisted that if I must marry that girl , is either for me to forget her as a mother OR after her death

I'm planning to marry next year but I don't really know what to do now

pls serious advice
Well I am not here to condemn your mother or the Pastor, but this praying here and praying there of a thing has help to hold many relationship and also scatter it, I once told a friend who was so so proud of her pastor to be the best when it comes to chosen a life partner, instead of arguing with her I told her I would like to test her pastor, I ask her to write my name, two of her brothers name and a friend name, after writing those names I ask her to take it to her pastor and tell him that the four of us are asking her out, that which of us should she choose or go for, after everything she came back that my name and her blood brother's name was chosen that but the man emphasis on his brother that he is the most qualified to be her husband after that scenario her mentality change for good, If truly you believe in your pastor and you want him to pray about your future partner put his faith to test first by writing all the names of your girlfriend or boyfriend to the man of God to pray about it, (let's say your boyfriend has 4 names Segun, John, Akin, Bayo) write all his name and take it to the man of God if he is truly a man of God he will tell you he is seeing the same person and might even go as far as asking you that why are you testing his faith. I did not write this for us to disobey our parents but I want us to know that it is not everyone that call me Lord that will make the Kingdom of God. many divorcee today were once told they are heavenly match by some fake man of God so let us reason with our eyes widely open.

(2) Yes i am a graduate of Physics. I graduated in 2007. I have been working for 7 years in a bank. I am 36. I use a honda accord 2007 model and i am slmost through with my personal house.
I am experienced enough to know that u do not go into a venture(marriage in this cade) based on mere hope alone that things would be better. It is dangerous. Life is full of unforseen circumstances and u must plan for them. Saying some folks earn about N50k and send their wards to private schools is not a right argument. If they fo not have a legitimate business by the side which fetches them goid income then they are probably stealing.....My take
Thanks for the prompt response but like I said everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but I will like to chip in this, been rich and comfortable is not until you have Millions and Billions in your bank account, riches is a state of mind and contentment let us take Aliko Dangote and Seun Osewa of Nairaland or Makinde Azeez of Naijaloaded or even yourself as an example here, riches is in classes and stages once you are able to manage the little you have at your disposal and you are doing a legitimate business alongside then one should be ok. (one may be earning 500,000 a month and still not achieve anything tangible in life if he is not planning well and another person might be earning 70,000 a month and accomplish many things with that, Sir one thing I want you to know is that with the little you see them earning they can still save and start something from it, another mistake we make is waiting until we have millions before we start a business, I will advice we the youths that we should look at our environment and start something I could remember when I was in school I bought a 3 in 1 printer just to make extra income for 33,000 and i can tell you that as a student then taking my academic work as the primary objective i still make tangible amount of money from that small gadget I bought for 33,000 naira, I am saying all this to encourage us that one can start a business with little amount and still make better profit, but at times as a graduate we claim to be too big to do some jobs whereas if we divide our salary by 30 days in a month we will be surprise that some people are not earning more than 1500, 2000, 2200, 3000 e.t.c daily and a man riding keke maruwa or a taxi driver is making more than that on daily basis.

Don't mind naira land kids. This is why i will never ask question about my life on a forum like naira land ? When i married in 2010, my salary was 54,856 naira, and my wife was earning 10k in a private hospital here in Ogun state. We were managing like that till 2014, when God opened our ways. But today, i have cars a business of mine , and a mansion to call a home. If i had allowed my salary to barr me from marrying my lovely girl , maybe by now I would have still be poor. Just be focused , cut your cloth according to your cloth, plan your life , look out for business opportunities wherever you are , don't compete with anybody, avoid owambe , at least for now . In the next few years , you will come here to pay homage to us.

However, you must ensure she is a woman that listen to sense, she must not be owanbeic , she must not be an iPhone lover . If she possesses these attributes, you can SURELY make it with that salary. Let me shock you, when i wanted to start my business in march 2014, i was only having 20k in my account, but just as the saying goes, when there is a will , there will always be a way, someone who wasn't a really a friend of mine , lent me 200k, after a while , i was able to walk to another aquitance of mine to lend 100k, as the business was expanding, i burrowed another 500k . Within a year, i repaid all the money with interest and gifted myself with a beautiful car to call a ride. My brother, don't listen to kids, plan your life , do good and let God handle the rest. Meanwhile, remember, God won't do for a man what he can do for himself. So , as you pray, think more of solutions , when doing this, you will be able to see and recognise God's mensager whenever he comes your way. Talking from experience bro.
Thanks there is more to life than we youths of today thinks of it.

Let me use teacher's as an example there are some states where they pay teacher's less than 50,000 and they still went ahead to marry and enroll there kids in private school's, to the OP you will not remain on that salary scale for life my advice to you is if the lady is the understanding type please go ahead and marry her.
