My wife's visa was approved today. I bless God for His grace. I am really excited.

So here is my timeline

Application was submitted on the 28th Feb 2019

Medical examination was done - 5th March (without medical request from IRCC)

Request to do medicals from IRCC - 29th March, 2019 (So I believe this request was sent because I forgot to upload the e-medical info sheet my wife got at the clinic and this probably delayed processing, overall)

Uploaded e-medical info sheet - 29th March 2019
(I got a response that the form has been received and sent to the appropriate office for processing in Nairobi. However, I later got worried because after 3 weeks, result of her medicals wasn't updated. Infact, on April 29th, we got an update on her portal that they didn't receive her medical result. So I had to raise CSE to London office and and a general enquiry where I copied Nairobi).

Medical passed - May 1st 2019.

Biometric Confirmation letter - May 1st, 2019.

Passport Request - May 2nd 2019.

My advice to anyone is to remember to attach your e-medical info sheet to your application before submitting (if you did upfront medicals). Do not go through the stress I went through.

I will put up the docs we used in making a successful application. I hope it helps someone.

Contact VFS, they will let you know the procedures.
Meanwhile, Since you have US visa, why waste your time with applying in Lagos?

You could visit the Canadian/Us border either from Detroit or Michigan at the Blue water bridge even New York..
There you apply in person and get it same day.
IRCC only takes application money and reject applications at will when its coming from Nigeria.

I did not know that I would need my passport but now, I need to go to the USA (work related) and I have a valid US visa in it. How do I ask for my passport back without cancelling my application? The journey all started in December 2017 after assuring my wife that their application should not take more than 2 - 3 months. I thought I knew it all.

1st Application (Paper route)
Submitted December 10th, 2017
Application updated in February 28th as Refused
Reason for refusal:
Generic travel history
purpose of visit
Personal asset
financial status

I applied for GCMS NOTE sharply, but I have in mind that the reason for the purpose of visit was because my study permit will soon expire in June 2018 and my program still continues till 2019 September. I applied for SP extension immediately and it took 2 months to come out in May 8th, 2018.

GCMS notes: focused on my wife financial status and personal asset. that what we had is not enough total of $17,000 cad. She had $7000 in her account and mine was $10,000 cad. The said amount was calculated with what is on IRCC website that:
Host: $10,000
2nd person : $4,000
if any 3rd: $3000 as living expense. But this is for PR application because for SOWP, there is no set proof of fund.

Result from gcms: Visa officer use what is called LICO (Low Income Cut-off) measure to make his or her judgement. It was written there that for a family of 3, $37,000 should be seen.

Another issue was that, I went to print out my statement showing inflow and outflow here in Canada, and most of the money was sent to me by friends here towards the submission date. So V.O said both I and my wife lodged huge money prior to submission and no explanation was given.

Application REFUSED.

2nd Application
Submitted May 15th 2018
Online route: Thinking it will be faster than paper and better.
Upfront medical was done.
Medical for wife updated as passed after one month June 18th.

Concerning the reasons for refusal:
1. I got a funding letter from my supervisor stating that from May 2018 I will be receiving a stipend of $1350 for 1 year = $16,200
2. I submitted just a bank balance statement of $17,000 cad (All money borrowed) and after application submission , I returned back all the money.
3. Wifey got a Cash gift from her Dad #10,000,000 transferred to her account and a deed of gift along with a letter of introduction to the V.O and also a land was transferred to both of us and deed of gift was done in January 2018 before the refusal + wifey Business account of #1,000,000 = 11million naira = $40,703 cad
Total fund showed was $74k+cad

Purpose of visit: we simply said my purpose is to reunite with my husband then returned to Nigeria after his program have ended.
Travel history: I have never had any reason to travel out of my beloved country ever since I was born, and this should not be used against me.

Then the wait started from May 15th. In September, Daughter medical was updated as Passed.
I contacted 2 MP's office one in Saskatoon and the other in Regina, Little they can do, just encouragement that we should be patience.
wrote several emails to London office with many IRCC web form, No response.

I applied for GCMS note in october 2018, it shows that medical and criminality are passed but review has not started nor assigned to anyone.
In November again after 2 weeks from the first gcms note, I applied again, result was the same with the first one. It was literally abandoned one place.

December 2018, I wrote a letter to the Immigration minister Ahmed Hussen, He responded that My local MP will get back to me. Still nothing.

January I travelled back to Nigeria to see my family I don miss my wife. Conji is not good at all.... . came back in Feb 17th and still no news. I wrote Prime minister Justin Trudeau, copied Ahmed Hussen again. No response.

The following wee I wrote the president of my University. He set up a meeting to discuss with me and further set up another meeting with the school immigration lawyer which was yesterday 5th after the meeting the Jazz lawyer told me to consider EE application I should write IELTS. I was just nodding.

My point; God has already done it for us while I was making all this moves thinking it should be done by my head knowledge. At the end. today 6th March , 2019, Wifey called that she saw an update , DONOTREPLY, checking with fear, I saw Application approved. Praise God.

To you out there, yours will come sooner than you know.

My medicals wasn't updated on my portal for 2 weeks o. I wanted to faint. Called IOM severally, they insisted it had been sent. Sent a CSE and webform to report a technical issue. It was resolved, and then the waiting started. Prayers and Fasting oo. Mehn!! This waiting isn't for the faint hearted.
All I just wanted was to go join my husband. If to say I get power fit dey fly every night go meet am, I for use that power o. We got married not too long ago, so this madam just wanted to be with Bros. Thank God for coming through for us.

Please I would also like to use this medium to ask another question. I had been refused Visitors Visa and someone adviced my spouse that I should ask for SOWP. Now, the GCMS note that he received reads.' Given the fact that applicant is currently in the EE system, obviously desiring to move to Canada one day, and giving that ones in Canada with her husband (on a SP and with a work contract since May 2018) and her two children, there will be no strong ties to Nigeria, I have concluded that the incentive to remain in Canada may outweigh her ties to her home country.'

Please i'm asking for your expert advice on how to handle the above reason.
A brief background ( I work with an IOC here in Nigeria and also a director in a private company in Abuja with CAC documents, Tax clearance can be provided. Although I never mentioned the company in my Visitors applications) Thanks.

Sorry about your refusal dear sister. It's a refusal not denial, so there's hope.

I can easily spot two issues from your explanations.
1. Over confidence
2. Desperation.

To be honest, our people have messed up Canadian Immigration to a point that CIC now finds it difficult to trust Nigerians. They doubt every single document from us and every story we tell, until proven otherwise. The ideal would be to believe that our documents are true/valid until proven not - and there seems to be nothing we can do than continue to try.

To my no.1 above, I was a victim in my wife's first application in July 2017. I had submitted my (personal GTB Dom) bank statements (denominated in USD: 12 months inflow of $111k+ USD and closing balance of $37k+) joined with my CIBC (Canada) account with closing balance of $35k+ CDN. My company documents, 3 landed documents, etc BUT we failed to add my wife's account statement with the assumption that mine was enough. CIC turned that application down claiming that my wife has 'no PERSONAL finance' and 'poor establishments' in home country to guarantee her return.

They further questioned if I was truly enrolled in school (whereas I added an official enrollment + spouse invitation letter from school). They also said they were not sure how our relationship unfolded, basically doubting if my wife was my wife for real. NOTE: My marriage was at federal Marriage Registry in the heart of FCT!, plus we added pictures from both court and church weddings, family photos at both weddings, including court & church marriage cert, newspaper publication for change of name, affidavit, etc. What point am I making here? Not including my wife's statement foiled everything else and made them question things they should never have!

Your hubby resumed January, you applied in March and got refused and by June you already re-applied. This wouldn't have been an issue if you were from China, UK or even Kenya. But you are a Nigerian & applying from Nigeria. That was the issue. CIC saw a desperation to relocate, they didn't believe you truly wanted to visit your husband. And this is a bad thing for them to have developed that presupposition on us.

I understand that your second refusal was based on:

1.Personal asset and finance ( I submitted both dollar and Naira account with 3 land documents)
2. Document submitted could not be authenticated.

To tackle this, you need to give it a break first. Let your husband get at least a part time job and establish few months of work record in Canada, then add his previous semester transcripts, enrollment letters, and letter from International Student office - of course with his bank statement not just yours. Also try on your own to figure why your documents could not be authenticated, I am hearing that for the first time.

This people don't understand the 'church language', they trust papers with legal backing. Get such letters notarized, only then would it count.

No doubt about this, very few people would leave a well paid job in IOC to come here to work in McDonalds. But then, they don't believe you.

This is understandable, but let him chill. If you rush it you may prolly get same result. No one is praying for this, but that's what we have gathered from experience.

Again: Avoid Agents!

How about my wife?
Well she waited for about 7 months before reapplying in April this year. We added a few more documents (which we ignored in the first application) including her 6-months account statement. An of course we now have a 5 months old pretty daughter. Their application remain pending with no words for now, but we are hopeful.

I find this forum more useful than most agents out there. Once you have the right documents, do it yourself. Many gurus on this thread will help you. Cheers dear sister and regards to your family.

My hubby then asked that we should use the consultants that did his study permit and they applied early June and 3 days ago my children's applications were refused on the following grounds
1.Personal asset and finance ( I submitted both dollar and Naira account with 3 land documents)
2. Document submitted could not be authenticated. ( I only submitted their admission letter and letter from their school. All other documents are mine which are very valid and verifiable e.g. company introduction letter (stating my earnings, approved leave period, my dependents, when I joined and that my employment is fixed) my tax clearance, letter from pension fund,payslips, tentative flight bookings,hubby's employment letter and payslip in Canada,Enrollment letter from the school, study permit, etc. )

Meanwhile I addressed the concern of the 1st VO's by providing a letter from my church since i'm the church administrator and I added it to the second application).

while my application is yet to be released.

Background:
I sponsored hubby application.
Have a good bank balance (Naira & Dollar)
We all have valid US and UK visas.
Very good job with IOC in nigeria
