The Bayelsa state governorship election has come and gone but we won't forget the violence that marred the election so quickly, there was snatching of election materials and some innocent citizens lost their lives in the process.

Progress Neverdie, The Paramount Ruler of Peremabiri Community was also a victim of the violence of the election which took place on Saturday January 9th.

We can not authoritatively say which party attacked him but it was a serious incidence.

bad reward for a good servant indeed..........Mr op how much dey pay you............grin

Nairaland GeneralDikko: Bad Reward For A Good Servant by jaybossYBNL(op):
But for the ubiquitous prevalence of mobile devices and growing internet penetration, we may just as well be in 1983 when personal liberties were scant under a complete dictatorship. Recent events clearly show we are inching back to the atmosphere of those dark days. The greatest indication of this yet is the siege laid to the Jabi, Abuja residence of the former Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Inde Dikko by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The invasion that followed the siege was as crude as it was alarming.

Yes. The Abdullahi Inde Dikko in question is the same one that revolutionised the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) within the six years he held sway. The same one that transformed the operations of the service from analogue to digital with consequence that businesses are able to clear their goods in the shortest possible time; he boosted the morale of men and officers; built infrastructures for the service across the country. We are talking about the same Mr Dikko who demonstrated that the chants about diversifying from oil revenue could be a reality when he astronomically increased the revenue generation capacity of the service and was on the way to netting the nation N100 billion monthly.

It was this very same man that the Chairman of the House Committee on Customs, Hon. Sabo Nakudu, recommended to the officers of the Service and just about everyone interested in studying the dynamics of leadership to take a cue from. It was Mr Dikko who voluntarily retired as Comptroller General of NCS to allow a fresh leadership to take the reforms he initiated to a new level.
So at what point was it decided that his abode should be invaded by EFCC operatives like a common criminal?

Several indicators suggest the incumbent regime of President Muhammadu Buhari has not come clean with Nigerians on what is going on. First, why adopt the Gestapo styled raid when it was possible to have invited Mr Dikko to volunteer information that can be legitimately sought and the ones he was in a position to answer before his trip out of the country?

Secondly, the expectation is that law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies would act on the strength of information, credible intelligence and evidence. But the raid on Mr Dikko’s residence apparently failed to yield whatever the invaders were after hence the insinuation that they are seeking other sites to ransack in their quest to have evidence or cook up some. Why invade a person’s residence, particularly in his absence, when there is not adequate intelligence that the objects of interest were on the premises? This spree of evidence shopping is now common place going by the experiences of those presently in incarceration. The EFCC even admitted in some instances that it had no evidence on some of the people incarcerated in the name of conducting investigations after arrests.

Next is the fact that, with Mr Dikko away, his children – reported to be minors, were the ones at home, yet the raid went ahead. The kids were greatly traumatized to the point of being left in tears. One can only wonder about the extent of psychological and emotional damage done to the young ones on account of officers who could have kept the residence under watch until the owner returns but decided to unleash terror on children who had no connection with the politics of the day.

Furthermore, the siege, raid and unleashing of terror were carried out without warrant. What was the hurry that the procedural requirement of showing up with that piece of paper was disregarded? The decision to invade Mr Dikko’s residence without a valid warrant suggests his situation would be another trial in the media and public opinion regardless of what allegations would be brought against him. He is going to be added to the growing list of the perceived ‘enemies’ of the present government that must be hounded into extinction even if it means pronouncing a guilty verdict at a mob trial since obtaining evidence without warrant is already a sure way to make any case against an accused person collapse.

Nigerians however have cause to worry.

A new dimension is being introduced to the clampdown on personal liberties as the regime seems to be entrenching its autocratic credential faster than anticipated. Those after Mr Dikko, via the kites they usually fly in the media, might have added treason to his supposed crimes in addition to the list of alleged economic crimes they usually charge their perceived enemies with.

Considering that they are having a hard time to perpetually keep their victims in the gulag on account of court interventions, a charge of treason would imply a longer period of incarceration regardless of whether the person would eventually be found not guilty if the case successfully went through trial.

The spectre of dictatorship further looms larger with the reported directive that Mr Dikko should be arrested at any airport he arrives at upon his return from his trip. Does this mean an order to abduct, crate and ship remains a possibility if his errand abroad necessitates not immediately returning home? If the whole idea was to apprehend him, why did the EFCC not closely monitor his movements before and prevent him from travelling?
Nigerians should dispassionately review these happenings and make the necessary interventions. Most citizens desire that corruption and impunity decisively dealt with for us to have a better country. But his should not be misconstrued to the point of gleefully cheering on our rapid descent into dictatorship irrespective of how we personally feel about the persons being hounded.

We should all be rightly alarmed that the FG in an attempt to justify its recent actions would go as far as accusing people who served this nation judiciously with terrorism charges and bogus financial accusations to hang them before any proper trial. Today they go after these people, what happens when they come for us?

HipTV owner and the executive producer of The Headies Awards, Ayo Animashaun revealed everything about the controversies trailing the recently-held THe Headies Awards in an interview with Punch's Sunday Spice.

If you could remember, Olamide falled out with Mavin boss Don Jazzy after his protege Lil Kesh didn't win the Next Rated category that was won by Reekado Banks, Don Jazzy's protege. Excerpts below...

Are you worried that the recent controversy may have marred the reputation you have built in 10 years?

I am not worried and there is nothing to worry about. I could if it was my meal ticket but it is not. Although we have had sponsors, but in the past five or six years, we have organised the Headies Awards singlehandedly, and this requires a lot of financial commitment. Artistes always disagree with awards. Some were vocal while others were not. This is not the first time something like this is happening. The screening team put in a lot of work.

What system was adopted for the voting process?

There was an online voting system which collects the phone numbers and email of voters and the votes are automatically counted. That way, you would see who won and who did not. It is devoid of any form of rigging because you cannot vote more than once in one hour. There are different voting categories and some are strictly left for the judges to decide. It is easy to discover if anyone voted or not. Two years ago, we stopped the SMS voting because our SMS partner complained that people came to them to lobby for votes. We did not want our credibility to become an issue. Artistes should learn to check the year under review and understand the definition of each category. People should always vote, or else another artiste will win over the one they like.

Were the awards lobbied for?

People try to lobby and it is not just right to mention names. Some have even offered to buy the cars. We bought three out of the eight cars that have been given out. We started giving out cars when the category became big and we did not want to stop. Revelation of the Year is supposed to be bigger than Next Rated but people attach more importance to it because it comes with a price and Nigerians like freebies. With all sense of humility and responsibility, the artistes cannot pay us and we cannot collect money from them. It is not in our character and we are not greedy. The award plaque is a 21-karat gold plaque and it is mounted on marble. We want to genuinely support the system.

Some people are of the opinion that some of the winning were undeserved.

If you do not vote, the win would be undeserved. It is the same thing as a political election. No one has the right to complain if they did not vote. The voting was poor this year. Most people took the voting for granted and did not vote, so how can they decide who should win and who should not? They should find out if the winners did anything other than just turning up for the awards. At least, someone would be angry enough to say we collected some money from him or her. We deserve some respect if that has not happened in 10 years, why should it occur at this time? We had an average of 500 nominees and over 109 winners.

Some also believe the results were influenced

I would feel offended if i’m ever asked whether we collected money from any artiste. I am like a father to them and I try not to meddle or prefer any artiste over the other. We did not influence the results submitted by the screening team and we also did not reveal the identities of all members of the jury. People have gone to the extent of threatening lives if their artistes do not win. I have reported some of them to the police too.

Fans believe Olamide should apologise to you. Has he?

Olamide is like a son to me. What he did was to the Headies and not to me but he has apologised to me personally. He knows the right thing to do because The Headies is a platform that has celebrated a lot of artistes including him. He and Don Jazzy apologised to me the next day. As the executive producer of the award, I do not act unilaterally, I have a board and we have a disciplinary team and very soon, they will come up with a statement on how to handle the whole issue. We would make it public.

Having enjoyed dominance for 10 years, do you think other award platforms should also spring up?

Of course they should. It is better to have more awards. You do not enjoy that kind of dominance when you spend your money all the time. Sometimes, I think I am crazy for still continuing every year, even without sponsorship. People go into business to make money; maybe others are smarter for not doing it. We do what we do because we have a passion for it.

How do you feel about P-Square boycotting the award?

You cannot have all the artistes in the country around every year. Just a few days before it held, we postponed the awards to two days and no one was given a prior notice. I cannot mandate artistes that were nominated to cancel their previous shows to be present at Headies. If they were billed to perform at another event, they would not return their payment because of Headies so as not to be sued. They performed last year at the Headies last year and they closed the show. I also saw Paul a day after the awards was held and we are fine.

How do you spend you relax?

I usually take a break after the award every year but I have not been able to do that for a couple of reasons. I usually travel alone or with my wife to a quiet place. This is not the time to go on long holidays, we still have a lot of opportunities to harness in Nigeria.

Nairaland GeneralThe Need To Stop Nigerian Filling Stations From Selling Above The Pump Price by jaybossYBNL(op):
This how it happened at Tonimas Filling station in Makurdi Benue state today as posted by a friend on Facebook, we must rise to fight for this by ourselves, Buhari cant be walking from filling stations to filling stations to effect the price.

Rise up now, read this piece and effect that change today...

A friend just called me now saying he went to TONIMAS filling station Makurdi benue state to buy fuel and their sign post read N185 per liter but on getting close to the pump it was sold for N125 per liter so he told them to full his tank (Toyota Highlander).

When that was done,he brought out the cash and paid for N85 per liter (59liters). The filling station manager on noticing that my friend was all out for them trying to make a call to the DPR Director in Benue state Mr Ewuga, he told my friend to drive out after collecting the money.

They however closed the gates and said fuel is finished and what is remaining underground will only take the cars inside the premises because other motorist on the queue noticed what my friend did and will probably follow suit.

It has always been on notice that FG ultimatum will only have effects in the big cities like Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu etc. The other states are never considered economically strong for laws to be enforced so they are ignored to survive on their own. We must henceforth strive to work for ourselves.
