Politics / “it Is Time To Demonstrate Leadership" - Pastor Tunde Bakare Tells President by jaybossYBNL(m): 7:51am On Jan 09, 2017

Senior Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly and former running mate to President Buhari in the 2011 general election, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Sunday had his annual state of the nation speech where he said that it is time for President Buhari to demonstrate leadership and lead Nigeria aright.

He charged President Buhari to re-shuffle his cabinet and ensure that the right people with their expertise are placed in the right places.

“Mr. President must galvanise his team to get the job done; square pegs in round holes must be removed or put in appropriate places; the wicked who surround the righteous must be led away from the presence of the king. Those who cannot stand the heat must get out of the kitchen. It is time to demonstrate leadership, wise judgment and astute public policy that guarantees stable and prosperous nationhood upon a foundation of peace.

It is time to build a well-ordered nation with strong institutions dispensing justice. It is time to arise with patriotic zeal to build a great nation such that, years from now, generations yet unborn will look back at their history, not with disdain, but with gratitude to God that our generation preceded theirs. May 2017 be the year we look into the future with the eyes of faith and take steps to accomplish all that we know is possible” he said.

He frowned at the foreign exchange policy that has led to the lingering scarcity of foreign exchange.

"To begin with, the confusing and discriminatory multiple dollar to naira exchange rates, favourable to some and not so favourable to others, and without doubt confusing for potential investors, must be discarded while a more reliable and predictable exchange rate, mutually beneficial to our people and economy and attractive to foreign investors, should be put in place.

Similarly, prohibitive and punitive interest rates must be lowered in order to liberate the creative ingenuity of our people as well as encourage those who can access mortgages at affordable rates to become homeowners, especially if our Pension Scheme is up-to-date and robust. The multiplier effect of the removal of these bottlenecks in our economy will cushion the effect of the current recession on our people" he said.

Politics / With God, Lagos Will Continue To Experience Steady Growth - Ambode by jaybossYBNL(m): 7:29am On Jan 09, 2017
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday attributed the steady growth of the State in all sectors to God’s intervention, just as he said that with divine direction, the State will continue to experience pleasant surprises all year round.

Speaking at the special Thanksgiving Service to usher in the New Year held at the Lagos House in Ikeja, Governor Ambode recalled the bleak economic outlook predicted for 2016 and his assurance that the State would against all odds make appreciable progress, saying that with God’s guidance, the State witnessed quantum leap in major sectors of the economy.

The Governor said: “Exactly a year ago, we were gathered here. Recall as part of my wishes, I had stated that despite the bleak economic outlook predicted in many quarters, Lagos State will grow in leaps and bounds and be prosperous.

“No doubt, God has been faithful. As we covert greater prosperity for all of us here and the State this year, we are confident that our God will never fail us. Lagos State will witness pleasant surprises in every sector in 2017. We are determined and God willing, we shall continue to achieve an all-inclusive progress and prosperity in the State.

While alluding to the significance of this year’s Thanksgiving Service which coincided with the State’s Golden Jubilee Anniversary, Governor Ambode said the God has indeed been faithful to the State in the past years, and as such it was important to show appreciation and supplication to God.

He said the service, irrespective of religious affiliation, also offered the opportunity to reaffirm faith in God and belief in His grace to make the hopes and aspirations for the Year become a reality.

“We believe that as we are gathered this evening to praise Him and glorify His Holy name, new doors and windows of opportunities shall be opened for us as individuals, as a State and a Nation.

“We want to officially welcome all other States and Governors to the Year 2017. We join hands together as Lagosians to wish Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, who had once worshipped here with us in the past, Happy New Year, and pray that God will honour him as he leads the ship of the nation to its rightful destination,” he said.

Besides, Governor Ambode, who thanked spiritual leaders for their ceaseless prayers and wise counsel, prayed for God’s anointing to continually flow in their lives, while urging Nigerians to continue to pray for the State, the country and leaders in the country, especially to ensure a nation that all would be proud of.

In his sermon, General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye said for people to experience a new beginning, they must be willing to follow God completely and serve Him in truth and spirit.

While drawing his text from Exodus 3:1-8, Genesis 18:1-8 and Mark 10:46-52 among others, Pastor Adeboye also admonished Nigerians to leave the camp of the devil and embrace God’s camp, as well as accept the invitation of God.

The service also featured music ministrations, bible readings and prayers for the State Governor and his family, the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary as well as for the Federal, State and Local Government parastatals.

Politics / Senator Akume Denies Ownership Of Hotel Sealed By FIRS by jaybossYBNL(m): 6:25pm On Aug 22, 2016
HAF Haven Hotel shut by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) last week for tax default is not owned by Senator George Akume, his aide said in a press statement.

FIRS, in a statement last week, attributed the ownership of the hotel to the former Benue State governor.

A statement released by Mrs Becky Orpin, Special adviser to Senator Akume, said: "We wish to make it clear that HAF Haven Hotel is not owned by Senator Akume but by Hope Alive Foundation (HAF), an independent action-oriented Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). It was incorporated in 2002 with a board of directors

"Senator Akume, given his humanitarian disposition to the disadvantaged, only identifies with the ideals for which HAF was incorporated.

"Hope Alive Foundation is a charitable non-profit foundation that takes care of widows, orphans and the physically-challenged in Benue State. It feeds and provides homes and workable skills to the underprivileged, and awards scholarships to indigent students.

"Unlike most foundations that rely on donations, HAF funds its humanitarian activities through revenue generated from such ventures as HAF Haven Hotel. Therefore, the hotel is definitively not the property of Senator Akume but of HAF

"Apart from taking care of the underserved in Benue, HAF Haven Hotel is a law abiding corporate body that diligently adheres to tax regulations. We have not defaulted on payments as we have always endeavoured to make minimum payments.

"For instance, between 2011 to 2014, HAF Haven Hotel has paid a cumulative N1.1 million in taxes and N745,000, full payment, for the year 2014/15.

"Currently, HAF Haven Hotel has a minor dispute with FIRS over tax assessments carried out on the hotel. Our auditors detected duplications in the assessments and the tax comptroller in Makurdi was alerted.

"Unfortunately, the issues raised were yet to be resolved when the FIRS team from the headquarters swooped in and summarily closed down the hotel, without listening to HAF's petition.

"However, the hotel will work with FIRS to resolve this issue professionally. We believe that reason will prevail and the hotel will be reopened".

Agriculture / FG Signs Mou On Dairy Production And Development (photos) by jaybossYBNL(m): 6:07pm On Aug 18, 2016
The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the dairy sector in Nigeria.

Signing the MoU with one of the world’s largest dairy companies – Arla Foods in Abuja, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – Chief Audu Ogbeh stated that the Nigerian Government in line with its plan on food security, welcomes companies and initiatives that would help in the development of the agricultural sector.

According to the Minister, “the population of the country is growing so fast with an increasing population of children malnourished. With the Federal Government’s school feeding programme, we dream of a day, where every Nigerian child has a pack of milk per day to improve their health. We are creating an enabling environment in the cattle breeding programme, where a poor widow in the village can own four or five cows to milk and have the facility to preserve them for local consumption. If a family has three or four cows, this can keep poverty away from them because rural poverty is a serious matter”.

Chief Ogbeh assured that Nigeria has a huge market with endless opportunities, adding: “We look forward to seeing a transmission of your knowledge to our farmers. Let this be a synergy and not just a business. The cows are not properly taken care of so the quality and quantity of milk, beef they produce is low and we want this to change”.

Speaking earlier, the Senior Vice President and Head of Arla Foods for Sub-Saharan African – Mr Steen Hadsbjerg explained that Nigeria was chosen due to its vast potentials.

“We are here to build a sustainable dairy industry in Nigeria Arla is more than 130 years old and we have been in Nigeria for more than 30 years operating under the name of Dano, one of our global brand. By signing this MoU, we are committed to the proper development of the dairy sector and the technical know-how to farmers in Nigeria.

“We will assist to develop the supply chain; we will work to ensure quality delivery of milk produced here to meet international standards. We will work with international NGOs and use our connections in the EU to support the Nigerian government in this project. We will talk and work with the farmers directly based on local milk and we are aiming to train about 200 farmers in the first year” he added.

Two protesting pensioners of Benue State today slumped right inside the Government House in Makurdi while insisting Governor Samuel Ortom must pay them.

But the leader of the concerned pensioner, Mr. Kyado said no week passes without four to five pensioners dying in penury across the 23 local government areas of the state due to hardship arising from hunger, disease and starvation.

The victims who could be in their early seventies were amongst hundreds of pensioners who had storm Governor's office for a peaceful protest staged by hundreds of pensioners to press home their over eleven months arrears owed them by the state government.

The eleven months being owed according to the pensioners covers November 2014 to April 2015 the period they said the government failed to address using the N28 billion bailout funds doled to the state by the federal government to tackle backlog of salaries owed state workers.

Nairaland / General / Dino Melaye Mocks Oshiomhole For Marrying Foreign Wife by jaybossYBNL(m): 7:47am On Mar 03, 2016
Senator Dino Melaye, Chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory who is from Kogi state on Wednesday while contributing to a motion for the need to patronise Made In Nigeria products blasted Edo state governor Adams Oshiomhole for remarrying a foreign woman when we have abundant ladies in Nigeria.

Melaye stood up to contribute to the motion by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, which advocated the need to patronise products made in Nigeria and said "Nigerians should not emulate the governor whom he said opted not to “patronise ‘Made-in-Nigeria women’ but a foreign one”.

Melaye was referring to Iara, the wife of Oshiomhole, whom he married from Cape Verde in the Southern African region.

He, therefore, advised Nigerians not to only patronise goods made in Nigeria, but also made-in-Nigeria women.

He said, “I want to celebrate the ‘Made-in-Nigeria senator’ for bringing up this motion. In considering goods produced in Nigeria, we must look at the enabling factors that will necessitate the goods.

“It is beyond having one made in Nigeria attire and having over 70 designers’ attires in your wardrobe. We must reduce the allocation for made-in-Nigeria goods and services to the basics.

“What are those factors limiting the production of these goods? We must tackle them. We must also begin to look at our legislation, then we will begin to talk about made-in-Nigeria goods.

“We will also move in order to encourage made-in-Nigeria products and begin to talk about made-in-Nigeria women.

“Apologies to my uncle, the Governor of Edo State, we must as a people stop paying dowries in dollars and pounds. It is time for my colleagues here to become born again.”
