Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has challenged US President Barack Obama by asking his hand in marriage. His comment comes at the back of the legalization of gay marriage in the US by the Supreme Court. During Mugabe's weekly radio interview with Zimbabwe’s national radio last Saturday, he said: “I’ve just concluded since President Obama endorses the same-sex marriage, advocates homosexual people and enjoys an attractive countenance thus if it becomes necessary , I shall travel to Washington, D.C. , get down on my knee and ask Obama’s hand. I can’t understand how these people dare to defy Christ’s explicit orders as our Lord prohibited mankind from sodomy.'' Mugabe said the American Government is run by pervert, Satan-worshipers who insult the Great American nation. He reportedly added "That the American tradition and heritage was based on lofty Christian principles, but to the detriment of this great nation, America’s corrupt political elite is acting according to their diabolic whims". Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage, the first ever from a sitting president, came amid growing pressure for the president to clarify his previously muddled opinion, as two senior members of his administration announced personal support for gay marriage and a day after voters in North Carolina approved a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman. http://www.mixtgist.com/2015/07/us-gay-marriage-zimbabwean-president.html |

THERE was tension in Anambra State yesterday, following reports that 47 Boko Haram suspects have been relocated to Ekwulobia Prisons in Aguata Local Government Area of the state. When the rumour of the alleged relocation broke out weekend, hundreds of youths stormed the streets and all markets in the state were shut in protest. A visit to Ekwulobia Prisons, however, did not show any sign that new inmates were brought there and the prisons officials said they had not received any signal to that effect. However, Vanguard gathered last night that the 47 Boko Haram prisoners were brought to Ekwulobia prisons in the dead of the night of Sunday, June 28, amid tight security. Yesterday, agitated people in various parts of the state were seen making telephone calls and Ekwulobia, the fourth largest city in the state, has been getting renewed attention, with those whose relations are serving sentences in the medium security prison expressing worry over the development, which they said would put their relations there at great risk, in view of the antecedents of Boko Haram suspects. The state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Uju Nwogu, could not confirm the development, even as she said Governor Willie Obiano had gone to Abuja to meet President Muhammadu Buhari over the matter. Following the governor’s absence, the weekly state executive council meeting, which holds every Monday, could not hold yesterday. Obiano’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. James Eze, had in a statement, exonerated the governor from the relocation arrangement. Eze said further that Governor Obiano’s efforts to establish understanding and achieve speedy and peaceful resolution of the matter went to the highest authorities, adding that he was given assurances that the matter would be looked into, with a view to resolving it. There were also feelers that traders in the commercial town of Onitsha have vowed to continue their protest, following alleged relocation of the prisoners from the Northern part of the country to Ekwulobia Prisons. http://www.mixtgist.com/2015/06/panic-in-anambra-as-47-boko-haram-members-arrives-ekwulobia-prison.html |
OWERRI—Imo State police command has uncovered a baby factory at Mbutu, Isiala Ngwa South local government area of Abia State, and arrested the proprietor, Chief Emmanuel Eke. The police similarly picked up some young pregnant ladies, including a deaf and dumb, from the filthy Isiala Ngwa South baby factory. Briefing journalists in Owerri after the successful operation, the Police Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, gave the name of the pregnant deaf and dumb lady as Miss Blessing Nwabeke. “The pregnant deaf and dumb lady, who could not mention her age and address was however identified as Miss Blessing Nwabeke,” the PPRO said. According to Mr. Enwerem, other expectant mothers picked up in the baby factory include 23-year-old Miss Nkasiobi Uchenna from Nkwuegwu Umuahia, Miss Oluchi Victor, 25, from Isiala Ngwa, and Miss Ela David, 24, from Isoko in Delta State. Giving a graphic account of how the police stumbled on the baby factory and child-trafficking syndicate, the PPRO said Chief Eke was arrested following a credible tip off. “A pregnant 20-year-old Miss Ibuchi Okafor from Ihioma, Orlu local government area of Imo State, disappeared from their family home and after spending some time in an undisclosed place, she returned without the expected baby. This development generated a lot of curiosity in the family,” the PPRO recounted. Suspecting that Ibuchi must have sold her baby, the family reported the matter to the police and on interrogation, the girl told her interrogators that she was successfully delivered of a baby boy at the home of Chief Eke, who later sold the baby to an unknown buyer for N500,000. “As a follow up, operatives of the Police Command stormed the home of Chief Emmanuel Eke where other pregnant ladies believed to be producing babies for sale were arrested,” the PPRO said. http://www.mixtgist.com/2015/06/police-discovers-baby-factory-in-imo.html |

Have you watched popstar, David Adeleke aka Davido’s latest video, ‘Fans Mi’ featuring American rapper, Meek Mill? Then you will agree that no child under the age of 18 should see it. Even though music videos have since been reduced to nothing more than scantily-dressed ladies shaking their butts, and the glorification of drunkenness, Davido’s video pushes the boundary of decency. From the first view, one’s eyes are assailed by lots of cash displayed on a table with several types of guns. As if that is not bad enough, nearly naked girls are spotted dancing raunchily in almost every scene of the video. The story-line of the video is worse. Davido tries to seal a deal with a drug dealer to supply cocaine while the dealer hands him cases of dollars for the transaction. Davido then goes back to his mansion where he can be seen aided by the brassieres-and-panties flaunting ladies preparing the cocaine. It is not until the end of the video that we get to see that the cocaine Davido delivered to the drug dealer was only semovita (a local Nigerian food). We must ask though: what is he trying to teach his fans who are largely made up of impressionable youths? That it is okay to engage in the sale of illicit drugs to make money? Or that guns are now suddenly ‘cool’ toys to have? www.mixtgist.com/2015/06/why-you-should-never-listen-to-davido-again.html |
Alhaji Abubakar Yabo, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, on Saturday in Sokoto expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari would implement populist programmes and policies. He said such programmes would redirect the energies of the youths for national development and address social vices. Yabo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) tha the intervention of Buhari on the political scene would soon put an end to mass unemployment, kidnapping, insurgency, armed robbery and other crimes. “Buhari has the political will to make things better for Nigerians,’’ he said. The APC chieftain believed that focusing on youths would address the various challenged facing them. “The people-oriented programmes that will soon be unfolded by the president has become necessary as the country has a large percentage of unemployed youths.’’ Yabo believed that the potential of the nation’s future leaders should be harnessed for the development of democracy and the economy. He called for prayers for God’s intervention in the socio-economic and political spheres of the country. “Prayers and support of Nigerians will ensure peaceful implementation of the government programmes at all levels. “Buhari has the experience and knowledge to make things better for Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religious and political differences.’’ www.mixtgist.com/2015/06/buhari-t-put-an-end-to-insurgency-and-unemployment.html |

Man sentenced to jail A Connecticut man convicted of breaking his 4-month-old daughter's arms, legs and ribs was sentenced to eight years in prison on Wednesday June 24th, and ordered to take anger management classes and undergo a complete mental evaluation."You are either evil and a monster or very, very ill,” the trial judge Maria Kahn told the man, Morice Wilkerson, 26, during a hearing in Superior Court in Bridgeport. Wilkerson broke down in tears as he was removed from the courtroom, and relatives also wailed and sobbed. Wilkerson was convicted last month of third degree assault & risk of injury to a minor, after bringing the infant to a hospital in 2012 with all four limbs and two ribs broken. He and his wife, Stephanie Kearney, had attempted to explain their daughter's multiple injuries by saying they were the results of various accidents, like rolling over while asleep, and genetic fragility. Kearney, 25, was found not guilty of any crimes. Before he was sentenced, Wilkerson pleaded with the judge for leniency, saying "I love my family and I would never do anything to hurt them." Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Margaret Kelley urged a significant sentence, arguing the girl's injuries could cause a crooked leg and stunted growth. "This is one of the most troubling cases the state has ever prosecuted because of the severity of the injuries to such a young child," Kelley told the judge. The judge sentenced Wilkerson to 10 years, with two years suspended. The girl is now in the custody of the Department of Children and Families and will be adopted. http://www.mixtgist.com/2015/06/man-sentenced-to-8-years-jail-term-for.html |

Lawmakers at the Benue State House of Assembly, north-central Nigeria, clashed on Tuesday following a letter addressed to the Speaker by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to appoint majority leader for the. The APC and the Peoples Democratic Party’s free for all fight at plenary started when the Speaker of the Benue Assembly, Mr Terkimbi Kyange, read the APC’s letter in which it claimed majority after a lawmaker of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected into its fold, which gave it a marginal lead over the PDP. Normal legislative activities had began peacefully with the adoption of proceedings without any sign of an impending pandemonium before the chamber became a boxing ring minutes later. The lawmaker in the eye of the storm, Mr Nick Eworo, hinged his defection on his expulsion from the PDP at the local government level. The PDP lawmakers quickly arrested the reading of the letter via a motion to declare the seat of Mr Eworo vacant in line with Section 190 of the 1999 constitution. Points of order for and against the motion of the PDP lawmakers to declare Mr Eworo’s seat vacant flew from all directions. Mr Kyange then overruled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers’ motion, declining the request to declare the said member’s seat vacant. The APC-PDP clash soon degenerated into a free for all physical combat and fighting, while some female lawmakers scampered for safety after heated argument with other colleagues. The Sergeant At-Arm quickly removed the mace while fighting was going on. However, a legislator, Tema Kester, on behalf of the PDP lawmakers vowed to resist the move which they described as a rape on the constitution. While the Speaker hurriedly adjourned sitting till Thursday, activities at the State’s Assembly continued without any sign of prior civil disturbances. CLICK TO WATCH VIDEO

A fresh crisis rocks the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Ayo Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, has rejected Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state as chairman of the party’s Governors’ Forum. Governor Fayose has allegedly rallied some other governors in the party to make a stand against Mimiko’s emergence. The Nation reports that the governor has petitioned the PDP national leadership to intervene before the matter degenerates into a full-blown crisis. Meanwhile, a source at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja confirmed the receipt of the petition against Mimiko and added that the PDP National Working Committee would be meeting the party’s governors today to resolve the crisis. According to the dissatisfied governors, the choice of Mimiko did not follow due process on grounds that the Ondo state governor defected to the PDP only last year. Mimiko was chosen the chairman of the Forum last week at the meeting of the PDP governors in Abuja, where only six out of 13 party’s governors and two deputies were present. http://www.mixtgist.com/2015/06/pdp-in-crisis-as-fayose-rejects-mimiko-as-gov-forum-chairman.html |
A pan-Igbo group based in the United Kingdom, Concerned Diaspora Enugu West, has urged the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, to step down immediately. The group said in a statement by its convener, Mr. Ignatius Ozoilo, that Ekweremadu had been the Deputy Senate President since 2007 but had failed to make a mark in the Senate. The group also berated Ekweremadu for saying that his emergence as the Deputy Senate President despite being in the opposition would be beneficial to the people of the South-East. The statement read, “We have been deeply worried about the outcome of the leadership contest in the Senate on June 9 in which Senator Ekweremadu, representing Enugu-West senatorial district, put himself forward for the post of the Deputy Senate President “While we concede that the interest to become part of the leadership of the National Assembly is a legitimate aspiration, we are of the view that it is not a right political decision for Senator Ekweremadu to become and remain the Deputy Senate President of the 8th Assembly. “Senator Ekweremadu held on as Deputy Senate President for eight years and did so as a member of the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party. He had ample opportunity to use that position to improve the political, economic and social prospects of the country but regrettably he failed to demonstrate any particular sense of legislative acumen for the benefit of his constituency in particular and Nigeria in general.” The group said Ekweremadu should not have run for Deputy Senate President but should have toed the path of honour like Mr. Leo Ogor who refused the position of Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives when he was offered the position. The group said Ekweremadu’s emergence as the Deputy Senate President was a great disservice to Nigerians because the people of Nigeria wanted a change and Ekweremadu represents the old regime. The group said there was nothing exciting about the South-East producing the Deputy Senate President because the zone was not given any special consideration from 1999 to 2007 when it produced five Senate Presidents. http://www.mixtgist.com/2015/06/igbo-asks-ekweremadu-to-step-down.html |

While Held by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport (NAA), Abuja, 39-year-old suspected drug trafficker, Celestine Ikechukwu Okonkwo, excreted 70 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.326kg shortly on arrival from Brazil. NDLEA Commander at Abuja Airport, Mr. Hamisu Lawan, who disclosed this yesterday, said that the suspect tested positive for cocaine ingestion. According to Hamisu, “the suspect tested positive to drug ingestion while returning from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He later excreted 70 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.326kg.” Narrating his ordeal in the hands of drug barons, who sponsored his trip to Brazil under the guise of white collar job, the suspect who sells used clothes at Idumota market, said that he was promised mouth-watering job opportunities here in Nigeria. He however said that he was made to suffer untold hardship before being used in smuggling cocaine. Confessing, Celestine said that he was a happy man until the drug barons approached him with a promise of better job abroad. According to him, “I was in my shop at Idumota market where I sell used clothes. I will never forget the day a young man came to my shop to buy shirt. He told me he is from Anambra and that he lives in Brazil. He also promised to help me with a good job opportunity over there. Honestly, I was excited and felt it was answer to my age long prayer. He collected my phone number and left. This was how it all started.” Narrating his ordeal further, he stated that after three months, the man whose identity he did not mention called him that he was back to Nigeria. In his words, “he prepared my international passport and also secured a visa for me. Then he told me to get set to travel anytime. Few weeks later, he brought my ticket and I travelled to Brazil in January 2015. He gave me the name of the hotel where I will stay pending when he will get me a job. I was eventually abandoned to suffer. When I exhausted my money, I began to sleep in a church. I also began to work for a Nigerian woman who owns a restaurant in order not to starve to death”. The suspect also claimed that drug trafficking was not originally discussed with him before he left Nigeria. According to him, “Nobody discussed drug trafficking with me while in Nigeria. It was after I had lived in the church for some months that my sponsor located me in Sau Paulo. I was told that there is no free lunch in Brazil and that I have suffered and experienced difficult life in Brazil. This was the point they introduced drug trafficking as the only way out. They said that was what people do to make money. It took me about seven hours to swallow 70 wraps of cocaine. I was inexperienced because it was my first time. They promised to pay me N400,000 when I get to Nigeria.” http://mixtgist.com/man-excretes-70-wraps-of-cocaine-in-ndlea-net/
