European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Chelsea'sfrank Lampard Is The Greatest Midfielder Of His Generation by jayjam(m): 10:30am On Jan 16, 2013
Statistics have a mind-boggling effect on today's game. They sometimes have the habit in failing to tell us the whole story of the game, and can even lay foundations for the irrational theories or beliefs people throw about these days.
Just take a look back at last seasons Champions League final. Chelsea finally won the holy grail in the eyes of their Russian owner, but the stats tell a completely different story. According to the BBC, Bayern Munich had a staggering 34 shotswith 21 on target, apposed to Chelsea's 9. The Blues committed 26 fouls compared to Bayern Munich's 11, suggesting that theywere being overrun and dominated by the German's slick, passing play. The Germans were clearly dominant in Chelea's defensive third, winning themselves 20 corners compared to Chelsea's 1. Statistics show you that Bayern Munich dominated the Champions League Final, but Chelsea only needed that one corner to level the tie, and the rest is history.
However, one thing statistics do is define the sort of career a player had. Stats separate the good from the great, and the great from the best.
I recently stumbled across a photo which showed me career stats of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Xavi Hernandez - what I saw was baffling. I researched these stats on Wikipedia, BBC and ESPN.netto see how legitimate this data was. The information on the photo wasa bit off, but what I came across was astonishing.
The stats below show the career appearances, goals and assists chart from who I believe are the five greatest midfielders of this generation. As mentioned above, these stats were all attained from my own research, and have been mentioned in this article dueto their reliability.
Name Age Club Appearances Goals Assists
Paul Scholes 38 Manchester United 713 155 31
Xavi Hernandez 32 Barcelona 655 79 82
Steven Gerrard 32 Liverpool 613 154 100
Frank Lampard 34 Chelsea 581 194 130
Andres Iniesta 28 Barcelona 482 49 61
Topping the charts is Frank Lampard. Just six goals shy of 200 for Chelsea and with 130 assists for the Blues, statistically Frank Lampard is the most proficient, creative and effective midfielder of his generation.
His career stats are unbelievable. He should be cherished by Chelsea, not thrown to one side due to his age. Manchester Unitedboss Sir Alex Ferguson has used Paul Scholes[38] and Ryan Giggs[39] to maximum effect over the years, even convincing the former to come out of retirement. But something tells me that Frank Lampard can still play week in, week out at the top level. Is that with Chelsea? I don't think so.
Frank is and always will be a Chelsea and Premier League legend, and although his affectionto Chelsea Football Club is still as strong as ever, it may be in Frank's best wishes to pack his bags and move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
Lampard would be welcomed at any top club, and Manchester United have been tipped to pounce for the attacking midfielder. Being linked with Manchester United in the twilight of his career is testament to Lampard's loyalty, dedication and professionalism.
At the age of 34 and still going strong, Frank Lampard has further cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players of his generation with his performances this season. Deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea Football Club, Frank willbe able join a new club in the summer, on a free.
Whoever signs Frank Lampard will be getting a world-class, goal-scoring professional who justwants to carry on playing football. This season he is provingChelsea Football Club that despitebeing the age of 34, he still has plenty to offer.Source:http://www.football.co.uk/chelsea/chelsea_s_frank_lampard_is_the_greatest_midfielder_of_his_generation__rss3665837.shtml

Sports / Eagles Defeat Farense 5-0 In Final Warm Up by jayjam(m): 7:52pm On Jan 15, 2013
Nigeria line up
The Super Eagles ended their training camp in Faro, Portugal, in style on Tuesday when they trounced Portuguese second division side Farense 5-0 in a game described by coach Stephen Keshi as dress rehearsal for the team’s opening Africa Cup of Nations game against Burkina Faso on January 21.

The match played at the Browns Sports and Leisure Club in Faro was barely five minutes old when right back Efe Ambrose’s surging run into the danger area of the Portuguese was met with a vicious hacking. Centre referee Luis Costa wasted no time in pointing to the spot. Chelsea star John Mikel Obi stepped in to coolly slot home the opener.

Farense made things difficult for the Eagles as Senegalese born striker, Sone Diop, Falardo and danger man Fabio Texeira attacked sporadically in search of an equalizer that never came till the end of the first half. The Eagles on the other hand had plenty of chances to have buried the game in the first but Nosa Igiebor hit the cross bar thrice, Mikel followed suit with a fiery shot that also hit the bar and Emmanuel Emenike also missed a sitter.

In the second half Keshi made sweeping changes. Kenneth Omeruo was brought on for Joseph Yobo, Juwon Oshaniwa for Elderson Echejile, Ogenyi Onazi for Mikel, Sunday Mba for Igiebor, Obiorah Nwankwo for Fegor Ogude, Ikechukwu Uche for Brown Ideye, Gabriel Reuben for Ambrose mid-way into the half, same as Vincent Enyeama who was replaced by Chigozie Agbim.

There was no immediate impact with the changes until the 75th minute when Emenike’s run down the left wing of the pitch, off a quick throw by Agbim, was clinically finished off by Ikechukwu Uche for one of his three goals of the evening.

Uche was to score another in the 80th minute after nice footwork by Ejike Uzoenyi left him face to face with goalie Sergio Serrar. He blasted into the roof of the net. He completed his hat trick for the evening after a fine interchange of passes between him, Onazi and Ejike.

Just as the referee was about blasting the final whistle, Ejike was to set up Emenike for the final goal for a comprehensive whitewash of the Farense side. The referee did not allow for a restart after the fifth goal.

The Nigerian side will depart Faro by 12:30 Portuguese time for Lisbon from where the team will connect a flight to Paris, France and from there to Johannesburg, South Africa. The team is expected in Nelspruit, venue of two of its first two group games on Thursday morning.

Nigeria will start their Afcon campaign in Group C against Burkina Faso on January 21.Source:http://m.goal.com/x/en-ng/news/3674552

In the military regime, the freedom of information bill/ war cannot see the light of the day, talk less of freedom of expression.
Human rights violation nko?
And you already have that now,how has our criticism affected the present day's politics where Ministers found culpable of one malpratcice or the other are being left unsacked even in the face of financial wrecklessness

Politics / Democratic Or Military Rule;which Has Been Better by jayjam(m): 3:28pm On Jan 14, 2013
Am saddened by the fact that Nigeria has retrogressed in recent years, once heard our Naira was more valuable than the Dollar during d military regimes, corruption wasn't as bad as it is now when Buhari showed commitment to deal with it by promulgating laws that would ensure corrupt politicos rot in jail;such was it then, when Pa Adekunle Ajasin of d old Ondo state was a subject of a 64-jailterm for corrupt practices.Nevertheless,Nigerians clamoured for a democratic governance, that brought an abrupt end to the junta approach the Militias were employing. So far so good which would u rate"paid off better"within the jungular Nigeria context
