NAIRALAND OAU PAST BIGBOYS WORDSOAU should be in the top 10.
Afterall OAU is the first
African University to do
Pharmacy, Chemical
Engineering and even
Electrical & Electronics. We should be there. We get
mouth pass any Nigerian
University.
The only let down is the
absence of neat and really
big hostel that can accommodate not less than
30,000 students especially
foreign students. That 's a
normal international
standard .
Our current hostel is not well taken care of. Though it
can house about 12,000
students and its very cheap
(N2590 or $20) per session,
it's not good enough. The
lecture theatres and rooms is the best in Nigeria. Every
hall is equipped with 2
plasma TV and A computer/
projector to aid learning. No
hall sits anything less than
500 students and there are up to 20 of them. OAU
currently have the best ICT
facility in any Nigerian
University. They currently
have their own server and
run their own iLAB - the first to achieve it. Internet
facilities are installed
everywhere on
campus.
If it 's not for Nigeria factor,
OAU would have achieved it's full potentials. This ranking is
merely suggesting that.

Nairalane: wink @jayjam, dont be carried away by that ranking. It is not the academic or research ranking. Tis just the webometrics( the quality and quatity of the website. So, rejoice and playsafe. Research wise, OAU is 2nd in Nigeria and 10th in Africa. More of this ranking stat lat'ron.
So,you mean academic-wise OAU is lagging behind its peers in the comity of universities?mind you the institution recently won an award as the best research institution in W/afriqué.OAU IS IN A LEAGUE OF ITS OWN#TEAM ONDO

Politics / SA Tycoon Donates Half His Wealth by jayjam(m): 7:25pm On Jan 31, 2013
Born in Soweto, Patrice Motsepe is South Africa's first and only black billionaire
South Africa's richest black man, Patrice Motsepe, has announced he is giving away half his wealth to improve the lives of the poor.
The mining magnate said the money would be handled by theMotsepe Foundation to addresseducation and health issues.
He said he was inspired by the word's two wealthiest men, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, who are encouraging billionaires to donate to charity.
Mr Motsepe has a net worth of$2.65bn (£1.67bn), Forbes' rich list estimates.
'Part of our culture'
Born in the Soweto township, he is a lawyer by training and South Africa's first and only black billionaire.
He founded the publicly traded mining conglomerate, African Rainbow Minerals, which has interests in platinum, gold, coal and other minerals.
He made most of his mining fortune through the government's black economic empowerment policy, which mandates that mining companies be at least 26% black-owned, says the BBC's Pumza Fihlani in Johannesburg.
Patrice Motsepe owns the Mamelodi Sundowns football club
The businessman also owns Pretoria-based football club Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mr Motsepe made the announcement at an event in Johannesburg, where on a live video link Microsoft founder Mr Gates praised his decision.
He said he was also going to join the The Giving Pledge , acampaign started by Mr Gates and investor Mr Buffet in 2010.So far more than 70 billionaireshave signed up to it.
"I decided quite some time ago to give at least half of the funds generated by our family assets to uplift poor and otherdisadvantaged and marginalisedSouth Africans but was also duty-bound and committed to ensuring that it would be done in a way that protects the interests and retains the confidence of our shareholders and investors," Mr Motsepe said in a statement .
Mr Motsepe said he was also inspired by the spirit of"ubuntu" - an African belief system which translates as "I am because you are", meaning individuals need other people tobe fulfilled.
"South Africans are caring, compassionate and loving people. It has always been partof our culture and tradition to assist and care for less fortunate and marginalised members of our communities. This culture is also embodied in the spirit and tradition of ubuntu/botho," he said.
His wife Precious Motsepe told the BBC that the move would help counter the impression that Africa is always waiting foroutside help.
"Yes we've got challenges but we also have an opportunity, particularly in this century, to turn our continent around and portray Africa in a positive light," she said.
"We can begin to do things for ourselves that show the world that not only are we recipientsof aid but we can also begin to do things for ourselves."Source:http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-21259399

Religion / Who Really Rules The World? by jayjam(m): 5:43pm On Jan 31, 2013
Many people would answer the above question with a single word-God.But significantly, nowhere does the Bible say that either Jesus Christ or his Father are the real rulers of this world. On the contrary,Jesus said:"The ruler of the world is coming. And he has no hold on me."-John 12:31;14:30;16:11.So the ruler of this world is in opposition to Jesus.Who could this be? COULD SATAN HAVE OFFERED ALL THESE WORLD GOVERNMENTS IF THEY WERE NOT HIS?
