Kwankwaso to describe my decision to join the PDP as a betrayal, because I consulted widely. The truth is that, the APC does not have what it takes to change Nigeria, and any ambition driven by grievance, bitterness and vendetta can not be said to possess any element of change. And it is only a matter of time and Nigerians will know who truly loves them. I think the APC would have done well without the aggrieved PDP governors. With due respect to governor Amaechi, he is simply hungry forpower and do not know how to go about it, except with money. I may not know how to become the President of Nigeria, but I know it's never forthe highest bidder and it's never up for sale. It's an undeniable fact, that President Jonathan has done well for Nigeria in such a very short time, and I think he is the answer to the prayer of many Nigerians. I must not be President, but I have vowed to support anyone who shares the same vision I have for Nigeria. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, speaker of the house of representatives in preparation for the 2015 presidential election is set to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the leading opposition All Progressives Congress “in a matter of weeks”, a source has told TheCable.
It was also gathered that Tambuwal will defect just in time to indicate his interest in the presidential ticket of the APC.
According to the timetable for the 2015 elections drawn up by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), parties are scheduled to hold their presidential conventions in October.
Tambuwal gave the biggest hint yet about his planned defection on Sunday in his hometown, Tambuwal, Sokoto State, where he went to pick his permanent voter’s card.
Asked if he was going to defect to the APC, he replied in Hausa: “Kowa ni tsuntsu kukangidan su yake yi.”
Interpreted, it means “birds of the same feather flock together”.
He also said Nigeria can do “with good leadership”.
Although he is a member of the PDP, he was elected speaker in 2011 against the wish of the party leadership and has openly associated with the opposition without officially defecting.
The ruling party had zoned the position to the south-west, but the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (which is now part of APC) teamed up with pro-Tambuwal PDP lawmakers as well as those from other opposition parties to edge out the PDP candidate, Mrs Mulikat Akande-Adeola.
TheCable asked one of Tambuwal’s associates if he would vacate his position as a result of the defection, but he replied: “There is nothing in the law that says the speaker must come from the ruling party. It simply says someone with legislative experience should be elected speaker.”
In 1979, the speaker of the house of representatives, Hon. Edwin Ume-Ezeoke, was from the Nigeria Peoples Party (NPP), although the ruling party was the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
However, both NPP and NPN were in alliance, leading to a power-sharing agreement.
Tambuwal recently met with former President Olusegun Obasanjoas part of consultations over his ambition.
He had also been recommended for “higher office” by former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, in the past.
Posters announcing his presidential bid were all over Abuja a few weeks ago and although he denied having a hand in it, he did not rule out running.
Others thought to be interested in the presidential ticket of the APC include Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Senator Bukola Saraki

former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, has dumped the opposition All Progressives Congress [APC] and joined the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP].
Mr. Ribadu was the presidential candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria [ACN] in 2011 and until his defection today considered one of the presidential prospects of the APC in the 2015 presidential election.
A member of the executive committee of the PDP in Bako, Mr. Ribadu’s ward in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa state, told PREMIUM TIMES that the anti-corruption chief has been registered as a member of the party and given a party membership card.
The source asked not to be named because he was not authorised to disclose the development to journalists.
A PREMIUM TIMES reporthad detailed how the PDP leadership led by the party’s national chairman, Adamu Muazu, mounted pressure on Mr. Ribadu to join the party and be its candidate for the October 11 governorship election in Adamawa.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has already released a timetable for an election being organised to replace former Governor Murtala Nyako who was impeached by the State Assembly last month.
Already, Acting Governor Umaru Fintiri and Awwal Tukur, a son of former chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur, have picked the notice of intent form to seek the PDP governorship nomination forthe election. A former military administrator of Lagos state, Buba Marwa, has also indicated interest in running.
Effortsto speak with Mr. Ribadu or his spokesperson, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, were unsuccessful.
Both men’s mobile telephones phones were switched off when PREMIUMTIMES tried to reach them.
Mr. Ribadu is yet to publicly declare for the PDP although he has not refuted any of the reports linking him to the party.

Danladi Irmiya Kifasi, the man President Goodluck Jonathan just named as the new Head of Service of the Federation, had been indicted of corruption in 2000 and barred from holding public office, according to a government White Paper obtained by SaharaReporters.
Last Wednesday, Mr. Jonathan appointed Mr. Kifasi as the new head of Nigeria’s civil service following the retirement of Bukar Goni Aji, the immediate past Head of Service.
The position means that Mr. Kifasi is to oversee Nigeria’s civil service. The controversial appointee formerly worked as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
Several sources told SaharaReporters that Nigeria’s powerful Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, prevailed on President Jonathan to appoint Mr. Kifasi, despite his indictment on corruption.
An anti-corruption activist who helped provide information about Mr. Kifasi’s corrupt past said that his appointment provoked questions of credibility and highlighted Mr. Jonathan’s penchant for hobnobbing with corrupt elements.
The source wondered what kind of disconnect made it possible forthe president to elevate a man like Mr. Kifasi to the topmost post in the civil service despite the existence of a Government White Paper that declared Mr. Kifasi unfit forpublic office.
The White Paper arose from Mr. Kifasi’s involvement in a financial scandal at the Federal Superphosphate Fertilizer Company (FSFC) in Kaduna, capital of Kaduna State. In 2000, a panel of inquiry looked into a scandal that involved Mr. Kifasi, Awal Tukur, Jide Omokore, who is also close to President Jonathan, Ben Osuji, J.B. Ghumdia, J.O. Odu, and Fivatek Nigeria Limited. The panel investigated how the mentioned subjects defrauded the FSFC by making up costs, misappropriating funds, inflating the price of items, and tampering with the contract for the building of a sulfuric acid plant.
The investigation concluded that Mr. Kifasi, who was then the director of the FSFC, had given out freebags of fertilizerto officials in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. Mr. Kifasi also handed out four all-wheel-drive trucks ordered forthe plant to agriculture officials.
The White Paper, which heavily indicted both Mr. Kifasi and Mr. Omokore, made strong recommendations in relation to the former. The investigating commission recommended that Mr. Kifasi should refund the total amount of funds spent on overpricing of items during his tenure. Investigators found that the inflation of prices was deliberate and part of Mr. Kifasi’s calculated acts of fraud.
The investigators also found that Mr. Kifasi engaged in widespread maladministration, including the misapplication of funds, dishonesty and flagrant violation of financial regulations. The commission added that Mr. Kifasi’s acts of corruption led to huge losses and imposed a heavy debt burden on the FSFC.
Not only did the commission declare Mr. Kifasi unfit to hold public office, it also recommended his dismissal from the service. The Commission recommended that Mr. Kifasi should refund various sums, including N20,047,844.25 lost by the Company through his hyperinflation of prices forsulfuric acid. In addition, the commission ordered that Mr. Kifasi should refund N12,100,000 being the difference betweenfunds he claimed to have spent on a missing fire truck and water tanker and the correct price of the vehicle.
Mr. Kifasi had claimed that former President Umaru Yar’Adua had extended a presidential pardon to him, but there is no government gazette available to authenticate the claim.

Oyinye Lovelyn Anugwolu, the elder sister of late Justina, who works for Women NGO in Enugu, says her husband, sisters, parents are facing an unbearable stigma and public humiliation.
She told Saharareporters that people now treat family members as if they are all carriers of Ebola. Her husband she says has been sent on compulsory leave from work out of fearthat he is might have contracted the deadly Ebola disease.
“I haven’t seen her since October last year,” Mrs. Anugwolu says, “We are not in contact.”
Mrs. Anugwolu revealed that her sister did not spend her last days in Enugu but in Lagos where she died and was buried without the family. She also complained that her sister’s last days were gruesome. According to Mrs. Anugwolu, the government neglected her and other victims of Ebola. She told Saharareporters that her sister was denied water the day beforeshe died because healthcare workers were not willing to go in and serve her and others suffering in the quarantine center at Yaba area of Lagos.
“Wherever my sister is, her soul will be at peace forbringing her plight to illuminate and force the government to act against Ebola, ” she says.

The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has resigned as the Chairman, Board of Trustees and leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
In a resignation letter addressed to the National Secretary of the party and submitted in the party’s Abuja office on Friday, Obi said he was resigning as the leader and BoT chairman into which he was appointed in January 2014 by the National Executive Council of the Party.
Though he noted that his appointment as BoT chairman had yet to be ratified by a Convention of the party as stipulated by the constitution, Obi cited family and personal reasons for the resignation without giving details.
He, however, wished the party well in her future endeavors, adding that he remained an ordinary APGA member.
Widely acknowledged as the man who kept APGA alive over the past decade, Obi had recently been denied appointment as a minister by President Goodluck Jonathan because he refused to defect from APGA to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
When contacted, his media aide, Mr. Valentine Obienyem confirmed the development.
He said, “If you recall, my boss was nominated the Leader of the Party and the Chairman of her Board of Trustees in January. The nomination has yet to be ratified by a Convention of the Party, when he submitted his letter of resignation.
“Since the convention will take place next year, people have found it convenient to blame him for the woes of the party on the reason that he had failed to intervene on matters affecting the party, not knowing that without ratification of his nomination, he had no platform under which to intervene. “
Obienyem said that his boss remained an APGA member, and would continue to support the party at all times.
It will be recalled that APGA is presently witnessing mass exodus of her key members, who cite the appropriation of the party by one man as a reason.

according to an eyewitness, hit his
son, Clement Uwabie, a strong
member of the PDP.Uwabie’s son
explained to newsmen in the
hospital where he and other injured
persons were receiving treatment
that his father shot him because he
refused to join the APC.Some
youths were said to have
converged on Rumueprikom on
Wednesday in anticipation of the
visit of the State Governor, Mr.
Rotimi Amaechi, who had been on
local government
tour.Eyewitnesses said the youths
were beating drums when they
heard the sound of
gunshots.Angered by the
development, the youths made
moves to storm Chief Uwabie’s
residence, but were stopped by the
police.Confirming the incident, the
State Commissioner of Police, Mr.
Tunde Ogunsakin, who confirmed
the incident, said Uwabie shot his
son and six people.Ogunsakin
disclosed that Chief Uwabie had
been arrested by the police while
the gun used in shooting his
victims had been recovered.“Chief
Anthony Uwabie of Rumupirikom
was arrested after he shot six
people and his son. He was
arrested along with four others
whose identities are yet to be
confirmed.“The chief has
volunteered useful information to
the police and we have successfully
recovered a single-barreled gun
with expended cartridges, pellets
and live ammunition from the
aforementioned chief,” he
said.Ogunsakin added that the
matter had been transferred to the
State Anti-Robbery Squad for
further investigation.He, however,
warned politicians to shun
campaigns and political meetings
aimed at wrecking havoc on the
people of the state.“The Rivers
State Police Command is using this
medium to sound a note of warning
to various groups, public office
holders and corporate organizations
to desist from carrying out
activities that will disrupt the peace
and tranquility enjoyed in the
