Since this is from Songs of Solomon, and he is referring to the daughters of Jerusalem, his own people and same race, it would be difficult to assume he was referring to his race. The impression this leaves is that of someone referring to his tan as a result of being overtly exposed to sun burn. Not blackness in race but blackness in tan.
