BusinessRe: Freelancers Wanted! You Must Be Talented And Responsible! by jeftalene(m): 8:19pm On Dec 29, 2016
tenthranger:
Hi all freelancers,

I am tenthranger from Singapore. I am a true blue Singaporean, born and raise here in this sunny island. My purpose of writing this post is simple, I like to offer the most hard working and talented freelancers an opportunity to take up projects from Singapore.

There is a growing demand for SMEs to out-source their digital projects due to factors including:

High Labour cost. In Singapore, graphic designer for example will cost at least USD$1700, not including the compulsory insurance and CPF contribution of 13%.

Rental cost: If all projects are done in house, a company needs more space to house its employees, a typical 1000sqft office with proper amenities and convenience will amount to USD$2100 rent per month.

Competition: In a competitive environment, margins are narrower, in order to remain competitive, quality of work needs to go up and cost and time of producing it has to go down.

Therefore, to stay ahead of their game, businesses needs talented and responsible freelancers to be part of their team.

Believing that technology is a building block of every business, I started a technological company in Singapore 3 years ago, helping businesses with their Digital needs from web design and development, content creation, to multi-media design, mobile app development etc.

Take this discussion as a avenue to talk about your 3 proudest projects, whether your field is in animation, writing, music, photo-editing, graphic designs, web/mobile app design development, or any others that i have not mentioned, be proud to talk about them here, you might just land yourself an opportunity. All field of work welcome!

With a wide talent pool, it becomes easier to get more business coming in, but remember, integrity and responsibility are just some of the quality in a freelancer’s DNA.

*you will be asked to prove that you developed projects you mentioned.

Op, the type of quacks u need to run away from is @jeftalane or so. Lot of people knows nothing about construction n they claim they do. Imagine saying architects dnt supervise others, that's under statement. U need to learn more
Did u just mention me.

Pick up a copy of the National Building Code and study it. Your submissions here speaks volume of how ignorant u are. Btw I am a renowned Structural Engineer. My blog www.engineerosaz..com will help you upgrade your knowledge.

Obviously you have never worked on a project the proper way. Go and learn how the building team works. All other professionals are subordinates of the architect on a building site.
Lol. No construction professional is surbordinate to the Architect on a building project. All professionals play unique roles and are coordinated essentially by the Contractor or the Project Manager. Btw I'm a renowned Structural Engineer. Pls get informed. Pick up a copy of the National Building Code. It would help you a lot!

AfroKnight:
In a building project, the builder, structural engineer, mechanical engineer, etc, are themselves supervised by the architect. Ideally they should meet with him to get approval for payment or changes on site. He is the one who protects the interest of the client.

Don't make the mistake of listening to artisans instead of professionals. Artisans may bring cheaper ideas based on experience but no two sites / projects are the same and the seemingly expensive option given by the architect may save you extra cost and headache tomorrow.

Hire a builder and let him run all his changes / suggestions through the architect. The builder supervises the site and the architect manages the builder.
You are absolutely wrong. There is nothing like an architect supervises other professionals. An architect basically prepares architectural drawings and carry out periodic evaluation to check for consistency of the actual construction with the design, not necessarily supervisory services. Be informed. Compliments!

I'm back with another question this time. So I asked a builder to work on a full quotation for the foundation of the plan, I was amazed when he came back and told me the plan had more pillars than necessary (50 columns). He said the building doesn't need more than 32 by his calculations. He brought me an estimate for the plan as is, but said 50 pillars wasn't necessary.

The building is 12963 by 29250. I can take a picture of the plan and upload it, but I'd like to know if 50 is truly excessive, or if this is just builders trying to cut corners. As much as I'd like to build a solid structure, I wouldn't want to waste anything unnecessarily.

I appreciate any input. Merry Xmas.

Underpinning does exist, it is been used 2 support a structural member temtporary while repairs Is being done on d structural member... As a civil engineer, i am well informed of underpinning nd have even used it method(timber underpinning) in carrying out a repair on a faulty suspended slab. Although, I have not used or seen it method being used in nigeria to carry out repair or remedy of an entire building but I have seen it being utilize to carry out repiars on small piece of jobs, like failing slabs, columns or beams.
What i see in the picture u posted is shoring not necessarily underpinning. can u kindly enlighten me more?
PropertiesRe: Before You Demolish That Structure, Consider This by jeftalene(m):
idiagbo86:
This technique can go for building whose foundations haven't been affected .to repair a damage is usually more expensive than building a new house coz repair will always be done and can't guarantee a hundred percent accuracy. It's just best we don't omit any technical process during constructions.there is no maintanace work that can guarantee u getting a new structure ,it won't guarantee u won't have a reoccurring fracture as u had prior to the maintenance. In as much as u have a point here ,I still feel for the interest of those inhabiting the building we gat take the best procedure once a structure faults.
No, not very true! Underpinning can actually restore a building completely.

Unconfirmed reports (from a builder working close to the site) state that an attempt was made to underpin the Lekki Gardens structure which collapsed.

underpinning is not a silver bullet
Lol...not every professional can carry out underpinning. It's not the regular construction you are used to. It requires expertise in that particular area.

Ur website is quite detailed and helpful if someone is purchasing materials but wen it comes to certain part of labour it's abit confusing.

For example , most iron benders contract the job and will not accept day pay. In my case , how much is an ideal payment for the iron work on the foundation?
however , i
1. What is available on the website now is labour rates per day. We are still putting together the labour rate (on contract) per ton of rebars and so on. Always visit www.engineerosaz..com to check for updates. Its work in progress!

2. Genrally for labour rates, the cost normally hovers around 15% of the cost of materials. Considering the quote, the cost of all the materials for the Steel work is about 201600. It is therefore safe to conclude that the 30k would have being a better deal. However the extra 15k may have been included to cover supervisions, if supervision fee is not quoted separately.

3. From the quantity of reinforcement i see in the list, i could easily deduce that the land is perceived to be very stable at shallow depth and perhaps a traditional strip foundation with blocks and columns is to be adopted. If this is true, my advice is for you to also pad the strip. overtime, we have observed that buildings of this size (or load) built on this type of foundation begins to deflect and crack within the first 5-10 years after completion. it is therefore safer to also pad the strip. Here is a link on how to do this; http://engineerosaz..com/2016/10/on-foundations-it-is-safer-to-pad-strip_30.html
