Two Undergraduates of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and secondary school students were on Tuesday morning killed in an auto crash on Aroje/Abaa, LAUTECH, a road along old Olorin road, Ogbomoso.

Four other people, according to sources were said to be in a critical condition as a result of an injury sustained in the accident.

Sources informed Nigerian Tribune that the accident which involved a silver coloured Toyota Camry 2012 model with registration number Lagos GGE 850 FL, occurred around 8:00 am.

As soon as the news of the incident filtered into town, students began #BlackTuesdayinLAUTECH which then spread like wildfire.

Also, a picture of one of the victims, identified as ‘Dr Sleem’ appeared on social media accounts of some notable students with RIP inscription, attached with the photo of the accidental car.

According to the source, the Camry car rammed into the body of an articulated lorry parked by the roadside while manoeuvring hitting a secondary school student which he eventually crushed.

The driver of the car identified simply Timi is alive while another identified as Dr Sleem died on the spot.

The source said: “Timi who drove the car is alive while Seyi and Dr Sleem died on the spot, others were injured.”

One of the victims was said to be on suspension while the other one is a member of Students Representative Council of the institution.

Three of the injured victims, it was gathered are currently receiving treatment at the Institute’s teaching hospital while the fourth with the serious condition was taken to Ilorin, Kwara state for intensive care.

The car was a write off with both the windscreen and rear screen damaged while all the airbags in the car puffed out. Also, all the four doors were smashed as the car was yet to be taken away from the accident spot.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintended of Police (SP) Oluwagbemiga Fadeyi, confirmed that the incident occurred at about 7:00 am and that three people died on the spot.

According to Fadeyi, “at about 07:00hour, at Aroje town along Ilorin/Ognomoso old expressway, an incident involving one Toyota Camry with registration number GGE 850 FL is driven by one Akinloye Timileyin and three pedestrians.”

He stated further that the “said Toyota Camry crushed and killed on the spot three pedestrians under a stationary articulated vehicle body. Two of them were LAUTECH students while the other one was a secondary school student.”
