Catholic priests in Enugu, Eastern Nigeria, have protested the killing of their colleague by gunmen on Thursday. Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen shot dead a Catholic Priest, Rev. FR Paul Offu in Enugu on Thursday. The Priests of Catholic Diocese of Enugu on Friday afternoon marched towards Enugu State Government House over the gruesome murder of their colleague.
Ebullience: Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has condemned the killing of the Catholic Priest in charge of St. James, the Greater Parish, Ugbawka, in Enugu State, Rev Fr. Paul Offu.
Offu was reportedly shot dead by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Thursday evening.
Reacting, Kanu said such death would have been prevented if South-East governors had allowed the establishment of Biafra Secret Services, BSS, in the region.
Kanu, consequently, charged the people of the region to hold South-East governors responsible for such death.
He stated this in a statement signed by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful.
The statement reads: “Rev. Fr. Paul Offu, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu was shot dead last night by Fulani terrorists along Ihe/Agbudu road in Awgu L.G.A of Enugu State.
“His death is a direct consequence of a disgracefully timid and failed leadership model of acquiescence to the dictates of Fulani rulership in return for crumbs, instituted and perfected by the likes of Nnia Nwodo, Dave Umahi, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Willie Obiano, Okezie Ikpeazu and others in Igboland.
“Years of slavish submission to the whims of semi-literate Fulani cattle herders have reduced two successive generations of Igbo leadership since after the war to mere tools of the Fulani caliphate in their agenda of conquest and subjugation of the south.
“Nnia Nwodo, Dave Umahi, Rochas Okorocha, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Okezie Ikpeazu, Willie Obiano were the key men that connived with this same murderous Fulani terrorists killing us to today, to ban, proscribe, kill and clamp down on IPOB- the only hope of the people.
“Had Ohaneze Ndigbo, Igbo governors and their cohorts supported IPOB in the formation and deployment of BSS, this senseless loss of the life at the hands of marauding primitive Fulani savages from the far north would have been prevented.
“The family of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu and all besieged communities in Enugu and Ebonyi must hold Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Dave Umahi, Nnia Nwodo, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Aka Ikenga, Nzuko Umunna, South East Governors’ Forum and other mushroom Lagos-Abuja based Igbo/Fulani socio-cultural associations responsible for these preventable deaths in our land.
“They are the people that conspired and supervised Operation Python Dance 2 that killed, detained and disappeared many IPOB in the calculated effort of Caliphate to neutralise the credible threat IPOB posed for their invading Fulani terror herdsmen.”
Ecstasy154: The Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has issued a 20-day ultimatum to Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, and Fulani Nationality to leave the South-East and South-South immediately.
Linus Essien, BYNL Chief of Staff in Cross River State issued the warning in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST, on Friday.
Essien also warned of a “danger” if Miyetti Allah does not stop the Fulani Militia operating in the South.”
He also called on Miyetti Allah to end violence across the South-East and South-South or “face reprisal actions because BNYL is ready to revolt against the Islamist extremists.”
Essien said: “The attacks will lead to reprisals if by 20 days the Miyetti Allah fails to withdraw the Militia operating in the South.
“We have been following the situations especially States bordering the north like Cross River, Delta, Enugu and Ebonyi are easily penetrated, and if something urgent is not done they will take total control of our land and even invade Bakassi to conquer us as a people”.
“We are giving Miyetti Allah members matching orders if after 20 days northern leaders fail to withdraw killer herders from the South-south and Southeast.
“We have reasons to warn, because very soon we will be branded as terrorist group and we will not mind that, because self-defense is not a crime, any decisive actions we take is backed up by genuine reasons”.

He said that the meeting observed with deep concern the proliferation of dangerous arms in the state, stating that those in possession of illegal weapons have been given three days to submit them to the police “and after which anybody found with illegal weapons will be dealt with in accordance with the law”.
Balarabe revealed that in keeping with the outcome of the recent meeting of the South East Governors Forum, the Enugu State Government resolved at the emergency meeting to employ the services of Forest Guards and equally strengthen the services of the Neighborhood Watch groups in the state.
In his remark, Archbishop Chukwuma, condoled with the Catholic Church over the sad incident and appealed to the Inspector General of Police to increase the number of policemen in the state, saying “they are inadequate”.
The Archbishop insisted that “Enugu State is safe and secure for everybody”, stressing: “We are very much behind the government of Enugu State and we are commending the efforts of the governor and the state government in their efforts to make sure that lives and property are secured in Enugu State”.
According to him, “we are not afraid and nobody should think that he can get Enugu State into a state of violence or insecurity”.
Commending Gov. Ugwuanyi for his prompt action in summoning the meeting, Archbishop Chukwuma said: “I think the governor and the security agencies are out to make sure that anybody who goes after priests or human beings again in Enugu State will have himself or herself to blame”.
Speaking on behalf of the Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Nwankwo, stated that “the Catholic Diocese of Enugu wishes to thank the governor for his quick response to this sad incident that has taken place in this state”.
The priest said that “some people are trying to sabotage the efforts of the state government and the popular saying, which is true, that Enugu is safe”, noting that “we are sad”.
His words: “We have come here to dialogue with the governor and the state security agencies and I am very much impressed with the outcome of this security meeting and all the resolutions taken.
“I am particularly interested, that the Miyetti Allah and other Northern groups have been helping the governor in security issues and discussions. I am particularly impressed; however, we are asking them to do more because we don’t want to live in fear.
“So we thank everybody, we thank especially the governor. We know what he is going through, we know the pressure, and this state is the ideal state for peace in the whole nation, and we encourage him not to be distracted, relent or in any way give up his efforts. Rather, let these things happening encourage him to work harder. He is the father of the state and as he has given some directives today. I am impressed, and may God bless our Governor.
Earlier, the Enugu State Government had condoled with the family of the late Rev. Fr. Offu and the entire Catholic Diocese of Enugu over the painful death.
In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, the state government noted that the priest’s death “represents another ugly manifestation of security challenges in the entire country- East, West, North and South”.
The state government in the statement summoned a crucial meeting of all local vigilante and Neigbourhood Watch groups with the governor at the Government House, Enugu, on August 5 at 1pm.
It also notified the public of planned air surveillance by the Nigerian Air Force along Ihe –Agbudu axis, Awgu, Aninri, Nkanu East Local Government Areas and their environs and enjoined citizens not to panic in the course of the exercise. #amokelouis
