Politics18-Year-Old BUK Student, Mustapha, Invents Water-Powered Rocket In Kano (Pics) by JEWELofHELL666(op): 9:18am On Oct 08, 2022
Mustapha has also fabricated a car to be operated remotely by using a smartphone.

A computer engineering student of the Bayero University Kano (BUK) has fabricated and launched a water-powered rocket with a capacity of going up 300 to 1000 meters above sea level at a speed of 250 kilometres per hour.

Bilal Mustapha, a 100-level student, told Daily Trust that the rocket could be remotely controlled through GPS technology by either using a smartphone or a laptop computer and it could generate information as it had a digital camera connected to a memory card, adding that it also has a parachute attached to it to enable safe landing with a view to retrieving information recorded by the camera and stored in the memory card.

He said that the rocket, which is made up of plastic bottles and other materials sourced locally, was intentionally fabricated for remote sensing and could be used for surveillance purposes as well as data capture in difficult areas that cannot be accessed easily using a conventional approach.

Mustapha told our correspondent that he started constructing the water-powered rocket five years ago, in 2017, hoping to make anything that could fly but could not afford to make a remote-controlled aeroplane. For that reason, he started to look for something cheaper to make and that was when the idea of constructing the rocket was birthed.

“I love everything that can fly and therefore, I did a lot of research on YouTube. I saw people making things that were similar to what I intended to do and from there I was motivated. I continued to do more and more research. However, my biggest inspiration was Elan Musk – the founder and chief executive officer at SpaceX. I have read a lot about him. I follow updates from his company. I also follow him online on Twitter and Instagram.

“I started with a very small model and I kept improving on it until I made a bigger one with advanced technology. The first one I fabricated was very small, it could only fly about 15 meters but the last one can go as long as 300 meters. I launched it via both my smartphone and my laptop,” he said.

The 18-year-old Mustapha encountered a number of challenges before making a successful launch of the water-powered rocket. ]b]He said at the beginning, he did not know what would work and what would not until after a test. Secondly, he experienced multiple failures but kept trying until he got a reliable launching system.[/b]

Mustapha did not use a huge amount of money to buy the materials needed for the project. He said he bought them one at a time until he gathered everything. He saved to buy some of the materials, sometimes from his pocket money, while he was still in secondary school and if there was a need to buy something special, his father provided the money.

Mustapha, who finished from Yandutse College Kano before proceeding to the BUK, has also fabricated a car to be operated remotely by using a smartphone. He said the car, which has most features of the Mercedes E350, could move up to 20 meters distance via Bluetooth control, one kilometre by using a long-range antenna, and it could be controlled from anywhere and cover long distances via the Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

Mustapha is optimistic that with support and a conducive learning atmosphere, he would translate the innovation into conventional cars with advanced features like opening bonnets and operating the lighting system automatically.

The BUK Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has promised to honour Mustapha for his breakthrough in research and creativity.

The vice chancellor, according to the university Bulletin, said it was a thing of joy and pride that a student of the university, at a very young age, could invent such technology which if improved would have a positive impact on society.

Bilal’s father, Mustapha Abdulkarim, thanked Almighty Allah for his blessings, saying Bilal had been a very promising child. “Right from secondary school, he has been interested in making things work.”

“He watches a lot of videos on information technology, engineering, sciences and so on. He doesn’t waste his time; he is very dedicated and doesn’t give up. He used his pocket money to buy a lot of apparatus. At times, I got worried and ask him why he spends money he’s supposed to use to feed in school to buy all these equipment.

“He has built a lot of minor things in the house. In fact, he carries out all minor electrical repairs and that was how he started. I was with him at the field when he made the successful launch of the water-powered rocket. We try to give him all necessary support in achieving his aim,” he said.

Abdulkarim said the launch was an eye opener, and only Allah knows what he had planned for him, adding, “I am only praying to Allah to guide him to something that will be useful to him, to the country and to humanity in general.”

Mustapha’s hope during his stay at the university is to see more things that would encourage innovation in academia like annual innovation competitions within the university and between universities to make students competitive and to challenge them with problems for solutions.

But his ultimate ambition after graduation “is to make a bigger rocket that can go to space, come back and land successfully just like how Elan Musk did his own,” he said.

Politics2023: APC Governors Pass A Vote Of Confidence In Adamu by JEWELofHELL666(op): 9:22am On Oct 06, 2022
Amid reports of a disagreements within the top echelon of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC regarding the composition of its Presidential Campaign Council PCC, governors of the party on Wednesday passed a vote of confidence on the PCC and the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee NWC of the party.

Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state who briefed journalists after after hours of the tripartite meeting with the NWC and the PCC at the Buhari House national secretariat of the party.

The development came as a member of the PCC berated the Adamu-led NWC for asking for greater inclusion in the campaign council, saying in the history of the APC, this is the only time the NWC is fully participating in the activities of the council.

“Let us cast our minds back to 2018/19. How many members of the then NWC were in the campaign council? Only three. The National Chairman, Woman and Youth Leaders.

“This time around, we have many of them having high level positions in the council. You have the National Chairman, The National Secretary, the two Deputy National Chairmen, the six zonal National Vice Chairmen, the National Organizing Secretary ams several others in the council.

“We have bent backwards to accommodate them but what some of them are asking is to be allowed to make more personal nominations into the council.

“The meeting we just had was for participants to ventilate their grievances. We have resolved to go into the election as one family”, said the PCC member who attended the meeting.

Apart from Bagudu, other governors at the meeting were Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano); Abubakar Badaru Mohammed (Jigawa); Simon Lalong (Plateau and Director General of the PCC): Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger) and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa).

Equally at the meeting was a former National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and directors at the PCC.

Vanguard gathered that the meeting deliberated on the postponed zonal tour by the six National Vice Chairmen and also discussed modalities for the proposed “APC National Conference” which it intends to convene before the end of the year.

The national conference is part of its campaign activities which is geared towards reeling out achievements of the party since 2015.

Vanguard gathered that the meeting also deliberated on the composition of the campaign council.

The PCC directors present at the meeting and who had earlier met with some of the governors on Wednesday night, were said to have assured the NWC that all grey areas in the campaign council list have been addressed.

Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Bagudu said; “What I will say is Governors of the APC, members of the presidential campaign council visited the Chairman and the NWC members to strategize and discuss on campaign and the chairman briefed us about the party and we appreciate how well our party has been doing in the polity”, he stated.

Asked whether APC Governors are displeased with the PCC as presently constituted, Bagudu said; “Governors are very very proud of our party. We are very very proud of our party leader, President Muhamadu Buhari. We are very proud of the conventions that produced both our national chairman and our presidential candidate in person of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the vice presidential candidate in the person of Kashim Shettima.

“We are very proud of the actions of the national chairman and the NWC. We are very proud of the actions of the Presidential Campaign Council.

“We are happy that we are discussing even though there was a list, and that was unfortunate, that is the campaign (council list) which the party would have announced. It was a mistake but I am happy that the party is solidly behind our candidate and whatever lists that have come out erroneously, we believe it will be sorted out”.

On his part, Adamu said the NEC is comfortable with the current arrangement regarding the PCC and that the party would work in accordance with guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to flag-off its campaigns and other activities.

He said; “We are very very comfortable. We have established machinery for resolving anything. We are together with the Governors’ Forum and PCC. I believe this meeting we had is more than useful to us. For us, nothing short of victory and that is the spirit of this meeting”.

Asked about the commencement of campaigns, Adamu said; “Don’t be faster than your shadow. The fact of the matter is, we as a party, as APC we will determine when we will do what as long as it is within the framework of INEC’s guidelines’.

PoliticsI Said Tinubu Will Be Ruthless Like Sani Abacha, Not Friendly - Kashim Shettima by JEWELofHELL666(op): 8:27pm On Sep 16, 2022
Ruling party presidential running mate Kashim Shettima has clarified that he only said his principal Bola Tinubu will be ruthless like Sani Abacha if elected president next February and not hospitable as previously reported.

“I never attributed hospitality to Abacha in my speech. I did a rundown of our past Presidents and played up “the taciturnity and a dose of ruthlessness of a Sani Abacha” to show we need strongmen to deal with the nonstate actors who’ve turned Nigeria into a vast killing-field,” Mr Shettima said in a tweet Friday night.

Federal Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, also said that Mr Shettima never implied that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, would be hospitable to Nigerians in the similitude of late military dictator Sanni Abacha. On the contrary, Mr Keyamo says Mr Tinubu will be ruthless as president.

As shown in the video below, @KashimSM never attributed hospitality to Abacha. He only played up “the taciturnity and a dose of the ruthlessness of a Sani Abacha” to show we need strongmen to deal with the non-state actors who want to disrupt our peace,” Mr Keyamo said on Friday.

Mr Keyamo was addressing a Peoples Gazette article that had previously covered Mr Shettima’s remarks at the 96th anniversary of the Yoruba Tennis Club in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday.

In his remarks, Mr Shettima compared his principal to former Nigerian leaders, both of democratic rule and military regimes. He said that Mr Tinubu embodied their qualities altogether, which according to him, makes the former Lagos governor the best fit for the 2023 presidential elections.

Mr Keyamo has now modified Mr Shettima’s comments to reflect that Mr Tinubu’s “will-be ruthlessness” is directed at non-state actors who threaten the peace of the country.

State-run News Agency of Nigeria was the first to report that Mr Shettima said Mr Tinubu would show “hospitality,” towards Nigerians like Mr Abacha, but Mr Keyamo now says the word Mr Shettima used was “taciturnity.”

Mr Abacha was the ruthless kleptocrat who led Nigeria between 1993 and 1998 and was blamed for the assassination and jailing of many political dissidents.

He looted billions of dollars and vaulted it all in banks in Switzerland, Jersey and other jurisdictions. Nigeria has continued to receive billions in repatriations from those countries as part of the former head of state’s loot.

Mr Tinubu was among scores of Nigerian politicians exiled by Mr Abacha and accepted on asylum in the United Kingdom, United States and elsewhere.

Mr Tinubu has spent years criticising Mr Abacha as a murderous and corrupt dictator, blaming him for the assassination of Kudirat Abiola and other pro-democracy activists of the 1990s.

A spokesman for Mr Tinubu did not return a request seeking comments about why the presidential candidate is now embracing Mr Abacha, a man he spent decades antagonising. But political analysts have speculated Mr Tinubu was toning down his rhetoric on Mr Abacha in order to endear himself to voters in Kano, Mr Abacha’s home state where he remained popular more than two decades after his death.

PoliticsCanadian Judge Grants Man Asylum Reliefs After Claiming Tinubu Tried To Kill Him by JEWELofHELL666(op): 3:38pm On Sep 16, 2022
Canadian judge Henry Brown has granted asylum reliefs to Lukmon Owolabi Shoyebo after claiming APC presidential flag bearer Bola Tinubu tried to kill him in Lagos for defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.

Mr Shoyebo, a former APC youth leader, operating on a local level, said he incurred the wrath of Mr Tinubu and Bolaji Ayinla, the then House of Representatives member for Mushin II constituency, for decamping to PDP at a time when the party was desperately counting on his support to overthrow the party.

Mr Shoyebo also claimed that an assassination attempt on him on November 18, 2015, resulted in the death of two people at his workplace. The Nigerian asylum seeker also told the Canadian authorities that his relatives were targets of vicious attacks.

“The family claims refugee protection because they fear persecution from a powerful political figure in the All Progressive Congress (APC) and a chief in the Ogboni cult, due to the PA’s (principal applicant) political opinion,” stated the application presented before Mr Brown, seen by Peoples Gazette.

“They also allegedly fear an elected APC member of the Federal House of Representatives for the Mushin II constituency who has in the past joined forces with the Ogboni chief in attempting to harm the PA,” the document added.

While Mr Tinubu’s name was not specifically mentioned in the redacted court document, reliable sources in the Mushin axis of Lagos told The Gazette that the APC presidential candidate is the “powerful political figure” and “a chief in the Ogboni cult” Mr Shoyebo accused of the assassination attempt.

Tunde Rahman, Mr Tinubu’s media aide, did not immediately reply to The Gazette’s request seeking comments on the allegations.

According to Mr Shoyebo’s account, his defection cost the APC a chunk of the youths who joined him in pitching tents with the PDP, stressing the defection marked the beginning of harassment and death threats against him and members of his family.

“He claims that starting in March 2015, he faced repeated threats. Then on November 18, 2015, the PA claims he escaped an attempt by one of the agents of persecution through other individuals to kill him at his worksite,” added the document. “Two of the PA’s colleagues were killed during this attack. The applicants claim they later learned that both AOP had been attempting to harm the PA.”

Mr Shoyebo further claimed “his relatives have also been targeted since, and that all these events were sponsored by the two APC affiliates mentioned,” which included an alleged attack on March 7, 2016, that the “AOP’s agents allegedly showed up at the PA’s mother’s home and attacked her.”

Mr Shoyebo’s initial request appealing the rejection of his asylum application was dismissed because the police did not ascertain or deny the attack on his life as claimed. Also, a Canadian doctor could not link the injuries the applicant sustained to “political activism.”

However, Mr Brown, in a September 7 ruling, asserted that the inability of the police to issue confirmation or denial of the attack on Mr Shoyebo did not in any way invalidate his claims, especially since he mentioned he filed a police report, alerting the authorities.

He further asserted that the doctor could not have established if the patient’s injuries were caused by an “improperly motivated attack” or not since the doctor was not there. He stated that the medical reports need not establish the reason for the attack.

Upon revisiting the reasons his initial request was denied, Mr Brown concluded the earlier decision was “procedurally unfair” and therefore granted the application for judicial review.

With the latest development, a differently constituted panel will now reconsider Mr Shoyebo’s application for asylum alongside his wife and two daughters in Canada.

PoliticsMeeting Of APC Presidential Aspirants Postponed As Osinbajo Travels Abroad by JEWELofHELL666(op): 4:42pm On Aug 31, 2022
Today’s scheduled meeting of the 21 former presidential aspirants of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja, could not hold despite series of pre-event publicity.

The roundtable earlier slated for 2p.m. was for the aspirants come up with strategies to support the APC standard bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to win the February 2023 presidential election.

Although no official reason was given for the postponement of the meeting, it was gathered that most of the aspirants who were invited to the parley were non-committal.

Convener of the meeting and APC’s youngest presidential aspirant at its June presidential convention, Dr Nicolas Felix, had earlier said the aspirants had indicated their readiness to attend the meeting.

However, in a message sent to one of the aspirants and seen by Vanguard, Felix implied that the meeting had been postponed indefinitely.

The message read: “Good day your Excellency. Please be informed that the strategic meeting of 2023 presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled to hold on Wednesday the 31st of August has be postponed.

“A new date for the meeting will be communicated soon. Apologies for any inconvenience(s) that this might cause. Stay blessed.”

ASPIRANTS UNINTERESTED

Vanguard, however, gathered that some of the aspirants did not communicate their readiness to attend the meeting.

“Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has travelled. Senate President Ahmad Lawan did not formally respond to the invitation, likewise former Transportation minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,” said a source.

Suggesting that there could be cracks within the ranks of the presidential aspirants, especially with regards to Tinubu’s candidacy, the source said the party’s standard bearer still has a lot of reaching out to do.

Among those earlier slated to be in attendance were Osinbajo, Amaechi; former Science and Technology Minister, Ogbonnaya Onu; former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio.

Five serving governors, namely Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), Ben Ayade (Cross River) and Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) were also billed to attend the botched meeting.

Others were Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; former Ogun State governor and serving senator, Ibikunle Amosun; a serving senator, Ajayi Boroffice; former Zamfara governor, Ahmad Sani; former Imo State governor and serving senator, Rochas Okorocha; a former Senate President, Ken Nnamani.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; fiery cleric, Tunde Bakare; Pastor and businessman, Dr. Nicolas Felix; former Information Minister, Ikeobasi Mokelu; businessman, Tein Jack-Rich and the only female among them, Uju Ken-Ohanenye.

Tinubu had defeated Amaechi, Osibanjo and 12 others to clinch the ticket.
