shortiespro: The ones that bend to eat and not able to walk over power some birds... and when we notice some where bigger than others cuz they were not able to feed well due to over chancing we had to separate small once from the big one to make sure we feed small once enough to recover...someone mention about his bird fighting. I've been having similar problem with my turkey .., they fight to death ... in 3 days we've lost 3 female ... must this be cause they re trying to groom the females ? I've been wondering ... Thanks Mr Noel.. lasota was added into water n then water feeder.. Sorry for ur loss, how many weeks are ur broilers..i was the one that mentioned fighting broilers, I resorted to selling them off.. 1500 - 1300 for ten weeks bird..it is annoying watching the birds fighting each other. My birds are not that weighty. I hope Noels suggestion will be an answer.. It is well.. |

noeloge82: I guess the birds where down before with CRD naturally after sickness there will be weight loss and d treatment used during such could also contribute to slow weight gain Obj birds get very big and heavy what u have to do is increase their water as u have said then give them vitamins for another 5 days then let me know howfar Okay, thanks. Can I use maxi yield as vitamin or I should continue with albovin. I have the two..

chrisj2: Please bros, I am all for going organic - I salute people that are trying; yourself and organicfoods.
To be honest, I like your birds and I do not see much to worry about: they look really healthy to me and the fact that you have managed to sell some to market people before maturity should tell you that you are doing something right. I think being new in the business is what is giving you anxiety - you are successful already!
It could just be the breed of chicken; some mature and gain ultimate weight a little bit later than others - sometimes the amount of feed will not be that significant because they get to that weight when they are due, not by force.
* But can you understand that Noilers will be better if you want to go organic (less drugs and more movement)? Noilers are hardy (hardier) breeds to start with so they will need less drugs/supplements. Thanks for the complement, good that u want to go organic as well, saying no to costly drugs that are even harmful to human health. Days of withdrawal of drugs are never adhered to by farmers, I ve seen someone give drugs to sick birds in d market before selling to a consumer. |

stevejireh01: The brown poo you have there is Cocci, someone once recommended using bitter leave to treat it organically and it worked for the person, more so u may need to also reduce there space to avoid too much roaming n they need to stay often in one place to help conserve the energy. have you also try to weigh them at all? I ve not weighed them as I don't have weight measure for now. Doubts the space is the culprit, am suspecting water I. E dehydration which has been taken care of. Should I put 81birds in a room of 12*12..let me use bitter leaf and enough water for five days and hope for the best... |

@CHRISJ2, Don't blame me much on trying to go organic.. I bought tylodox extra 2 times to treat crd which didn't do much but got an instant result on using garlic ginger extract.. Ginger garlic that cost me 70naira, dear I was swept off my feet by the result. Whatever, there is room for improvement since this is my first time. Is keeping 37 broilers in a room of 12ft by 12ft that big. |
Agriculture › Re: My Organic Poultry Project (broilers) by jfkenny(m): 1:58am On Nov 13, 2016 |
chrisj2: I am now beginning to think that raising Broilers organically is not exactly compatible... I think the breeds of Broilers that you have bought is so important to their development and weight gain and Broilers are not really natural birds so to speak. The added complication of trying to be organic might be counter-productive.
I think the organic way including giving the chicken more room is best suited to Noilers but then you know that noilers take longer to get the desirable market weight of Broilers and they might not even get to the top weight even with constant feeding.
The thing with Broilers is to give them less space, feed them lots including artificially like giving them 16-20 hours light and then pump them with drugs to counteract the effect of cooping them up. With the right breed, right clean environment, good feed and general care they should be ready in 10-14 weeks and you sell them off and sanitise the whole place.
jkenny, I think your birds look fine on the surface of things - it looks like they have a lot of room to move compared to 'organicfoods'. With that in mind, your feed might probably be wasted (scattered) rather than being totally consumed. I don't know about the Brown poo but you should be able to see whether they are healthy or not by their lively attitude, brightness and wanting to feed. I probably will not worry too much about the poo - especially since you are giving them drugs/supplement - they do react to them as well.
Moulting is natural and I do not see severe moulting in your pictures - the feathers will likely grow back. However, moulting can also be a problem but with the age and size of your birds, it will not matter too much as they will all be sold soon. But, I will worry if they start going bald with blotches (that will encourage parasite if they are not there already) or if they are removing their own feathers (lack of protein or nutrient). Water intake is also a factor to take into consideration - no excuse not to give them enough water.
If you want them to gain weight, restrict their movement and feed them late into the night... Spend time to observe them closely! Thanks for ur concern, their feed ain't wasted, maybe water is the culprit, because their water normally get exhausted before 3hrs of feeding them. Being that am not always around during week days, i just discovered and corrected it this weekend, let me watch their weight gain..my breed is obj all male lines, am planning to keep them till december.. Will they ever grow bigger. |

organicfoods: Are you based in Ibadan? Do you use Lacto bacillus as well? My broilers are on ginger garlic every day and no issue with weight. Am not in ibadan, anambra. So ginger garlic ain't the problem.. I should simply feed them well... I don't use Lacto bacillus, how is it used |

I don't know how much the market women will them. I went to speak to one yesterday, but she said I should bring them let her see first. Sold to people that wants to keep as well as those that will eat.. |

kayo80: Hmm! I hope the experts come and give you some answers. So, what's up...are they still eating a bag in 3 days? My 102 Noilers are now finishing a bag in 5 days. It is becoming scary. I ve sold off 23 @1300....so feeds them lesser.. Maybe I ve not been giving them enough water.. I started using bigger drinker now and discovered that their water ws barely enough for them.. |

My broilers are eating well but no longer weighs as they used to. Their feathers are falling off as well, is it moulting? They are 8 weeks +, is their anything I can do or just keep feeding them and hoping for the best. Some have brown poos as well is their any organic means to arrest the situation am tired of drugs and gradually falling for organic..

EMMAACHILE: Good observation there. My wife was also complaining of that too. I didnt want to take any chances but my next trial will only take gumboro, lasota vaccines only.
The vaccination schedule on the page is same as broilers.
I am currently experimenting with organic leafs like bitter leaf to replace keproceryl, aloe vera and dry moringa leafs to replace antibiotics and also known to treat newcastle, etc. What is keproceryl for? |

Seems, ginger +garlic is an automatic answer to CRD.. I spent #3800 on tylodox for this crd for 5days without result but I got an automatic answer after spending #70 on ginger and garlic... Organic thanks for this thread.. But it seems like, the mixture also reduces birds weight drastically, My observation though. |

EMMAACHILE: Day 14: 51 Noilers Pictures
I notice something about noilers. They waste too much food. I had to put a flat plastic tray under their food tray to see the waste these little chicks generate.
They also popo a lot. This litter was changed about three days ago. Its already full again. I have to change it tomorrow morning and expand the room to its full length. Maybe i am overfeeding, I dont know.
Noilers are just different from broilers. They tend to dig into their food just like local indigenous chicken. Nice one |
