Business / Solution To Lagos Traffic by jic4real: 7:39am On Oct 01, 2021
Lagos traffic has been a major challenge to the government and people residing in Lagos.
After so many years, that challenge seems to be increasing.
As I went out today been public holiday, I noticed how free the road was. Same thing happens when you go out on public holidays.
So, the more people at home the lesser the traffic.
I am proposing that government encourage companies that the work can be done from home to send their staff home, at only come to the office once in a while.
This will reduce the number of cars on the road every working day.
Kindly let me know your thoughts on this.

NYSC / Upload All `authentic’ Graduates For NYSC, Vcs Tell Universities Read More At: by jic4real: 8:03pm On Oct 11, 2016
The Committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC) has urged universities to upload the names of all eligible graduates for the 2016 Batch `B’ of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). A statement by CVC on Tuesday in Abuja said that the committee’s stance was sequel to its meeting with the Director-General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Sule Kazaure. The statement was co-signed by Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, CVC’s President and Prof. Michael Faborode, the committee’s Secretary-General. NYSC had in a memo to universities recently, directed them to cut their mobilisation for the scheme by 60 per cent due to financial constraints. The CVC said that the stakeholders agreed with NYSC that paucity of funds was responsible for the slash in the percentage of mobilisation. It said that its meeting resolved “that all authentic graduates of universities be uploaded by universities for NYSC to mobilise as appropriate. “All universities are expected to comply immediately and ensure that graduates of part-time programmes and over-aged graduates are not included in their list. “The CVC and the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) plead with the government and the National Assembly to provide resources needed for full mobilisation to stave off impending problem of partial mobilisation. “We appeal to all graduates and prospective corps members to show understanding and exercise restraint while awaiting further directives from NYSC.’’ The statement said that the CVC meeting with NYSC authorities was preceded by one with the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission on the issue.

Career / Read What Will Happen To Un-certified Electrical Contractors From Now Onwards by jic4real: 11:32am On Aug 09, 2016
The Nigerian Electricity Management Service Agency (NEMSA) has warned electrical installation contractors without certification from the agency to get it or risk prosecution.

It said the penalty for not acquiring the certificate is a three-year imprisonment or a fine of N500,000.

The agency’s Chief Executive Officer, also the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Peter Ewesor, gave the warning during the inauguration of the Abuja Zonal Electrical Installation Contractors Certification Panel in Abuja.

He said in addition to the imprisonment and fine, the holders of the certificates had sanctions, which ranged from suspension of licence, a repeat of the installation if it had not caused havoc, and permanent withdrawal of the certificate if the installation led to an accident that caused loss of life.

The panel has major stakeholders from the sector, including the Zonal/Area Inspecting Engineer (NEMSA) as chairman.

Others are from Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Standard Organisation of Nigeria, Electrical Engineer from Federal Ministry of Works, A representative of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN), a representative of DisCos, Electrical Engineer in the Zonal Office as secretary, and a representative of Certification Unit (HQ).

According to Ewesor, the agency under the Certification of Electrical Contractors in Nigeria on July 26 certified 6,500 contractors while there has been a high rush to the agency for re-certification.

He said: “The reason we are doing this is that we have noticed that with the certification kicked off, the rush for recertification has been very high, and we have to start this inauguration for people who feel they have to be certified to be certified so that some people cannot be disenfranchised from the exercise.”

The CEO noted that the goal of NEMSA is to weed out quacks to ensure the delivery of uninterrupted power supply to Nigerians, ensuring safety of lives and property.

“Many lapses have been identified in the power sector and other places where electricity is used in the area of electrical installation, which have resulted to the unstable network and fire incidences over the years. These lapses include design and construction failure, improper planning and execution of electrical projects, use of substandard materials and equipment, deliberate oversight of procedures, code and requirements for executing electricity projects as specified by regulations and standard code of practice, lack of adherence to standard construction and installation and inadequate safety provisions during constrain and subsequent utilisation of the network,” he said.

He said there are 16 zonal panels across the country, with the inauguration taking off from Abuja because of its proximity to the head office.

On the composition of the panel of experts from different specialised organisations related to electricity, he noted that that Ministry of Labour was represented in the panel in order to address the issue of safety.

The CEO said the agency was not certifying contractors for the fun of it, but for owing to the fact that they should be able to interpret the regulations, code of practice and also know the consequences of absence of earthing in a house.

Education / Coren To Be Abolished by jic4real: 8:17pm On Jul 24, 2016
Chineme Okafor in Abuja

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has disclosed that it is currently working with the National Assembly to promulgate a law which will abolish its existing regulatory and compliance arm, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and then set up a fresh chartered body to replace it.

NSE said the body to emerge from COREN’s imminent abolition will be known as the Nigerian Society of Engineering Personnel (Chartered), and that it will, among other responsibilities, take up the regulation; control; enforcement; and determination of the standard of knowledge to be attained by people seeking to become registered and chartered engineering personnel and other connected purposes in the country.

The society stated at the weekend in Abuja when it conferred fellowship titles on 20 of its members that COREN as presently constituted has not lived up to the purpose for which it was set up in 1970.

It said it was for reasons which include operational and industry anomalies; consistent drop in regulations and standards; neglect of accreditation responsibilities; all of which results to societal disregard for the engineering profession and professionals that it wants the COREN to give way for the chartered body.

The President of NSE, Otis Anyaeji stated at the occasion that it was an opportunity for the profession to reinvent itself to be able take its position in the development matrix of Nigeria.

Similarly, the chairman board of fellows of NSE, Chris Okoye in his remarks said members of the association were favourably disposed to the option, and that it has already started work with the National Assembly to fulfil the legal requirements for the repositioning.

A presentation made by a member of the NSE, Prof. Simon Irtwange on the repositioning plan indicated that the proposed bill will provide a framework for the proper operations of other members of the engineering family that have been neglected under the present arrangement.

Health / Want To Boost Sperm Count? Eat Goat – Zoologist Read More At: Http://www.vangua by jic4real: 8:25pm On May 15, 2016
Ilorin – People with low sperm count have been advised to eat more goat and foods that contain different nutrients to boost their fertility. Professor of Applied Zoology, Stephen Oluwagbemiga, gave the advice at the Annual Lecture of National Association of Zoology Students, University of Ilorin, in Ilorin on Friday. Oluwagbemiga, of the Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara, who cautioned Nigerians against feeding too much on junk foods, said the advice was necessary because many people were deficient in calcium. He said inadequate calcium in the body could adversely affect how peoples’ hearts and other parts of the body worked/functioned. Oluwagbemiga stressed the need for people to increase their calcium in-take by eating crayfish, snails and biscuit bones. Speaking on: Relevance of Zoology in Contemporary Nigeria; he said Zoologists had been involved in solving some of the nation’s health problems amongst which are guinea worm infection, sleeping sickness and mosquito bites. Kwara State’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Alhaji Mahmud Ajeigbe, praised the students for organising the lecture, and urged them to face their studies. Ajeigbe also charged them to cultivate the habit of reading widely in order to excel in all fields of human endeavours.

Fuel price hike: Presidency rolls out palliatives, to pay N5000 monthly to 1m Nigerians
By Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA – To cushion the harsh effect of the new pump price of Premium Motor Spirt, PMS also called petrol on the people, the presidency is set to implement the N500 billion earmarked in the 2016 budget for social welfare. A statement by the media spokesperson for Vice President Yemi Osinabjo, Mr. Laolu Akande in Abuja on Sunday stated “All together the federal government would be directly impacting the lives of more than 8 million Nigerians in different social investment 2016 budget spending that would provide succor and be a ready-made palliative to ordinary Nigerians.” Giving a breakdown of the interventions and palliatives, Akande said that said that there would “the direct payment of N5000 monthly to one million extremely poor Nigerians for 12 months as provided for in the 2016 budget for which N$68.7B has been appropriated.” Similarly, the government has also made available a “direct provision of very soft loan -cash for market women, men and traders, including artisans and Agric workers. This would be for a total of 1.76m Nigerians, without the requirement for conventional collateral. Some of the traders will likely get about N60,000. A total sum of N140.3B has already been appropriated for this in the budget”. The details also showed their there would be “payment of between N23,000 to N30,000 per month to 500,000 unemployed graduates who would be trained, paid and deployed to work as volunteer teachers, public health officers and extension service workers among other responsibilities. They would also be given electronic devices to empower them technologically both for their assignments and beyond”. According to the media aide, “100,000 artisans would also be trained and paid N191.5B has been set aside for this in the passed budget.” He also said that “At least 5.5 million Nigerian primary school children -ie starting first in 18 states-three per geopolitical zones-would be fed for 200 school days under the free Homegrown School Feeding Programme”, as “N93.1B has been appropriated for this in the 2016 budget.” In this same vein “100,000 tertiary students in Science Technology Engineering & Maths-STEM, plus Education will partake in the N5.8B already provided for this education grant in the budget. Akande stated that “This payment would also be paid directly to the students.” He stated that these measures that would start in a matter of weeks would certainly lift the ordinary man from the pangs of economic hardship and poverty. “Long before now, the Presidency has made adequate arrangements in the 2016 budget to ensure that Nigerians are lifted from poverty and hardship,” Akande said, adding that “the Buhari presidency is keen to ensure that Nigerians are lifted and that if necessary on an ongoing basis palliatives measures would always been considered to address the conditions of the people.”
