OBJ farm to generate 30,000 jobs for Liberians Business Monday, July 29, 2013 Monrovia – Liberia's Minister of Agriculture, Dr Florence Chenoweth, on Sunday said that Obasanjo Farms in Liberia would create about 30,000 job opportunities for the citizens. Chenoweth made the observation during the dedication ceremony of Obasanjo Farms Liberia Incorporated at Gbah Foboi, Grand Cape Mount County, in Liberia. She noted that the Liberian government had focused its attention on the agriculture sector in its efforts to create jobs for the people. She, however, urged legislators, chiefs and superintendents from Cape Mount County to advise youths in the area to seize the opportunities presented by the new farm to become productive, while ensuring the area's development. Chenoweth stressed that the establishment of Obasanjo Farms would help in addressing one the salient aspects of the government's efforts to ensure food security. She noted that more than 40 per cent of Liberian children had stunted growth, stressing the need to solve the problem by fast-tracking the production of eggs and poultry in Liberia. “We need to produce proteins either in beans or meat, which the cattle, goat and piggery produce, in Liberia, so as to ensure balance diets for our people's nutrition," she said. Earlier, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf described President Olusegun Obasanjo as a visionary leader who was responsive to the needs of the people in critical areas. She commended Obasanjo for his constant support for Liberia and for having faith in the future of the country. Also speaking, Mr Daniel Atsu, the Group Managing Director of Obasanjo Holdings Limited, said that the farm was set up in anticipation of the adverse effects of global warming and climate change on poultry production in tropical Africa. He stressed that such anticipation informed the decision of Obasanjo to develop African poultry breeds which could thrive in hot and humid environment. Atsu said that the farm had six standard poultry houses, adding that two of them were for breeding young chicks, while the remaining four were equipped with three-tier automated layer cages. He said that the first and second batches of about 10,000 layers had started laying eggs. He said that the layer houses would soon be increased to 16, a capacity which would produce about 15,000 farm fresh eggs daily. Atsu said that the farm would offer unlimited opportunities to farmers to grow corn, soybeans or supply dried or smoked fish in large quantities, saying that the farm was situated on 125 acres of land. “No Itsekiri party is complete without Oghwo soup” Written by Blessing Ekum, Aisha Oladipo And Moyo Oni Saturday, 27 July 2013 00:00 font size decrease font size increase font size Print Email Rate this item 1 2 3 4 5 (0 votes) раскрутка сайтов AddThis Social Bookmark Button As a caterer, are you much of an eater? I actually don’t eat much of food and I also don’t take junk food. Could this be responsible for your trim physique? I am close to my 40s and I have four kids. So, I would say it is just my God-given stature. Which of the cakes do you love baking most? That is sponge cake. A lot of people like it because it is easier to bake even though it doesn’t last as long as fruit cakes. What food do you consider your favourite? I am from Delta State but married to a Yoruba man. My favourite food is amala with gbegiri and ewedu. What was your experience like preparing Yoruba dishes when you got married? Yoruba dishes are not as strenuous to prepare as Delta State dishes. I thought it wise to learn how to prepare dishes from the South West since I love my husband and desire he eats well. Which of the dishes is your favourite from your state? Banga soup; though I don’t prepare it too often. Is that also the toast of all your parties? Among the Itsekiri and Urhobo in Delta State, Oghwo soup is. No Itsekiri party is complete without Oghwo soup. Can you share the recipe for this soup? Well, each person prepares hers using different procedures but it is the end product that matters. I prepare mine using my grandmother’s recipe. You will need starch, native palm oil, dried fish, periwinkle, crayfish, potash (kaun), ponmo, cow leg, cow head, ground pepper and bouillon cubes. Salt is not added to this soup, rather a condiment known as owumumu, which tastes like salt is used. Cook and season cow leg and head. Pour water into pot and add ground pepper, bouillon cubes, dried fish, periwinkle, owumumu and crayfish. Add palm oil and allow to cook. Mix starch in water and add to soup to thicken. Oghwo soup shouldn’t be watery; its consistency should be quite thick. Allow to cook for a while till ready. What is it best served with? Oghwo soup is best served with starch and it can also be served with yam and plantain. What aroused your interest in baking? Initially, I chose baking because I needed something to keep me busy and fetch me money. Also, when I had my wedding, I loved the cake that was baked. This motivated me to learn baking. Moreover, with the rate of unemployment and the fact that most times, people are not well paid, it just seemed right to go into business for myself. I have always been business-minded, even right from my undergraduate days. I do a bit of cooking, but baking is my passion. Is the art of baking based on skill and training or an innate ability? It’s not based on an inbuilt talent because it was something I developed a passion for and acquired training on. Some people might say women in their families have been bakers and that makes them automatically bakers but this wasn’t so for me. It just started as a business idea and my passion grew from there. However, if one has creativity, it goes a long way in making an impact in the baking world. What is the one blunder that most learner-bakers should watch out for? Impatience. Baking is more than just mixing butter and sugar. It is one thing to bake a good cake; it is another thing to design, and in designing a cake, you have to be very patient to get a perfect finishing. Baking a cake is actually time-consuming and if you don’t give it all of your time, you won’t get the best out of it. This is because creativity takes time. What is the longest period it has taken you to bake a cake? I have had to bake a cake for about two weeks. That was a wedding cake. Isn’t that a bit too long for just a cake? Well, that was from the baking to the designing. It takes long

Obama visit is far more important to Nigerians. By the way how much is that equipment worth? America has alot of making up to do to get back in the good books of Nigerians or we are heading east to china. |
Dudu_Negro: They have a surprise coming for them after Fashola leave office. The SAN title is what restrained Fashola from digging his feet down. We will make sure his successor is not a SAN. We want our customary laws to prevail.Don't use Fashola or ACN to do your dirty bidding here on nairaland. How can u say that, tomorrow wen they pack and go, will u leave admin to be a shop boy? I fear we make all this noise, wen they leave we will match up east by fire by force to drag them back again. The easy part is to pursue, the hard part is to do the work they are currently doin. In London, why have the British not chased away all their asian traders and similarly in America? This is beacuse they deliver on essential services that their people slack on. |
I cannot support some comments here because lagos like london and newyork cannot turn down investment but wen it comes to fighting, Igbos can go home and should go home. no wahala. Ladipo does not take anything away from hard working yorubas and shouldn't be a bone of contention. Anybody can start a market, the more the better for lagos state igr. |
A child has no business with a man. Not everything the korean says that we apply in recent times. Let the child grow into an adult that can make decisions on their choice of spouse. I am tired of people using islam as an excuse to justify peadophilia. Islam does not mandate child marriage. That is an option that as muslims we can do without, similar to the four wifes, my dad had one. |

Lagos: Cleric arrested for using human parts for rituals by Eniola Akinkuotu The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Gazali Akewadola, a self-proclaimed Islamic cleric and native doctor, for selling human parts. The 60-year-old suspect was also accused of killing people and using their parts for ritual purposes. The police added that Akewadola was a member of the gang that was recently arrested for exhuming corpses and selling their parts. PUNCH Metro had reported on May 22, 2013 that the police arrested five members of a syndicate- Jamiu Adeleke, Ajibade Rafiu, Fatai Akiwowo, Kazeem Sanni and Agboola Kolawole - for selling human parts in Owode, Ogun State. According to Police authorities, Akewadola was nabbed after the five suspects that were initially arrested made confessional statements and led policemen to his hideout. Akewadola, who is presently in custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, said he joined the illegitimate business because he needed the money to take care of his eight children. He said, "I am an Islamic teacher and a cleric and I own an Islamic school in Owode, Yewa. I am also married with eight lovely children. "I am also a native doctor. I cure people of ailments and help those who want to become rich quick. I use human parts to prepare charms and concoctions for them." When asked if he could sell the parts of his children, he said, "God forbid! I do ritual because the money I make from sales is used for the well-being of my children. Also, if I had killed my children and sold them, it could have aroused suspicion and my relations might expose me but if the people I use for the ritual are brought from far away, it is safer for me and my business." The native of Owode Yewa, Ogun State, said he initially started buying heads from Sanni at the cost of N3,000 but Sanni later increased the price to N8,000. He said after sometime, he discovered that this was not lucrative and then decided to start buying human beings and then dismembering the corpses which he would use for various purposes. He confessed that he ate some of the parts while the other parts were used in making charms for his customers. He said a full live human being cost between N30, 000 and N40, 000. He said, "It is cheaper to buy a live human. You get a lot of parts from it and it is more powerful because the efficacy of the charm or concoction you prepared with fresh parts cannot be compared with the ones you prepared with parts you got from the grave. "For instance, a live human being will give you blood. There is charm you can prepare with it. The same body will give you hairs from private parts, head and moustache. You can also cut out private parts. Each part of human being is useful. Even the meat and intestine, liver, heart, eyes, lips, tongues can be used for pepper soup. "If you buy full human being for N30, 000 or N40, 000 and dismember it, you can end up getting N100, 000 or more because you get more than ten parts and can yield good money." When asked why he ate human parts, he said, "It tastes so good and better than animal meat especially when taken with hot drink, or wine or beer but the most essence of eating it is to assure those who patronise us that it is eatable and sweet, and of spiritual and physical benefits. It can cure serious illness and can make one get rich quick." The suspect, who was not remorseful for his crime, said his only regret was that he had not become as rich as he wanted to be. He feared that following his arrest, he would die a pauper. "My regret is that I did not become rich even after selling human parts. I even found it difficult to feed my family sometimes," he said. Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, could not be reached because his telephone lines were switched off.
