Webmasters / Re: Finally, Webmasters Of Africa Is #1 On Google by JiggaMouse(m): 7:58pm On Apr 03, 2008
Y'all should stop all this pointless bickering and navel gazing. Persistent verbal assault and battle of wits will not take Nigerian/African webmasters anywhere. Think about those just coming up, how can you encourage them? What about the intermediate guys, how can you help them to become experts?

Let's all try and do something for the Nigerian webmaster (this is Nairaland right?)

Politics / Edo State Election Tribunal Results: Adams wins: What happens now? by JiggaMouse(m): 3:05pm On Mar 20, 2008
Edo State Election Tribunal Results: Osunbor's Election has been nullified. Oshiomhole has been declared winner.

Meanwhile, what happens now? It was ordered that Oshiomhole be given a certificate of return. Therefore if Osunbor's Appeal fails, there wont be a reelection, Osunbor will go.

But will Oshiomhole be able to return the support he had from the grassroot and better Osunbor's present "record". Or will he bow to the whims of his hidden "Godfathers" maybe including (as rumoured) Lucky Igbinedion. Well only time will tell.
Personally, I believe Oshiomhole will do FAR better than Osunbor. He has already p[rovced his worth while he was at the NLC.

UPDATES:

NTA Benin: Oshiomhole to be given certificate of Return for "Having scored the highest number of lawful votes"

AC had six SANs on their case.

The PDP Lawyer says that they will appeal.

Barr Iziyon of PDP: Listening to the 6 hour judgement, we know that we have very good grounds to appeal that judgement. We have grievances against the judgement.

Politics / Would You Vote For An Ex-prostitute? by JiggaMouse(m): 4:00pm On Jul 16, 2007
I read this story about a woman who was a prostitute and is now one of the contestants running for the elections in Turkey and I wondered how circumstances can change at different times. If this happened in Nigeria, would you vote for her

"It's been more than a decade since she paid off the $12,000 price she was sold for. Now, in an effort to draw attention to the plight of Turkey's 3,000 state-registered prostitutes, she's running as an independent candidate in parliamentary elections on July 22"

Webmasters / Re: Nigerian Female Bloggers Are Making Waves In The Blogosphere! by JiggaMouse(m): 9:51pm On Jun 27, 2007
Orikinla, for some time I have actually followed the progress of the blogging thing in Nigeria. I started out with Funmi Iyanda's blog after I saw the address on her TV show and since then I developed interest because all of a sudden it was as if a whole new world was opened for me.

This became my inspiration for a small project which I'm currently working on. A close look would reveal that it is actually a clone of Nigerian Blogs aggregator.

I was actually making use of Nigerian blogs aggregator but I noticed that it had a couple of bugs. So I did some research and dug up this software. It's actually an opensource web based feed aggregator

onydchic:

I don't know why Nigerians like making a big deal out of something that the rest of the world does so easily and without fanfare. I blog, I don;t make a big deal out of it. Why should we? Most Americans wont even know the word blogosphere because all they do is write, share with their friends who do the same and it gets popular. Here, it's like, OMG, Nigerian A is blogging! Nigerian B's blog is a hit!

So? Who cares? Really?

Blogging and the Internet are wonderful things that have revolutionalized the way people interact and we must always remember that.

E.G: If it wasn't for these two things (this post is about blogging) then I never would have known someone like you exists, not to talk of holding a discussion with you. Hope you get my point.
Webmasters / Does Your Blog Have An RSS Feed? Post It Here. by JiggaMouse(m): 9:37pm On Jun 27, 2007
Hello people!

Please if you have a blog and it has an RSS/XML or any other kind of feed post it here. If you don't know how to get this feed, post the blog address here (with an RSS feed, we can help you automatically place your new blog posts in one central place for all nigerians to see just like Nigerian blogs aggregator is doing.

We are trying to manually compile all Nigerian blogs for a project we are working on. This website is really not ready for the public yet but at this stage we need to start gathering the feeds.

It is a web based feed reader where you can read different feeds from different places from a single page. I've been using it privately for quite sometime but just decided to provide a public version as part of a larger project I am working on.
Politics / Is Umaru Yar' Adua Going To Be Good Or Bad? by JiggaMouse(m): 9:34pm On May 15, 2007
Coming on the backdrop of an election which was generally regarded within the country and beyond as fraught with high scale irregularities and unfairness, the emergence of Shehu Umar Yar Adua as the president in waiting is to be regarded as the power machinery, grinding within the confines of Aso Rock and it's coterie of appendages.

Granted that sentiment played a most part of campaigns the nation wide, some chose to express their resentment to issues in negative ways, thus giving rise to violent conclusions. However, the issue of the various outcomes of disputations is best left to the legal battlefield, and no amount of public whipping up of sentiment is going to change that fact even if opposition elements choose to take their protestations to the moon.

Now, to the nitty gritty of statesmanship and brinksmanship, much as most would want to happily hate the man, kudos must be given to the outgoing head of the executive for propping up the new man from Nigeria. Unlike the timid schoolboy in the overawing presence of the headmaster that we saw during the campaigns trail, Umar Yar Adua looks set to assume comfortably the emergent captain of the Nigerian stateship, at least a captain must have a General that he should be answerable to.

It is heartening to see the man hobnobbing with fellow African leaders, and it seem as if he will do well enough. Africa though might not be enough in the reality of our globalised existence. The Nigerian should stand tall in the emergent scheme of things, and this has to replicate itself in the daily existence of the citizenry.

There is not much use in gargantuan claims while lilliputan are the resources one is made to endure amidst plenty.

Let us hail the new Nigerian president and wish him well because he embodies the story of the Nigerian. Aside the fact of his antecedents, it would benefit more if his immediate constituency continue to feel his presence even if far away, in the provision of agreeable standards of living. Most would want so much and could do with much less, but at least the basic neccessities for a start. Trust Nigerians, they would carry on from there and perform miracles. Many have been known to train graduates from meagre trades such as barbing, sewing, cab drivers, meagre earning public workers. If there could just be some little change, it would be miraculous the outcome.

In all though, the seeming resentment being expressed by some would be done well to be shut up by an above average performance from this man Shehu Umar Yar Adua, not just by his foreign policy decisions and directions but also by his own personality which he displayed as governor for eight years in his state. the goodwill amongst his fellows is commendable. We sincerely hope that we be not dissapointed. And so did Dr. Seuss comment, 'You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own, and you know what you know. YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.'

Nigeria needs to go into the present, into the 21st century, into prosperity and security, into economic stability and viability, into political tolerance and spiritual deliverance, and who else but you now at this point in time to be the top guy. History beckons,

Adeniyi83, I have been working on something along similar lines for a couple of months now. I'm still doing a lot of the work and I dont expect it to be completed any time soon, but I'm just working on small sections as my schedule permits.

I would be most willing to share ideas with you and if possible make any contributions to your project. My long term plan is to eventually make my whole network community driven and I'm using a lot of open source stuff.

Dating And Meet-up Zone / Can One Really Find Love Online? by JiggaMouse(m): 3:30pm On Jan 05, 2007
A while ago, I got into a discussion with a colleague of mine who's working in the same team with me on a web project. He maintained that online dating and everything that follows from it is a waste of time but my stand was that love does exist online and anyone can find it.

After pondering this question for a long time, we decided it was best to put this into a practical test by building a not-for-profit website that provides anybody with all the tools for finding Nigerian love online. It is a fresh and unique new dating website. Unique in the sense that membership and everything else (chatting, profile rating, dating etc) is free FOREVER. It also has a feedback mechanism where users can tell us their experiences of love or otherwise on the website.

Now, the website which we have called Soyiya! is ready for trials and is located here: http://love.naijalive.net

We would like anybody interested to check this out and help us answer the question: Can one really find love online?

Sholasys, my team is currently working on a project where we are developing a blogging platform SPECIFICALLY for Nigerians (like a Nigerian version of ). We are using an open source application and just basically making modifications and configuration. We shall release this platform on public beta before the end of January so I suggest you might want to check it out by visiting this page regularly http://naijalive.net

Alternately, you may also want to check out the application we are using, its called LifeType. If you find this application useful, you might also be interested in learning about the Open Source community and the ideals of Web 2.0. You would be surprised at what you would find.
