Hmmmm Etcetera dey vex oo.... He finished Burna Boy for dis one.... I no dey ooo. Ladies and gentlemen, you are welcome to the new game in town. For better or for worse, our music “industry” is embracing a new form of art. The focus has shifted almost entirely from making music to something else. Now the transition is finally complete and the sync word here is LIE. In Nigeria today, every artist needs a “lying” platform – or three, to reach their target audience. Years back, radio used to be the dominant “platform” for breaking new artists, you may say it is still important, but the radio is certainly no longer the only game in town. It is becoming simply too limited, too expensive and too difficult to control to be the sole platform. A better and surer way to expose the artist to the public has been discovered. Now the artist with the biggest LIE has the bigger and better head start. The Nigerian music “industry” has now brought a vast array of gifted liars. We have seen managers lying blatantly about the activities of their artistes just to be noticed. So far, it is working for them here in Nigeria. Our gullibility has made it too easy to become an artist here in Nigeria. What was your reactions when Burna Boy tweeted about his new songwriting deal with Universal Music Group? Did you notice how the blogs went gaga congratulating him? If truly Burna Boy got a deal, why didn’t Universal Music Group issue a statement to that effect? Well, stranger stuff has happened. Isn’t the Nigerian music “industry” at risk with this lying game taken to this new level? Is it no longer worth noting that the actual quality of the artist’s songs should be a predominating factor in a decision to recruit him as a songwriter? Why are we acting as if we don’t know that Burna’s songs won’t find many readily available patronisers outside the shores of Nigeria? If they do, they can only be appreciated by only a few Nigerians. Even in cases where there is a proven audience for a particular artiste’s work, it is not enough to make it a big deal to corner a deal. As a musician reading this article, would you approach Burna Boy to write you a song? Judging by what you’ve heard from him so far! If you can’t, why would a foreign company with a long list of songwriters employ him as a songwriter? ADVERTISEMENT One reason why there are no record labels in Nigeria is that a lot of our music stakeholders are sentimental in their approach to the business. The guys at Universal are not jokers. They are strictly in it for the money. They don’t attach sentiments to their dealings. They know that songwriting is not actually a business. There’s no financial element attached to songwriting in itself. It is the job of the music publisher to turn the song into something that can generate income. Can Burna’s song guarantee the kind of financial returns we are talking about here? How many CDs has he sold in Nigeria as an artist? I am not talking of the free downloads of singles on blogs, but the copies of actual albums he has sold. How many people have his album in their homes? The pink and brown contract sneaked up on us on instagram could have been printed at Oluwole. Until Universal Music Group authenticates these claims, everything Burna has said could not be true. It is a shame that Nigerian journalists will never see it necessary to investigate any issue before plastering it all over their platforms. I was on set on Nigezie, shooting the Etcetera Live TV show when the producer asked if I heard about Burna Boy’s new deal with Universal Records. Right there and then, I went online and checked the authenticity of the story. The first thing I checked was if Universal Music Group issued any statement to that effect. I wasn’t surprised that the story could only be found on Nigerian websites. The websites of Universal in America, South Africa and other countries had nothing suggesting they have anything with Burna Boy. Their facebook pages said nothing too. There is an official statement on every deal they have made. It is the norm with every recording company in the world. You employ a songwriter who is like a talent magnet; a record maker. Someone who brings forth the talent in the singer. Someone whose role is to write songs that define the artistes and give them a reason for existence and you keep that under the carpet? It doesn’t make any sense. The truth is, there’s no song of Burna that suggests he is anywhere close to being the kind of songwriter we are talking about here. This guy sounds like he doesn’t want anyone to pick out his lines. Finally, it is very important for all those with music interest to note that in this new LIE eco-system of ours, there are three things a musician needs, and his success or failure can be predicted almost entirely on the basis of how many of these three things are in place. If you can provide a clean sweep of three out of three, like Burna Boy, you’ll likely be signing a record deal with Universal Music Group even without being able to hold your notes vocally. If you’ve got two out of three, you will probably get an offer, like some other artistes have claimed at different times. Though it might not be exactly the deal you were hoping for. Bring only one out of three and the best you can hope for is a polite invitation to come back sometime in the distant future. So here are the three things every Nigerian will pay for – the essential components to a successful “Music Career” – 1.LIE, 2.LIE and 3.LIE! http://www.etceteralive.com/our-artistes-now-invent-lies/ |

Saw dis on a blog...... Korede Bello must be on cloud nine. His song Godwin is currently Nigeria’s most popular song. So popular is it that some have even gone as far as saying it is now the de facto anthem of Nigerians all over the world. With this one song, he has achieved what every musician actively aims for. It is also important to note that this song is actually Korede’s second or third single as a professional musician. With this, he has joined the likes of Davido, Kiss Daniel and Patoranking as musicians who through one single attained ‘superstar status’ or in his own unique case, ‘mega superstar status’. I did not fully appreciate how popular the song was until almost all politicians who emerged victorious during the just concluded elections adopted it as their ‘unofficial victory anthem’. Akinwunmi Ambode, governor elect of Lagos state is said to be especially fond of the song. In fact, it was the song of choice when he and APC party stalwarts gathered at the party headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos to celebrate his victory at the polls. With all the plaudits the song has gotten, I would like to sound a note of warning to Korede and Mavin Records. Leave the song as it is. Please do not remix it. Do not get me wrong, I’m not saying remixing the song will be a bad thing, I just feel it would be unnecessary to make a Godwin remix. Some might argue that a remix might actually make the song last longer in the minds of music lovers. An example to support this case would be Patoranking’s Girlie O ft. Tiwa Savage. The remix was so good that most people forgot about the original. But let us also not forget that major hit songs like Oritsefemi’s Double Wahala Iyanya’s Kukere, Davido’s Damiduro, Olamide’s First Of All, and Kiss Daniel’s Woju had remixes that were considered outright failures in every sense. Even though they all featured ‘A list’ musicians like Akon, Dbanj, Tiwa Savage and Davido. Though Korede might not realise it, he has made a song that would be around for a long, long time. You know your song is a hit when you are invited to perform it in churches. Though some pastors might consider it a ‘secular’ song. Also in all this, one must not forget Don Jazzy’s input in all this. He remains like the proverbial wine that gets better with time. 3 of his new school artistes (Korede, Reekado Banks and Di’Ja) all have songs topping the charts currently. Other acts signed to his Mavin records like Tiwa Savage, Dr Sid and D Prince are also doing well. Kudos to him. One can only hope Korede develops on the success of Godwin and keep giving us good music. We wouldn’t want him to turn into a ‘one hit wonder’. Mattex001:U welcome. the name of the weight gain syrup is Wate-On Syrup. |
owolawitola:Yes eating before 7pm helps the food to digest before u go to bed. Cos night food always encourages weight gain. But sometimes, due to genetics, some people are naturally fat or chubby. In dat case, u might not lose the desired weight but u ll lose some weight and still be healthy. |
owolawitola:If u want to lose weight, then u have to cut down on ur food intake. Eat small portions of food. If u get too hungry, eat fruits or vegetables instead. Avoid too much carbohydrates. Don't eat late night supper. Eat before 7pm in the evening, preferably fruits. Do exercise too. Good luck. |
@YungEx The Wate-On syrup is N1700. |
venatus25:Thanks bro. |

I have noticed dis a long time ago. I recommend he takes malt and milk 3 times a day after heavy meals. He have to snacking too, in-between meals. If he likes, he can add Wate-On syrup to it, its for weight gain. If he tries this, after 3weeks he will be looking like Skales in dat picture. |
OP, I can hardly understand you. Your topic doesn't correlate with what you wrote. Maybe u need to meet Sahara Reporters for them to guide u on how to write articles. No offence. |

http://techpoint.ng/dear-jay-z-here-are-7-nigerian-artistes-that-should-be-discovered/ Saw this in a blog..... interesting read.. DEAR JAY Z, HERE ARE 7 TALENTED NIGERIANS THAT SHOULD BE “DISCOVERED” Techtainment ViewPoint April 28, 2015 4 Comments Was anyone here really surprised that Nigeria was Tidal’s first stop on its journey to being identified as a “global company”? Well, I certainly wasn’t. Anyone who has been paying any attention on social media knows that Nigerian publicity is good publicity. So since Jay Z claims he sent a representative to “discover new talent,” I’d totally hate if he goes for an already established name like ‘Iceprince’ and then go ahead to dub him a “new talent.” Anyway, I took the liberty of coming up with 7 artistes that deserve to be “discovered.” Don’t get me wrong, a couple of them aren’t necessarily new, unknown or even upcoming, but I do feel they are all immensely talented, sadly underrated, and would certainly benefit from some extra exposure. Brymo Brymo is easily at the top of this list, and deservedly so. I consider him a blessing to our music industry and he would benefit greatly from some international exposure. Brymo’s last studio album ‘Tabula Rasa’ isn’t only the best Nigerian album of 2014, but one of the best albums I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. He is a real Juggernaut, and Jay Z would be lucky to have him. Standout Track: Je’le O Sinmi Simi Simi is seriously one of our most versatile songstresses. Her vocal prowess is no joke, and she manages to masterfully blend Pop and Soul while never ever abandoning her Nigerian roots. She is definitely going places, “discovered” or not, but I’d much rather have Jay Z sweep her away before we get a chance to push her into shameless commerciality (like we did Praiz). I mean, I can already see it now ‘Beyoncé – [insert feminist title] Ft. Simi.’ Standout Track: Tiff Lindsey In an industry where everyone is dizzyingly similar, Lindsey is a serious breath of fresh air. This amazing singer, songwriter and guitarist is in my opinion, the future of Nigerian Soul music. A Project Fame West Africa alumni, Lindsey won me (and a lot of people) over with her stellar vocal work on ‘Jehovah’ with M.I off the ‘Talk about It’ album. Trust me, if anyone deserves to be talked about, it’s her. Standout Track: Taxi Boogey OMG guys, a Nigerian rapper who can actually rap. Boogey has a lyrical dexterity unlike any Nigerian rapper I’ve ever heard. This guy is criminally underrated, and this needs to change ASAP. I mean, the dude legit murdered M.I on “Ridiculous” off “Illegal Music 2, delivering the most memorable verse on an already very memorable album. How many more accomplished verses does this dude need to drop before he is given a proper shot? Standout Track: Sanctum Black Magic I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Black Magic song I didn’t immediately love. A talented rapper, singer and songwriter, this guy really lives up to his stage name, delivering tracks so immediately infectious, someone seriously has to be chanting magic words in the background. He hasn’t really been on the scene for a while and I as a dedicated fan need a lot more of his brilliant blend of Hip Hop, Afrobeat, and Soul. Standout Track: Repete Storm Rex To be very honest, when I think underrated. I think Storm Rex. When I first discovered the awesomeness of this woman, I had to slap myself for being so late to the party. She is not only great on her own, but she still always manages to deliver the standout verse on any song she gets featured on, and would easily become a household name with the right exposure. Tidal seems like a pretty good place to start, right? Standout Track: Blessing Suté Suté is undoubtedly one of the brightest upcoming rappers in the game right now, and sadly the last name on this list you’re likely to have heard about. Well, you might want to get yourself acquainted with his work, because he is the future of Nigerian rap (feel free to quote me). I also think he would be the easiest artist on this list for Jay Z to work with without tampering with this style. Standout Track: Badagry Well, whether any of these guys gets picked up by Mr. Shawn Carter or not, these are still some of the best Nigerian artistes working today, so please – please, please, please – don’t let them fizzle out unappreciated. But at the end of the day, these are still just my opinions. So if you think I missed anyone, feel free to sound off in the comments. Liked this post? Saw dis on Vanguard Newspaper As a prominent young Nigerian artiste, Reekado Banks has worked with the cream of the Nigerian music industry including Don Jazzy, Illbliss, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Korede Bello, Di’Ja and Wale. The story of his rise to prominence however, has not been smooth, as the Mavin Records recording artiste disclosed during a #MySuperStarStory interview. Born Solomon Ayoleyi Hanniel, the Ondo State indigene revealed that after informing his parents of his intention to pursue a career in music and getting their blessing, he had to hawk blenders in traffic and work as a manual labourer at a construction site in a bid to earn some money to use to record. He also revealed that at one point, a lecturer at the university told him that he will never make it after preventing him from retaking a test he missed. His turning point came with the Mavin Records audition where he was picked out of over 5,000 hopefuls. The dreadlocked act, now popular for his ballad “Katapot” credited this triumph to God. In his words, “There is no amount of sacrifice that was enough to get me something this big.”
