JigsawKillah: Yuzjet Cisse7575 Pdizzle Qaisar1 Can we look for these elements of poetry listed below in this poem above before we close? repetition (often with variation) patterns of stressed and unstressed syllables alliteration occasional internal rhyme (rhyme occurring inside a line) occasional rhyme at the ends of lines (often imperfect rhymes such as half-rhymes and pararhymes ) patterns of assonance (syllables in which the vowel sounds are the same) imagery |

You see, these devices are best illustrated than described. Let's analyze a short poem by a certain D.H Lawrence. Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into are awake through years with transferred touch, and go on glowing for long years. And for this reason, some old things are lovely warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them. Things Men Have Made, by DH Lawrence (1929) Take a closer look at this poem above. Look at the lines, can you point out the devices used in this poem? |

Since we now know what a Free Verse should contain, can we write one? Can we identify them when we see them? |
Are we moving to the permanent site already? |
Characteristics of free verse Free verse is not prose set out in lines. Like other sorts of poetry, it is language organised for its musical effects of rhythm and sound. However, these effects are used irregularly, not according to any completely fixed pattern. the poetic devices that are often found in free verse are repetition (often with variation) patterns of stressed and unstressed syllables alliteration occasional internal rhyme (rhyme occurring inside a line) occasional rhyme at the ends of lines (often imperfect rhymes such as half-rhymes and pararhymes ) patterns of assonance (syllables in which the vowel sounds are the same) imagery |
Qaisar1:Punctuality Prefect Comes Late In the Absence of more questions ATM, I'll simply move the ministry further |
yuzjet:Glad to have you on board Mr Yuzjet Cisse7575 see your questions have been answered? any further? |
Free verse is an open form of poetry. It does not use consistent meter patterns, rhyme , or any other musical pattern. It thus tends to follow the rhythm of natural speech. Free verse is verse in lines of irregular length, rhyming (if at all) very irregular. Note: nowadays some poets and critics reject the term 'free verse' and prefer to speak of 'open form' poetry or 'mixed form' poetry. Yet, Despite it being called 'Free' it is named free verse only with a price tag! During my secondary school days, my Physics teacher used to say 'In Freetown, nothing is free. And you'll agree with me that it is true. Do you actually agree with that? I mean how can they call it free verse when it isn't free? It looks free with its definition but there are things that qualifies it as a free verse. things Like..... |

I'm continuing from were my partner Donifez stopped last week. FORMS OF POETRY As we all know, Poems are classified into forms and then we identified FREE VERSE as the mother of all Poetry forms. But have you wondered what a free verse looks like? I posted one last week. Does it match with your expectations? No? Yes? Confused? Too Long? To scattered? Well, as the ministry moves forward, we'll see if you're right about your thoughts |
