I must express my disappointment wit most comments here. It appears every post has become North VS south, Ibo VS hausa as if we are from different continents. The development of abuja as posted on dis page is entirely a private sector driven/initiative (except for FIRS) by individuals, banks and conglomerates and has nothing ti do wit government nor niger-delta money. I wonder where dis pple are getting their information. Does it mean we dont watch NTA, channels, AIT, TVC, Silverbird, Galaxy etc news? How can we be living in naija and not know wats happening therein? Am not surprised sha, wen many display their ignorance e.g someone saying sokoto is in kano, lokoja In Gongola state, Awka part of middlebelt wen I know states and capital are taught in Nursery school while knowledge of atlas is before primary 4. Abuja is the capital of Nigeria so irrespective of whether d president is ibo, yoruba, delta, hausa, berom or kuteb our money will be used to develop it as was same wen Lagos was capital. Before u even cry foul, ask yourself is abuja solely occupied by Northerners? Dis facilties, is it only used by d North? The developers, are they frm d North? I dont live in abuja but d last time I visited, frm marraraba to karu looks like Enugu cos abt 70% are ibos, d major hotels there are owned by ibos, d taxi drivers are yorubas and ibos, most of d civil servants at d top are yorubas,u have a lot of naija-deltans in kubwa, bwari, karimu etc. So if u ask me, abuja dat u think you know (except for d hinterland) is occupied mostly by non-northerners. |
Sometimes I wonder if opposition means talking all d time. If he fulfills d electoral promises within 60 days, wat wil he be doin in d remaining days of the 4 years tenure? Next, I guess u guys wil start saying govt is no longer doin anything! |
I am surprised that of all the things d man said this was d only thing u picked and u presented it as if d JEGA meant he will not conduct election on dat date |
Somebody educate me, why is the man buying cement factories and other government run companies, only to resale? |
I wont say forced, was at the bank yesterday and nobody stopped me from entering until i wash my hands. Yesterday, at the Jos branch, i didnt even notice there was a hand washing session just by the corner. It was on my way out that i saw them, so i asked casually if i was supposed to wash while going out or it must be coming in only, they say i could. Took the liberty to wash using their liquid wash and warm (Jos weather calls for it) water. I noticed all their staff on the counter wore gloves. I started wondering since they barely shake hands with customers, what was the gloves for? i thought they said we couldn't contact ebola by touching money. If we can, then, LORD have mercy cos a lot of cash has moved from Lagos/Portharcourt to other parts of the country. |
I just dont buy these reasons as being enough to have a 65% hike. 1. The cost are specific to Lagos, so does cement cost higher in lagos compared to Jos, Calabar, Enugu. Then do you plan that cos you spend so much to build the hotel you must recoup your investment in 5-10 years, so you can revert the price? 2.The cost of diesel is lower in Nigeria compared to other countries, though i know many African countries have better electricity but pay higher bills on utilities than naija. 3. If you say cost of generator makes you charge higher, come on how many drums of diesel do you use a day?At most 2, which is N75,000 in d blackmarket( N37,500 each). that is the cost of 1 - 2 guest depending on the hotel, so are you not ripping off the other guest? we know such hotels have a lot of guest daily plus make extra money from other services (meals, car hire, gym, drinks, halls, garden bar, etc). 4. Security. Most big hotels the world over have private security hired to take care of the premises with government security for the streets. Are we now saying the Naija private security outfit pay higher than their counterparts from other African countries? How come the security in my office (sourced from private company) barely get a minimum wage? 5. This naija hotels pay their staff very low wages. So we cant say this builds on their operational cost. 6. Provide their own water as one of the reasons for expensive nature. I maybe naive but my knowledge of boreholes is that once you drill it is a life long thing and requires only servicing every now and then. So if you use this same diesel bought earlier (above) to pump water, how does it add to overall cost of maintenance? 7. Some of this hotels only have bed without breakfast facility compared to London where for 50 pounds you will have a bed plus buffet breakfast, which should increase cost. I personally think its just because Lagos has the market, hence hoteliers easily exploit people. Jonathan Patterson a hotelier of 30 years in an interview granted Vanguard on 13th December, 2013 said Lagos is a popular destination so with the market drive, hotel prices just keep rising. The same view echoed by Senator Afikuyomi, commissioner of Tourism. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/05/why-hotel-rooms-are-expensive-in-lagos/. What baffles me, old hotels that you will expect to charge lower are at times more expensive than the newly build. |
I just observed some contradicting statements in this report and i wonder what is happening in the pen business. I wont bore you with that, my only concern is: 1. How 2 trailer load of tank will equal 30 tanks. Perhaps a new make of trailer never seen in the country. 2. Rusty tanks with UN inscription can be said to resemble new tanks ordered. 3.If around 9pm, the trucks were on Abuja - Lokoja road, when will they reach Maiduguri (a journey of about 12 hours cruising at 130km/hr) 4. Wouldnt it have been easier for barracks close to Borno told to supplly tanks from their armory.e.g yola, bauchi, Gombe, Makurdi, Kaduna, Jos. |
Thank God for the holy spirit that convicts by ministering to us. Pls hurry up and make the needed adjustments , do away with make up's, wig, attachment, nail polish, trousers, skimpy attire etc in your life cos heaven is so holy a place that what we think may not matter does touch the Saviour of all mankind and JESUS remains his name |

Comrades, dont forget we have many nairalanders that cant afford you status symbol with all the 2010 - 2012 camry, avalon, honda etc. Bring us home to talk cars 1996-2004 (Toyota) which are common with most Naija guys and you will be helping us a lot. For me i have been using Honda since just want to try Toyota but still confused between Corolla 2003 and Camry 2004 The 2003 corolla has speed of 180km/h and most pple say its light especially when driving at 120km/h. you can easily loose control if a tanker/trailer passes you. the camry 2004, it is big but that's not the problem, my mechanic said you need 200k to change engine, over 100k for gear box. this are the areas i feel one needs to be prepared for since fairly used/toks cars may end up with this problem. in addition, how can buy a car for 1.5million then (God forbid) will have to squeeze out that much to change engine/gear box if faulty. When i can get opel, smallar honda (academy, halla etc) engine for 50-60k at most. My heart is with the camry LE 2003 - 2004 but i need somebody to encourage me more (between now and tomorrow) if it is worth the buy.

i like the car but i live in jos how to deliver is my problem plus if you build in the cost of delivery. 1m would have been ok with me.08025355883 |
Nobody replying, does it mean none of the 44 people who read this post have an idea what a Toyota Camry 2004 (big daddy) is/does/works/performs. maybe i should post it on the auto page?
|
All the hype about the 2004 camry seem to be dying down with some people opting to sale theirs, others giving it funny names like big for nothing, orobo, big daddy, some more slighting it for not being elegant/beautifully designed.have even read comments of fear cos toyota recalled some of her vehicles cos of manufacturing defect. Now can somebody who knows the pros and cons of this car fill me in on why you will/will not advice your best friend/mother/wife/husband (anybody closest to you) to buy/own a Toyota Camry 2004 model? Badly need to know before i make the wrong choice.I currently drive a Rover 600. Thank you very much |
A few hours ago its reported there was a bomb blast in jalingo, area called mallam joda not too far from NTA targeted at a local drinking joint.injured rush to d hospital.called and a friend there confirmed. this is coming barely 24 hours after a blast at a very local drinking joint/brothel killed about 4. can jalingo residents fill us in on the latest pls. |
Some use Rover engine, the best are those with Honda halla engine. Have you ever used a honda halla or academy? thats what rover 600 is, a blend (interior like academy, engine halla)of the two. It is a strong car, fast (though not accelaration), good on naija roads, fuel economical, mechanics evrywhere, parts cheap, interior is roomy, boot spacious. Have been using one bought last year march have only changed door handle and one of the shocks (note am almost always using my AC). I noticed the inner door handle if pulled carelessly by passenger spoils easily, any problem with the glass winding system, change the winding engine (2-3k) dont repair cos after a while you will go back to your panel beater. |
I want to change my car and the 2 are on offer for about the same amount. 1 is a jeep the other a saloon. Its good having a jeep but better having a reliable car that will last a while and mechanic doesnt have to tell you we have to go to Lagos/Onitsha/Cotonou (i live in Jos) to get the part and it will take 5 days. I have read up the reliability, features, consumer comments on both cars but mostly foreign users who bought these car's new. I want a naija user who has used the imported/Cotonou/Belgium/Tokumbo versions of this cars. What i want to know specifically are: 1) fuel consumption 2) reliability on naija roads 3) how solid on long journey 4) can mechanics work on it easily if for instance you are stuck in the village 5) are the parts readilly available 6) speed, turn at road bends, acceleration etc 7) any other obsevation is very welcomed (Modify) (Quote) (Report)

Any speed from 200 above is tantamont to asking for your grave. I may agree to be your passenger if your car has a 280 or over max speedometer. For me sha have driven 160-170 km/h with a Honda Halla, MG Rover 600, Toyota Carina II, on Jos-Bauchi, Gombe-Bauchi, Mayo lope-Jalingo, Wukari-Mutum Biyu roads.had to reduce at a point cos of other Drivers who may become a problem for me on the highway in addition supposing my break fails or i hit a pothole.Gosh it's fun but when i remember how sweet life is, am forced to check myself before i wreck myself. |
My man (femmy), you are doing a great job, keep it going. How much will it cost me to get a Toyota Corolla 2005 auto? How much for manual? How about the 2004 version? I live in Jos, how much for delivery? |

I am not saying it is right to slap a person even in the name of witchcraft but i have seen in Islam and Christianity where persons accused of withcraft are flogged, chained, left out in the cold in the name of exorcising the spirits. My question, which is easier slapping a perceived witch or chaining her to a pole for months with various degree of cain, koboko etc lashes daily? If a suspected witch comes close to you will you agree to slap him/her knowing he/she could be a threat if you treat them with kid gloves? For me i wont take it lightly if a so called/suspected witch comes close to me. I know we do not wrestle against flesh&blood, but many of us have been slapped in a molue for stepping on somebody's leg. How many slaps should a witch get then? |
I am happy you are now beginning to see the other side of the story. Let me add that when Taraba State was created Kwambai, the two Jenuwas, Bika were part and parcel of Takum. The Kuteb's even then with numerical strength were the Chairman after democratic elections, had about 7 councellors compered to Chamba/Jukun's 2, that already tells you who owns the town of takum. barely after 2 years, the Chamba's discovered Takum and Ussa were dominated by Kuteb's and they had not LG to call their own since they were still tussling to take over Donga by crook or hook. they now started this war on the day of a Kuteb festival when they knew every kuteb man will be busy in celebration mood, unarmed, unprepared, unwilling to fight.many soul died that day unfortunately.then they now used the police, MOPOL through the then Commissioner of Police to ransack Kuteb villages, go from house to house of every Kuteb man in Takum and kill/burn the property (the agenda-to ensure no kuteb man is found in takum). Most of them now migrated to Jalingo (state capital) that is why you have so many kuteb taking over jalingo so much so that you have over 5 major parts of Jalingo metropolis (NTA ward, Abuja ward, Roadblock, ATC, Magami,) they are the dominant tribe.suffice me to add that the commissioner of police then was caught on camera directing his troops to kill all kuteb's, chase them out of takum, ensure no one remains.which was presented during Oputa panel. The Chamba man is deceitful and will neve tell you the truth but ThankGod some God fearing amongst them have started owning up to the truth. As for GSM, we now have 4 networks and more coming soon. the town remains in shambles, no good houses being build, cos people fear the crisis may return especially, the refusal of government to appoint a Kuteb replacement for the late chief (Ukwe) of takum |
