The accident occurred yesterday afternoon at Igbogui village in Benin and involved three heavy duty vehicles; a Young Shall Grow Motors luxury bus, a fuel tanker with registration number GA 71 XA, and a Dangote truck carrying cement.

Over 100 people were burnt to death when the fuel tanker exploded following the accident. The fire spread to surrounding shops and burnt several cars packed nearby. Survivors have been rushed to the hospital while rescue efforts by the Federal Road Safety Corps & Civil Defence Corps continues

Two women, Temitope Abigeal and Temitope Remi, have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ebute Meta on a three count of conspiracy, assault and grievous harm.

Abigeal (26) and Remi (28), choristers at a Cherubim and Seraphim church at Ebute Meta, were alleged to have assaulted Hannah Okurabe (18) with razor blades at Abule Nla junction, a few metres away from the church.

The incident was said to be the result of an earlier fight over the church’s choirmaster, Joseph Unuigbe, a father of two. Joseph Unuigbe is married to a lady who is also a member of the same church.

Hannah is presently receiving treatment at the Lagos Island General Hospital, while Abigeal and Remi have been remanded in Kirikiri until they meet their bail terms.

N38,900 Monthly Allowance for Youth Corps Members is “Nothing but rumours” – NYSC Director General


In the past few days, a rumour has been trending on social media among prospective and current Youth Corps members over the increment of their monthly allowance.

The rumour was that the monthly allowance from the Federal Government was going to be increased from N19,800 to N38,900 and that some corps members in Nasarawa and Abuja camps had already began collecting the increased allowance.

However, refuting this rumour yesterday, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier General Nnamdi Okore Affia said there is no plan by the federal government to increase corps members’ monthly allowance.

Daily Trust reports that while addressing the 2013 Batch A corps members deployed to Katsina State, General Affia cleared the air on the rumour.

“To be honest with you there is no plan to increase your monthly allowance; all you have heard is nothing but rumours. If there is such plan I must be the first person to know but as far as I am concerned there is no official plan to increase your allowance; even if the plan is on the pipeline, it has not reach my level. Your monthly allowance is still N19, 800.”

While this rumour was trending, there was a debate over whether the Youth Corps members actually deserved to have an increase in their monthly allowances or not. Some argued that they did, while others said N38,900 was too much and was an allowance some people who had even completed their service year didn’t have the luxury of.

The man of God told the court that he has been doing everything possible to reconcile with his wife whom he married on the 10th of July 1999 but she has refused his pleas. The affair is said to have caused a lot of  anxiety in his Church. A lot of their followers hope they will settle this out of court.

he journalist is Biodun Kupoluyi, the publisher of E24/7 Magazine. He is alleging that the senior pastor of Household of God, Chris Okotie, has barred him from attending his church after he wrote a story alleging that Rev Okotie is dating an undergraduate named Miss Naomi Hoffman. I received the news from a man claiming he's representing the church that he has been directed by the pastor of the church and members of Household of God church that I should not come and worship with them. His reason, he said, was premised on E24-7 magazine's expose - pastor Chris finds new love, says I will not get married again, but may opt for surrogacy soon. I found it shocking that a day after the publication hit the streets, his media department sent a release out and it confirmed our story. He actually made those statements and we reported it. I think he did not think anybody could have known about his romance with the girl, Naomi. He was caught off guard..but as a journalist, I owe our teeming readers that responsibility. I feel fulfilled, though I will miss his theatrics, his stage performances and verbosity.

My perception of the church and my respect for the man has changed. He is not a serious preacher of the gospel. The job of a good shepherd is to seek a lost sheep, not to ban a sheep or send away a sheep from the fold. It is only in our environment that these kind of things happen. Because I worship in a church, I can't write the story of the pastor even if the pastor is doing what is wrong? But the pastor and the church will hail me if I praise him or do a PR story for them.

Despite the ban, if journalistic duties calls I will go there. In fact we were there the following week after I was barred. It was the week he claimed Christians can do tattoos and plastic surgery. We went with a whole crew, looking forward to a show down. I'm a free citizen. I can not be cowed. And I stand by my story on Naomi. That is not disputable!

Just days after the Lagos state government clamped down on street beggars with some arrests, it has turned its lights on distributors and sellers of pornographic materials.

On Tuesday, four distributors of pornographic materials were arrested at Cele Bus Stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway by the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit. Those arrested, Yinka Dada (25) Udoh Nne (29) Sylvester Obodoe (18) and Poopola Bamidele (18) will be arraigned before the Special Offences Court at the taskforce yard and prosecuted for selling obscene materials.

The Lagos state government had earlier banned the selling or distribution of pornographic materials in the state.

PM News reports that the Taskforce Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, said the arrest was made because there had been complaints by the residents of the resurgence of pornographic materials on the streets of Lagos.

“We got complaints from the residents that pornographic materials were sold in some parts of the state. We had cleared the materials off the streets of Lagos before but the traders are back to business again. We have to arrest the situation again. We are going to charge those arrested to court to serve as deterrent to others,” he was quoted as saying.

According to him, displaying pornographic materials on the streets where youngsters could see them has negative influence on the children.

“Whenever you see pornographic materials being displayed, you always see children viewing or looking at them. It influences them negatively. We have a culture in Yoruba land which we must abide with. We are not infringing on their rights to sell, but they are infringing on the rights of these children by exposing such obscene materials to them.”

The culprits admitted to PM News that they knew selling pornographic materials is prohibited in any part of the state. One of them, Obodoe, said he knew the act was outlawed in the state but resorted to hawking pornographic materials to make a living.

At least 20 students of Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State, were shot dead last night by unknown gunmen. The men invaded the off-campus student hostel around 11 last night, rounded some students up, lined them up, asked a few questions and then separated the students into two groups. One group was allowed to go and the other group, with about 20 students, were all shot dead - execution style.

Students in the hostel have started leaving for fear of another attack. The school is yet to issue a statement about the murders.

Over 190 Air Nigeria passengers arrived Gatwick Airport 8:30 yesterday morning to fly back home ...and for 8 hours, they were stranded at the airport. The travelers were informed of lack of 'fuel' to fly the aircraft to Lagos, and were told to contribute extra £40 each for purchase of 'Aviation Fuel!

Eventually, the plane left Gatwick airport at 4:30 pm and arrived Nigeria at about 12:30 early this morning.

After spending extra hours before leaving Gatwick for Lagos, and arrived way past midnight, passengers were shocked to be informed to come back for their luggage!

A lot of them are so mad about what they went through yesterday and are planning to sue the airline company and it's chairman, Jimoh Ibrahim. Got this info first hand from passengers aboard the aircraft last night.

From tomorrow Monday September 10th, Air Nigeria will no longer fly...for at least a year.

A spokesperson for the Horst Schmidt Klinik in Wiesbaden, Germany has revealed that the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan was in a bad state of health when she arrived at the hospital last week.

The hospital’s official, who confirmed that initial records showed that Mrs. Patience Jonathan had earlier been treated for food poisoning in Nigeria before being brought to the Horst Schmidt Klinik, however, said she was responding to treatment after she had undergone a major surgery for a ruptured appendix to remove the poisons in her intestine.

During an eight-minute telephone chat yesterday through telephone number +49611433436, a senior consultant of the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mrs. Jonathan was brought to the hospital early last week after the management of the hospital had been contacted and briefed on the deteriorating health condition of the first lady.

She said that Mrs. Jonathan was getting better but added that the hospital management would ensure that she was fully fit before she would be allowed to go back to Nigeria.

When we demanded further details, the hospital official said it was improper and unethical for her to make such details available to a third party, ending the call and refusing to pick up subsequent calls.

A reliable source in Aso Rock told us that the decision to take the First Lady to Germany for better treatment was borne out of the fact that her medical aides in Nigeria complained that they could not get accurate diagnosis as a result of insufficient medical facilities in the country.

Twelve days after she left the country, her Media Assistant, Ayo Osinlu, yesterday said there is no definite date yet for her return.

In a telephone conversation yesterday, Osinlu insisted that Mrs Jonathan is on a foreign trip to take a well deserved rest. "I can tell you authoritatively that the First Lady was not lifted by any air ambulance to anywhere, all those things are lies. 

"Nobody is going to put a gun on my head and force me to talk when I have no fresh information," he said.
Asked when the First Lady will return, he retorted: "I don't know. I don't have any information on that.  You don't expect me to call her and ask her when are you returning, is she my mate? Ours is to ensure everything is in order to receive her once her return is made known to us. I do not have fresh information on that".
Osinlu had on Sunday laboured hard to justify Mrs Jonathan's sudden disappearance from the public.
“If you look at her itinerary in August, you will be wondering how she was able to accomplish that,” he told a national daily.
