Can we win at Anfield?

The answer will solidify our status quo as a club to be feared going into next season, just like Bayern and Barca are feared that year.
True.
At least, we've banished the Tottenham's demon(winning in their home this season after not doing so since 2014). If we can win at Anfield or at least get a draw and we get a result at Etihad, then this team will be one to be very feared entering into next season

We are now in the crucial part of the season but I trust the boys to be able to scale through.

Liverpool at Anfield up next. We've not won at Anfield since 2012. Well, that isn't too bad(cos I wouldn't read much meaning to it since they're a big team). What's bad is the batterings we've been receiving consistently since 2014 whenever we go there. I just hope the boys mentality and doggedness will see us prevail there. At least, let us don't lose.

9 more matches to go. The boys are pumped up, the team are pumped up, the fans are pumped up. Let's go!!!!

COYG!!!

The team did it🔝
Roland17, you remember when I said we shouldn't be overly worried about us getting found out (That it was just a blip which most teams do encounter) and that I trust that just a little tweak from Arteta would make us go back to our winning runs again (just as we did when we lost against Man u).

That little tweak (Trossard in CF position) to add fluidity in our attack have made us gun blazing once again. Imagine us scoring at least 3+ goals in every match bar Leicester since after the loss to Man city. In fact, we've won 7 matches in a row since that time, something we didn't even do during the first half of the season cool

Sometimes in life when you don't get what you wanted initially, it can be a blessing in disguise. Signing Trossard over Mudryk in a season where we needed a ready impact for the frontline has tuned out to be a master stroke.
God works in mysterious ways!! grin grin

This is the kinda impact we really needed for that title push, not someone who might be finding his feet. I don't know if Mudryk would have excelled here but getting Trossard for as cheap as 20m is such a big masterstroke from us.

Best January signing this season. Imagine getting 7 assists in less than 4 months

Arteta wins fourth Manager of the Month of 2022/23

Mikel Arteta has been named Premier League Manager of the Month for the fourth time this season, after being awarded March’s award.

The boss once again came out on top of the voting after guiding us to four wins from four during the month, collecting the maximum 12 points from our matches against Everton, Bournemouth, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

That saw him edge out fellow Spaniards Pep Guardiola and Unai Emery, as well as Roberto De Zerbi to see him add to his triumphs in August, November/December and January.

It is his fourth win from five nominations this campaign, and takes his overall tally to six during his time in charge of us - moving him to joint-ninth in the all-time standings.

He is now just one behind Jurgen Klopp’s record of five successes during a single season, which occurred during Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning season of 2019/20.

Saka named PL Player of the Month for March

Bukayo Saka has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for March.

It is our forward’s first divisional success of his career, as he becomes the 22nd different player to win the prize in our colours - the most of any other club in the league's history.

Buyako started the month with a goal and assist in our 4-0 win against Everton, and ended it with three goal involvements in Sunday's win over Crystal Palace, which saw him get on the scoresheet twice to become the first player to reach double figures for goals and assists in the division this term.

That scintillating form saw him come out on top of the voting, ahead of teammate Leandro Trossard - who laid on five assists during the month - as well as Newcastle United's Alexander Isak, Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Brighton & Hove Albion's Alexis Mac Allister and Tyrone Mings of Aston Villa.

It is the second time this season the prize has been handed to one of our squad, with Martin Odegaard receiving the November/December award.
Congratulations to Arteta and Saka for winning player of the month. The 2nd time this season our player and coach have won player of the month in the same month. We're entering the crucial part of this season, hopefully we carry on the good month.

And I also hope that the Arteta's "Coach of the Month" jinx doesn't strike tomorrow

At Man City he was either a left winger or a centre forward and he got a lot of goals. But he did not spend time in build up or in deep position as he does for Arsenal. In fact the only attribute he brought with him is his pressing.

I praise his energy and still do. Do get it twisted, I am not complaining about his lack of goals, as long as we keep winning. But if he feels he has to score then he knows what to do. It totally depends on him.
Lol... Was this not the reason of the genesis of our argument ni? grin

You misunderstood all my points.

Let me clarify for the last time.

GJ may get scoring chances, my point is he will find it difficult to finish them off due to lack of composure as he is always coming from deep. It is a difficult task to demand for a striker. No need to say more.

My point on Tierney is that if Arteta needs width, he will rely more on Tierney as opposed to if he needs invertion he will rely more on Zinchenko. Please note the bolded. That does not mean that any of them can't play the roles but that we know who is better at what.

If a non football fan reads your comparison between GJ and Nketiah, it will be assumed that Nketiah is a better player than GJ. But like you said, let's leave it for another day.
But Is this not his style of play even right from Man city or am I mistaken something?

Is these attributes not one of the chief reasons he was bought?

At least, I remember correctly that when we were linked with him, I explicitly (joyfully) said here that at least we are linked with a striker who's a good all-rounder. During preseason and his early season form, why didn't you raise alarm that what he's doing should be limited. Instead I remember one of your quotes where you're praising his energy.

So why are you now attributing those energy you praised as what is affecting him?

Ellexy:
Nah bruh Chelsea has about 11 first team players out through injury, their struggles are understandable. We had no such excuse, we had our full team stinking up the place matchday after matchday. We had player factions, the manager constantly throwing the team under the bus and the players refusing to play to his instructions.

Believe me this Chelsea team still dey learn work.
This is you assuming the 2nd team players aren't good enough to take points of small teams??

Cucurella was bought for 60m+ to the fanfare of almost everyone here(aside Ibi.me) because he'll be a very good cover for Chilwell. The only person not having reliable cover(at least on paper) is James. Koulibaly was greeted which much fanfare here. Silva is gold. Kepa was already a first teamer before Mendy injury, so that's back 5 complete

Havertz is mostly used as 9(and is always available) and they bought Auba as another 9 option. Sterling have always been available too as well as Mount and Ziyech. Jorginho and loftus cheek have always been available for. Then there's Zakaria(a seasoned Switzerland int'l) on the bench available since Oct/November who can pair with Jorg that potter decides not to use until last week

So you mean all these players I mentioned aren't good enough to get up to (at least) 17 points of a possible 27points up for grabs?

At least Man u no bad reach laidis and I'm saying this as a neutral who watched both without any emotions attached. At least you guys even competed for Top4 till at least April/early May

I agree that Jesus could have made a difference in the game against Newcastle because of his ability and willingness to create overloads in every area of the pitch thus giving the team a man advantage every time we have the ball.

That's a testimony of how hardworking the player is. That's the job of the playmaker. I have noticed that Odegaard positions himself on one area of the middle while Jesus does the play making on the other side- like having two playmakers and no strikers. If probably that's what Arteta demands from him. It's OK. But if not then it is not OK especially for him as a forward player. Playing forward means his primary goal is to score goals. So if he isn't focused on that it means he is deliberately sacrificing self glory for the good of the team. I hope the sacrifices would be seen when stats (like the ones you have posted- maligning him) are read out.

Yes he does receive the ball in the box, but that's after running all the way from the middle line where he himself have contributed to the buildup. What happens next is that he is no longer in the right composure for a neat finish. This is one area you have not gotten yet. Everyone including himself may feel he should be able to deal with it. May be you feel that good finishing does not require mind and body to be correctly sync, but that's what it is. This is why most strikers like Nketiah, Haaland etc who are focused on goals try to avoid getting too much involved in the buildup. I have used heat maps to clarify this fact.

So if scoring goals really is a desire for GJ, then it is either he focuses more on making goalscoring runs, and positioning or he finds a way to work on himself to be able to compose himself so as to finish off chances. This is a tall order

My grouse with you is concluding that GJ is not clinical without finding out the reason.

Strikers who are good goal scorers don't just become less clinical, something usually is responsible. Either it is psychological or mental pressure. None of this can be said to be affecting GJ.
I'm not maligning him. You're making it seem as if I'm critical of him when what I've been doing all these while is to show you that he's not sacrificing his goals for his the team. I brought you proofs(ie stats) that showed that he's doing all what other strikers are doing (and even better than them) but the only thing missing is just him putting the chances away and you twist it to me saying I'm maligning him. grin
Na wa ooo

There's a big reason why you can't back up your claims since last year with stats or examples to show that his efforts outside of the box is what is making him not having goalscoring opportunities when on the contrary his the one mostly at the receiving end of goalscoring opportunities.

As for the 2nd bolded... I've told you the reason why so many times but if you've never countered it.

What I just understood from you is that you're using what you perceive of a player to judge the player and not what is really happening at the moment.

Jesus is making runs behind the defence, always available for goalscoring opportunities and always at the ends of our chances.... But because he's always involved in buildups you now believed he doesn't run behind defences, not always available for goalscoring opportunities/chances and not always involved in the box like strikers

It's same way you perceived Tierney as playing stretched width and having more crosses because of how he's been playing in previous seasons when in actual fact, he's been playing the inverted role and has less crosses.

Anyone who notices Nketiah's game recently knows that he drops deep too and try to involve in buildups (just like Jesus) but the difference In quality between both players is stark. But of course he's scoring, so you still feel he's still that poacher who doesn't do buildups or involves in midfield play. But this is another talk for another day!!
