Here in John 12:24, Christ was using a simile to express His death and Resurrection and what He would produce, and that he called the "fruit". The fruit that Christ produced is called after His seed. His seed is "Christ" that must die and produce after His kind "Christ-ain". We have Christian because Christ produced after His kind and we know a true Christian by the "fruit'. Gal 5:22-23 have a list of the fruit of the Spirit. Why fruit of the Spirit and not fruit of Christ? Because Christ had to die and what he left with us is the Spirit and also we are born by the Spirit.
