N210 trillion unaccounted for in a country where millions can’t afford food, jobs are scarce, and basic security is a luxury.

Nigeria is not a poor country — it is a rich country captured by a few powerful people.

The tragedy is that while a handful swim in unimaginable wealth, over 150 million Nigerians struggle to survive. This is not just corruption, it is injustice to an entire nation.

HealthBREAKING: Nigeria Records 3 Fresh Omicron Cases by Joetota(op): 3:07pm On Dec 07, 2021
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed three more cases of Omicron COVID-19 variant in Nigeria.

In a statement on Tuesday, the agency stated that the fresh Omicron cases were detected in persons with recent travel history to South Africa.

“The NCDC through the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) continues to coordinate genomic surveillance activities across the country to sequence all positive COVID-19 samples from international travellers arriving in Nigeria. This includes sequencing of positive samples from international travellers from October 2021 to date.

“The Delta variant remains the dominant variant and so far, we have not seen the replacement of this variant by the new Omicron variant as observed elsewhere. The Omicron variant is a source of global concern because of its increased risk of transmissibility and its potential to escape protective immune responses induced by natural infection and/or vaccination.

CrimeArik Pilots Foil Robbery Attempt On Aircraft. by Joetota(op): 11:10am On Nov 29, 2021
Rather than abating the robbery of aircraft at the holding point of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, has continued as airlines and their aircraft are at the mercy of robbers. On Thursday an Arik aircraft suffered a similar fate, putting passengers in danger.

An air traffic controller (ATC) who spoke to New Telegraph under condition of anonymity disclosed that an Arik aircraft landed at the Lagos International Airport runway from Abuja and on the taxi-way was advised by the tower to hold. While holding, the captain noticed a caution light suggesting the rear cargo holddoor was opened. Sensing danger, the captain was said to have added power, thereafter, the cargo hold-door was closed. He said the captain immediately alerted the Control Tower of the situation amid the absence of the Follow-Me or escort vehicle which, it was learnt, was not provided for the aircraft as it is done for all aircraft cleared to the threshold preparatory for take-off. It is, however, not clear if the same escort service is given to arriving airplanes. “The control tower was informed of what happened to Arik Air last week Thursday. The Arik aircraft landed at the Runway 18/R or what people refer to as the Murtala Muhammed International Airport runway. While taxiing, the captain was instructed to hold for another approaching aircraft. “While holding, the captain noticed a caution light suggesting that the aircraft rear cargo door was opened. The captain alerted the control tower of the presence of people near the aircraft. It was a situation that posed a serious threat to the aircraft. “The report of the incident is with us and has been passed to the respective authority to discourage the presence of unauthorized persons in sensitive areas of the airport,” the source added.

There have been many reported cases of robbery of aircraft cargo by thieves, especially at the Lagos airport. Most of the time, some unidentified persons find their way “miraculously” to the holding areas, open the cargohold of an arriving or departing jet to steal luggage. It was so common with private jets, but over time they became emboldened by extending their action to bigger commercial aircraft. In 2018, Air Peace cried out, alleging that suspected burglars opened cargo hold of Air Peace Flight 7138 taxiing for departure on Runway 18R (A1) of the Lagos Airport.

PoliticsEdo Crisis Deepens As 14 Legislators Storm CCB With Petition by Joetota(op): 9:01pm On Nov 17, 2021
About two years and six months after their election in 2019, 14 members of the Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday stormed the Code of Conduct Bureau in Abuja demanding investigation of their exclusion by the Clerk of the Assembly, Audu Yahaya Omogbai.

While demanding that they should be returned to the legislature because their constituencies have been suffering, they said the refusal of their inauguration was the height of injustice.

They called on the CCB to intervene and rescue democracy, but warned that “Edo will be a dirty reference point in years to come.”

The legislators who were received by the chairman of CCB, Prof. Mohammed Isah, were led by a former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Victor Edohor and former Commissioner for Education, Washington Osifo.

Edohor said, “Your reputation gave birth to your engagement in CCB. Two years and six months, we have not been integrated into the House of Assembly. We, therefore, feel this is the right place to be.”

According to Osifo, the injustice unleashed on them must be corrected to avoid leaving negative history for posterity.

He said, “It is in the spirit of ensuring that peoples rights are not jeopardised that we are here.”

Osifo also gave an insight on how, on March 17, 2019, 24 members of the House of Assembly were nominated, having won election.

He said, “On June 17 2019, ten days after the expiration of the life span of the last Assembly, governor Godwin Obaseki failed to inaugurate us with a proclamation.”

The petition by the aggrieved legislators titled, “Complaint of gross abuse of powers and the precipitation of crisis at the Edo State House of Assembly by Alhaji Audu Yahaya Omogbai-Clerk of the Edo State House of Assembly”, was dated November 16, 2021.

The document was signed by Victor Sabor Edoror, Esan Central; Crosby Eribo, Egor; Washington Osa Osifo, Uhunmwode;

Christopher Ewere Okaeben, Oredo West; Seid Oshiomhole, Etsako West 1; Michael Ohio Ezomo, Owan West and Sunday Aghedo, Ovia South West.

Other signatories were Abdul Ganiyu Audu, Etsako West; Dumez Ugiagbe, Ovia North East 1; Ahmed Oshomah, Etsako Central; Eric Okaka, Owan East; Vincent Uwadiae, Ovia North East 2; Kingsley Ugabi, Etsako East and Uyiosasere Ekhosuehi, Oredo East.

The petition read in part, “Although, the Edo State House of Assembly was purportedly “inaugurated” on June 17, 2019, by the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Audu Yahaya Omogbai, we were wrongfully and unconstitutionally excluded from the said “inauguration”, an act that has precipitated a constitutional crisis in the state where, the EDHA, contrary to the clear and unambiguous provisions of Section 91 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), is presently constituted by a minority of 10 members to the exclusion of 14 members who constitute the majority.

“Sir, our major complaint is that the present impasse at the EDHA was caused deliberately and mischievously by Alhaji Audu Yahaya Omogbai, the current Clerk of the House. This is because he violently violated the provisions of Articles 1 and 9 of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers as contained in the 5th schedule to the constitution aforesaid.

“Specifically, Alhaji Audu Yahaya Omogbai, in gross abuse of his office and powers as the Clerk of the EDHA, deliberately and mischievously concealed the material information as to the date, venue and time of the inauguration of the 7th session of the EDHA from a majority of the then 15 members-elect of the House, whilst he conveyed this vital information to only seven members-elect of the EDHA, who at that material time were perceived to be loyal to the Governor of the state.

“This mischievous act of Alhaji Audu Yahaya Omogbai led to the clandestine and nocturnal “inauguration” of the EDHA at about 9.30pm on the said June 17, 2019, with only seven out of the 24 members-elect of the House.

“Subsequently, Alhaji Audu Yahaya Omogbai, in further abuse of his powers and apparent display of conflict of his personal interest with that of state and national interest purportedly “presided” over the election of a Speaker and a Deputy-Speaker of the EDHA, from amongst the seven minority members of the House present on that day and at his behest. Not done with this shenanigan, he assisted the “Speaker” of the EDHA to selectively and pejoratively “inaugurate” three other members-elect of the EDHA, who in their words “retraced” their steps and became “loyal’ to the Governor of the state.

“Sir, whilst, we need not remind you about the provisions of Sections 1 and 9 of the Code of Conduct as revealed above, it is instructive that Alhaji Yahaya also abused his office by concealing the Assets Declaration Confirmation Slips submitted by the 14 of us member-elect, preparatory to our inauguration as members of the EDHA. This was ostensible to lend credence to the already rehearsed narrative between him and his pay-masters, that the reason we (14 members-elect) were excluded from the inauguration of the House was that we were yet to fill and submit our assets declaration forms. When this was patently a white lie.”

The members-elect demanded that “the clerk of the EDHA be investigated by your bureau for his gross abuse of his powers and apparent conflict of interest in the discharge of his constitutional duties as the Clerk of EDHA.”

The petitioners said, “We believe that his ignoble and uncharitable actions and inactions as outlined above is the immediate cause of the present crisis at the EDHA. We believe that as a public officer who swore to obey the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), he ought to have refrained from getting involved in the murky politics orchestrated by the Governor of Edo State at the EDHA.

“He failed woefully in his sacred duty to be objective, neutral and fair to all members-elect of the EDHA at its inception and infancy in 2019. This we believe ought to be investigated by your sacred institution.”

The CCB chairman in his response promised that the agency would investigate the allegation and make its findings public.

He said, “The CCB is an unbiased umpire. I assure you that we are going to look into your petition thoroughly and apply all that is necessary. Although you came with the press, investigations are meant to be confidential.

“I want to assure you that we will leave no stone unturned to make sure we get all the parties. We will ensure that all sides are heard and we’ll also reach out to all stakeholders.

“We will put our reports together and do the needful. We will not go into the political aspect, but whoever needs to be dealt with will be dealt with accordingly.”

PoliticsMake Peace Or Opt Out — PDP Elders In Edo Tell Obaseki by Joetota(op): 11:10am On Oct 21, 2021
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has been adviced to make peace with elders of his party, the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) or opt out of the party.

The advice is said to have come from an elder of the party (name withheld) that hails from the Central Senatorial zone of the State while engaged in an elders’ meeting of the party which Governor Obaseki also attended.

The elder of the party while addressing the governo was reported as saying, “Governor Obaseki, you should do all you can to make peace with the old members of the PDP so that this harmonisation that you’re talking about can be easily done.

“The people you’re saying should be told to step down so that those he brought from the All Progressives Congress (APC) can be fully integrated into the PDP.

“We all went round the 192 wards in Edo State to sell you to the voters only for you to win and start lifting your shoulders higher than every other party member’s own.

“PDP can never accept that. We are a well organised and disciplined political party. You were not always this arrogant. I guess it is your deputy (Comrade Philip Shaibu) and some few others that are advising you wrongly.

“For your information, I have over forty years experience as a politician and I can say with all sense of responsibility and humility that I am very good at conflict resolution.”

CelebritiesBlame Those That Leaked Sex Tape Not Tiwa Savage – Bbnaija’s Angel by Joetota(op): 7:35pm On Oct 19, 2021
Former Big Brother Naija, BBNaija season 6 housemate, Angel Smith has told Nigerians to stop ‘victim blaming’ Tiwa Savage over the leaked sex tape.

Angel in a thread on her Twitter page said the blame should be on the person who decided to leak the sex tape and not the fact that Tiwa Savage decided to record the act.

Stating that leaking of nudes is a criminal offense, Angel hoped that one of those responsible for such act be made to face the law soon.

Her tweets read: “ The problem will never be the fact that someone made a sex tape or that someone took a picture naked, the problem will always lie with the person that decided to leak it. Stop victim blaming.

“Leaking someone’s nudes is a criminal offense. I hope one of you becomes a scapegoat.”

Responding to those criticising Tiwa Savage for recording the sex tape, Angel said the attention should be diverted to the person who shared the video.

“No matter how many times people tell others not to record themselves, they still will and that’s okay. Divert this attention to people who think it’s okay that people should be punished for their own choices,” Angel wrote.

The curfew on water transportation, which takes immediate effect, is between 7pm and 6am is part of measures to curb the increasing wave of sea-piracy, kidnapping and other forms criminality.

The state government also imposed a ban on the use of 200- horsepower speed boats as another measure to check the upsurge of crime on the waterways.

These measures were announced at the end of the 12th state security council meeting presided over by Governor Douye Diri in Government House, Yenagoa.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting, the Special Adviser on Security Matters 1, Mr. Akpoebi Agberebi, said henceforth no permit would be granted for use of 200-horsepower engines, warning that violators would face the full weight of the law.

He stated that some communities are still parading themselves as landlords have been constituting nuisance by taking the laws into their hands and depriving other citizens freedom of movement.

Earlier in his charge to the newly posted Commissioner of Police to the state, Mr. Benjamin Okolo, Governor Diri expressed the optimism that by his profile, he would add value to the state by curbing crime and criminality.

Diri urged the new police boss to synergise, collaborate and partner with sister security agencies and the state in particular to achieve zero tolerance in crime.

“Let me welcome our newest member to this council, the Commissioner of Police, Ben Okolo. On behalf of members of the state security council, I welcome you to this meeting.

“We believe by your profile, you would add value to the Security Council as well as to our state and ensure that crime and criminality are brought to zero level.

“The creed of this council is that we have zero tolerance for crime and criminality. So we welcome you and believe that you will synergise, collaborate and partner with sister security agencies and with the state government.”
