Politics / Gmb on Rescue Mission by Johfem(m): 10:12am On Feb 13, 2015
The cankerworm known as corruption has continued to diminish our humanity as a people, given that it
comes with abject poverty, penury and want.
When President Goodluck Jonathan ran for
Presidency in 2011, he anchored his campaign on
“fresh air” which in ordinary parlance would imply
change of our situation as a people for the better.
Unfortunately, almost four years down the line
ordinary Nigerians have lamentations and pain to
show in place of the promised “fresh air”.
On daily basis, this writer believes some average-
income Nigerians are buffeted by many phone
calls from friends and relations seeking for
financial assistance, to solve such basic problems
like feeding and clothing. Beggars are found at all
corners of the country, yet a few individuals have
amassed tremendous wealth at the behest of our
federal, states and local governments without any tangible effort to justify for the wealth.
One can easily see through the gambit – that Nigerians are being fleeced by people who have access to
government and public till, and they do this in cahoots with their brief case contractors partners. Flowing
from this malaise, we now have its Frankenstein monster being manifested in insurgency presently
ravaging the entire North East region of Nigeria.
The question is, should we continue in this manner as a nation? Obviously such a situation is
unacceptable, and as a people, we must seek solution towards rescuing the country from the precipice.
Luckily, another round of elections is around the corner, and Nigerians have another opportunity to
liberate themselves from the shackles of bondage imposed on us by the PDP- led administration.
Since 1999, the party and its leaders have betrayed Nigerians by truncating all chances they had to
rebuild Nigeria. This betrayal is mainly attributed to the greed and gluttonous appetite for primitive
acquisition of wealth by a few people with access to power. Therefore, 2015 presidential election offers
Nigerians a golden opportunity to elect General Muhammadu Buhari as the next President.
By doing so, he will bring his wealth of experience
to bear in dissuading public office holders to shun
corruption. Similarly, as a General in the Nigerian
Army, he is better positioned to tackle the menace
of Boko Haram headlong and once more restore
peace and calm to several restive communities in
the North East region.
It is futile, and indeed senseless to believe that the
Jonathan administration can stop the menace of
Boko Haram. To believe so will amount to living a
lie, and time is running out on all of us. The
earlier we take the bull by the horns by electing
General Buhari as our next president, the better
for the peace, progress and oneness of Nigeria.
It is only in an era of peace that people can thrive in their various life endeavours. A situation where we
continue to live in perennial fear will not augur well for development and the Jonathan administration
having spent trillions of naira without nipping the nefarious activities of the Boko Haram in the bud should
step aside, for Buhari to step in and stabilise the polity.
It is not surprising that Buhari is garnering mammoth support across the country, considering his track
record of fighting corruption and insurgency. Today, these are the two major problems confronting us as
people, and unless we elect a leader with the determination to restore sanity to Nigeria, we face the risk of
imminent danger and catastrophe.
Much as I do not want to sound as an alarmist, yet this is the stark reality facing us as a people. We
cannot afford to act Nero and go to sleep while the nation is burning. We must pull back the country from
the brink, or else we shall all suffer for our collective inertia and mindlessness.
Buhari’s likely victory at the polls next month definitely offers a vista of hope that there is, indeed, light at
the end of the tunnel. As the late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo postulated, “all hands must be on deck” if we must
have a chance of reclaiming our humanity from the twin cankerworms of Boko Haram and corruption in
high places.
It is equally consoling that General Buhari in his acceptance speech at the just concluded national
convention of APC had promised to rule Nigeria based on equity, transparency, and good governance. As
a people, we cannot ask for more, considering Buhari’s pedigree as a man that keeps his words. Indeed,
Buhari’s Presidency is the way to go from 2015 thenceforth.

YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A GRADUATE TO KNOW THAT:*I'm not going to vote for someone who once had no shoes and school bags as a student but now has lots of shoes and bags but made students go on strike for about Eight (cool months. *NEVER, I'm not going to vote for someone who could not rescue about 230 school girls but still has plan to rule a country of about 200million people. *NEVER, I'm not going to vote for a grown up man who took advice from a 17year old girl (Pakistan little girl) before he could make his own decision. *NEVER, I'm not going to vote for a black commander of Army who brought white marine soldiers to do his job for him and yet nothing was done. *NEVER, I'm not going to vote for a government who could not provide job for my elder sister/brother who has a Master Degree. *NEVER, I'm not going to vote for a man that Boko Haram are killing his own people everyday and has no plan on how to stop the killing but can’t wait a minute when military took over power in Burkina Faso, he went there to stop the killing over there in Burkina Faso but could not stop the killing in his own country.* I will not vote for a president who went ahead to Kano campaigning and dancing shortly after the Nyanya blast but could postpone his presidential campaign inauguration because he lost his sister.....This is heartless and unexpected of a leader
*Finally, I'm not going to vote for anybody who needs One Billion American Dollar to solve an Insurgency (Boko Haram) while the ordinary man on the street don't even have (#100) hundred naira to eat.
