APC Loses 2,000 members to PDP in Ondo

March 2, 2015

Barely one week after losing 1,500 of its members to the Peoples Democratic Party in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, the All Progressive Congress Party (APC), at the weekend, lost another 2,000 members in the state to the PDP.

The defection took place during a campaign rally led by the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, at Okitipupa and Ilaje local government areas of the state.

The governor and coordinator of the party’s presidential campaign for Southwest, who led the campaign rallies to the council areas to solicit support for the presidential candidate of the PDP, Goodluck Jonathan, and other candidates of the party in the state said the dominance of the PDP in the state is total.

Mimiko thus urged the people to ensure they vote massively for Jonathan to ensure a resounding victory for the president and the PDP. He added that a PDP government at the centre means the state would benefit more from the Federal Government.

At the rally held in Okitipupa, about 2,000 members of the APC, led by Mrs Grace Adenuga, Mr Ejobe Friday, Mr Fagbounle Olakunle and Mr Sunday Omoyeye, defected to the PDP.

The defectors hinged their decision on the achievements of the PDP in the state and at the national level as well as their belief that the President, if re-elected, will implement the recommendations of the report of the National Conference convened by the President last year.

Those who at the rallies, attended by all the PDP leaders from the zone including, Kingsley Kuku, Akintoye Albert, Sola Ebiseni, Oladunni Odu, John Ola Mafo and Eddy Olafeso, among others. Mimiko warned the people not to fall prey to the negative change being propagated by the opposition parties.

He stressed that votes for Jonathan would translate to more dividends of good governance in Nigeria, adding that it is only President Jonathan’s antecedents that can lead Nigeria to the Promised Land owing to his genuine humanitarian services to the nation.

The governor urged them to support a true democrat like the President, who believes in the implementation of the reports of the National Conference in the best interest of all Nigerians.

Benin priest endorses Jonathan’s re-election
March 1, 2015

By Francis Onoiribholo Bureau Chief, Benin

The Isekhure (Chief Priest) of Benin Kingdom, Nosakhare Isekhure, has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term and called on Benin people to vote for his re-election, reminding the Binis that it was the monarch of Benin, Oba Erediauwa, who asked him to go for a second term.

Isekhure, who spoke at his palace when a delegation of the Jonathan presidential campaign group, led by its coordinator, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, visited him, said he was very hopeful that Jonathan has an agenda for this country.

Isekhure, who admitted to be a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that Oba Erediauwa did not only endorse Jonathan but also “gave the necessary impetus for Jonathan to run for a second term.”

“We cannot now turn around and say a new thing. As far as I am concerned, the only candidate I know, despite my political affiliation, is Jonathan.”

He said he travelled across the South-South geopolitical zone and beyond in 2011 canvassing votes for Jonathan, and he was set to do the same thing again because “Jonathan has done well.”

Isekhure, who participated in the National Conference last year, said the President has started a process that will develop the country and not voting for him would be the greatest mistake anyone could make.

According to him, no Nigerian President has ever faced as many challenges as Jonathan, as such, every Nigerian should support him to get the nation out of the woods.

Earlier, Ize-Iyamu said the President mandated him and his team to solicit the support of the chief priest and other chiefs and leaders across the state for his re-election.

Ize-Iyamu also told the Isekhure that the President appreciated what he did for him in 2011 and was looking up to him to repeat the same feat on March 28 to enable him continue his transformation agenda.

Rivers violence: PDP demands arrest ofAPC leaders
Lagos - The Rivers State chapter of the
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called
for the arrest of the All Progressives
Congress’ gubernatorial and senate election
candidates following the alleged assault of
the ruling party’s governorship contender and
senior members.
PDP Rivers State Chairman, Felix Obuah,
blamed the attack on the governorship rally
in Bakana, Degema Local Government Area of
the State on members of the APC and called
for the arrest and interrogation of Dakuku
Peterside, and Otelema Dan Amachree,
respectively.
“They must tell the police what they know
about the ugly and shameful attack on the
PDP governorship candidate Nyesom Wike,
his Deputy, Dr Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, Sports
Minister, Dr Tammy Danagogo and members
of the PDP Campaign Council,” said Obuah.
“The interrogation and arrest of the Rivers
APC governorship candidate, Dakuku
Peterside and Otelema Dan Amachree,
factional Speaker of the Rivers State will
help the police in their investigation to get at
all the APC members involved.”
The PDP Chairman made the call in a press
statement issued by his Special Adviser,
Media, Jerry Needam, while reacting to the
alleged attack on Wike and members of his
campaign council this past Saturday.
He described the attack as “criminal”,
“barbaric” and orchestrated by the APC to
destabilize the state and derail the elections,
having come to the realisation that Rivers
people have resolved to unanimously vote for
the PDP.
Obuah urged PDP members to remain calm
assuring that no amount of attacks on
members by APC, whose officials could not
be reached for comment, would stop the PDP
from taking over power and recover the
resources allegedly stolen from the state.

APC, Who Gave You Private Jets? - FFK Asks

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share

After the recent accusation by the All Progressives Congress that the PDP is planning to freeze the accounts of the APC’s top members, PDP spokesman Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has questioned how APC leaders come to have private jets.

He said that it is interesting that the APC can admit some of their leaders who had once held public office, and some who still hold public office, have private jets, when they have previously claimed the moral high ground.

FFK
Kayode-Fani, the PDP campaign’s director of media and publicity, also claimed that President Jonathan was too busy to pay any notice to APC leaders and their accusations.

He said that the PDP is prepared to humiliate them on March 28 by giving them a crushing defeat.

“It is interesting that the APC has, for the very first time, admitted that some of its leaders own private jets. It will be interesting to know from the APC how these leaders, who either occupied public offices or still occupy public offices, acquired these jets,” Femi Fani-Kayode said.

READ ALSO: Plot With Tinubu: Find A More Meaningful Story To Tell Nigerians – Osinbajo

“In fact, where did the money, with which they procured the jets, come from? And this is the APC whose leaders pretend to occupy a moral high ground and accuse everyone else, except themselves, of malfeasance.

“Once again, it is clear that the APC leaders have become prisoners of their own delusions and they are being held captive by their own hallucinations. This is a clear case of extreme paranoia.

“They are running under the bed when nobody is chasing them. There are no plans to clamp down on anybody in the opposition. Our only plan is to humiliate them before the Nigerian people on March 28 by giving them a crushing defeat,” he said.

Jonathan is facing stiff opposition for the 2015 national election from APC contender Muhammadu Buhari who has so far run a well oiled campaign.

Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is the incumbent governor of Kano State, and the All Peoples Progressive, APC candidate for Kano Central Senatorial constituency. In this interview with select journalists in Kano he spoke on the exit of former president Olusegun Obasanjo from the ruling PDP, local government autonomy, alleged poor state of health of the APC standard bearer and his ambition to represent Kano Central in the Red Chamber. Abdulgafar Oladimeji was there. Excerpts:

The Senatorial election comes on March 28. You are vying to represent Kano Central Senatorial District at the upper chamber. How are you going to contribute to the nation’s development if elected as a Senator?

I want to say to you that after the APC presidential primaries, which by the grace of God and the support of Nigerians; I came second in the election, which I believe many people were surprised because initially, it was thought that the fight was between our two leaders (General Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar). When we came back from Lagos, so many people came here and suggested that under the circumstance, they thought I was much better than the person who got the ticket. In fact, the candidate then was part of the team that came to me to suggest to that; maybe it was based on the experience that I have had over the years especially, don’t forget that I was in the National Assembly as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, I had that experience; I was elected delegate to the National Conference in 1994/1995; and of course, I was governor here before now, I was Minister of Defence; I was in the NDDC and now back in Kano as governor again. I think it was based on this circumstance. I have told you my experience, you can judge to find out who is in a better position to be the senator; but I know very well that the sitting senator now, that we were together with him in the same party. We supported him in 2011 and he became the senator. When we were moving out from PDP, he was one of those who stayed back; and of course, he is not in our party; but he made efforts to come to get the ticket (under the platform of our party) through so many friends, he even came here directly, but I felt at that time it was fair for us to bring him in just because he wanted to get the ticket. Therefore, he had to go back and stayed there and contested to go back to the seat. I believe the senatorial seat requires a very experienced person, somebody who have been tested and trusted and I also believe that my being in the National Assembly again is not just for Kano Central or the state of Kano, I believe is for this country. And as time will tell, we have done well in other capacities and I am sure we will even do better in the National Assembly. There are many national issues that require people with a lot of experience; in addition to what I have told you, don’t forget I was a civil servant for 17 years, and I am sure all these will come together to boost the performance of Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso at the National Assembly.

Pundits observe that you have not been campaigning seriously for the senatorial seat. Is it that you see your opponent as a walkover or you are banking on APC’s popularity in Kano?

You see, what people don’t understand is that most of us in government are easily being sold based on what projects and programmes one has done over time. I think that is the main thing; we are not going to go round and start making promises—these promises are mainly for those who have not been tested and trusted—that is on one side; on the other side, I am the chief coordinator of all the candidates of APC in the state. I sit down together with them and map out strategies on what to do or what not to do and so on so forth. Even today, I went round the city of Kano, on one hand, inspecting projects, on the other hand, campaigning, seeing my people and asking them to support me.
I went there and campaigned; and this campaign is still on. It is not yet over because we still have some weeks. I don’t have 44 local governments to cover as a senator, I have fewer local governments (it is just, maybe, a third of that). We will continue to campaign, to talk to people, but I want to assure you that we are very much ready and by the grace of God, we will get our people by our side. By now, I can assure you that, most people would have made up their minds on who to vote and who not to vote. I believe it is just a matter of time that our winning team in this state will come out with flying colours after the election.

The exit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo from the PDP has been described some of the party leaders as a good riddance. What is your view?

I think it is those people who are the bad riddance to the party, the PDP. I think they said the same thing when we left PDP; and I can tell you every right thinking person in this country, especially, within the PDP, now know that for five of us to leave that party—it was a very big blow to it, there is no question about it. Our influence—the five of us — is not just within the states we control. Probably, you must have seen it during the primary election. If others, Sokoto, Kwara, Rivers, and of course, Adamawa had gone through any primary election at the national level, you would have seen their friends from various states of this country. So, I think they very much underrated our importance in the party; and probably, now, unfortunately for them, they are coming to terms with realities. And I can say the same, or even more with our leader, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo—his exit from PDP was another huge blow to that party; for many obvious reasons: Obasanjo has got supporters not only in Ogun State, not only in the western states, but across the country; and for him to come out to say what he said (because most of us who have worked closely with him know that he is somebody who always tolerate a lot of things.), I have not seen him since he decided to leave the PDP, but I can comfortably say that so much must have happened in the party for him to come out to tear his card and said that he has left the party. Some of these people who made those mistake at the time of our exit, now, they are making the same mistake, and I hope that they will handle in such a way that it doesn’t create more problems for them and even for the country. So, I think PDP has a serious challenge now. In those days when we were telling them to correct few things; many of them were telling us that whether we stay or leave, it doesn’t matter to them. Now, they have really realised that of course, there are some challenges. I had one opportunity to speak to one person then who was the National Chairman of the party, the PDP. Then he was telling me that the PDP was like an elephant, if it had one problem or the other on any part of its body, because it is an elephant, you will hardly notice it! Then we were talking in the context of Kano—meaning whether there is Kano or no Kano, PDP was an elephant, and can do very well without Kano; and you can see Kano being the most populous state in this country, anybody that made that statement then, it is like they didn’t understand. Now, the realities are here and I can assure you that they are becoming jittery. Now, this is how it should be, everybody counts, everybody should be important; and it now certainly that the real politics will be played. That time we were thinking of 16 years, they were so comfortable thinking of 60 years—now, let any chairman of the PDP now go out and talk in that direction.

But the Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido said PDP has no business to do with the five governors that defected to APC. What do you make out of Lamido’s views?

Well, I don’t want to talk too much about the Governor of Jigawa State. Everybody knows that he was part of us. He worked so hard. In fact, he was the leader of the group. He took us to a level that we felt there was no going back, and we were surprised that he had differen

APC has nothing to offer Nigeria –Adikwuru
February 28, 2015

By Nkasiobi Oluikpe / Correspondent, Lagos

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former senior special assistant to Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, Hon. Dennis Adikwuru, has indicated that the All Progressives Party (APC) has no solution to Nigeria’s socio, economic and political challenges and that the party’s presidential flag bearer, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari “is bereft of ideas other than the archaic and draconian military induced approaches which rather dehumanised Nigerian citizens and set the country’s ethnicities and religions on collision course!.

Adikwuru during an interview with Saturday Independent stated that the leadership of APC is made up of ethnic and religious fundamentalists who have no interest of Nigeria’s unity at heart but rather their own immediate concerns.

Wondering how the head of an ethno-regional political group can become the national leader of a national party, he described APC’s national leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as ‘a leading Yoruba tribalist who has succeeded in replacing the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo as the head of the Yoruba political oligarchy’.

Continuing Adikwuru noted: “Buhari is just a name that is synonymous with extremism both in religion and governance as he employs military approaches to everything he does. When a fowl pollutes the air, the ground chases it. Okorocha, the APC governorship candidate in Imo State knows that his days at Doughlas House end in May 2015.

“He knows he has desecrated the Eastern Heartland; committed an abomination unto the Imo womenfolk whom he called prostitutes; dehumanized the youth and future generation of Imo State; disappointed all who supported and voted him to power; he also knows he has destroyed the education sector of the state in the guise of his phantom free education.

Responding to the chances of the PDP governorship candidate to unseat Okorocha, Adikwuru, who is also the PDP campaign team leader in Uvuru Ward 2 in Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo State said that Emeka Ihedioha has galvanized the nooks and crannies of the state in his well articulated grassroots campaign, as a result, has become a household name.

According to a report by International Cable TV Al-Jazeera, Nigeria’s opposition has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of using the fight against Boko Haram as “positive propaganda” to win votes in next month’s election. These accusations follow the release of a video by military commanders showing the army in combat against the armed group. Al-Jazeera’s correspondent Ms. Yvonne Ndege, reports: [WATCH]

Ayo Oyalowo of the All Progressives Comgress speaking with the Al-Jazeera reporter concerning the release of a video by military commanders showing the army in combat against the armed group said;

“This video that has been released for us looks like a joke… if we want to play games let us play games if we want to act movies let us act movies… The government said they have won a battle and they are showing us aerial bombardment but why are they not taking journalists, press people to go to the place… We see a government that believes in propaganda in making delusions look like reality.”

Nigeria’s leading opposition party has often been accused of capitalizing on the onslaught against the country by Boko Haram as a major campaign issue against the sitting President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and the recent victories over Boko Haram is seen to have dealt a big blow to their campaign which assumed high momentum as a Nigerians of the fears by many Nigerians of the group’s amplified dominance. Meanwhile key opposition figures have spoken to water down the impact of the military’s victories as most recently observed in the demand by leading BBOG campaigner Oby Ezekwesili, that the military provide prove of its victory. The opposition party strategists are currently its approaches as it sees the Boko Haram issue as its only and ultimate joker to achieve victory at the polls.

APC loses 1,500 members to PDP in Ondo
February 28, 2015

No fewer than 1,500 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Friday defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Ore, the headquarters of the council area.

The leaders of the defectors, Mrs. Bolanle Taofik, Mr. Abiye Adefisayo, Mr. Akeem Alli Akinsulere and their followers were received into the PDP by the State chairman of the party, Engr Clement Faboyede, at the party’s campaign rally held in Ore.

Speaking at the rally, the state governor and southwest coordinator of the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, stressed the need for the people to vote enmasse for President Goodluck Jonathan and other candidates of the party because of the commitment of the Jonathan administration to infrastructural development of the area.

He cited the Ore/Benin Highway that has been re-constructed by the administration and the on-going rehabilitation of Ore/ Sagamu axis of the road, saying that the development would boost commercial activities and ease transportation in the area.

Dr Mimiko, who described President Jonathan as a credible candidate with sincere desire to transform the socio-economic landscape of the country through his transform agenda, noted that a vote for Jonathan signifies a bright future for the country.

While congratulating the defectors for the wise decision taken in their best interest and that of the state, Dr Mimiko charged them to continue to propagate the gospel of Jonathan and work assiduously for his re-election.

Governor Mimiko had earlier paid a courtesy call on the traditional rulers in the area, headed by the Ajobu of Araromi Obu, Oba Aderemi Adelola, where the monarch on behalf of his colleagues prayed for the victory of the party in the general election.

Ibadan-based prophet predicts coming of Nigeria’s ‘messiah’
February 27, 2015

By Gbenga Abegunrin - Reporter, Ibadan

An Ibadan-based prophet, Apostle Perez Iyiola Oluyemi, has predicted the coming of “a messiah” whom he said will lead Nigeria out of the lingering social and economic woes.

Apostle Oluyemi, founder of Achievers Rock Commission International who is also the President, Africa Evangelical Council, Ibadan, made the prediction in his newly published ‘Prophetic Roadmap on Nigeria 2015 and Beyond’, copies of which were made available to journalists in the Oyo State capital.

The publication declared pointedly that “Jonathan would not be the messiah, but an unnamed ‘David’ would be”.

The publication reads in part: “While David stands for the on-coming (next) generation, and he is to be the permanent messiah of Israel, the man whose dynasty Israel would live to praise for thousands of years to come. David was also of the minority of the minority, Judah, though, spoken of much earlier in prophecy had never shown any record of much greatness except much earlier in Perez and Caleb. Unto Judah shall the scepter be until Shiloh comes. Though predictions had been made much earlier, Judah never rose to anything as much of greatness until David came. But the oncoming generation, the great oncoming mighty leader that will conquer all the external enemies of Israel and would usher the nation into greatness would be raised up into national fame and celebration through Saul/Jonathan i.e. Saul cum Jonathan administrations.”

It reads further: “Who is this David? I cried aloud! Once we can identify the David, we shall solve the riddle of Nigeria.”

Oluyemi stated that the spirit took him “back to a prophecy and an earlier revelation in 2010 of a man from the South East of Nigeria, specifically, of Igbo extraction who shall become the Nigeria’s messiah and lead the nation away from an oil dependent economy to a heavily industrialised nation of the world, when Nigeria will be made a great cynosure of the entire globe fulfilling her place and purpose in God’s great destiny for her as a nation, which the devil had fought for too long a time by civil war and the likes.”

Oluyemi said “it is the pact of Jonathan’s that will birth Davidic reign. The Davidic reign is the messiah reign. A messiah is coming! The Messiah that no Saul shall be able to stop though had long been persecuted by Saul in the light of the divine manifold wisdom, we walk as children of light whereby we shall not stumble. For what God permits and expects man to do, angels would not be sent to do it.

“Angels would only do what they are ordered to do. They wait on man for man to do what he (man) is expected to do. It is the right of man to vote not of the angels. Man should vote wisely by choice and not by force, out of the light of understanding and counsel, he is graced with.

“God in the context of this crossroad of the destiny of this biggest and greatest black nation on the earth has been gracious and liberal to raise a voice in the light of His Prophetic Apostolic mandate to guide us by choice and not by order.

“Even though, it is written that the steps of the righteous are ordered by the LORD but God is still magnanimous enough to lead us not as if we are robots by way of order but by our choices so that when He judges the world, God might be just to all. Choices are ours; judgment belongs to God.

“The Davidic government will be assisted and established by military helps. The Jonathan administration will have a pact with Davidic government but Saul’s spiritual dynasty will rise against David’s rising and the spiritual Saul will fall at Gibeah by military clash. That will give birth to the establishment of Davidic reign of dominion for Nigeria over all her external enemies.

“Nevertheless, the hand of the LORD will come against Jonathan’s reign before the end of his other second reign for the break of his covenant to leave at the end of the full first term which would have smoothly birthed the Davidic rule, immediately after the end of his first TERM.

Why we endorsed Jonathan, by NANS
February 27, 2015

By Nedum Noble – Special Correspondent, Abuja

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as it sole candidate for the March 28 presidential election, citing his ability to resolve the protracted Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike as a major reason.

The President of the association, Tijani Usman, argued that past administration inherited the crisis of ASUU, but shifted it further to this present administration before the issue was laid to rest.

Speaking at a one-day National Students Solidarity Parley in Abuja, with the theme: ‘Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan Administration’, Usman said the student body is determined to prove that the Nigerian students have the capacity to decide who becomes the next President of the country.

According to him, the country has witnessed different kinds of leadership and ought to have developed more than this. He, however, expressed confidence in the present administration through the transformation agenda of the President.

Usman stated that there are various polling units at various campuses and that NAN would do anything humanly possible to ensure that their votes are protected.

“Our students will be in school and will man over 2,000 polling units across various campuses. We will make decision to stand firmly on free and fair election; we will stand firmly on one-man-one-vote.

“On that note, Nigerian students say kudos to Mr. President. We are here to tell Mr. President to ‘carry go’.

“We want to convey a message that the Nigerian students will have a final students’ endorsement voting mobilisation campaign within the next one week where millions of Nigerian students will converge at Eagle Square to display and prove the capacity that Nigerian students will make a difference in this coming dispensation,” he noted.

Usman, however, urged the President to resolve the impending Association of Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) strike, stressing that the students’ body would not want to witness another industrial action.

What is the state of roads in the country?

We have 35,000 km road networks before Jonathan administration came to power but when he came, he has constructed additional 25,000km road networks. As at today we have 35,120km road networks under the purview of FERMA for maintenance. A lot of people believe that maintenance is patching roads, maintenance is more than that. Maintenance is keeping the state of road infrastructure in a sustained functionality that is at every point in time the state of road infrastructure must be functional and how do we make it functional, the placement must be properly done apart from that there must be road marking, people do not know the meaning of road marking when you divide the road unless you want to overtake, the line must not be in between your two tyres. Road education is what the agency and FRSC are trying to cooperate on. Apart from that, there must be street lighting if the money is there at every point, the road must be luminous so that armed robbers cannot hide in a dark place. By the special grace of God, from the 21% of usable road I met when took over FERMA, we are now at 83.5% usable road all over the country. I think there is an improvement. There is nothing you can do to satisfy people 100%.

There is no doubt that PDP is having internal wranglings, which is likely to make victory difficult for the party in the forthcoming general elections, what is the leadership of the party doing to address this?

PDP is a mega party, we have different kinds of characters in the party and the beauty of democracy is ability to solve problems whenever it comes. There is no problem in PDP that is not surmountable and there is nobody except God that cannot commit error one way or the other during selection of candidates but to the best of our ability we are trying to manage such problem. But I want to assure you there is no problem that PDP has today that is not getting attention and we are going to solve our problems.

As coordinator of President Jonathan’s Presidential Campaign in Osun State, how do you plan to work with other parties to achieve violence free election in the state?

You see the way Nigerians play politics is very funny. Politics by definition is war without bloodshed but politics in Nigeria is war with bloodshed. When you are playing politics it is war and it is not supposed to be with bloodshed, it is war of words. In Osun State, the state is known for gentility, we are not violent at all but the modern politics now is trying to create kind of war among ourselves. We don’t like to kill ourselves in Osun state before, now it is happening but with what the two presidential candidates did in Abuja, signing of peace accord, I think we should also emulate them and stop harassing ourselves. We should not go to the extent of terminating our lives if what you want to do when you come to government is to do good to people, if the people say they don’t want you that they want another person that is better, why can’t you wait for another time but today a lot of people have nothing to offer they still want to be in government. In PDP, we believe that there should be no violence and by the special grace of God, there will be no violence. We had series of meetings with opinion leaders and some interest groups telling them that our elections in Osun must be violent free. The people that are using another people to cause violence, their children are abroad. I cannot tell my children to be carrying weapons, I won’t do it but probably because of poverty, when they give little money and tell them to cause violence they go ahead. As far as PDP is concerned, we are not going to be violent and I believe in Osun State APC will not also be violent.

What is the level of acceptance of PDP in the entire southwest of the country for the forthcoming elections?

I love to be part of southwest. In south west, there is no political party that is not welcomed. South west only have interest in some individuals who can perform and deliver. In south west alone if you are very credible and you go to any

Yoruba will destroy their destiny by voting for Buhari – Adeniji

Engr. Jide Adeniji is the Chairman, Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and Secretary of President Goodluck Jonathan Presidential Campaign Organization in the South West. He is also the Osun State Coordinator of the campaign organization. In this interview

Engr. Jide Adeniji

with CORRESPONDENT, GBENGA FATUROTI, he speaks on the state of roads across the country and why Nigerians should return President Jonathan to office for another term in the forthcoming presidential election, among others. Excerpts:

What are the achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan in Osun State especially in terms of road that would make the people cast their votes for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next month’s Presidential Election?

When Mr. President came to Osun state, he said the people should hold me responsible for any road that is not motorable as Chairman of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA). The problem we have having in Osun is that we have very limited federal roads, we have Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa federal road, we have Gbongan-Osogbo- Ela-Odo Federal Road, There is Lameco-Ogbomoso via Ilobu Federal Road, For Osogbo-Ilesa Federal Road, the Federal Ministry of Works have awarded contract on that, there cannot be two existing contract on a particular road, so, the government is reconstructing the road and when it is finish, it will be handed over to FERMA for maintenance. You cannot be developing road and be maintaining at the same time, it is after the commissioning that the road is handed over to FERMA. Then concerning Lameco-Ilobu-Ogbomoso, the rehabilitation had been awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works, I personally went to Federal Ministry of Works for them to terminate the contract because the contract has been awarded for almost five years. No physical work is been done and graciously the Minister approved and terminated the contract. What I did first was to divide the road to about five or six segments, we did only one segment of it which cost about N41m, the remaining six segments is what we are working on in the FERMA Headquarters which will be awarded very soon. There is no doubt about this that I am a bonafide Osun man, there is no way that I will be in the helms of affair of FERMA and will leave my state without touching it. The Ikirun road is an interstate road which supposed to be a federal road but it is a state road, we need the National Assembly Act to transfer it to federal which we have not even started at all. Then concerning Gbongan-Ela-Odo, it has been handed over to Osun State even though the state government is signing the contract on behalf of the federal, when the road is completed, we are going to vet whatever the state has spent on it and we are going to pay back but because the state cannot wait for our own time to start the construction of dualizing the road, the then Governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola wrote the federal on the road which granted temporary ownership of the road to the state, we told him to design it, construct it and let vet it so that the federal government can repay and when the present governor came he inherited the road and I think work is going on there, when it is finish, they will give us the bill and we pay them back. Then Ibadan-Ife, we have awarded the contract to Samchase Nigeria Limited, the contract for the overlay and proper rehabilitation is about N810m, the work is still ongoing whatever certificate they bring we pay even though we still have some little ones we have to settle and we are going to settle them as soon as possible. There are also some areas we do palliative measure even this Gbongan road during yuletide, I will just tell the governor that we want to do some temporary work if I see that the people doing the construction cannot do palliative at the same time, I direct FERMA staff to go and do direct labour and put palliative measures so that peoples vehicle will not get damaged.

Politicsapc should Produce The Original Shekau -- Fayose by john124(op): 1:31pm On Feb 25, 2015
:oEkiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has again attacked the leadership of the All Progressives Congress(APC). Now, he accuses the party of knowing those behind the Boko Haram insurgency.‬

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, Tuesday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose lamented the open display of hatred against Nigeria and its people by the APC. He therefore asked the party to produce the original Shekau, since it claimed the one arrested by the Federal Government was fake.

“It is obvious that APC does not want the insurgency to end.”

“Up till today, the APC has not made any statement, commending our gallant soldiers that are laying down their lives to save Nigerians from the Boko Haram insurgents.‬

“Instead of commending the soldiers and encouraging them, what the APC people are doing is to blackmail the military and one wonders why a party will want to take over power by supporting killing of innocent Nigerians.”‬

‪Speaking further, the governor said; “With the onslaught on the Boko Haram by our gallant soldiers, the APC appears to have lost the game of using the insurgency to campaign against President Goodluck Jonathan.‬

“Instead of them to face this reality, they have come up with this criminal assertion that a fake leader of Boko Haram, Ibrahim Shekau, was being presented before Nigerians by the government, in order to claim winning the war on terrorism.‬

“They are also claiming the fake Shekau might become a tool to blackmail members of the opposition, by coaching the phantom terror chief to say he was working for its presidential candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, in order to link him to terrorism.‬

“With this statement coming from the APC, it is clear that the party knows what we don’t know about Boko Haram.‬

“It also indicates that the APC people do not want the Boko Haram insurgency to end so that they can continue to make political gains from it.‬

“Therefore, APC should simply produce the original Shekau that they know because you can only recognise fake when you know the original,” the statement read.
