Politics / Boko Haram: Terrorists Have Finally Been Defeated – Rabe Abubaka by john403: 3:17pm On Oct 29, 2016

The spokesman for the Defence Headquarters, Rabe Abubakar has announced that Boko Haram has finally been destroyed.

Abubakar also called on the media to celebrate and promote positive things that will make Nigeria great. He said “Today, I am pleased to inform you that we have defeated Boko Haram. It is not an easy feat. Yes, you may hear that an inaccessible village has been attack or that there was an attack somewhere. But, that is the last kicking of a dying group,” he said.

“Check at the history of insurgency in the world, there is no country that has defeated insurgency under six to seven years like Nigeria. Is it Sri Lanka, Mali, Columbia or Somalia? Boko Haram is gone. It does not matter whether its so-called leader, Shekau is alive or dead,” he said.

“The war is not about him as a person, it is about his group and they have been defeated. There is no inch of soil in Nigeria, where Boko Haram’s flag is hoisted. No more! Boko Haram has been totally degraded, decimated and 100 per cent defeated, and may God never allow such kind of evil to re-appear in Nigeria again.

“Our success was noticed by Mali which has been battling with its own problem. One of Mali’s defence chief had to come to Nigeria to ask us how we did it. So, that is to tell you that Boko Haram is gone.”

Abubakar also revealed that the Army will soon launch out an operation that will deal with the menace of Fulani herdsmen.

He said “Let’s celebrate our success in the news, not the propaganda of terrorists and their sympathisers. Yes, we have also had casualties, but it’s like all conflicts.

“But, you can see that even developed and well secured countries such as France and Britain are not even totally immune from terrorism.

“I will appreciate if the press can focus on the good and positive things that make our country great. What do have to gain as a country when we promote headlines that will cause division and plant hatred and violence? This is the only country that we have. If anything happens and you leave this country, no matter where you find yourself, you are a refugee.

Crime / Drama! Woman Beats Up Man In Bank In Ibadan (photos) by john403: 2:09pm On Oct 15, 2016

A social media user, Teebiggs, based in Ibadan, Oyo state has recounted how a woman physically abused a man she accused of stealing her highly-priced mobile phones.

According to Teebiggs, he is sharing the story just so one or two people can learn from it. Read below:

”I usually mind my business on a norm but feel people can learn one or two from this, so thought of sharing.

A rowdy scene caused at an unnamed bank

”So it happened that I was in the banking hall this morning in Ibadan and suddenly heard this thunderous sound… Looking back I saw this fair skinned lady slapping and head booting this young man that looked very innocent. “What did I do, what did I do?”, the young man kept asking, maintaining his innocence.

”The lady who was already crying and screaming gave him a hot slap again, he staggered and lost his innocence saying “is it because I helped you, is it because I helped you to charge your phones and didn’t see you again”. The bank management intervened, trying to separate them, but the lady won’t let go. She kept head booting the young man, screaming and crying. I’m like wow, this lady is strong.

”Eventually, she lost grip after being assured the man can’t escape and finally proceed to shed light on what transpired between them as we wait with bated breath. According to her, she was trying to charge her phones (an iPhone, iPad and a blackberry) as a bosswoman, while in the church but met Mr Innocent there also charging, she was going to attend to someone and gave him the gadgets to plug and charge for her. But to her surprise, on getting back Mr Innocent had disappeared, no where to be found.

The lady attacker being restrained by another man

”She said she told the church what happened and the pastor chastised her for her actions, trusting Mr innocent she doesn’t know from Adam with all the expensive gadgets. And to add salt to injury, Mr innocent has been making contacts with her phone contacts on Whatsapp, disguising as her, asking them for money and duping them, tarnishing her image. Hence the heavy slaps and head-boots she rained on him to teach him a lesson for all the pains he’s put her through since the development.

”Asked if there was any tracking device on any of the gadgets on how she knew Mr Innocent was at that branch of the bank at the moment, she said she only came with her dad to report fraudulent activities on her bank account as it seemed Mr innocent was also transferring funds from her account to via mobile banking on one of the phones.

”She went on her knees, praising and thanking God for helping her to see him today, she also started dancing shoki to my surprise when the police came and handcuffed Mr Innocent who already lost his innocence at the time. End of story..”

Nawa oh!

Jobs/Vacancies / Galma Multipurpose Dam To Provide 1.1m Jobs, Says FG by john403: 7:00pm On Oct 14, 2016

The Federal government on Friday said that the completed Galma multipurpose dam would provide over 1.1 million opportunities for people living around it.

Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu said this during an inspection tour of the dam in Kaduna state.Adamu stated that the dam could also generate 2.2 megawatt of electricity and supply water to 2.2 million people in the surrounding communities and Zaria.

A statement issued by the ministry in Abuja on Thursday said the building of the dam, which has reached 100 per cent completion, started in 2006.

The minister explained that apart from the irrigation component of the project, the multipurpose dam has a reservoir capacity of about 186 million m3.

He commended the level of job done on the project and charged the company to facilitate the construction of the roads for easy access.

The statement said the minister earlier commissioned the National Secretariat of the National Water Resources Capacity Building in Kaduna.

The centre was built in collaboration with the World Bank to address some specific needs of the sector.

He noted that the institute has played a significant role, especially in the collaborative research and capacity building in the sector.

“I am aware of the great achievements of the institute since its establishment, I therefore want to challenge the Executive Director and students of the institution to redouble their efforts in achieving its set goals in line with the agenda of the present administration,” the statement quoted him as saying.

The Executive Director of the Institute, Dr. Emmanuel Adanu, said that the institute has the mandate, to among others, promote and develop training courses, perform applied research, promote necessary codes of practice and cooperation with similar bodies within and outside the country as well as international bodies.

Continuing, Adamu said that the institute has enjoyed a tremendous support of the Minister of Water Resources since his assumption of duty.

He added that in the current financial year, the budgetary allocation to the institute has tremendously increased, while patronage of its tailor-made short courses by the ministry and its departments has taken positive turn.

He appealed to the minister to encourage the ministry, departments, river basin development authorities (RBDAs) as well as its agency to participate on the short and long term training programme of the institute and to expand and regularize the youth empowerment programmes.

Health / These Two Brothers Undergo Mysterious Transformation As Soon As The Sun Goes Dow by john403: 3:26pm On Oct 08, 2016

A severe disease often makes doctors feel powerless. The treatment search gets even more challenging when it comes to paralysis.

Two young Pakistani boys have suffered from an inexplicable illness since their childhood. As soon as the sun goes down, these two absolutely normal and healthy kids become completely paralyzed, and doctors have no idea why this is happening.

Abdul Rasheed and Ahmed Shoaib are brothers who live with their family in Pakistan. At first glance, these boys, 9 and 13, are like any other kids, but in fact they suffer from an inexplicable disorder.

The brothers are quite active during the day, but at night they collapse into a vegetative state. Their bodies get completely paralyzed, and they’re unable to speak, eat or move.

The brothers’ father consulted different doctors many times. The boys have undergone more than 300 clinical analyses and tests, but their state still poses a challenge to medical science.

In desperation, the father has turned to religion. He believes that his sons are victims of black magic. Desperate to cure the disease, the man constantly takes the boys to spiritual healers. However, this approach also gives no results.

Doctors suggest that it’s not black magic, but some sort of genetic disease. The parents of Abdul Rasheed and Ahmed Shoaib are cousins, and two of their six children had died at a young age.

The father calls his sons “solar children”, believing that they get energy from the Sun and suffer from its lack at night. Of course, this isn’t the case since the boys can spend all day in a dark room or in a shady place outdoor. But what is the real cause of this mysterious condition?

Unfortunately, science is powerless in this case! At the moment, doctors can offer these boys no medical treatment. The condition of the brothers is precarious, so the family continues to look for the answer to this riddle.

Family / Woman Discovers She’s Been Married To A Dead Man For 6 Years, Then This Happens by john403: 3:07pm On Oct 08, 2016

Usually we only see stuff like this happen in movies, but it seems this one actually happened for real, as a woman is reportedly crazy as a result of her own personal experience.

The woman identified as Mrs Grace Amadi, recently discovered she had been married to and raising two children with a man who reportedly died as far back as 2002.

Mrs Grace discovered her husband of 6 years died since 2002

According to reports, Grace who had been married to her husband identified as Tony for six years, was said to have lived peacefully with him. The pair had their two daughters in 2011 and 2013 and lived in waterside in old Port Harcourt town, where Tony also had a job he went to every morning.

Grace got to know about her husband’s death following a visit from someone who claimed to be his distant relative, who had come to the house when Tony had left for work, bearing old pictures of him. Grace was said to have started screaming in disbelief, fear and anger, while also throwing herself on the ground repeatedly in a bid to inflict injuries on herself, causing her neighbours to gather and see what caused her anguish.

According to the neighbours, the pictures brought by Tony’s relative showed one where he was married to another woman in May 2000, another one where he was in a car accident that claimed his life, and another one where he was laid-in-state during his funeral in July 2002, the last picture was one of his grave’s headstone which also showed his full name with birth and death dates.

Refusing to believe the story, some people tried to contact Tony by calling his phone and even going to his office, but neither worked as he reportedly never arrived the office on that day he left for work.

Grace who has become a basket case, has been taken to a local prayer house for ‘spiritual treatment’, while the neighbours have taken over the caring of her children.

Na wa oh! This one pass film trick oo!

Politics / Member Of Buhari’s Cabinet Exposes Reasons Why APC Leaders Are Fighting Each Oth by john403: 8:42pm On Oct 07, 2016

The minister of sport and youth development, Solomon Dalung, has attributed the current crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ambition of some politicians for the next round of elections. Dalung, according to Premium Times, said the problems inherited by the party made it impossible for leaders to pay attention to party members, leading to frustration. The minister disclosed this to journalists on Thursday, October 6, at the national secretariat of the APC in Abuja. “I think we should try and appreciate the chemistry of what is referred to as APC today. APC started as amalgamation of different political groups then graduated into a mass movement and formed the government,” Dalung said. “The significance of this was that these are political systems that are an embodiment of diverse interests.

“Now, the management of that interests is very critical, but the challenge the party and the government is facing is that the government itself inherited a situation where it has more challenges of fixing the country, and so nothing or no good attention at all would have trickled down along the line in view of the economic constraints. “That is enough to stir bitterness in the party and this can give birth to crisis,” he said. Dalung called on the leaders to forget their differences and allow the country to move forward. Dalung said those in government were worried over the development. He appealed to all those involved to embrace peace, noting that they should know that younger politicians look up to them for guidance

Business / Travelex Sells $1/N356 To Travellers by john403: 7:17pm On Oct 07, 2016

Travelex, a global foreign exchange dealer, on Friday resumed sale of dollars directly to travellers at N356 to a dollar.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the firm’s office inside the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos terminal was besieged by hundreds of travellers.
Some Bureaux de change operators within the terminal were also selling from N470 to N472 to a dollar to travellers.

Travelex, which recently got the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to sell dollar, however, gave stringent conditions for the transaction.

The requirements include presentation of valid international passport, visa to destination, Biometric Verification Number, BVN, card, airline boarding pass and signed copy of transaction.

The firm also directed that cash would only be handed over to the traveller at the boarding gate after security and immigration checks.

According to the firm, these conditions are to ensure that dollar is sold to only genuine travellers, and discourage racketeering.

Consequently, some of the travellers were unable to buy dollars from Travelex because they could not produce their BVN cards.

One of them, Uche Ikediashi, told NAN that he was hearing about the card for the first time.

“Yesterday I bought dollars from a BDC at N470. Today I was told that Travelex is selling at N356; that is why I came here, but they said I needed to bring my BVN card and I don’t have it,” he said.

Another traveller, Samson Uduak, commended the CBN for the initiative which, he said, had created easy access to forex for travellers.

Celebrities / Davido Tells Nigerians To Stop Stressing Him Over His Album by john403: 1:50pm On Oct 05, 2016

Sony music star, Davido in a recent interview has asked people and fans to stop putting him under pressure to release an album since he isn’t the only Nigerian act that has failed to drop an album this year as promised.

Davido expressed his frustration in pidgin after the reporter asked him his first question which was about his album, the O.B.O star said;

“Why are people saying it’s taken forever, infact, shey na only me never drop? Abeg, make them free me.”

During the brief chat at Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX, in Lekki, Lagos, the 23 year old African superstar revealed that his album has been slated for next year and it will feature his collaborations with Usher, Future, Young Thug. While his Son of Mercy EP which will be dropping soon will feature his collaboration with Tinashe. In his words;

“All of my international collaborations Usher, Future, Popcaan, Young Thug, and more are on the album. Everything is on the album. Think about it, the end of the year is here. Why release all my missiles now, and the next year everybody turns over a new leaf?

“So I’m coming, doing my African thing for now, giving them the Tinashe record, so let them feel that for now, next year, just come through. That’s why I had to do this EP. I can’t do what they are doing better than them, and they can’t do what I am doing better than me. So I just have to do this EP, and just drop it down.”

Speaking on how his Sony Music deal is affecting his career, the Ekuro star said that he only has creative control over his songs and that the company makes the final decision on what to release. He also stated that the company has been financing his projects so he had to understand when they told him to push the release date of his songs.

“I was hyped that they (Sony) came to me.”
“I have creative control, it’s a joint thing. Most times, whatever I send them, they are ready to go,”

“When they told me that this is going to happen, it’s a sacrifice that I had to make. I did so much in four years, I did a lot, every award, I have it.”

“You will see, I can’t explain, you gotta see the work. At least I don’t have to pay for my videos again. I’m always thinking: ‘spending $250,000 on one video, that’s what I’ll never do. That’ll just take it to another level.” “Killing them crazy though, everything big budget”

Davido revealed that his relocation to the US felt like he was starting all over again as an unknown artiste but despite the glitz and glamour he has enjoyed ever since the trip, he will never trade anywhere for Africa;

“I was cool, I was travelling, I doing things, I was recording, I was living life, I was in America. It kind of was very fast for me, because I was moving so much, I was just setting up plays. I was setting up plays for the future.”

“It’s like I’m starting again. That’s how it feels, that’s what they keep telling me. They say: ‘Yo David, we understand that you have this and that, and you are big. But you gotta start again.’ When they are interviewing me, they aren’t saying ‘Yo Davido’, they are asking ‘What’s your name? Explain Afrobeats to me?’. So it’s like starting again, but it’s cool, I’m just 23 years.

“For me it’s just to keep going, help other people, drop the album, destroy. I love this my African thing. I love it. I will never leave Africa for nowhere. Ever!”

Politics / Oby Ezekwesili Warns FG Over Plans To Sell NLNG, NNPC by john403: 12:25pm On Oct 04, 2016

The Senior Economic Adviser of the Africa Economic Development Policy Initiative and the initiator of Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) project, Oby Ezekwesili, has strongly kicked against the plan by the Federal Government to put on sale the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG).

The former Education Minister in a statement issued on Monday said the sale of national assets will not do the nation’s ailing economy any good.

According to her, “I am opposed to the sale of any productive assets like the NLNG because there seems to be no clear economic vision and rigorous analytics to serve as the anchor for such a major policy thrust.

“We need well deliberated policies from our government, including the plans for revitalisation of the programme of privatisation being run by BPE to properly situate public debate of economic structural change agenda.

“After all, even in our country, there is now proof that the economy can relatively respond to deliberate, well thought and rigorous analysis of context and sound policy options in resolving growth and development problems.”

But for the refineries, she said that the government can proceed urgently through the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to sell them off.

According to her, “they are access pit of corruption in the petroleum sector”, stressing that their sale would amount to fiscal savings and should therefore be supported by all.
Exekwesili, however, regretted that at the inception of this administration, on May 29, 2015, when the economy showed signs of strait, the government did not act fast to prevent the present economic situation.

“The parlous state of the Nigerian economy on May 29, 2015 should therefore have instructed an incisive and urgent macroeconomic stabilisation programme to realign price levels in the economy.

“If a menu of sound monetary and fiscal policies that the economy needed on May 29, 2015 had been provided, it would have sent the right signal to players that there was no cause for alarm.

“Had the government made quick and necessary adjustments that corresponded close enough to the level of impact that a 40 per cent sharp drop in government oil revenue necessitated, the story would most likely be less negative today.”

She further noted that “With inflation- nay, stagflation- now at high double digits of 18 per cent , with the decline of foreign reserve from $37.3 billion at end of 2014 to $25billion in September 2016, with an “administrative-floating ” exchange rate regime that still creates enormous opportunities for corruption and rent seeking arbitrage, with a high interest rate that poses a stress for the financial sector because of deteriorating bank asset quality as well as for limited access to credit by the real sector, with a continuously declining aggregate demand, with a shrinking gross domestic product, with 2016 budget deficit level of $11billion that still has unclear sources of financing, what more do we need before citizens stepped up a demand for the government to retrace its steps from its string of unsound economic policies?‎”

“The police, soldiers and all other security agencies should take note. They should never harass, or intimidate us. Our slogan is free Zakzaky. Our mission in Abuja is to seek the release of our leader, Shaik Ibrahim Zakzaky. Nothing, but that.”

It can be recalled that members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise called, the Shi’ites, on Thursday, September 22, 2016 marched across major streets of Abuja, the Federal Capital territory, seeking the release of their leader, El-Zakzaky.

Mr. El-Zakzaky has been in detention since December last year after soldiers killed and secretly buried over 300 members of the Shiite group in a massacre that has been condemned by local and international rights groups.

Crime / Immigration Arrests Man While Attempting To Smuggle 6 Girls To Burkina Faso For by john403: 9:36pm On Oct 03, 2016

A yet-to-be-named suspect has been nabbed by the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, Oyo State Command for attempting to smuggle six girls into Burkina Faso for commercial sex work.

The suspect traveled from Edo state with the girls to the border town of Saki in Oyo State, where he was apprehended.
Confirming the arrest, the Comptroller of the command, Ekaete Isang, in a statement made available to newsmen at the weekend, complained about the lack of cooperation from grass-roots leaders in border communities of the state, who are said to aid people getting in and out of the country illegally.

The statement said, “Our major challenge in fighting human traffickers and illegal immigrants is logistics because of the expansive nature of the border line in the state. We have met with grass-roots leaders in those communities but their response is not impressive.

“They shield these (traffickers and illegal immigrants) people from arrest and they don’t come up with information.

“We call on the state government to support the command in our effort to maintain order at the borders.

“Meanwhile, the suspect, whose name would be mentioned when investigations are completed, was going to Burkina Faso with the aim of involving the girls in illegal activities such as prostitution

“Our patrol team caught up with him before he could cross the Nigerian border with them and he was arrested.

“We have reunited the girls with their parents, while the man was handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP.”

Politics / Buhari Signs Paris Agreement, Seeks Help On Lake Chad by john403: 2:05pm On Sep 28, 2016

President Muhammadu Buhari has, Thursday, signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and called for aid in the revival of Lake Chad basin. The president after signing the agreement said that his signing of the Agreement demonstrated Nigeria’s commitment to a global effort to reverse the effects of the negative trend.

The President said this on Thursday while addressing the opening of the meeting on “Taking Climate Action for Sustainable Development” in New York. A statement issued in Abuja by Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the president, said the meeting was co-hosted by Nigeria and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Adesina stated that the meeting was one of the Side Events of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA71). He said that President Buhari had shortly before this event, signed the Paris Agreement, where he expressed Nigeria’s commitment to reducing “Green House Gas Emissions unconditionally by 20 per cent and conditionally by 45 per cent”.

This he noted was in line with Nigeria’s “Nationally Determined Contributions.” While describing the signing as historic, President Buhari also expressed confidence that with support from development partners, Nigeria would meet the above targets.

The resident pledged to ensure the ratification of the Paris Agreement before the 22nd Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Marrakesh, Morocco in November 2016. He said that it was to demonstrate his personal dedication to the process of implementing the Agreement that he was hosting the side event on Taking Climate Action Towards Sustainable Development.

President Buhari, who said he was privileged to have been part of the Paris Agreement, expressed appreciation to what he called “the genuine efforts by President Francois Hollande of France in drawing global attention to reviving the Lake Chad Basin,”. He also lauded him for galvanising the political will that led to the global consensus in reaching the Paris Agreement.

The President said Nigeria’s commitment to the Paris Agreement was articulated through its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) “that strive to build a climate resilient society across the diverse terrain of Nigeria. “We have instituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change to govern implementation of my country’s NDCs, thereby ensuring a strong cross-sectoral approach, coherence and synergy for Climate Action.”

President Buhari, while admitting that implementing the Roadmap will not be easy in the face of dwindling national revenues, however, indicated that both internal and external resources would be mobilized to meet Nigeria’s targets. He added that the 2017 Budget would reflect Nigeria’s efforts to accord priority to realizing its NDCs.

“In addition, we are set to launch our first ever Green Bonds in the first quarter of 2017 to fund a pipeline of projects all targeted at reducing emissions towards a greener economy,” he said.

While urging global support to transit to a low-carbon climate resilient economy, the President specifically reminded industrialised nations “to play their role and deliver on their commitments on access to climate finance and technology transfer and help with capacity-building.

“Expectations are high for their leaders to deliver 100 billion dollars per year by 2020 in support of developing countries to take climate action, thus keeping the promise to billions of people.” President Buhari called on the international community to “give special recognition to the plight of Lake Chad and support our effort to resuscitate the livelihoods of over five million people in the region.

“This will reinforce our efforts to reintegrate the thousands of Boko Haram victims and returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).”

According to the President, the Niger Delta region is a unique biodiversity rich in coastal environment that is highly prone to adverse environmental changes. He said these changes were occasioned by climate change, such as sea level rise, coastal erosion, exacerbated by poverty and many decades of oil pollution leading to loss of livelihoods and ecosystems.

He added however, that “through an integrated approach, implementation of the NDCs, and our efforts to clean up Ogoniland, we will improve livelihoods, protect the environment and take climate action, and ensure the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

President Buhari thanked the Presidents of Chad, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Niger for attending the event.

Politics / Senate Seeks New Strategy On Corruption Fight by john403: 1:46pm On Sep 28, 2016

Members of the Nigerian Senate have called on the executive to re-strategise on its war against corruption.

The lawmakers made the call on Thursday as the Senate continued the debate on the state of the economy at the National Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
They argued that some measures taken by the Federal Government so far were driving away investors.

While Senator Ben Bruce observed that the government’s approach to fighting corruption was doing the country more harm than good, Senator Olusola Adeyeye called for a total restructuring of the economy.

One after the other, they suggested solutions which they said would get Nigeria out of recession and put it on a course of economic recovery and growth.

Sale Of Government Assets

The lawmakers were also divided on the suggestion to sell the country’s assets to generate revenue.

Senators Ovie Omo-Agege, Abdulahi Adamu and Adeola Olamilekan, opposed the recommendation of the sale of government assets.

They also questioned the reluctance of the Federal Government to make use of funds in several intervention agencies to stimulate the economy.

The debate follows the called on the executive by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to raise capital from the sale of government assets and other sources to shore up reserves.

Senator Saraki had recommended part sale of the NLNG Holdings, reduction of government share in upstream oil joint venture operations and sale of government stake in financial institutions.

He also proposed several other measures to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, including the privatisation of major and regional airports and refineries.

Politics / PDP Discovers 4 Dirty Schemes By APC To Rig Edo Election by john403: 12:12pm On Sep 28, 2016

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has supposed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to rig Edo governorship election on September 28, Wednesday.

The party noted this in a statement unveiled by the PDP’s spokesman Prince Dayo Adeyeye in Abuja.
Mr. Adeyeye listed four ways which the ruling party is planning to rig the Edo polls despite president.

These schemes include:

1. The distribution of fake results sheets to polling units in different areas of the state;

2. The use of local government collation officers to write fictitious results on real results sheets of some local government areas;

3. The use of thugs brought into the state from other states to harass and intimidate the citizens of Edo state;

4. The use of security agencies to arrest, harass and intimidate members and supporters of the PDP; and to provide security cover for members of the APC to execute their nefarious plots.

The statement reads in part:

“As final preparations are put in place for the Edo state gubernatorial election which is slated to take place tomorrow September 28, 2016, it has become necessary to address a number of salient issues.

“We are aware that President Muhammadu Buhari has warned the INEC chairman in private to ensure a free, fair and credible process in Edo state. We are also aware that the president has also warned the relevant security agencies to ensure a preservation of the peace in the state during the election.

“It is important to sound this note of warning again to INEC and APC that the Edo people are united in their determination to vehemently resist any attempt to manipulate the electoral process. We urge INEC to ensure that its staff abides by the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as Amended) as well as its Electoral Manual & Guidelines.

“We urge the relevant stakeholders to allow the Edo people to freely elect the Leader they desire for the next four (4) years and to allow the will of the people to prevail.”

The main electoral body has agreed to postpone the Edo state governorship election by two weeks due to security reasons.

The election which was scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 10, was postponed following a security meeting held in Benin, the Edo state capital in the evening on September 8.

Politics / REVEALED! How PDP Will Battle APC At The Edo Polls by john403: 10:58am On Sep 28, 2016

The Edo elections lays just by the corner, the atmosphere is charged with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to seize the mantle from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In this opinion, Femi Ajasa shows how PDP intends to win its battle against the APC, charting a course for the opposition’s road to intended victory at the Edo polls.
More than just another election

Tomorrow’s election in Edo state is more than an election for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); it is a battle for political survival by the one time ruling party against the most resilient threat to it since it first berthed in the state in 1998.

Not surprisingly, the party is deploying some of its most formidable captains in the battle to wrest the ship of state from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the home of the incumbent governor

Although Governor Adams Oshiomhole hails from Edo North Senatorial zone, it is not going to be a clean sweep victory for the APC in the zone. In Etsako East local government area, the PDP will give a good fight as the party can boast of notable politicians such as High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Abu Dokpesi, High Chief Stanley Odidi, Jude Imagwe, Hon Godwin Eshieshi and many others.

The coming of Hon. Abubakar Momoh, a former member of the House of Representatives and grassroots political mobilizer into Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s fold will further boost the chances of the party in the local government.

The showing of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) through its former senatorial candidate, Momoh in the 2015 election in Edo North notwithstanding, the final election results were clear indications that he is not a pushover in the area.

The likes of Hon. Godwin Eshieshi, Joshua Ogene, and Hon. Abbas Jega and many other PDP stalwarts will take care of the Okpella axis of the local government to push for victory for the party.

Aside, it is recalled that in the 2015 Presidential and National Assembly elections, the PDP won the local government.

In Estako Central local government, former Chief of Staff to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, PDP state chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, Hon. Paschal Ugbome, Gen Alfred Ilogho (rtd), former Etsako Central local chairman, Emma Momoh and Alemhon Akhigbe and a former Commissioner for Lands and Survey in the Oshiomhole government, Osekhina Boi will work assiduously to ensure victory for the PDP in the election.

PDP also won the local government in the 2015 Presidential and National Assembly election. Estako West where the out-going governor hails from will be a tougher battle for the PDP. Both parties will slug it there.

PDP will deploy Engr. Hussein Garba, Zakari Ayonote, Jarret Tenebe, Abu Nargata, Henry Duke Tenebe and Hon Sylvanus Eruaga, the PDP member representing Etsako West 11 in the House of Assembly.

In the case of Owan West and Owan East local governments, the PDP soldiers would be hoping to ride on the protest in the two councils that they were bypassed in the selection of a running mate to the APC candidate. Besides, the areas also cried of being marginalized by the Oshiomhole government.

The PDP will be marshalling Senator Yisa Braimah, Alhaji Kashietu Ozeto, Barrister Ail Aji Muze, Major Oisamojie (rtd), Aimola, Ambrose Imode etc.

In Akoko Edo where similar sentiments also prevail, political veterans like Dr. Tunde Lakoju, Col. Tunde Akogun, former Majority Leader in the House of Representatives, Mr. Bankole Balogun, Chief Johnson Emeasalu, Segun Saiki, Kayode Alabi, etc will be pushing the case for the PDP.

The plot to capture Edo Central

Edo Central Senatorial zone, the home of the Esan people has been predominately PDP. The Esan people have been identifying with the PDP national leader, Chief Tony Anenih since 1999.

The allegations that the senatorial district was marginalised by the Oshiomhole administration, the underfunding of the Ambrose Alli University will be the currency for the PDP chieftains marshalling the attack for the party.

The PDP will be deploying Chief Tony Anenih, Senators Odion Ugbesia, Clifford Ordia, Chief Tom Ikimi, Prince Tony Omoaghe, Hon.Tony Aziegbemi, Hon Friday Itulah, Chief Mike Onolemenmen, and Hon. Joe Edionwele.

The party firepower will also be boosted by Mrs. Philomena Ihenyen, Mr. Richard Okosun. Elder Adekunle, Hon. Akhere Ugbesia, Hon. Festus Ebea, Felix Otubu, etc.

How Edo South will fall to PDP

Edo South Senatorial zone is the beautiful bride that will decide the outcome of the election with the two foremost candidates from the zone. Besides, Edo South has 58 percent of the voting population who include the Bini, Esan, Afemai, Owan, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausas etc.

It has three metropolitan local governments – Egor, Oredo and Ikpoba/Okha. In the 2015 Presidential and National Assembly elections, the PDP apart from wining the Senatorial seat also won three of the four House of Representatives seats in the senatorial district.

Among the PDP strong men in the zone are Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the governorship candidate, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, Don Pedro Obaseki, a scion of the Obaseki family of Benin and a cousin of the APC candidate.

The PDP also has Dr. Godwin Oni-Edigin, Mr. Clement Edo- Osagie, Bar. Nosa Adams, Larry Ogieva, Deacon Bayo Ogomon, Owele Dickson Imasogie, Deacon Mike Ehima, Bar. Chris Agbomwanegbe among others.

Politics / Finally! Obasanjo Reacts To Recession, Names Those Responsible For It by john403: 10:27am On Sep 28, 2016

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Tuesday, accused former governors of contributing to the economic woes afflicting the nation by opposing his government’s efforts to save for the rainy day when the price of oil was higher.

Obasanjo, who spoke at the 2016 World Pension Summit in Abuja, lamented that many of the former state executives frustrated his genuine attempt to save a substantial portion of the country’s resources when there was excess oil revenue.
Obasanjo said at the event attended by global pension players and top government officials, “I remember when I was in government and I told, particularly, the governors, ‘please let us save for the rainy days.’ They said no!.

“There was no rain at that time, now that the rain has come; there is nothing we can fall back on to cushion us.”
Obasanjo, however, commended the secured nature of the pension scheme, stating that despite the many years of sleaze in the Nigerian polity, the pension funds were not touched.

He said, “One of the things that makes me very happy in the pension scheme is that in the last five years, when almost everything goes, concerning public funds, pension funds remain sacrosanct. I believe that the pension funds are something we must preserve, no matter what we do.”

Obasanjo however called for caution in introducing innovations into the pension scheme to ensure that the ability of people to access their pension funds when they retire is not jeopardized.

Nairaland / General / Woman Arrested For Marrying Her Biological Son And Daughter (photos) by john403: 1:43pm On Sep 10, 2016

A woman has been arrested for marrying her two of her children The 43-year-old woman identified as Patricia Ann Spann, reportedly married one of her sons about 8 years ago, and has now married her 25-year-old daughter Misty Velvet Dawn Spann. Following a visit from a child welfare investigator who reported them to the police earlier this year, the mother and daughter duo were declared wanted on charges of incest. According to reports, she had married Misty on March 25, using a fake name ‘Clayton’, meanwhile it was also one of the names she wrote down when she married her son Jody Spann Jr, eight years ago. Jody later had the marriage annulled, citing incest as one of his reasons for wanting an annulment.

Patricia had earlier told the welfare worker that she lost custody of her three children to their father’s mother, and that she only reunited with her daughter and fell in love with her about two years ago. The police said that the ‘lovebirds’ (odiegwu o) admitted that they were related biologically and that they also had a proper wedding. Patricia also claimed she did not feel like she had violated any laws, seeing as her name had been cleaned off her daughter’s birth certificate. They however face up to 10 years in jail according to Oklahoma incest laws which prohibits blood relatives from getting married or even having sex with each other.

At a time Nigerians are groaning under the yoke of recession, Members of the National Assembly (NASS) comprising the Senators and Members of House of Representatives have received a total sum of N6.78 billion as their official salaries and allowances in one year, investigation by Economic Confidential has revealed.

The remuneration packages include: annual salaries, accommodation, vehicle maintenance and fuel, Personal Assistants, House maintenance, domestic staff, entertainment and utilities allowances. Others allowances are; Constituency allowance, Annual Leave, Hardship allowance, wardrobe, newspapers and responsibility allowances.

The basic salary of the Senate President is N2.48mn while that of the Speaker of House of Rep is N2.47mn. Romance / LADIES TAKE NOTE: 9 Small Things Guys Love And Want Their Girlfriends To Do For by john403: 12:20pm On Sep 05, 2016

While these nine things guys love when their girlfriends do may seem insignificant, nothing could be further from the truth.

1. When she texts him good morning.
Believe it or not, when a guy loves his girlfriend, he loves seeing a text from her first thing in the morning. It’s always nice to be reminded that there’s someone out there thinking about you the moment she wakes up…

2. The way she lights up when she sees him.

He loves the way his girlfriend’s eyes glow when they come meet his. It’s such a simple thing that holds so much beauty.

3. When she buys him little gifts, letting him know he’s always on her mind.

She simply sees something she believes he will like and can’t help herself from buying it for him. She cares for him, and he loves it when she shows it without even really knowing she’s doing it.

4. When she looks at him and actually sees him.

He loves when his girlfriend looks into him to see the true him, because at the same time, she’s letting him see the true her. And he doesn’t feel so alone anymore.

5. When she cheerleads for him.

She’s his biggest fan, biggest supporter, biggest believer. She believes in him more than he believes in himself. And every time he approaches a challenge, especially when it’s one that he himself doubts he can overcome, she is there to remind him that he’s stronger than he knows. He’s been waiting his whole life for someone that sees the good in him, and now he knows he’s found her.

6. When she takes better care of him than he does himself.

She worries more about his well-being than he does. While sometimes it gets on his nerves a bit — if he doesn’t want to wear a damn hat and scarf, then he shouldn’t have to wear a damn hat and scarf — he loves that he’s found a girlfriend that truly cares. He’ll complain, but in the end he’ll wear that damn hat and scarf and enjoy watching her enjoy her win (because he knows she’s quietly celebrating).

7. When she looks incredibly beautiful without even trying.

He doesn’t know how she does it. She can be dressed like a slob, hair a mess, running a fever and a runny nose, and still somehow manage to take his breath away. That’s the funny thing about love. It manages to find beauty in places where others fail to see it. Which, if you think about it, is exactly what makes it so powerful.

8. When she gets excited over the little things.

He loves seeing her happy. He loves the way she smiles and bounces about, hardly able to control herself. He loves how she’s able to find beauty and happiness in the simplest of things.

9. When she tells him she loves him.

It’s not only women that need to hear it from time to time. Men do as well. She may not realize it, but every time those three words slip from her lips, he’s filled with elation. He loves her and loves that when she tells him she loves him, she means it with every atom in her body. He knows that for a fact because… well, because he can feel it.

Politics / Economic Recession: “buhari Must Sack These 3 If…” by john403: 11:48am On Sep 05, 2016

Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi-West Senatorial District has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to take drastic measures on the ailing economy, including the immediate sack of the minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun, minister of budget and national planning, Senator Udo Udoma and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele.

Melaye in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, September 4, said the president must shake up his cabinet and accused some members of cabinet as lacking the capacity to deliver on the mandates of their ministries and agencies.
He said Adeosun, Udoma and Emefiele should be axed for the economy to be effectively rebooted to deliver on the change agenda of the present administration.

Melaye said: “At the moment, it must be crystal clear to all discerning minds that the President’s widely-acclaimed magical body language has lost its presumed aura and efficacy. His no-nonsense demeanor is equally neither instilling fear nor commanding respect and loyalty from among his cabinet members.

“It is therefore obvious that the time for barking is over; now is the time to bite and boot out all those who have demonstrated, in the past several months, a crass lack of capacity to effectively carry out the functions of their office.”

The All Progressives Congress senator, also condemned Buhari’s economic team led by Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, saying that “their decisions will not be and has never been respected by the economic managers and the bureaucracy in Nigeria.”

On Udoma Udo Udoma, he stated: “To be sure, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma is a very charismatic man, an accomplished lawyer, and a quintessential gentleman with a fairly untainted reputation. In everyday parlance, he is a good man. But the critical job of Budget and National Planning Minister for a huge country like Nigeria, with her prevailing economic challenges requires much more than being a good man with a great personality.”

On the CBN governor, Senator Melaye pointed to his disastrous handling and release of the so-called Dasuki-gate funds which amounts to about 15 per cent of the nation’s foreign reserves, policy flip-flops, summersaults and inconsistencies as clear evidence of gross incompetence in the management of the nation’s fiscal and monetary policies. The net effect of this inconceivable ineptitude on the part of Emefiele, according to Melaye is the free fall in the value of the naira and the total loss of faith and confidence by the international community on the Nigerian economy.

Melaye urged the President to, instead, constitute an ‘Emergency Ad Hoc Economic Team’ made up of all former ministers of finance, ex-ministers of budget and national planning, ex-CBN governors as well as members drawn from the academia with “deep knowledge of developmental economics to drive the economic revival programme.”

He said: “The President must immediately transit from mere rhetoric to drastic but positive action to save the economy and Nigeria from total collapse. The hunger in the land is real, pervasive, widespread and debilitating for the poor masses.”

Nigeria’s minister of finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun recently spoke on Nigeria’s recent slide into recession.

Adeosun expressed confidence that the economy will turn-around in no time, assuring Nigerians that the recent slide into recession will not last long.

She however called for discipline in government spending, even as she noted that the Nigerian economy is long overdue for diversification.

Politics / Extra-judicial Killings In Aba – Human Rights Activists Raise Alarm by john403: 1:15am On Jan 27, 2016
An Abia State Based Human Rights Activists under the Aegis of Abia Human Rights Agenda numbering Over Fifty Organizations has condemned the increasing trend of extra judicial killings in Aba.

Addressing newsmen in Aba, the Spokespersons of the group Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor of Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) & comrade Innocent Anozie Nwokocha of Society for Economic Rights & Social Justice (SERSJ describe the Acts as barbaric, wicked and the apex of Human Rights Violations by the State actors, asserting that the murder of unarmed citizens is a heinous crime against God and Humanity.

Why have we swept many cases of extra judicial killings by armed security operatives under the filthy carpets of national impunity? The extra legal executions by soldiers and police are becoming too difficult to document because these gruesome killings happened almost on monthly basis in Aba, Abia State. What is the institutional response of the Nigerian military and police hierarchy to surely put an end to this impunity which has graphically depicted the institution of the Nigerian Military and police as being backward, primitive and savagery? What is the synergy between the military institutions and Nigeria’s main Human rights monitors (National Human Rights Commission)?

With the enforcement of the enhanced legislative powers of the Nigerian National Human Rights Commission, we are aware that the agency enjoys similar powers of summons just like a high court of a state which constitutionally adjudicate and reach binding decisions of the breaches of the fundamental and constitutional human rights of the citizenry but not much has been done to bring mass murderers in Army and police uniforms to successful prosecution and punishment.

These impunity smacks of lack of respect for our national laws and sadly political leaders continue to disrespect national institutions. The Constitution in the very beginning identifies the Nigerian people as the rightful owners of the Sovereignty of Nigeria and also clearly gives the people the ownership of the legitimacy and authority which the people democratically should donate on regular basis and at intervals during peaceful, transparent, free and fair electoral contest to Nigerians who campaign and seek their mandate to assume political leadership positions for a specific period of time. Why do the political and military classes treat everyday Nigerian as a nonentity and why is there no national outcry on the side of the oppressed people of Abia state and Nigeria? Why are the people of Abia state so tolerant of these brutal forces which are crudely deployed and employed by soldiers and police to chastise, intimidate, harass, maim and slaughter Abians? Why will the Army and the police turn their weapons against the same people that they are recruited, trained and maintained to protect? Why will this sort of crime against humanity continue and what is the authority going to do or already doing to bring the perpetrators to trial and punishment? Will these crimes of mass murders go unpunished like many others and will the National Human Rights Commission simply resign to fate hoping that the families of the victims will accept what has been imposed on their families which are wailing and lamentations visited on them by the despicable and atrocious criminal acts of state cannibalism?

On our part, we are already compiling evidence of these killings for further international advocacy actions should the concerned Authorities feel comfortable to let the sleeping dogs lie even when these so called sleeping dogs are in form of the members of the Nigerian Army and police who have collectively murdered sleep.

•It could recalled that on July 2015, a team of NDELA Officers open fire on unarmed traders in Ariaria international Market in the guise of arresting drug peddlers. Many lives were lost and scores of injuries sustained by the traders, yet the matter is been swept under the carpet.

•In December 2015 A group under the Umbrella of Aba Urban Renewal with the State Vigilante group attacked traders at School Road Market, Aba in which traders sustained injuries in a bid to relocate them to the new site.

•In the same year 2015 at Opobo Junction Ogbor Hill,Aba a police officer beat a keke operator to a stupor over disagreement and the victim was reported dead after due to the injuries sustained from the maltreatment.

•This January 2016 at the Same Opobo Junction Ogbor Hill, Aba a Policeman shot a young man to death over disagreement.

•Recently (this January 2016), a group of armed soldiers and policemen in the bid to enforce the ban on public procession and rallies by the Abia state Government used live bullets against IPOB unarmed members who were protesting the continued detention of their leader (Nnamdi Kanu) by the Federal Government in which few defenseless citizens were shot dead, while many sustained various degrees of injuries due to maltreatment and dehumanizing attitude of the security agents in the guise of clamping down the protesters.

We hereby call on the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai and the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase to order the immediate arrest and prosecution of those operatives who gunned down innocent citizens of Aba and many others in the state who have been a victim of extra judicial killings.

We call on the National Human Rights Commission to institute a transparent public hearing even in camera especially for the purposes of witnesses protection so that perpetrators of these mass killings in ABA Abia State who are still armed and dangerous are fished out, disarmed, debriefed, prosecuted and sanctioned according to the laws of Nigeria which absolutely prohibits murder with the maximum punishment of death penalty for convicted offenders.

As promised on oath by the President, please let no single Nigerian life be wasted and let those who turn their weapons bought with the resources of all Nigerians to kill the same Nigerians whom they should protect be not allowed to go scot free.

Since they have discharged their bullets illegally and ended the precious lives of some Abians and Nigerians in general, they deserve no less the same punishment to serve as strong deterrent to would- be trigger happy military or police elements in all parts of the country.

We assure the Inspector General of Police Mr Solomon Arase and the Chief of Army Staff Major General Tukur Buratai that if those killers go scot-free, we will be prepared for the gale of international civil rights advocacy that would logically follow consequences and ultimately their prosecution before the International Criminal Court in The Hague Netherlands for failing to stop crimes against humanity. We also call on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly order the investigation of these dastardly massacres of traders in ABA by some security agencies and should show his commitment to the enforcement of the principle and practice of RULE OF LAW by ensuring that those soldiers and police who killed Aba traders are fished out, prosecuted actively and punished sternly. President Buhari’s action or inaction in unraveling the perpetrators of this Aba massacre will be a good response either/or in determining the aforementioned conundrum. Enough of these grand scale impunity.

Politics / APC Not Broke – National Secretary by john403: 1:07am On Jan 27, 2016
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed shock over some media reports insinuating that the party is broke.

The party’s National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by Mr Edegbe Odemwingie, the party’s Assistant Director (Publicity).

“The APC is not broke as erroneously
“The concerned news media had unfairly and unethically twisted and misrepresented comments by the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the statement said.

It would be recalled that the national Chairman of the party had in a news conference on Jan. 25 said ‎“the party too is suffering from the stresses and strains of funding just like every institution in our polity.’’

“That also goes to tell you that we are not a party that withdraws money from security votes or from any government agency.

“We are working on plans to raise money from within the membership. That plan has matured and will soon be put into operation.’’
The chairman had during that event refuted reports that it had written to the president for bailout, saying it was planning to generate funds from within the party.
